Thanks for this useful video. Definitely helps. I will be receiving a 4Runner soon and definitely am considering in getting some measures implemented. I am in cyber security, so from a security standpoint it is always better to invest in tech that will mitigate the risk and we apply this simple concept in the field/industry.
That being said, I know with my insurance company - Aviva, they mentioned that the premium will go up if I don't get a 3rd party anti theft / immobilizer system installed on a 4Runner or Highlander. How would dealerships react to this when 3rd party hardware is installed? I am a bit decisive when they the dealership or Toyota Canada for example will deny any warranty related work even if the part installed did not cause the issue in the first place.
As always appreciate the videos you have uploaded and the knowledge provided.
When it comes to warranty, it is generally handled on a case by case basis, with our suggestion being, don't bring it up with your dealership unless it comes up, related to a service request. The dealers will almost always try to dissuade you from adding aftermarket anything, unless they are the ones adding it, which, is a conflict if you think about it. We always make it a point to tell our clients, if anything ever comes up with the vehicle, in terms of an issue, contact us first if there is any doubt whether it could be related, and then proceed from there to the dealer, or whomever services the vehicle.
Long story short though, theft has become such a huge issue, that it's almost mandatory to add anti theft measures to a Toyota or Lexus now, especially if you are in Canada, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver areas being the worst, right now.
