I was raised LDS, served a mission from 2012-2014 in the Idaho Boise Mission (Idaho Nampa Mission), attended BYU. In 2018 I joined Community of Christ, and am currently a Priest in Community of Christ and serving on the Pastor Team in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin congregation. It is so important that we understand each other, and make a greater effort to work together as siblings in the Restoration.

Brigham wanted him to come to the Utah saints, but JSIII didn't trust that. I would imagine the relationship with Brigham Young was antagonistic. Emma and Brigham hated each other (totally read some of the written stuff. it's bad. idk how Joseph Smith Jr. handled that.) and JS III had some personal bad experiences with him as well. he felt called of God to join and be the Prophet President of the "New Organization"/ The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Community of Christ). History of it is fascinating and each sect has it's own version(s) and unique paths. Big reason for our split was polygamy. Many in my church think Joseph was never a polygamist. Not everyone, and they don't teach that anymore, but what people think is split.
In 1976 I was baptized into the RLDS. In 1985 I and many others withdrew our membership from the RLDS when Section 156 on women in the priesthood came out. We also left when the temple was built using the wrong design, built in the wrong place and built for the wrong reason. Several seventies withdrew also losing their pensions in the process. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ the Lamb of God with some of the seventies and in a few years left that church also for various reasons. Being a seventy myself and along with another seventy we organized the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ the Lamb of God. We are unincorporated and continue to meet in the homes of the saints waiting for the return of Christ.
I investigated in an area with Community of Christ (RLDS) and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There are so many reasons I chose the direction I chose.

Hi, I'm associated with the Bickertonite church and I'm interested in talking to any living descendants of Allen Wright, the man who published the pamphlet refuting the Second Coming of Christ. He published it in 1907. If you two guys or anyone watching this video knows if there are living descendants of Allen Wright could you pls let me know? Thanks!
Good job guys! I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ with headquarters in Pennsylvania that followed succession with Sidney Rigdon and William Bickerton. God bless
@@darlenemartim9972 OP told you what Latter Day Saint church OP goes too. The Church of Jesus Christ. Sidney Rigdon and William Bickerton are Latter Day Saint leaders. After Joseph Smith Jr's assassination, there were many different people who though that they were called/appointed to be the next president of the Church. So your church probably followed Brigham Young, HQ in SLC. my church brought many of the scattered Saints together led by Jason Briggs and Zenas Gurley, Emma Hale Smith and Joseph Smith III joined them and JSIII ordained to Prophet, the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Our HQ is in Independence, Missouri, James Strang claimed have a letter from JS Jr and said he was appointed by an Angel, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (note the lack of dash and capital "D") is the church he founded. Their HQ is in Voree, Wisconsin. There are a lot of Latter Day Saints, and the history has a common starting place but schisms and diverges into many different paths. quite fascinating really. Gospel Tangents is a good channel to learn about the Restoration. They have people on from across the Restoration come on and talk about their people from their own point of view.
Independent Missouri is a unique place. I got a picture from the LDS Stake Center with the Community of Christ temple in the background - and the Temple Lot (owned by the Temple Lot Church on the other side of the block).
Cool show. Just started watching and barely found it. Appreciating the knowledge, fun, and talking about our beliefs in God. Thank you. It's needed in these times. I love learning about the topics.
My brother joined the Church of Christ the same year I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1981, he was living in Michigan, I was in Alaska. I recently learned that the Church of Christ is an off-shoot of our church, my brother had no idea! I thank you for doing all this research for us! How do you suggest I invite my brother to join you for an interview?
Is he Church of Christ or Community of Christ? Do they use the Book of Mormon? There are MANY churches calling themselves "Church of Christ", so I just wanted to ask for clarification
@@enjoythejourney-823 There are several extant Churches of Christ in the LDS movement, like the Hedrickites (Temple Lot church) in Missouri, but none of these as far as I am aware reject the Book of Mormon (although they do reject the Pearl of Great Price and portions of the Doctrine and Covenants). What "Church of Christ" in Michigan could you be referring to, and how could they be an off-shoot of the main Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?
Regarding comments at 12:30 The LDS church is actually a corporate conglomerate. Behind the religious front are dozens of companies earning hundreds of millions of dollars a year. At the top of the corporate pyramid are two holding companies, the Corporation of the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its subsidiary, the Corporation of the Presiding Bishop. The latter company primarily holds the church’s non-profit enterprises such as educational institutions and charities, as well as the global management of the church’s buildings and grounds. Almost all of these companies are tax-exempt (Arizona Republic 1991).
Life-long RLDS and I have met Hedrickites (Church of Christ (Temple Lot)) and the Bickertonites and the Utah LDS. Most Latter Day Saints outside of the Utah headquartered organization do not care at all about secret "temple rites" for the dead. Traditionally, RLDS practice and doctrine is the same as the original Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Kirtland, Ohio, in the 1830s. This is continued today in the various independent restoration branches and use the Inspired Version of the Holy Bible, the RLDS 1908 Edition of the Book of Mormon and the RLDS Book of Doctrine and Covenants.
5:45. They have more sections because they believe in continueing revelation to their leader, who they believe to be the true prophet. Those other sections are from their prophet.
I was raised in Community of Christ, and W. Wallace Smith AND his son Wallace B. Smith were both as you say "blood descendances" of Joseph Smith Jr. Wallace B. Smith retired in 1996. They both were prophet/presidents.

i am a member of the community of christ and would like to see a video about both the salt lake church and the Missouri church (lds and community of christ)
@@harshitgarg419 i am a member of CofC and i accept the book of mormon as scripture. my favorite scripture is 2 Nephi 3, mine is versed differently then yours though. some people love the Book of Mormon (like me). some people are uncomfortable about the war in it. some people had a faith crisis (either here or often converts from the LDS church) and so they don't like to touch it. the church takes no official stance on the historicity. but we also have offical statements that say scripture does not have to be historical to be sacred. most church historians I know think it's ahistorical. i find the truths i find in the Book of Mormon don't need to be historical to be Divinely Inspired, y'know? we don't do tests of faith, so members have a wide range of beliefs. i can personally say that everytime I give a sermon/talk, I use the Book of Mormon. (except that Sunday where I was explaining the fullness of a section of the D&C) Also Community of Christ really really loves the Doctrine & Covenants. We usually use the Doctrine & Covenants a few times per service tbh. my worn D&C is in front of me right now. ours is currently at 165 sections. the most modern revelations from God through the prophets are there.

That map of who broke off from whom is evidence that the same thing happened to the Catholic church. Like seriously have you ever seen the graph of all the churches that broke off of the Catholic Church... That is evidence in my opinion that human beings cannot maintain the true church. End of story. If Jesus Christ had not restored the gospel we would be so lost clinging to whatever truth has survived.
Here's is the problem. Sixteen million (LDS Church) may seem large, but is it? The world population is approximately 8,000 million or 8 billion. So, the LDS Church is about 20/100s of 1 percent of the world's population. It comprises 57/100s of the current estimated world's Christian population of 2.8 billion. Is that large? Not really.
that number is a lie . the mormon church counts all the people who have left . government census reports mormon lds figures are much smaller that church records the world wide lds membership is only 5 million
The Community of Christ rejects all of the Nauvoo revelations, in fact, everything after 1835 until Joseph III was installed. They get a new revelation every other year at their General Conference.

community of christ still holds the RLDS name, but we wanted to be seen as ourselves rather than having to explain that we are not you. a positive identity (who we are) versus a negative identity (who we are not). not that it's wrong to show relation. i think the relationship between the two churches is much better than in the past. but it's still important to be able to define ourselves. i jokingly describe myself as a "Reorganized Latter Day Socialist on Wheels ♿️" in online bios. Reorganized is such a good word. Joseph Smith III and other early RLDS leaders like Mother Emma Smith, and Brother Zenas Gurley, reorganized the church by gathering the scattered Saints that didn't go west. so that's where it came from. i think that's worth remembering.

Wow it is interesting! Also, you have never had an experiance you can remember of the spirit warning you when you are going down the wrong path? Thats crazy cuz i have had a lot of that in my life
If I learned anything in life is if any belief system in this world sounds crazy or behaves crazy see if there are different types of them. Their are always different type. I’m an Israelite and there are different types. We believe the same thing on somethings but don’t agree on other things. A few things we all believe Is yes we are the Israelites from the Bible by blood 🩸, we’re not a religion and we must keep the laws of the Bible. That’s only a few. I haven’t seen the video yet but I was just looking it up because I was curious if mormons have different types of Mormonism.
Your effort is laudable. But, your historical documentation is flawed. Keep trying, though. Branches descending from the Prophet Joseph Smith Jr are extremely complex. God bless 🙌
the trueness of a church isn't how the congregating trueness its the information God wants to convey to the man or woman that there congregation represents traditions which is fine , traditions are a quesi-Boat that you want to travel on
No, not to my knowledge. In fact, the LDS church has reprimanded the media in times past for incorrectly calling some of these break off groups 'Mormons' in some of their news reports.
Respectfully.......When did "feelings" become a prerequisite or compass when seeking out the things of God? You both stated that you "Feel" you are in the TRUE CHURCH. Jeremiah 17:9 warns us that we shouldnt rely on feelings at all because they can be deceiving. Just because you are part of the biggest sect in Mormonism, does not mean you are right!
Are you just going to ignore all the other scriptures as well then? Like trust in the Lord with all your heart? The apostles regretted not trusting their heart when they thought it could be Jesus they saw as resurrected and said did not our hearts within us burn? They realized the spirit touched their hearts. We also need to have a mighty change of heart, a broken heart and a contrite spirit. Matthew 22 thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart. And on and on and on. Our hearts are only deceitful when they are set on the wrong things. When they are set on God and serving him, they support our faith. By the way, we believe he tells us in our hearts AND our mind. They work together. God works everything by two witnesses in this case, the heart and mind.
@@devinhinkson3798 Finish that verse in Proverbs 3. It says"......and lean NOT unto thine own understanding......" Thats the difficult part of it all, isn't it? Our feelings tell us one thing, even when deep down we know the truth. The Bible says to not trust in the mind as well (mind and heart are synonymous. Just read Proverbs 28:26. The Bible says if you do, you are a fool! Jeremiah 17:9 "The heart is deceitful above ALL things and desperately wicked, who can know it?" Or how about Matthew 15 when it says, ""For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander". Or maybe even Ecclesiastes 9;3 "The hearts of people, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live". Are these the "other scriptures" you are suggesting that i'm ignoring? Your heart and mind trick you, that is why we are instructed over and over again to not FOLLOW the heart and mind. You are suggesting making your feelings the father of the thought, when we are instructed to follow and trust WHOLLY and COMPLETELY FIRST. We invite Jesus Christ into our heart to take over our life. That is where the HOLY SPIRIT (God) dwells when we TRUST Him FIRST. There are more Biblical scriptures if you need them, but please don't make the mistake of thinking IF you feel good then it must be good. I'm sure when Abraham was getting ready to sacrifice his son Isaac, he didn't FEEL good about it, but he obeyed. That was God testing Abrahams FAITH. Hope this helps!
You can talk yourself in or out of ANYTHING. You can use your mind to tell your heart it's ok. You can use your heart to tell your mind it's NOT ok. These are the tools man uses to negotiate his life and livelihood. James says To him that KNOWETH to do good and doeth it not, to him is IS sin. It's not a feeling, it's KNOWING, and that's the point I was trying to make. Can't be led into something based off your feelings of what you can talk yourself into believing, but KNOWING what the truth is leads you to having a heart full of God!
I thought it was interesting to see you guys chuckle at the Church with "Inc." in its name calling it a business. Meanwhile "the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" is trademark owned by "The Corporation of the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." So...yeah....that's a thing.

To be accurate, there's only 1 Christian religion, which stems from Judaism, which stems from the original priesthood beliefs and practices of: Abraham, Enoch, Adam & Eve. And there is NO such thing as mormonism, of any kind, it's: the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ or just: Restored Gospel. There are MANY sects of Christianity and sects of the Restored Gospel but only 1 sect truly has the priesthood of God: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as Joseph Smith ordained all of the twelve apostles with the keys of the priesthood and the church of Jesus Christ and clearly told them that when he's gone, a quorum of the Twelve have those keys and that the senior apostle presides over the church, which is exactly what happened when senior apostle Brigham Young explained this to the church and received the vast majority of confirmations. Sydney Rigdon knew he had nothing and James Strange was an obvious fraud and all of the other splinter groups are just fooling themselves and not accepting the facts and truth. Please AVOID the word Mormon unless you're referring to the Book of Mormon or the prophet or general Mormon.
i think flds continued polygamy because they thought d&c section 132 was divine revelation to the prophet joseph smith and was essential to achieve celestial glory and eternal life.

I am a latterday saint and the bible sais you will know true prophets by their fruits and the latterday saints have the most amount of good fruit but i wouldn't advise getting together debating over this because it will cause contention and then you lose the HolySpirit we should just love and respect one another and their beliefs n Antimormons just want to destroy us both so want us to prove each other wrong
The word “Mormon” isn’t accurate, and our Prophet, Russell M.Nelson has told us that the Savior, Jesus Christ has asked us to retire this name in most circumstances. Why does this channel always perpetuate its use?
Well in this specific case, it’s because the term is accurate. A mormon is anyone who believes in the Book of Mormon, as they said in the video, there are 88 different mormon churches. We call ours the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because it’s Jesus’s church, not Mormon’s. However, the Church of Jesus Christ still follows the teachings of the Book of Mormon, so it’s still a part of the theological movement of Mormonism, just like those other 87 churches.
@@hollyodii5969 Look, I get it, I almost never use the term either unless there’s a specific reason to. One of those rare cases is when talking about other churches that believe in the Book of Mormon. We can call that collection of churches represents Mormonism. We wouldn’t call it Christianity, that’s not specific enough. And we wouldn’t call it Church of Jesus Christ-ism. That’s too specific and takes away the special position our church has as the only true and living church. We shouldn’t share that title with other churches. So calling other churches that believe in the Book of Mormon, mormon churches. Is perfectly fine. We shouldn’t make the word mormon taboo, the prophet Mormon was a great dude, and there’s nothing wrong with saying that people who follow his work believe in Mormonism. Similar to how Christians, Jews, and Muslims are collectively known as Abrahamic religions. I wouldn’t like people to describe me as an Abrahamist instead of a Christian, for the same reason I wouldn’t want people to only describe me as a mormon instead of a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. Isn’t because it’s inaccurate or not useful, but because it focuses on the wrong thing in that specific case.
O how I wish everyone could see the truth. There is only one way to Heaven. Only through a sacrifice and Jesus Christ that sacrifice. Only his spilt blood can pay the penalty for your sins. Jesus, the Father and the Holy Spirit are equally God. You can in no way ever be good enough to obtain salvation nor can any ceremony or tradition save you. It is a free gift from God in Christ if you will accept it.
2:30. ???????????????? We aren't the break off! We (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) are the correct continuation of Jesus Christ's church which Jesus Christ founded through His prophet Joseph Smith Junior. Let's say that truth on our (unofficial channel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints).
If feeding the homeless would be closer to the will of God than watching a movie, does that mean any Mormon who ever watched a movie did not do all they could to earn God’s Grace, therefore they will go to Hell? Considering mormonism as a faith but that standard is seemingly impossible to satisfy. This seemed like a good place to learn about the faith.
The corporate arms of the Church of Jesus Christ are separated from the religious organization for tax reasons, although I’m not sure of the exact relationship. I guess it’s kinda like a subsidiary..?
The Church has a corporate side, and that side does own many buildings, businesses. I had it explained to me at least once, but I can't recall the reason I was given for it. Hopefully, the money that is held is used in service to others.
In a book I have, the author claims: 1. The "Mormons" say the Christian church broke into many churches and that's why they're wrong. (A gross misunderstanding or intentional misportrayal, but, okay.) 2. The "Mormons" broke apart into many churches, too, so THEY'RE wrong. (Not exactly how it works, but, okay.) 3. Meanwhile, genuine Christianity, in any Christian church, is true Christianity, because reasons. So, "we" make a dubious claim on Christianity, this guy both denies that claim BUT uses it AGAINST us and that's okay. If "Because A split into A through X" means A through X are all invalid, then the ONLY way to have true Christianity today is for Christ to restore it and then no one breaks away for any reason ever. In EVERY claim, one must look at where/how it started and how it maintained since. Take an objective look at determining truth, as far as we can know it, in terms of order and function, and go from there. Many are most break-aways essentially deny the very initial authority which started their parent church and offer no real claim for authority of their own.
I...kind of agree more with Pikertonite LDS. I don't see the D & C as the word of god, honestly I don't even see the scripture as the word of god- So much as the documented history of prophets and their followers i.e. the Church, throughout history, as it pertains to fulfilling the prophecy of Christ. I believe there are accounts within the Bible and BoM OF prophets speaking to God, but at the end of the day they are just accounts, written by men and therefore fallable.
So are you saying that you do not believe that the bible, BOM, D&C, and PoGP are prescriptive, but merely descriptive of past events and ideas? are there no prophetic messages to be understood as being yet unfulfilled? are there no teachings in which we are to look to for guidance an direction moving forward? and are there not teachings that show or give examples of a higher order of living and belief in which we can and should abide by, in order to grow intellectually, temporally, and spiritually? I guess it might all come down to what your definition of scripture actually is, and whether or not you believe that there are any teachings therein, which are meant for us, or pertain to future events.

There are a lot of Latter Day Saints, and the history has a common starting place but schisms and diverges into many different paths. quite fascinating really.

The LDS church is actually a corporate conglomerate.
This is continued today in the various independent restoration branches and use the Inspired Version of the Holy Bible, the RLDS 1908 Edition of the Book of Mormon and the RLDS Book of Doctrine and Covenants.

the church takes no official stance on the historicity. but we also have offical statements that say scripture does not have to be historical to be sacred. most church historians I know think it's ahistorical. i find the truths i find in the Book of Mormon don't need to be historical to be Divinely Inspired, y'know?
we don't do tests of faith, so members have a wide range of beliefs. i can personally say that everytime I give a sermon/talk, I use the Book of Mormon. (except that Sunday where I was explaining the fullness of a section of the D&C)
Also Community of Christ really really loves the Doctrine & Covenants. We usually use the Doctrine & Covenants a few times per service tbh. my worn D&C is in front of me right now. ours is currently at 165 sections. the most modern revelations from God through the prophets are there.

That map of who broke off from whom is evidence that the same thing happened to the Catholic church. Yes. AUB is one example.

😂😂
@@KnuttyEntertainment No. I’m not a Mormon. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

@@KnuttyEntertainment yes for all their business enterprises which makes it a business. Billions in assets; shopping malls, condos, media, etc
The Church has a corporate side, and that side does own many buildings, businesses. I had it explained to me at least once, but I can't recall the reason I was given for it. Hopefully, the money that is held is used in service to others.
In a book I have, the author claims:
1. The "Mormons" say the Christian church broke into many churches and that's why they're wrong.
(A gross misunderstanding or intentional misportrayal, but, okay.)
2. The "Mormons" broke apart into many churches, too, so THEY'RE wrong.
(Not exactly how it works, but, okay.)
Your arrogance and laughter overshadow your valid research. Too bad.
Would you care to elaborate?

@@PapaKryptoss of course they can do what they want. What's exactly the point of that statement?

@@schnaftipufti what's the point of YOUR statement? You, personally, require a solemn assembly to discuss this and judge them as inappropriate conduct? Perhaps the problem is with you, not them.
I believe in the Book of Mormon, because of my mom's Haplogroup X. But if I were a "Mormon" I'd be Community of Christ because I'm gay. If the LDS accepted and married gay members to a same-sex spouse, I'd be LDS. I'm not giving up my sweet iced tea. Affirmation the Gay LDS Mormons and quite a few Moderate & Liberal LDS Mormons keep flocking into the Community of Christ. One of my exes was LDS but he went full atheist, he didn't even consider CoC nor Affirmation, he said "Liberal Christianity and especially Liberal Mormon groups are like Methadone Clinics for those addicted to religion".
