SEAT BELT Pretensioners & Airbag WARNING LIGHT Workaround - DIY Budget Campervan Conversion

  • In this video we're fixing the airbag warning light on the dash caused by the original seat belt pretensioner no longer being connected by using bypass resistors. Later in the video we'll be taking a trip to our local MOT centre to see if our fix has worked and find out whether or not our van has passed and is roadworthy.
    Below are some of the links* for bits and bobs we have used in this video.

    Ever since we fitted aftermarket captain chairs to our campervan there has been an airbag warning light flashing on the dashboard because the new swivel seats pretensioner cables were not compatible with the old pretensioner plugs. The answer (partially) was by using airbag bypass resistors!
    There appears to be a lot of conflicting information on the internet how to tackle an airbag warning light appearing on the dashboard; we should know, we've followed most of it! So in this video we wanted to show you exactly what worked for us. If you have a Citroen Relay, Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer or RAM Promaster this should work for you too!
    So WHO are WE? We’re Scarlett, Craig and Merlin and along with Helsing, form the PILGRIM PODS!
    If you enjoy this video why not check out some of our other content? Delve even deeper into our channel; we thought we’d create a series of vlogs chronicling the conversion of our old panel van HELSING (did you see what we did there?) into a weekend warrioring campervan for ADVENTURING and EXPLORING in the UK.
    Each vlog will cover a stage or smaller element of our campervan build, showing our ideas put into action and highlighting our SUCCESSES and FAILURES along the way. With no previous experience this may make for an interesting journey! Our plan is to convert a cheap van on a small budget without cutting corners and at the end, have a campervan to be proud of. We’re hoping you’d like to join us for this journey and that you find our uploads ENTERTAINING and even, INFORMATIVE!
    So, in our seventh vlog we're attempting to fix the seatbelt pretensioners in our campervan to remove the annoying airbag warning light from our dashboard. Then we'll be driving to our local test centre to see if our fix has worked, is above board and legal.

    I've said it before and I'll say it again you got an absolute bargain with that van. Really looking forward to seeing how you'll tackle the paint.

      Seems to be the case but we'll see! Hoping to roller it this week after work if the rain does one... 🤞Thanks again for checking our videos out!

      Hi Ray, glad you liked it! Thanks for checking our video out and subscribing, we really appreciate you doing so. We're almost at a stage where the conversion should start gathering some real momentum now. Next video, painting the van a different colour with a roller. The colour clue is in our channel logo. 😊

    Thanks for the video! The link in the description doesn't work anymore, what resistance are the ones you have used?

    In their single seat on a newer relay, there is an orange plug. I’m wondering if this is where I would place the resistor. Having a bit of a nightmare!

    Nice fix , but what was the resistance of the resistors please, and maybe a link to the smaller ones would be handy also for other in the same position, Great build

    Good video! I have a van similar to yours (Ducato L1H1) which allegedly has a kerb weight of 2t. How is your van 3.3t? My MOT is due next month just hoping to avoid same situation you had. Cheers

      @PilgrimPods  3 роки тому

      I don't know mate, it just is. 😆 I never knew the smallest version had a lighter payload but I guess it makes sense as the MWB is 3.3t and the LWB and XLWB are 3.5t. Good luck with the Mot! 🙂👍

    I know it's been a while since this video was released - but that van has a gross weight - when fully loaded - of 3.3t. When empty it is somewhere around 2.1t - and as the van was clearly empty, that's what should matter when raising it on a lift. I have the LWB version which is about 2.2t empty.

    HI - did you ever sort out the driver side issue or have you left the driver pretensioner plugged in and with the belt buckle clipped into it?

    • @PilgrimPods
      @PilgrimPods  3 роки тому +1

      Left it in the end to concentrate on the campervan build. With this temporary fix it got it through the MOT which was the whole point of doing it. Once the build is complete I will be returning to it to sort out a better solution though. 😊👍

    did you sort the pretension issue or have you left the old pretender under the seat

    • @PilgrimPods
      @PilgrimPods  3 роки тому

      We haven't sorted it yet. The old one is still tucked away under the seat. I do plan on properly sorting it but it's not high on the list at the moment. We're both desperate to crack on with the interior! Thanks for watching and subscribing. We're really grateful for your support. 😊👍💙❤

      @@PilgrimPods Just to be clear did you just take the old pretensioner off the old seat and leave it connected as it would have been and it worked? I've bought the same seats after seeing your video and so am expecting the same issue! Great videos and Soooooooo helpful for me starting out! :)

    hi, is it possible to measure and pass the resistance value. thanks

    • @PilgrimPods
      @PilgrimPods  3 роки тому

      Not any time soon sorry mate. The build is kinda on hiatus while the Euros are on. I'd imagine the answer you're looking for could easily be found on a van build forum or Facebook group, that's where I found the advise for the resistor and what one to use. Good luck and hope you find what you're looking for. 🙂

    Would the airbag warning light issue cause engine to go limp mode ?.....I put in a swivel plate ..I did disconnect battery etc but when I put some sleeving on the cable under seat the warning light and message saying airbag see handbook ...I am worried as someone told me van may go in limp mode 😩

    Bargain on that van. We bought a 2006 Fiat Ducato SWB low roof in June. The older body style. 85k miles, good history. Bit of rust to sort though. £2k. So I think your van was a really good deal!

    • @PilgrimPods
      @PilgrimPods  4 роки тому

      Cheers George. To be honest with you the van was bought on a whim because of the price. People were put off by the paint. We had a big holiday booked for April as a sort of late honeymoon and then intended to get a van when back but this was too good to pass up. The MOT test only confirmed things. 😊 We just wished the mileage was closer to your 85k! 😁👍
