- "The Last Farewell" is a song from 1971 by the British folk singer Roger Whittaker. Whittaker hosted a radio programme in The United Kingdom in 1971, backed by a full orchestra with arrangements by Zack Lawrence. Whittaker is quoted as saying that "one of the ideas I had was to invite listeners to send their poems or lyrics to me and I would make songs out of them. We got a million replies, and I did one each week for 26 weeks."
Ron A. Webster, a silversmith from Birmingham, England, sent Whittaker his poem entitled "The Last Farewell", and this became one of the selections to appear on the radio programme. It was subsequently recorded and featured on Whittaker's 1971 album New World in the Morning (A Special Kind of Man in the US and Canada). Although the song failed to reach the music charts then, it is one of the fewer than forty all-time singles to have sold 10 million (or more) physical copies worldwide.
Mutiny on the Bounty is a 1962 American Technicolor epic historical drama film starring Marlon Brando, Trevor Howard and Richard Harris, based on the novel Mutiny on the Bounty by Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Hall.
Brando married the actress (Tarita Teriipaia), who played Maimiti in the film, in 1962.
Mutiny on the Bounty was filmed in Ultra Panavision 70 with a 2.76:1 aspect ratio.

Another voice of my childhood has left.
A fitting tribute to Roger Whitaker, may he rest in peace.
RIP Roger Whittaker, love your music dearly, especially this song!
When I was young, a friends father would play Roger Whittaker records on a very expensive sound system. I was knocked out by the quality of this mans voice, and it's stayed with me for 40 years. I saw Mutiny on the Bounty in my 20's and marvelled at Brando's ease (and apparent fun) in playing an English naval officer in the age of sail. At work 15yrs down the line, I became friends with someone who'd been on the island at the time of filming - she'd only been a girl - but she said Brando's charm was just indescribable.... Thankyou for whoever put this together.
Op
cool story, thanks

A last farewell to you, Roger! We have loved you dearly.
There is something haunting about this song. Haunting, yes, but in a good way. Ahhhhhh, Regency Era England! Beautiful editing job! Masterful.
R.I.P. Roger - Thanks for the music.

Beauty, innocence and love so gorgeously interwoven and from a time when love was from the heart and the human voice could stir the heart.
This setting and this song with Roger Whittaker's peerless voice tops anything else I've seen on You Tube.
Thank you Music Video Vault.
Rest in peace dad. You passed 6 years a go. Still miss you. XXXXXX
Gorgeous orchestration and Roger Whittaker has a great voice with perfect inflection and such a smooth delivery. Always one of my all-time favorites. David
Timeless song never gets old
Super, besser geht es nicht.. danke!
How truly beautiful- both the song and the movie!
The girl wasn't bad either
Love this song and movie. I remember this song playing on the radio in the 70's and it really paints the lyrical picture well. This song also resonates on a personal level as it depicts a story very much like ones handed-down through my family background. the only difference... the English sailor came back & married my Grandma, settling down on the family Island in the end 👌. Though the song has been covered by other artists, I think Roger Whittaker's voice/version is by far the best. Thanks for posting this video and song 😇👏
Thanks for sharing that Ellen. Music will always have that magic within itself to not only provide memories we each have, but bring ppl together with an unseen connection that starts from within each of our own hearts. I just wanted to say that, and wish you all the positive vibes and a blessed life as well.
One of the very best.
I love Roger Whittaker's music. The original recordings are my favorite. thank you for posting this video
Just a wonderful song by a very talented and gifted singer.
When I was watching the biographical "Listen to Me, Marlon Brando" and it was showing his love of Tahiti ( and other Islands ) I swear I was thinking of THIS SONG! I am so glad someone made a video of it. Brilliant. I loved that song even as a youngster and I still do.
A magnificent gem from an incredibly fabulous year! Roger’s only charted U.S. hit. There are countless remakes of this song floating around the Web but the best of them all is this one - the elusive, original 45 version that played on the radio. THANK YOU for it. Released on March 22, 1975 reaching #19 on June 21. It i not from 1971!
Should have reached #1 beautiful song
je me noie dans ces images tarita est belle et bon sang que j'aime Tahiti .....❤❤
R.I.P. Roger.
Finally the original recording from 1975
Yes I find the later version over orchestrated
Love this version
Roger has passed away I’ve just heard 😢😢
I don't think there was ever a more soothing voice on the planet than Roger Whitaker❤.
I like this video....!
Superb song .....
A God given voice. Always loved his music. RiP
Rest in peace Roger Whittaker.
I do not think there is another singer that can sing this song like he does. It cannot be repeated
I remember Roger Whiticker back in the 70's on TOTP's . Originally from South Africa , his parents died there . He came to England & had a few hits & what a lovely voice he had . I recently googled his name & found he's now living in France at the young Ge of 92 , thank you Roger for your great songs & lovely voice .
Exactly!! This is the version I remember as a child in the 70's. There are as you mentioned, countless versions floating around and I don't want to hear them.

Yes he had a very special voice & he was a great whistler of tunes . Love his music , think he'd be about 84 now .

Movie , Mutney on the Bounty , the beautiful polalasion women & the two main Characters Fletcher Marlanon Brando & Captail Bligh Trevor Howard .
HIs father was murdered in Kenya in 1989 by a gang of four men. His mother was tortured and raped almost to death, somehow survived, returned to England, and almost certainly never returned to Kenya. See Wikipedia.
One of the genius songs that i listen to every evening to calm my mind before bed. LOVE IT
A unique voice one of the greats of music hard to beat loved your songs rest in peace roger thanks for the memories and you will always live on through through your great songs the last farewell and i dont believe in if anymore roger was as good as anyone ive ever listened to and better than many will never forget this great of music
I immigrated to Thailand 6 years ago, I have used the lines, Far away from your land of endless sunshine, To my land full of rainy skies and gales, numerous times to explain to friends and family in the UK why I will never return to England.
Unlike the character in this song, I would never leave my wife and this wonderful country to return to a country I no longer view as my home.
England has fallen 😢
That's intense but I feel the same... Im from the US and now live in the Philippines. I will never go back home again too. Cheers mate
@jaidee9570 When you get older you'll find out there's no place like home, and then you'll long to get back to England.
A top tune & a top ten hit . My dad died 3 years ago he had his album & that song was on it . He had a CD with that song too. We give that album to a charity shop I wish a would have kept it.
For me he was the best
No one else sounded like him
Alot of his music carried messages of life
And what always gets overlooked is what he did for charity
He was a amazing singer
But he was also a wonderful human being
Cherished classic...Thank you Sir...
This song was written by a young Nova Scotian man. His Mom sent it to Roger Whittaker. Makes me tear up every time I hear it.
I agree. The music and the movie and the man come together as one
Beautiful. Great lyrics and what a voice. Good video.

A lovely song which will always remind me of someone I knew 50yrs ago!
What a lovely song!
OMG I simply love this video !!!!
I have admired this wonderful voice since the late 60's. ho rich are his vocal tones.
Video shows scenes from the film "Mutiny on the Bounty (1962)" with Marlon Brando.
I have never seen this film myself so I checked it on Imdb.
The Hawaïan female playing opposite Brando was Tarita Teriipaia. She married Brando in 1962 and though they later divorced, she bore him two children.
RIP
