When I joined the church I was unemployed. Members of the church uplifted me and helped me updated my resume. I got a job and I have been promoted a few times. I own my a home, which I didn't think I would ever do. I have had many blessings through Jesus Christ and His church.
One time I was driving through a different state by myself, and my car broke down. (This was a 30+ hour drive.) I looked up the local Bishop and gave him a call. He put me in touch with a member who was a mechanic, who helped repair my car for free! For a 20 year old female driving through the middle of no where, I was so grateful to have help from a source I could trust! 🙏
@sarahduvall, So glad you can reach out and get help from your community when you break down. Hopefully the church will remember anyone and everyone who breaks down is a child of God and also needs help and a rescue, even if they are NOT members of the church. Also, I know Bishops who molested children, counselors in bishoprics and high counselors who were rapists, and personally know male leaders who were abusive to their wives. NOT all men in the church can be blindly trusted just because they are members of your same church and where the same logo on their foreheads. So many good people outside the church, as well. I have also had members of the church take advantage of their power and position to manipulate money from me via deception and taking advantage of my dire situation. So glad you were helped when you needed it and not abused or taken advantage of. This does not always happen though. Open your eyes. Don't blindly trust all members. Remember to care for the needy everywhere in and outside of your church. This isn't a club where members only help members. Christians love and help all creatures and people's in need worldwide. As an investigator, the missionaries have helped me by letting me do service with them. I am new to my area and I moved here during the pandemic. It wasn’t easy to meet the people in my neighborhood or get involved in my community. Then I started doing lessons with the elders and they’d tell me they were helping someone move or trimming someone’s hedges or cooking dinner for someone and I’d ask if I could tag along. I’ve met a ton of cool people who I wouldn’t have met if it wasn’t for that volunteer opportunity. And I got to help people, which is always good. :)

@@hollayevladimiroff131 I came from other evangelical churches to the LDS church. Trust me, the LDS church is better. They offer far more than any other churches I attended. People get too caught up in doctrinal differences and not on the commonalities that make us part of a Christian community.
In seminary 40 years ago a guy in the class asked our seminary teacher “what if the church isn’t true”, the seminary teacher just said then there is no better way to bring such happiness. So true!!
Even though I am not a member of the church. A couple of missionaries helped me out. One of them was really good with engines and fixed my snow blower. I was especially grateful because we were expecting 18-24 inches of snow the next day. We got lucky and got only 12 inches. However, if it wasn't for that kind missionary, I would have been in trouble. Shoveling wet snow, especially that much is dangerous for the human body. However the snowblower did it in 15 minutes. I will never forget their kindness.
You mentioned a really good point: even if the doctrine is 100% false and it’s some strange cult, at least the gospel leads us to live a reasonably good life. It’s not like we are demon sex cannibals or something. It doesn’t hurt to try to better yourself and try to serve others through a system with structure that promotes personal and family growth. We have services and help for nearly all of life’s difficult situations, with new literature and programs constantly rolling out. Life is still hard, but it’s easier in a way because something (I like to think it’s the Savior and keeping my covenants) brings me joy in daily life. Whatever that is, it’s a good thing (Moroni taught all good things come from Christ btw) and I want to stick with it. Thanks for the video!
A study by UCLA about ten years ago showed that active, male, members of the Church had average life expectancy almost 10 years longer than the average males in the US. The study cited the Church's health code and other reasons for the improved life longevity.
I swaped from Germany to England, I told my bishop the area I need to go, he contact the ward there and they help us to find a place to stay. As a member no netter where you go, you always find a place to sleep. That is not excluded for the church but a nice thing.

It's more than JUST being chaste, and obedient to Heavenly Father. He LOVES us more than we can comprehend. He doesn't enjoy seeing us suffer. He mourns with us, and grieves with us as well. Because of lack of self respect, self control, self esteem, parental guidance, (in terms of real life, and/or spiritual development) AND having normal rampant teenage hormones, I became sexually active at a really young age. After I grew out of my teenage years, I got married, had kids, and got a divorce. I ended up back on the same path I was previously, but I would rationalize it. I finally got to that point where it stopped being fun. I started feeling more alone, more used, and less...I don't know...special? Needed? Truly appreciated and wanted? Important? ... basically, I wanted to be LOVED, not used for a night or two. So I tried dating, and got my heart broken a few times, and started back on my old habits. It wasn't until I really started having a healthier relationship with Heavenly Father, and started trusting Him, that it finally clicked. It's not JUST about "saving yourself for your spouse" ... it's also about "saving yourself for YOURSELF." Imagine not having any regrets, (or a basis for comparison) when you get married, and give yourself completely to them. I sure as crap wish I had waited. And I mean that as personal feelings, religion aside. And that's just one side of things. Unplanned pregnancy begats financial, emotional, and physical challenges. Abortion isn't an easy thing to go through either. Physically, emotionally, psychologically.... Std's suck! Imagine the drop in sexually transmitted diseases, if we all just didn't have sex until we're married... So, there ya go guys. The benefits of being chaste, aside from the benefits of being faithful and obedient to our loving, all knowing, compassionate, and empathetic Heavenly Father. 😊
Benefits are: We belong to Christ's Church, we know God's plan and have been given the knowledge and authority needed to gain exaltation. No other religion offers that.
Me too! When I was in a Singles Ward in Las Vegas (MANY years ago!) I had the group Family Home Evening lesson and decided to teach everyone to crochet. The boys were really into it and the girls were not. Too bad.
When I was on a mission, the relief society (local women's organization) helped my mom with her laundry and cleaning. That was a huge relief to me, knowing that she was getting help that she needed.
Help with rent, dating service (single adults), help getting a job, learning a language, learning about other religions, learning to work hard, having a knowledge of the importance of faith, grace, and works and how they fit together in an indescribable way. Not being forced to accept a creed, having church without ritual and temple with ritual, leaning to sell, and more.
I have to say that it's a compelling argument (basically Pascal's wager I think) in the scenario where there is no God, church members are still super blessed. Health wise, family wise, community wise. With so much good fruit, can the tree really be bad? And again, even if the tree isn't of divine origin, it's still a damn good tree yielding sweet fruits.

Yes. We could look at the doctrine of becoming Gods as being an I'm better than you scenario. However on the flip side, that attitude can also bring out the best in people because if we can become like God, then our worth as the children of God and thus heirs, is limitless. It makes a world of confidence and self worth. It's one of the reasons i found hope and got out of a self hating depression. People are worth it. You are worth it. I am worth it. The people who place themselves on a pedestal of thinking their better than others probably won't achieve Godhood unless they repent. The I'm better than you mindset is pride which is sin. Pride as the church understands it is to have enmity or hostility toward other people or towards God.

One of my road blocks is public speaking in Church - I haven’t joined the church yet - How does someone that has never grown up in the church get that ability to do so ? I have Never been to a church where everyone was so Nice and friendly to everyone - They truly care for one another - Does each ward Host such events about money management and budgeting ?
It is your own choice, if you want to give a speach or not. I know of members who does not want to speak in public. Please let that not be a reason for you to not join the church. I have been a member for 35 years. It is the best thing I have ever done!!

The day I met the elders I was moving stuff around in my house ie furniture and without a hesitation they asked if they could help plus it was way over 100 degrees while they were walking. Their conviction to walk in this heat all for the love of God placed a yes in my heart and I’ve been grateful to them ever since

@@jlewis8145 It is right in LDS theology. It says you have to be born again to enter the kingdom of heaven. It also says baptism by immersion is required. It may not be the type of "born again" a Pentecostal thinks of those, but it is a full commitment to Jesus Christ of the Bible and His teachings. No idolatry allowed. Sorry but another myth evangelicals think about Mormons. We believe Christ is in charge too. Sorry no Trinity. That's a man made concept and is not in the Bible. As for forgiveness of sins, no LDS believe you buy your ay into heaven. Another myth. You only get into heaven through the grace of Jesus Christ and the cross at Calvary. There is no Masonic "endowment ceremony". The Endowment ceremony is specific to the LDS church. There are some similarities in handshakes and tokens and clothing. No powers of Lucifer. Another myth. No password: that is what you get with banks. None of this by the way gets you into heaven. It is the grace of God and my Savior Jesus Christ.

Let's be honest,..the historical Church offered "an inheritance in Zion" which (among other things, ) included farmlands. This was a very big deal, especially to converts coming from Europe who (for generations) were tenement farmers. Even in 19th Century, Utah, 18 year olds were typically given plots of land to own and to work, under the terms of the "United Order." Some of these land-holdings are still in family hands. Those days may come again, but for now we live according to commandments and our rewards are more of an eternal nature.

Exorcisms in LDS church? Haven't heard of them, can you elaborate? I read a few things and sure I didn't hear anything like it but it reminds me how Moses cast Satan out of his presence though the power of Christ.
There was times where I knew daemons were near me and influencing me though sin and such, I was able to cast them out in the name of Jesus Christ, as in the Bible. Now the demons did not physically control me but I did feel a lot different then when the Holy Spirit was with me.
I do just want to point out that you are both white cishet men, which is the demographic which generally has the most positive experience in the LDS church so it makes sense that you've had largely positive interactions with your wards. I'm glad that you have and I agree that mormons are usually pretty nice, but being from a different demographic can make things a little harder.
I think it could be interesting to see an episode discussing any downsides to being Mormon. Maybe an approach of countering negatives with positives? For example: sometimes the culture of purity and chastity can lead to feeling a need to always be perfect and then feeling shame when something goes wrong. To counter this negative, shame is not something heavenly Father wants us to feel, and there is always a way forward.
The rules against pre marital sex encourage people to get married earlier and with people they probably shouldn't and that leads to unhealthy relationships and a higher divorce rate than average.

You requested a fact check on the word of wisdom comment at 10:40. The word of wisdom is a good health code (generally) and can lead to longer life. Alcohol should be avoided and Tabaco is a no-brainer. However, it's a bit tricky to see the total impact because you have to try to differentiate between word of wisdom factors and other socio-economic influencers. In general, the 7th day adventist health code is better (encourages more vegetarianism, eating nuts, and low salt) and they live longer. The jury is still out on coffee and tea, with some studies suggesting that it may reduce the onset of dementia and help people live longer. Mormons in general and society at large would do well to limit intake of processed sugars and to exercise more.
You raise some good points. However, the Word of Wisdom actually encourages us to eat meat very sparingly and to consume everything in moderation. Keeping the body in good health through exercise is also implied. I do wish more Saints would adhere to the “eating meat sparingly” part of the WOW

However, by 1920 things had shifted and temperance was given more emphasis than meat avoidance. The emphasis on avoiding alcohol was hardly mentioned in the 1920s in general conference, but was a major topic in the 1930s shortly after Utah voted to repeal prohibition. Full compliance took some time as many people who had been born prior to it being a requirement for temple attendance (1920) still consumed alcohol on occasion.
I see the term ‘mormonism’ as the name of a culture. ‘Mormonism’ is not at all as a synonym of ‘church of Jesus Christ of LDS’. The church of Christ in Christ’s understanding is in essence a group of people (two or more) united under His authority and with the authentic purpose of taking one another to heaven, check Jesus Christ’s answer to Joseph Smith on why all churches available at the time were ‘wrong’ (JSH 1:19). A ‘mormon’ in that sense is not necessarily a disciple of Jesus Christ, he might attend church but mainly due to cultural or social forces not necessarily motivated primarily by reaching heaven. I agree that the ‘mormon culture’ may be toxic sometimes but never the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Christ’s understanding of what that means. A culture is a necessary thing but can take no one to heaven. A group of people (two or more) are only an assembly (ecclesia) of Christ if their purpose is heaven, if the purpose is of cultural or social nature, they are not the church of Christ even if they have authority. It is as simple as that. If I have the privilege to see that my local community is drifting away from the rock of Christ, turning the church into a culture, it is my duty to work with love to bring it back otherwise I myself am no longer a disciple of Christ (Luke 12:48), I may be a counter culture fighter alright but not a disciple.
Well done. I can't argue with anything said here. But I think I need to say there are minority groups that are likely to experience trauma in the church. Of course, the ones who question truth claims are going to be seen as a problem, as well as gay, etc. But the minority I belong to are highly sensitive people, who take things very seriously. High sensitivity includes high sensitivity to fear. Even the nice teachings of the church have a dark side if taken too seriously. Take eternal families for instance. It sounds nice until it becomes a threat: "If you don't do everything expected of you by church leadership you will not be with your family, forever". If you happen to like your family this is a monumental threat, that comes with overwhelming fear of loss and abandonment. Something most humans take for granted, such as being with their loved ones after death, can be held ransom by a religious teaching that sounds good on the surface (families CAN be together forever, IF). But, if teachings of the church aren't taken too seriously, then the dark side isn't much of a problem, and people can live ok just focusing on the pleasant side of the teaching. So yes, the church can bring many benefits - most members after all are really nice people. But for those susceptible to chronic anxiety or depression, I can't recommend the church. But that's just my experience. I do like this channel though because it's the best experience with the church I've had. For better or worse, the church will always be part of my life because all my family are members.

If a church expects people to tithe 10 or more percent of their income, then I would certainly expect them to help the church members in time of need. Any church, of whatever religion, that asks it's adherents to give a nice percentage of one's income (in the range of thousands of dollars per year) to them should be obligated to do so. Let's be real though, giving back to congregants in crisis a small percentage of what they gave in the first place - and as ya'll said, you may have to "work" for it on on top of it, it's not a handout, doesn't give the church alot of brownie points. It's a pittance in comparison.
Yea, the Bishop might ask one to take a class on how to become self-sufficient. That will really pay back help. One can not complain that tithing is taking food out of the mouths of hungry children, as many critics do, and then dismiss the help the Church gives the needy. Tithing is principally used to support building churches and temples, which is Doctrinally important to the LDS faith. It is not used to enrich Church Leaders, the vast majority of which are volunteers. A significant portion is used for charitable services that do not directly help members in need.
@@brettmajeske3525 Churches, at least in the United States, aren't required to be open as to the income they receive and spend- unlike nonreligious nonprofits which are legally required to be an open book on the matter of income they receive and how it's spent. How much money The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has is unknown, let alone how they spend it. Ditto for other religious groups like the Catholic Church. We can speculate as to whether it's being well spent, but it's just that - speculation.
@@carolinejohnson8871 Well to a large degree you are correct. In America churches are required to report charitable donations received. I just got my tax information from the Church a few weeks ago. Necessary documentation if I want to claim the charitable deduction. In the case of the LDS Church there is another level, not required by law, of oversight. The Church has both an internal auditing department, and a contract with an independent auditing service, devoted to protecting the integrity of sacred funds. An annual report is made in General Conference certifying the usage of tithing funds according to scriptural purposes.

Opposition then came not from the world like i expected but from members and my bishop. My bishop thought he was Jesus (in the ward) . Nope. I live in Michigan. Even during Covid 10-15 people show up to help strangers move in. You do need to inform the Elder's Quorum of your move in date though. The number usually drops to 4-7 people when there is less than 24 hours notice.
Family home teaching, everybody loves forced friends! Literally cannot remember a month when I was a member where we weren’t admonished for having low home teaching numbers.

There are very real and lasting spiritual benefits. If you read a verse of scripture every day, you will live your life differently. If you live like you believe in God, even more seriously, you will have a far more changing and lasting good experience, even if times get hard. If you live as a faithful member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you feel the love and strength that comes from belonging to that community of people, but if it is spiritual strength that you are looking for, than it will be greater blessings even than anything I've listed here..
That is not the doctrine or policy of the Church. Actually as a Native American we believe you are a special and elect people prophesied to rule North America and that the white oppressors will be your servants.

It wasn’t easy to meet the people in my neighborhood or get involved in my community. Then I started doing lessons with the elders and they’d tell me they were helping someone move or trimming someone’s hedges or cooking dinner for someone and I’d ask if I could tag along. I’ve met a ton of cool people who I wouldn’t have met if it wasn’t for that volunteer opportunity. And I got to help people, which is always good. :)

@@hollayevladimiroff131 I came from other evangelical churches to the LDS church. Trust me, the LDS church is better. They offer far more than any other churches I attended. People get too caught up in doctrinal differences and not on the commonalities that make us part of a Christian community.
In seminary 40 years ago a guy in the class asked our seminary teacher “what if the church isn’t true”, the seminary teacher just said then there is no better way to bring such happiness. So true!!
Even though I am not a member of the church. A couple of missionaries helped me out. One of them was really good with engines and fixed my snow blower. I was especially grateful because we were expecting 18-24 inches of snow the next day. We got lucky and got only 12 inches. However, if it wasn't for that kind missionary, I would have been in trouble. Shoveling wet snow, especially that much is dangerous for the human body.
However the snowblower did it in 15 minutes.
I will never forget their kindness.

You mentioned a really good point: even if the doctrine is 100% false and it’s some strange cult, at least the gospel leads us to live a reasonably good life. It’s not like we are demon sex cannibals or something. It doesn’t hurt to try to better yourself and try to serve others through a system with structure that promotes personal and family growth. We have services and help for nearly all of life’s difficult situations, with new literature and programs constantly rolling out. Life is still hard, but it’s easier in a way because something (I like to think it’s the Savior and keeping my covenants) brings me joy in daily life. Whatever that is, it’s a good thing (Moroni taught all good things come from Christ btw) and I want to stick with it. Thanks for the video!

A study by UCLA about ten years ago showed that active, male, members of the Church had average life expectancy almost 10 years longer than the average males in the US. The study cited the Church's health code and other reasons for the improved life longevity.
I swaped from Germany to England, I told my bishop the area I need to go, he contact the ward there and they help us to find a place to stay. As a member no netter where you go, you always find a place to sleep. That is not excluded for the church but a nice thing.

Waiting until you're married was very thought out, by Heavenly Father.
It's more than JUST being chaste, and obedient to Heavenly Father. He LOVES us more than we can comprehend. He doesn't enjoy seeing us suffer. He mourns with us, and grieves with us as well.
Because of lack of self respect, self control, self esteem, parental guidance, (in terms of real life, and/or spiritual development) AND having normal rampant teenage hormones, I became sexually active at a really young age.
After I grew out of my teenage years, I got married, had kids, and got a divorce. I ended up back on the same path I was previously, but I would rationalize it.
I finally got to that point where it stopped being fun. I started feeling more alone, more used, and less...I don't know...special? Needed? Truly appreciated and wanted? Important? ... basically, I wanted to be LOVED, not used for a night or two.
So I tried dating, and got my heart broken a few times, and started back on my old habits.
It wasn't until I really started having a healthier relationship with Heavenly Father, and started trusting Him, that it finally clicked.
It's not JUST about "saving yourself for your spouse" ... it's also about "saving yourself for YOURSELF."
Imagine not having any regrets, (or a basis for comparison) when you get married, and give yourself completely to them.
I sure as crap wish I had waited.
And I mean that as personal feelings, religion aside.
And that's just one side of things.
Unplanned pregnancy begats financial, emotional, and physical challenges.
Abortion isn't an easy thing to go through either. Physically, emotionally, psychologically....

Benefits are: We belong to Christ's Church, we know God's plan and have been given the knowledge and authority needed to gain exaltation. No other religion offers that.

Me too! When I was in a Singles Ward in Las Vegas (MANY years ago!) I had the group Family Home Evening lesson and decided to teach everyone to crochet. The boys were really into it and the girls were not. Too bad.
I just love the beautiful younger elders. Just looking at them makes me happy.
When I was on a mission, the relief society (local women's organization) helped my mom with her laundry and cleaning. That was a huge relief to me, knowing that she was getting help that she needed.
Help with rent, dating service (single adults), help getting a job, learning a language, learning about other religions, learning to work hard, having a knowledge of the importance of faith, grace, and works and how they fit together in an indescribable way. Not being forced to accept a creed, having church without ritual and temple with ritual, leaning to sell, and more.
Learning to pray and not being afraid to ask for something.
I have to say that it's a compelling argument (basically Pascal's wager I think) in the scenario where there is no God, church members are still super blessed. Health wise, family wise, community wise. With so much good fruit, can the tree really be bad? And again, even if the tree isn't of divine origin, it's still a damn good tree yielding sweet fruits.

Yes. We could look at the doctrine of becoming Gods as being an I'm better than you scenario. However on the flip side, that attitude can also bring out the best in people because if we can become like God, then our worth as the children of God and thus heirs, is limitless. It makes a world of confidence and self worth. It's one of the reasons i found hope and got out of a self hating depression. People are worth it. You are worth it. I am worth it. The people who place themselves on a pedestal of thinking their better than others probably won't achieve Godhood unless they repent. The I'm better than you mindset is pride which is sin. One of my road blocks is public speaking in Church - I haven’t joined the church yet - How does someone that has never grown up in the church get that ability to do so ? I have Never been to a church where everyone was so Nice and friendly to everyone - They truly care for one another - Does each ward Host such events about money management and budgeting ?
Yes many do. You don’t have to speak but you may be given the chance do. I am a reconvert and would definitely recommend moving forward 👍🏻

I love that this church is all about loving God and Family. The day I met the elders I was moving stuff around in my house ie furniture and without a hesitation they asked if they could help plus it was way over 100 degrees while they were walking. Their conviction to walk in this heat all for the love of God placed a yes in my heart and I’ve been grateful to them ever since

I love how all of these examples have a cacophony of downsides before you support them.
Let's be honest,..the historical Church offered "an inheritance in Zion" which (among other things, ) included farmlands. This was a very big deal, especially to converts coming from Europe who (for generations) were tenement farmers. Even in 19th Century, Utah, 18 year olds were typically given plots of land to own and to work, under the terms of the "United Order." Some of these land-holdings are still in family hands.
Those days may come again, but for now we live according to commandments and our rewards are more of an eternal nature.

Exorcisms in LDS church? Haven't heard of them, can you elaborate? I read a few things and sure I didn't hear anything like it but it reminds me how Moses cast Satan out of his presence though the power of Christ.
There was times where I knew daemons were near me and influencing me though sin and such, I was able to cast them out in the name of Jesus Christ, as in the Bible. Now the demons did not physically control me but I did feel a lot different then when the Holy Spirit was with me.

I do just want to point out that you are both white cishet men, which is the demographic which generally has the most positive experience in the LDS church so it makes sense that you've had largely positive interactions with your wards. I think it could be interesting to see an episode discussing any downsides to being Mormon. Maybe an approach of countering negatives with positives? For example: sometimes the culture of purity and chastity can lead to feeling a need to always be perfect and then feeling shame when something goes wrong. To counter this negative, shame is not something heavenly Father wants us to feel, and there is always a way forward.

Shame can be good tho, if you feel shame it means you are aware of your mistakes and can improve. Obviously it should be "healthy shame" but still.
The rules against pre marital sex encourage people to get married earlier and with people they probably shouldn't and that leads to unhealthy relationships and a higher divorce rate than average.

In general, the 7th day adventist health code is better (encourages more vegetarianism, eating nuts, and low salt) and they live longer. The jury is still out on coffee and tea, with some studies suggesting that it may reduce the onset of dementia and help people live longer. Mormons in general and society at large would do well to limit intake of processed sugars and to exercise more.
You raise some good points. However, the Word of Wisdom actually encourages us to eat meat very sparingly and to consume everything in moderation. Keeping the body in good health through exercise is also implied.

However, by 1920 things had shifted and temperance was given more emphasis than meat avoidance. Full compliance took some time as many people who had been born prior to it being a requirement for temple attendance (1920) still consumed alcohol on occasion.
I see the term ‘mormonism’ as the name of a culture. ‘Mormonism’ is not at all as a synonym of ‘church of Jesus Christ of LDS’. The church of Christ in Christ’s understanding is in essence a group of people (two or more) united under His authority and with the authentic purpose of taking one another to heaven, check Jesus Christ’s answer to Joseph Smith on why all churches available at the time were ‘wrong’ (JSH 1:19). A ‘mormon’ in that sense is not necessarily a disciple of Jesus Christ, he might attend church but mainly due to cultural or social forces not necessarily motivated primarily by reaching heaven. I agree that the ‘mormon culture’ may be toxic sometimes but never the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Christ’s understanding of what that means. A culture is a necessary thing but can take no one to heaven.
A group of people (two or more) are only an assembly (ecclesia) of Christ if their purpose is heaven, if the purpose is of cultural or social nature, they are not the church of Christ even if they have authority. It is as simple as that.
If I have the privilege to see that my local community is drifting away from the rock of Christ, turning the church into a culture, it is my duty to work with love to bring it back otherwise I myself am no longer a disciple of Christ (Luke 12:48), I may be a counter culture fighter alright but not a disciple.
Well done. I can't argue with anything said here. But I think I need to say there are minority groups that are likely to experience trauma in the church. Of course, the ones who question truth claims are going to be seen as a problem, as well as gay, etc. But the minority I belong to are highly sensitive people, who take things very seriously. High sensitivity includes high sensitivity to fear. Even the nice teachings of the church have a dark side if taken too seriously. Take eternal families for instance. It sounds nice until it becomes a threat: "If you don't do everything expected of you by church leadership you will not be with your family, forever". If you happen to like your family this is a monumental threat, that comes with overwhelming fear of loss and abandonment. Something most humans take for granted, such as being with their loved ones after death, can be held ransom by a religious teaching that sounds good on the surface (families CAN be together forever, IF). But, if teachings of the church aren't taken too seriously, then the dark side isn't much of a problem, and people can live ok just focusing on the pleasant side of the teaching. So yes, the church can bring many benefits - most members after all are really nice people. But for those susceptible to chronic anxiety or depression, I can't recommend the church. But that's just my experience.
I do like this channel though because it's the best experience with the church I've had. For better or worse, the church will always be part of my life because all my family are members.

If a church expects people to tithe 10 or more percent of their income, then I would certainly expect them to help the church members in time of need. Any church, of whatever religion, that asks it's adherents to give a nice percentage of one's income (in the range of thousands of dollars per year) to them should be obligated to do so. Let's be real though, giving back to congregants in crisis a small percentage of what they gave in the first place - and as ya'll said, you may have to "work" for it on on top of it, it's not a handout, doesn't give the church alot of brownie points. It's a pittance in comparison.
Yea, the Bishop might ask one to take a class on how to become self-sufficient. That will really pay back help.
One can not complain that tithing is taking food out of the mouths of hungry children, as many critics do, and then dismiss the help the Church gives the needy. Tithing is principally used to support building churches and temples, which is Doctrinally important to the LDS faith. It is not used to enrich Church Leaders, the vast majority of which are volunteers. A significant portion is used for charitable services that do not directly help members in need.

How much money The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has is unknown, let alone how they spend it. Ditto for other religious groups like the Catholic Church. We can speculate as to whether it's being well spent, but it's just that - speculation.

In the case of the LDS Church there is another level, not required by law, of oversight. The Church has both an internal auditing department, and a contract with an independent auditing service, devoted to protecting the integrity of sacred funds. An annual report is made in General Conference certifying the usage of tithing funds according to scriptural purposes.

Nope. I live in Michigan. Even during Covid 10-15 people show up to help strangers move in. You do need to inform the Elder's Quorum of your move in date though. The number usually drops to 4-7 people when there is less than 24 hours notice.

There are very real and lasting spiritual benefits. If you read a verse of scripture every day, you will live your life differently. If you live like you believe in God, even more seriously, you will have a far more changing and lasting good experience, even if times get hard. If you live as a faithful member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you feel the love and strength that comes from belonging to that community of people, but if it is spiritual strength that you are looking for, than it will be greater blessings even than anything I've listed here..

That is not the doctrine or policy of the Church. Actually as a Native American we believe you are a special and elect people prophesied to rule North America and that the white oppressors will be your servants.

My point is that all LDS Doctrine/Prophecies regarding Native Americans turn out pretty good from their perspective.

There is no curse in LDS doctrine for non whites.
The intro clip, paraphrase, "even if we are a crazy cult...it's not a bad way". Wouldn't you be concerned in knowing the truth and not being a part of "cult"? If you are going to have doubts research, if you are devout you probably shouldn't be so light-hearted about salvation or damnation. How can you take a position if you don't take a firm position? Take stand on God's Word, exegete scripture, and challenge your comments and beliefs.
