Dan Castro well that Superman and Clark Kent felt the same. Except one can’t even stand straight and the other is strong. This one you can clearly see the difference. And unlike any other Superman movies, they did something new that’s already done in the comics. Make Superman a lot darker and more powerful because doing the same nice guy Superman saving cats out of trees is shown a thousand times and it’s cliche. And we already have comedy movies from mcu. We need dark superhero movies and dc is here for us.

I don't know if my assessment is correct, but I seem to see that Luthor literally trembles in fear in front of Superman, but he manages to maintain TOTAL control of the situation. "And now God bends to my will"
Yeah it’s so interesting how Superman starts higher than lex then begins to be on his knees after hearing about Martha then lex luthor flies off in his helicopter higher than he was before.
Naw its the opposite for me. What makes lex such a powerful character to me is his lack of awarenes.. he's so ignorantly full of himself and thinks based of his intelligence that he is a higher being himself.. that he thinks he can go toe to toe with a godlike man. (Superman) I saw no fear in this lex. And I love it. The scene where Clark yells WHERE IS SHE with his red laser eyes and lex just laughs it off.. You can interpret as lex being scared but I see as him taunting superman and getting a rise out of him and lex gets off on that. This whole scene is lex toying with superman. No fear. Sheesh
Lex exposed Superman to a weakness far worse than kryptonite. He discovered the best way to hurt Superman is to threaten and hurt those he cares for. Like General Zod in Superman 2 ala the Reeve films says to Ursa "This Superman is nothing of the kind. I discovered his weakness. He cares he actually cares for these Earth people." Ursa asks "Like pets?" Zod replies "I suppose so." and after when Superman flew away after realizing he can't fight Zod, Non and Ursa anymore without risking Metropolis be destroyed Ursa says "Why not increase his handicap. Since he cares so much for these Earth people. Let us take his favorite!" and by favorite Ursa meant Lois
It's so easy. Based on his abusive relationship with his father, Lex understood that powerful beings aren't always good. When it comes to Superman, he hates the idea of having a godlike figure acting as jury on what's good and bad, as that leaves mankind with no choice but to helplessly submit since they don't have a means to stop him. That was the message he wanted to convey with the framings ("God is tribal, god takes sides"), and that feeeling of powerlessness is what he used to fuel Batman's anger. With this philosophy, he portrays himself to the public as a philantropist, but in reality he's just a power-hungry maniac that wants to vent his resentment at Superman since he represents the godlike ideals he grew to hate.
Yep, he's an aggrieved kid who's been driven into misotheism due to his abusive childhood and now wants to prove his ideology to humanity through Superman.
People don't understand this. What they wanted was all superficial, they hated this lex because he was 'odd'. A mind that schemes like this cannot always be as composed as the previous iterations. For them this concept of lex was Psychotic. Proving that this lex is indeed too big for little minds.
That line where Lex says “If God is all powerful, he cannot be all good. If he is all good, then he cannot be all powerful” such a fascinating line of how Lex often feels inferior to this God of an alien like he often does in the comics and other media. Lex is a self made man whether it be the evil business man in the 80s/90s version to the Tech Tycoon version he is in the modern era of comics.
Lex: “But the mother of a flying demon must be a witch. The punishment for witches, what is that? That's right. Death by fire”. Then lara (real mother of superman) died by fire when krypton is on destructions.
"melted like an army man" idk why my mind went straight to the boys, where homelander lasers those army men in his house when he was looking for his son.
Don't forget this version of lex luthor, Jesse did a good lex luthor one of the only stupid reasons pple hate his lex is cause he did a different type of lex. Jesse is a great actor. He's just miscast or given a poor script. Lex Luther isn't psychotic like the Joker. Lex is after wealth, property, power. He is a wealthy criminal genius
I agree with u. Lex Luthor is an evil mastermind, a man after power and knowledge of the unknown. An evil genius.A man who saw himself as the "Savior" of Earth. A man who viewed himself as the Man of Tomorrow. But here they made him look like a psychopathic, sociopathic and sadistic kid with daddy issues. And in Suicide Squad,Joker wasn't done right either. He was more of a crime lord and arms dealer than the King of psychopaths and prince of crime. The only time he did something psychopathic was when he gave Harleen shock therapy, and that was it. And don't even get me started on his tattoos and outfit... If u ask me, The Dark Knight's version of the Joker is THE best. And the Supergirl version of Lex Luthor is awesome!
My favourite scene. The dialogues, the writing, the photography, the acting, the music (thx Zimmer). That's great cinema there. This movie is an underrated masterpiece.

@@drelezar7745 Oh, it very much is Lex Luthor. At the very least, it was by far a more accurate depiction of the character than the Hackman version. Ironically, it was probably John Shea who gave the most comic-accurate version, but Eisenberg embodies the most essential characteristics of Luthor as he would be if he had been invented in the big tech era. At the end of the day, Lex Luthor is meant to represent the polar opposite of Superman - evil, a master strategist, a sociopath, narcissistic, misotheist, and physically weak, with a deep jealousy of anyone who embodies greater power than his own. How Luthor expresses himself within these constraints has varied widely from story to story over the years, but he is more than the bald head (and the supposedly deep, manly voice - even though very few movie/series depictions have portrayed him as such). The reason Lex Luthor has been established at the top of Superman's rogues gallery is because he routinely exploits Superman's one natural weakness - his comparatively lesser intellect. At the end of the day, Superman has god-tier powers, but in terms of his mind, he's just a farm boy from Kansas. He'll often solve problems with his strengths, powers and goodness, but he often falls short when it comes to strategising and thinking more than a couple of steps ahead. The weakest Superman stories are typically the ones where he's all-knowing and morally infallible. BvS was essentially that in a nutshell - Luthor exploiting everything that made Superman human to gain the edge over him.

Jesse's Lex was definitely a fun but incredibly risky decision Snyder made. I personally think it was really interesting and philosophical turn here. Dude same! I really dug this interpretation of the character. I see so many just jump to the “oh he acts crazy so he should be joker” like ok that’s the most surface level understanding of who Joker is as a character but whatever. The calm calculated Lex Luthor from comics and other medium is great and I hope to one day see it again but the script for this film clearly calls for something different. This is a character unhinged by past childhood trauma, desperately seeking power and wishes to dominate anyone who poses a threat to his power. Superman to him represents the messianic figure that never saved him from his abuse. It’s pretty mature stuff for a comic book movie and a pretty interesting take on the character. I could maybe agree he’s overacting a bit but I feel the acting choices were justified.
Now imagine FLASH in place of SUPERMAN... He would have rescued her mother in an instant and would have had a dinner as well..then he would have told lex to FU..😀😀😀

The whole problem with this movie is that there aren’t enough scenes to flesh out Superman as a character. We could’ve had Superman give a heartfelt speech explaining his motivations & why & what he’s doing which seemingly wins him respect, & then the bomb explodes burning down the goodwill he just built. When he comes back from his brief exile he stops at his apartment where he checks his phone to find a message from Lois explaining Lexs whole conspiracy to frame Clark. This is why he’s so enraged when he confronts Lex.
no, looks nothing like him, Leto is ok but the yhave to get rid of the tattoos and make him have the maniacal laugh instead of the subdued one he had in SS
A lot of people (including myself for a while) hated this Lex Luthor, but when you think about it and really take the film on its own terms, he's probably the most successful Lex Luthor ever put on screen. In one movie he: -Figured out Superman AND Batman's secret identities -Successfully manipulated them both and turned them against each other without either of them being the wiser until it was almost too late -Killed a senator who was against him and managed to frame Superman for it -Got his hands on advanced alien tech without too much hassle -Created Kryptonite -Created Doomsday -Made Superman kneel before him WITHOUT using Kryptonite -KILLED SUPERMAN in their first real encounter -Managed to weasel his way out of federal prison by faking insanity and getting sent to Arkham Asylum Hate DCEU!Lex Luthor for his character tics and what have you, but cannot deny he has accomplished more in one movie than most Lex Luthors have across multiple seasons of shows and movies.
This is also a young Lex. He's naive and hasn't made much of a name for himself yet. He also probably needs some medication, which he probably recieved in Arkham. The Lex we see in ZSJL seems to be a much more calm and calculated Lex
I really loved this performance. I just feel like Jesse (actor) just feels the same in the majority of his roles, however he is an incredible actor. This scene is peak tho.
This lex Luthor is a brilliant character, he may not be the cold and composed lex from the comics but it’s such an interesting interpretation of the character
2:25 When lex luthor said "Death by fire" he didn't mean Martha, he mean't supermans real mother that literaly died by fire when krypton was about to be destroyed.
I love how at the start of the scene, Superman is higher than Lex, like it reflects their statuses in that moment, he thinks he’s higher than Lex (I’ve got you, Lois is safe, I’m taking you in), but then Lex is patient and is sitting there like a child and is excited, and he starts talking and they’re on equal ground and Superman says, “What have you done?” Lex mentions that “special lady” when fighting Batman and Superman thinks he means Lois and he’s smiling and thinks he’s still above Lex, but Lex makes his move and it turns out that it’s Martha. Superman then starts to lose his composure and he’s brought to his knees and then finally he almost snaps with his Heat Vision, but he’s able to control himself (testament to his character). Lex then flies away in his helicopter and is higher than Superman. I think that this scene is brilliant and is one of the best in the movie. It’s not a perfect movie but this scene is brilliant. I also like how Lex started the timer at the beginning and kept Superman there for four minutes talking, meaning that he’d less than an hour now, which isn’t fair, but I guess you can chalk that up to saying that God takes sides and how he didn’t think that was fair so this is kind of him getting back at God and not giving him a fair chance, that doesn’t fully make sense but you may be able to get it.
You’re spot on. I also think that the timer indicates how he’s making Superman more human-like since Humans are bound by time. And Superman, being a demigod, isn’t bound by the same principle. This entire monologue is imo one of the greatest movies scenes ever. Not even to mention that insane acting.
@@BLANK-ep8qb That is why I like Cavill after Reeve. We are finally seeing Superman's humanity emerge. Lois asks "Your bookie right?" Clark says "What?" Lois then says "Don't tell me. He sends a check each week to his sweet gray haired mother." Clark replies "Actually she's silver haired." and Perry reassures him he will do his best and Clark thanks him and Lois says "Anymore at home like you?" Clark replies "Not really no." Amazing observation! Damn. That also reminds me of the title of BvS, as the “B v S” was symbolic. Think of the “v” as descending and ascending. So Batman is descending downward the entire movie only to hit rock bottom then he ascends half way through and finally fully ascends after superman sacrifices his life. He really thought this through! Manipulating Batman, not learning where the hostage is, finding a weak point in Superman tough self. Luthor really went for the details!

lightning hood see this is why Zemo in civil war is better because he had a reason to hate and I kinda wish we got flashbacks for both of them so we can understand why.
I can't believe that some people still say Lex had no actual motive, because he had one. Lex is a classic misotheist. He loathes God. As he says here, he was abused by his father as a kid and hated God ever since, because he didn't save him. From then on, he knew that if God was all-powerful, he couldn't be all-good. And that if he was all-good, he couldn't be all-powerful. He realized that if God had the will to save him back then, he hadn't the power to do it. And that if he had the power to do it, then he hadn't the will to save him. And now where he has kind of a physical embodiment of "God" in Superman, he's obsessed with the thought of proving to humanity what he discovered as a child. And he won't hesitate one single second to kill dozens of people in order to reach that goal. So, at its core, Lex is a scared and aggrieved child that just wants the world to indirectly see what was done to him by showing humanity that Superman is a hypocrite. That "God" is a hypocrite.

Dan Castro well that Superman and Clark Kent felt the same. Except one can’t even stand straight and the other is strong. This one you can clearly see the difference. And unlike any other Superman movies, they did something new that’s already done in the comics. lmfaooo
This is _easily_ the all-time worst interpretation of Lex Luthor. It's genuinely embarrassing.
@@BradAaronTaylor But for what Snyder was going for, it works perfectly.
No fear. Sheesh
2:13 Look at his eyes. So dilated. He's either scared as fuck or tripping balls
To me it looks more like he is excited. Hes got too big ego to fear Superman.
The fact people didn’t recognize this makes me feel powerful.

People don't understand this. What they wanted was all superficial, they hated this lex because he was 'odd'. A mind that schemes like this cannot always be as composed as the previous iterations.

That line where Lex says “If God is all powerful, he cannot be all good. If he is all good, then he cannot be all powerful” such a fascinating line of how Lex often feels inferior to this God of an alien like he often does in the comics and other media. Eh, I still don’t like this version of Lex Luthor because he’s not Lex Luthor
It's a good character. It's just not a good Lex Luthor.

Jesse's Lex was definitely a fun but incredibly risky decision Snyder made. I personally think it was really interesting and philosophical turn here. It's not that much of deviation. Only the context is different

A lot of people (including myself for a while) hated this Lex Luthor, but when you think about it and really take the film on its own terms, he's probably the most successful Lex Luthor ever put on screen. In one movie he:
-Figured out Superman AND Batman's secret identities
-Successfully manipulated them both and turned them against each other without either of them being the wiser until it was almost too late
-Killed a senator who was against him and managed to frame Superman for it
-Got his hands on advanced alien tech without too much hassle
-Created Kryptonite
-Created Doomsday
-Made Superman kneel before him WITHOUT using Kryptonite
-KILLED SUPERMAN in their first real encounter
-Managed to weasel his way out of federal prison by faking insanity and getting sent to Arkham Asylum

Dont forget that he's actually young (the character of course, not J.Eisenberg) :) Let's the time do his job
This is his son, not the actual guy
He has a very good charisma
Reeve gave his Superman his human side when he starts work at the Daily Planet and asks Mr. White if he can send half his salary to be sent to his mother on a weekly basis. Lois asks "Your bookie right?" Clark says "What?" Lois then says "Don't tell me. He sends a check each week to his sweet gray haired mother." Clark replies "Actually she's silver haired." and Perry reassures him he will do his best and Clark thanks him and Lois says "Anymore at home like you?" Clark replies "Not really no." That is truly human and a loving son
Amazing observation! Damn. That also reminds me of the title of BvS, as the “B v S” was symbolic. Think of the “v” as descending and ascending. So Batman is descending downward the entire movie only to hit rock bottom then he ascends half way through and finally fully ascends after superman sacrifices his life. That's why it's not “B vs S” or “S v B”; it's “B v S” symbolically. Such an amazing and thoughtful film
Lex Luthor’s balls were utterly large in this scene, even larger than Batman’s 😂.

Haters: Superman could have just looked for Martha with his abilities
Lex: "... if you fly away , Martha dies"

The script for this movie was way beyond its time.
It wouldn't have even disliked as much if released on Ultimate Edition. All Snyder movies are ahead of their time sadly.
Way too much... This is art at it's finest. People just aren't prepared to watch anything like this yet
Zach's movies just get better in time. At first, people don't like them. Then, as years pass by, they become a fan.
i love when he's like " IDK, i would not let them tell me," man was prepared for the worst case scenario superman would do to him
And if superman did do his worst, Lex would feel like he won since he proved that Superman isn't good
I can't believe that some people still say Lex had no actual motive, because he had one.
EXACTLY!! this lex has the same motives and reasonings as comic lex, people just love to hate
@@mrbluerobin6042 Nah, it is just your typical reinvention of the events by the youtube community. It's been quite a few years now. It happens nearly each time and it's quite funny. They also complained about the overracting of this actor. That's about it.

Yeah, you can truly see the desperate in Lex' face in this moment. In this little moment we see the scared boy who was abused by his father and now sees "God"/Superman being admired as world's savior. He just wants the world to stop looking up to somebody/or somebody of a kind that didn't save him from the abominations of his father ; to stop looking up to a hypocritical "God".
@@filmpalace2426 it also keeps in tone with comic lex goal. He wants the world to stop having to rely on Superman to have to evolve and become stronger. The moment he shows super man that he’s just normal maybe the world won’t have to rely on him and will expand

People often forget that asides from kryptonite, emotions are one of Superman's greatest weaknesses. We see Lex use the latter to his full advantage. He made Superman kneel without even laying a finger on him. But emotions are also very important for Superman because after all, it's the reason he's not a tyrannical god in the first place.

Why you people don’t understand anything is beyond me but nice try in either staying ignorant or just lying about his motivation
