It is even more amazing when you consider that this tour took place in 1994 well before the availability of today's technology, and still hasn't been duplicated.

Hey now - watch that “ancient history” talk about the 80’s and 90’s! We were doing just fine, thank you very much.
It’s funny how people imagine these very high-tech eras as having been backward or something, just because we hadn’t hit the millennium bug yet.
Not that much has changed, kid.

That tube is called a talk box, and there are a few other artists who are known to use it, for example, Joe Walsh, Rocky Mountain Way; Peter Frampton, 'Do You Feel Like We Do,' and Bon Jovi, 'Living on a Prayer'. I'm sure there are others. As for this song, it's one of my favorite later-era Pink Floyd songs I love the dreamy quality at the beginning and the call-and-response background vocals. The computerized voice you hear at the beginning is that of the physicist Stephen Hawking. David Gilmour saw a TV commercial featuring Stephen Hawking talking about communication (or the lack of it) and was so moved by its message, he asked Stephen Hawking if he could use his voice in this song.

I agree 1994 and they are 10 times better than anything out now! I miss Pink Floyd they were the best by far and I've been to see them twice and most of the biggest bands.

“For Millions of years mankind lived just like the animals, until something happened which unleashed the power of our imagination, we learned to talk” - Opening line in “Keep Talking” - Pink Floyd. I consider it one of the all time greatest songs ever written.

I don't know why this song is so unpopular. For me it's brilliant, perfect, a hit for the radio, there's not a single bad note here. Both text and music. And Steven Hawking is a Cherry on cake.

Like I've said, every Pink Floyd song is an Experience! That's a "Talkbox" David Gilmour is using in this song, it's a device that melds together guitar notes with a human voice.
It was invented in the 1940 but didn't gain much attention, as I recall, until Peter Frampton used one on his iconic live album, "Frampton Comes Alive" released in January of 1976.
You can also hear David Gilmour use one in the song "Pigs, three different ones", from their 1977 "Animals" album.

Today's artists record music that may sound good from the studio yet seeing them live is ho hum to full on let down. Back in the day we would hear the recorded music on albums and radio and it was great....and seeing them live.... well.... they were even greater! This is a good example of that.

The Talk Box redirects the sound of the guitar. When you have a guitarist that is on God Level, the results are incomprehensible. Instead of going directly out of the speakers, it is redirected though the tube and into the musicians throat. Where the tone of the sound is controlled by the way the singer forms their mouth. It is picked up by microphone. Open is deeper closed is higher. A wawa movement really makes it amazing.

I have seen Pink Floyd Live 4 times… I saw this same show Syracuse Carrier Dome in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap froged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION. Nick Mason’s drumming is incredible and matches Gilmour’s guitar emotions while Richard Wright takes us on a Magic Carpet Ride of tones that form the foundation of it all.

So you are one of the privileged people to have seen Pink Floyd 4 times in their lifetime.
I saw them at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal in 1977 (In The Flesh Tour), then in 1988 (A Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour), and twice again in 1994 (The Division Bell Tour).
I had bought my tickets for the May 23 show, and I won a pair of tickets for the May 24 show.
I have never regretted having seen this show two evenings in a row, despite the fact that I made many people around me jealous.

I am that subscriber! And I knew you'd love this track, in my opinion one of the most under-rated songs on Pulse. The voice box is an amazing tool and David uses it to perfection. The kinda robotic voice you hear at the start and again later is none other than Professor Stephen Hawking . Really enjoyed your reaction again. Run Like Hell from Pulse lifts the tempo a bit and will blow you away - next up please!!!!!

The tube feeds the sound of the guitar into David Gilmore‘s mouth and he can change the sound by shaping his mouth. The sound is ultimately recorded by the singing mike. But that‘s why Gilmore needs to play the guitar and does not produce any sound with his voice, but „only“ shapes the sound out of the tube.

Showmanship was Pink Floyd's experience. Lighting director Mark Brinkman started with "The Wall' on. Greg Phillinganes ( Micheal Jackson music director) saw this concert and said they are at a different level. Pulse: "Sorrow." final song : 'run like hell" old song " Dogs of War'. Former band member and creator of the"Wall " WARNING: if you watch this you will want to watch the whole show"you tube "in the flesh" ( live) ( from roger water the wall ( Digital video). ********** won many awards across the world

Yeah, they thought outside the box by definition. By default, out of necessity. Ever since Syd had to leave, they found they couldn’t do hitsingles like they intended to. As Waters said, ‘Okay, we’ll do the long stuff…’ And they made it their own

I’ve been a Pink Floyd fan for fifty years. These two are very deep and very personal Pink Floyd songs, written by Roger Waters of Pink Floyd. They are more lyrics driven than music driven. They will show you another side of the band.

Thanks for doing my request - this track doesn't get enough credit (both musically and lyrically). FYI, the talk box channels his guitar into that tube, allowing him to change tone and frequency with mouth movements - in a sense, replacing his vocal cords with the guitar. Many below have noted other prominent users of this technology, but the preeminent one is Peter Frampton's "Do You Fell Like We Do". Here's a live performance: ua-cam.com/video/PDYRpa1uJRQ/v-deo.html

Unfortunately this song means way more than people realize it really means communication for the human race to not stop talking or there will be another World War if we keep up the track we're heading with blinders on the recipe for catastrophe is there on all levels now and so does my WW2 veteran family members that are still left
It's like one my favorite songs Folks Keep Talking from my favorite bands Pink Floyd when Stephen Hawking did his famous Commercial in the 90s saying as long as Mankind keeps communicating the human race still has a chance to turn it around no matter how close we get to another catastrophic global disaster like now we face in 2023 like some of my family who faught in WW2 so this never happens again unfortunately they now see all the ingredients are again like it was in 1937 only with hypersonic nukes and way more powerful and devastating warfare weapons on terrifying scale never thought possible it's almost incomprehensible to the mass destruction this will cause you think the most disturbing and scary movie in history threads about a nuclear Holocaust with the most realistic ending in movie history about really what will happen to are human race in end
Which is not being able to reproduce because of radiation wasteland on a apocalyptic scale that even surpasses another great WW3 ending movie on the Beach made in the 1950s where Australia was the last country standing waiting for the end of are existence again either way you look at it people like this song represents we need to keep talking or else
