In 2022 when I was taking a trip, I intentionally booked a trip with an 8 hour layover in Atlanta so I can explore the airport thoroughly. I explored all of the terminals, walked through all of the underground connections and was able to comfortably visit all of the sky clubs and still had about an hour and a half before my departure. I am a reviewer for Google so I was able to comfortably take photographs and videos of the airport and most of the restaurants and lounges in the airport to upload to Google maps.
I agree with your take. Despite its size, ATL is definitely the easiest airport to transfer through in the US. It's maybe not the best-looking one, and finding a place to relax (outside of a lounge) for a long period of time can be difficult, but I don't have to worry if I have a sub-60-minute layover there. It's extremely efficient. That said, starting/ending at ATL can be a pain since all O&D passengers are funneled through T, and only a few can use F, such as international passengers and domestic passengers with just a carry-on (also doesn't help that F is not directly connected to MARTA either).
Glad you agree! One thing I struggled to find in my footage was anyone running for their next gate, which is a good problem! Clearing security through F is one of ATL's little secrets, in my opinion!
@@MilesByFootThey opened up another security checkpoint at the lower level of the North terminal. But as an Atlanta resident, I have to struggle going through TSA since the airport’s layout funnels all domestic passengers through one security area.
We are flying for the first time in a few months, and I was hesitant about connecting via ATL, since it's soooo big! Your video helped me visualize what I'll encounter and alleviate some fears. Thanks!
I am travelling from Scotland in September and I agree it has alleviated my fear of using Atlanta as the connecting airport. This video is much appreciated.
Took my first flight there about a month ago to visit my uncle. That place is like walking a race track compared to my airport which only has 2 runways and 3 concourse terminals. It’s a nice airport though
This is an excellent view of the airport. It has been many years since I have traveled through ATL. {I hope to be traveling again later this year and will be connecting in ATL.}
Excellent descriptive video. I have not connected there yet, but will soon. However, I have gone to Atlanta and found it easy to move about. The train is excellent.
I've flown through Atlanta a couple of times now and it is indeed extremely easy to navigate. For me it's now the standard lay-over airport when travelling from Amsterdam to Tampa and back 🙂
My most memorable moment at ATL was my very first time there. I was in 7th grade going to Huntsville for Space Camp so of course we had a layover in ATL. As soon as we got off the plane. I saw an elderly lady on a golf cart and she dropped one of her bags and as she was reaching for it, she fell off. I know she’s gone now considering this was in 2008 but I was so scared for her. Ive only had layovers in ATL and as a blind person going through many times, i actually find this easy to navigate and I walk around confidently. Im about to fly into ATL next week and so I’m excited to FINALLY break out of the airport after all there years. I guess I can update when I fly out of there in a few months!😆😅
Tell you what, Miles. Hartsfield-Jackson ATL Int'l Airport, as the world's busiest airport since 1998, is part of Metro Atlanta's transportation system because Atlanta is linked to many railways and roads, making it a transportation hub of the Southeastern US. Lastly, the airport is in both Fulton and Clayton Counties and in parts of the city limits of Atlanta, College Park, and Hapeville.
I’ve been flying out and connecting through ATL for years. I still would not book a flight with less than an hour to connect and more time now that age is slowing me down a bit. Atlanta is still one of the simplest airports to navigate.
An excellent assessment; I love ATL, and while they help in some places and it is simple, you'll have to walk a considerable distance to get to a connection, with tight ones becoming more difficult. I'd say ATL's made it as simple as possible, but it's still not "easy," just because of the airport's size and traffic volume!
i have a 40 min layover here tomorrow and im so nervous 🥲 its my first flight alone and ive heard 40 mins is cutting it close, but this rly eased my nerves
We are flying Chicago to Bonaire, only a 46 minute layover in Atlanta, so we have to go from domestic to the international corridor, carry on bags only, flying Delta. Do we take the plane train or do we have to walk it?
maybe it has to be but for me its a nightmare. I fly out of SFO and that airport is a piece of cake. When I fly back east again I'm going to find out if there is another airport for a layover.. Then again I may just have to find a clear way to navigate it. Thanks for making the vid
The bigger the airport, the broader the spectrum of experiences. I've had great layovers at ATL and pretty terrible problems here, too. I do hope the next time you're through will be better, though! SFO's a great airport; only been through a time or two, but never had problems there!
Try Dallas Fort Worth, easy transfer with Sky Train, 2 stations per concourse and has plenty of lounges, especially Capital one lounge my parents went to and enjoyed
Don't worry, ATL is pretty easy to navigate, and frankly, it doesn't look too different than it did in 2006. Even if you didn't find your way then, you'll find your way now!
Flying London To Jax connecting in ATL on uk passport, I’m only taking hand luggage, guess I need to clear customs then make my way to domestic, is this still via bus?
You'll still clear customs the same way, yes. You can go airside again from customs, then take the Plane Train (the people mover) to the gate that connects you to JAX.
I love your channel.SDF is my home airport as well and I’ve wondered what other airports in neighboring states look like.Any chance you can show us what Nashville (BNA) looks like?
Thank you for this content. We're have an almost 2 hour layover in ATL on our early morning Delta flight from BWI to Fort Lauderdale. I was hoping we could pop over to The Club lounge for a quick breakfast. What do you think? Our flight is supposed to land at ATL at 7:57 am, and our connecting flight is at 9:40 am.
You're welcome! This isn't a lot of time to linger, but you won't be rushed if these times are correct. Assume you'll have no more than an hour at the Club and you'll be fine!
Duty-free stores don't typically sell electronics, in my experience, or at least they're not known for it. Duty-free primarily works for consumable goods like, food, spirits, and cosmetics, as well as some fashion items. There are large duty-free stores in the centers of Concourses E and F, with the largest being Duty-Free Americas in F, to the right at the top of the escalator from the Plane Train.
ATL doesn't have an Apple store. There are a couple places that incidentally sell Apple products, like InMotion, which has two locations at ATL, one in the center of Concourse A, and one in Concourse E, at the top of the escalator to the right when you come up from the Plane Train.
Kinda sucks that air Canada is so far from the united lounge when ur flying first class. I wish there was a maple leaf lounge or another united lounge in the international terminal.
ATL is located 8 miles south of downtown along I-85 (main landside terminal) or I-75 (international departures), and it's accessible by the MARTA Light Rail on the Red and Gold lines in 25-30 minutes from the downtown station at Five Points.
Hello my name is Ben from New Jersey what is your name? I really enjoy traveling and seen your UA-cam videos but I actually have autism. Are you aware about people with autism? Normally I use JetBlue and I am a huge JetBlue fan. See you soon.
Make sure nothing major goin on the day you travel. I arrived 2 hrs prior 2 an inland flight but it happened 2 be the same day Trump had 2 turn himself in 2 Atl for booking. Everything was shut down. The ckpoint lines were snaked thru entire airport & told atleast 4 hrs long. Coludnt even tell where the end of the line was ! Needless to say I missed my flight & had 8 hrs 2 kill till next 1. ( which the airline did cover ) But I could've had almost another day w/friends, not gotten up @ 5 a.m just 2 miss my flight or gotten there earlier had I known or been given a heads up. It was crazy !
And fare warning. I was there in late Nov of '24 & COULD NOT find 1 vendor, shop, restaurant that would accept cash. They were all card only ! Ridiculous ! If they have a stealing problem w/employees they should atleast notify their paying clientele prior to them arriving, having to wait sometimes hrs; with no c.c & cash only !
The connections are easy as long as the plane-train is working and you’re not going from an international flight to Terminal T, like what happened to me. Each concourse is 1/4 of a mile from each other, so walking JUST from F to T is 1.5 MILES!!!! Not to mention that my T gate was at the end of the concourse.
For as busy as ATL is, it could always be worse. I always hope the Plane Train is working, and knock on wood, it has been for me after all these years!
