Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Jim is a national treasure and should be protected at all costs.
Keep Nicolas Cage away from him.
If only he'd learn how to weld. And avoid mud.
Unless he gets another tractor stuck
Jim has not been fired for a While😂😂
how can they protect him, then all of them alergic to masks :/
Love that Jim decides to be in front of the camera more. Hope mom and dad are well.
“Are you kids ready to go back to school?”
“No”
That’s a whole mood and has been my whole school career😂
Yea I hate school because it takes me away from the farm
Famous last words "don't worry I won't put it on the internet" hahah! Another great video.
"Meeting of the minds goin on over there, and Jim too." 😆
Poor Jim.
Jim is a mastermind!
That just about killed me....
"A meeting of the minds...and Jim too" bwahahaha! Love your complicity and ribbing, great teamwork shows up that way.
I love how Zach was the only one laughing at that too!
Shout out to the real 🌟 of this episode Jim, Anna and Dij!!
T-shirts with pictures of Jim and the dogs!
have a whole off the husk episode dedicated to Jim. we need to learn more about this awesome guy
The look on your daughters face. "Are you happy your returning to school?" Priceless
3:25 always a smile for the camera, Jim's the man
Anyone else getting anxious seeing Jim weld without a helmet??
Those old guys...
Zack: "Seed is getting delivered"
Background: *Full of grainleg parts*
Me: *Excited for the next video*
Gotta do my part as a honorary grammar police officer, Excited*
@@hairlesscat6458 thanks. It's good to know, since English isn't our first language in Belgium. But we know plenty other languages.😅
@@bredelgaming5471 lol. No problem.
Good eye. I didn't even notice the tubes or cranes. To busy reading the license plate.🤦♂️
As someone who grew up with emerging hydraulics on tractors through the early sixties, i find the New Electronic Systems fascinating, bemusing and slightly scary.
60's? Hydraulics been around since the 20's
I like how a manufacturer built an implement that could be upgraded some 8 years down the road like that.....especially in this throw away world we live in now. Be nice if more things were like that. Doing projects like that are very fulfilling for sure!! NICE! Now you need some nice weather so you can have some fun.
“Words are hard”, five minutes earlier “not a fan of school either”.
Learning is desirable, it's the approach most schools use trying to achieve it that loses them a lot of fans.
@@ExternalInputs desirable huh... mr. high and mighty has arrived🤦
Can’t help but think of a neighbor years ago and his two cylinder popping Johnny planting two rows at a time. Not a computer in sight and the row markers were manual with a rope. Farming has come a long way. Thanks to you all.
And to think those two cylinder Deeres and two row planters were a big upgrade over horse drawn machines and planting by hand!
Yep, in the '70's the local blacksmith made anything you needed to get the work done. And yes, that's the 1970's. We still had horse-drawn equipment rusting in the fields when we bought the ranch in Utah. Dad had a Ford '40, and a two bottom flip plow, and putting in metal head-gates for irrigation was apparently a radical departure from canvas dams thrown across an irrigation ditch. It wasn't until his yield was 30 to 50% greater that people started paying attention to what he was doing. He'd taken soil samples to the local county Agriculture office and found out what the soil actually needed to grow different types of crops. Locals had been doing it the same way since the 1800's and hadn't taken advantage of how things had progressed.
This welder was saying "Not hot enough Jim" After 40 years sound tells the story.
"look at that seed fly out of there!"
This is a happy zack moment
I'm glad he's keeping it between the rows
Wow, the amount of lines, wires, fittings, connectors....insane! Bet this project was $$$$$$. It was like a machine gun that shoots seed. Crazy.
And suddenly Zach's worried about his roll cage in his racecar....
Having those low rolling chairs with that under tray must be a godsend in a garage/shed that size.
Hat's off to your dealership and John Deere, to be able to upgrade , without scrapping the old unit has to be a blessing. Remember, dogs don't work, they are supervisors, and expect you not to work them to exhaustion! Well done, Zack!
Jims such a lovely character hahahaha
He did a nice burn on you Zach at 8:11 :DDD
"I won't put it on the internet"
"Yeah Right I've heard that before"
Gotta Love Jim.
As hard as it is to find good help where'd you find a man like Jim? Every farm/business needs at least one or more. Knows his job, does it no muss no fuss! You have probably covered it earlier but I thought he deserved a 'shout out', YAY Jim!!! 👍🇺🇸
Somebody needs to invent a "Jim cloning" Device
Dog walks by man while reading tech manual, man reaches down and pets dog without looking. Yup, dog person!!!
from 80 F to rain - hard times :) here in Norway - north - were from 2-30s to sleet and 40s. were still waiting for tundra to thaw and to run tractors on the field without sinking yards into the bogs when spring arrives fully. This is why so many of us migrated to Minnesota some ..... years ago. KUDOS. However, there is still farming here - albeit small compared.
Maybe Jim's weld would have held if he had his own t-shirt rather than one that said Zach.
We are rebuilding our planter also.. Taking a while!
Can't wait to see y'all in the field
Prayers for Minnesota. Stay safe.
Jim: “It did”?
“It DID”???🥴🤣
Man planting season couldn’t come at a better time got stuff to watch while in quarantine
it is fun to see you do these things Thanks for another great video
That was fabulous! Can’t wait to see you in the field! Thanks
God bless ya Jim, love the banter you have with him Zach. 👍👍🇬🇧🇺🇸
I enjoy trying to figure out what a farmer from 100 years ago would say if he stumbled into Zach's shop and saw this equipment.
He would run away screaming.
My father worked behind draft horses about 90 years ago. He ended up working on missile guidance systems. Never again will we see such a huge technological revolution.
He'd say, Hell yeah, let me at it.
Try even 40 years.
Well given that 100 years ago they already had planes, trains, and cars, they’d probably be extremely curious to know how it works.
Today's technology is impressive. Thanks for taking us along with the rebuild. Looking forward to seeing it out in the field.
I Love those 2 dogs playing and chasing each other.. enjoy life is short👍😎
You n Jim’s back in forth is awesome. Gotta love it when you can have that in a workplace environment. Looking forward to planting
Watching you learn how it works will be fun. Bring popcorn & beverage.
I know it’s hard to video and work fast. I/we really appreciate you. Thanks to you and your producer (wife) for getting videos out. Love what Jim and the dogs do, and you too. Keep it between the rows.
Anna is having a busy day. So many humans to keep track of. Good pup.
Got some trimming in my yard done and now sitting down to this awesome channel.
I’m getting to see what I’m in for next year, we thought about pretty much the same upgrade to our planter but decided to put it off a year. This will be a good set of vids to go back to.
Great to see the nuts and bolts of what you guys do to keep us fed. You certainly earn your corn! :)
That was a TON of work. Nothing beats some sweat equity! Good job team.
Thank you! The science, math, and work put into farming is almost unbelievable. You make it understandable and, dare I say, fun. Keep your videos coming, please!!!
Meeting of the minds.. and Jim 😂😂😂
That is an impressive operation ! I’ll take mechanical inclination over book smarts any day.
Nice to see you always taking time to check on the dogs. Great video
Those seeds were moving!!! Love the technology. So very interesting too learn about. Thanks
Funny, while y’all were working on that, I was working pretty hard on the H C P. (Holding the Couch in Place). It is a rough gig, but somebody’s got to do it.
The ending hoist was a brilliant decision by the way.
We need bigger videos like this 🇬🇷
Hi Zack I’m a kids who loves faming and machines rumbling along paddocks/fields and farming all started with my AKUBRA hat. You have inspired me to realise what fun farming is but the difficulty’s of farming and consequences that also come with farming.
You really have inspired me
It is amazing how complicated the tech has progressed.
Jim rocking the #73 Zach Johnson late model T-shirt
Thats a lot of moving parts. Good luck in the fields.
Recently you posted a picture and it said working. Well all done working for the day and enjoying my little slice of heaven. Thanks for what you two do.
Luv the little "music stand" at `11:39 with the all of the open manuals, etc. Sorta like having the lyric sheet duct taped to the stage floor.
6 JD "technicians". My abicus was spininng so fast I had to cool it with a spray bottle while calculating labor
I noticed some other guy with a very professional looking camera. Maybe JD was providing the labor for free in exchange for shooting a promotional video?
You say that tech makes it handy, I see so much that can go wrong.
You just wouldn't understand
Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed this last video on updating the planter. Was extremely interesting. Thanks Zach. Iowa farm boy from years ago.
Really appreciated you film so much of this type of contend !
The level of depression of the kids having to go back to school, is … depressing and resonates back to my youth 🥵🥵🥵🥵
Same here.
Same way I feel everyday I go to work. LOL!
I thought they were homeschooling permanently ):
As a kid in hs right now. Kids health is not doing good at all, so many dropping out and suffering
@@markmcculfor6113 I thought they were homeschooling to. I would home school, because just wearing that mask all day is dangerous. I notice worker's who have the mask on, and their skin is very red in the face and neck, as well as their arm's. Breathing the bacteria from your mouth is causing strep throat, my sister teaches second grade, and they shut the school down for two weeks. There are several disease's people are having just from the mask. The scary part is this vaccine that has not been tested on animal's, and is not FDA approved, and if you have any health problems, you can't see. The rna vax is not like the other yearly flu shots, and it could take a couple years for any health issues arise. I have MS, and got it after the hep b vax, about 3 year's later
I was misdiagnosed for another 7 years. I joined several MS groups, and found out that many people like me got the MS after the hep b vaccine. I started researching the shots and found out they have Mercury, PEG, aluminum, aborted fetal cells, and cause many autoimmune disease's. Go to the CDC website, and also a you tube channel called herbsplusbeadsworks, has a lot of good information on this. God bless, and be safe.
That weather looks like the complete opposite where I live (75 degrees and sunny)
Uncle Ray says hi. Have good and safe start to your new season. God bless to your whole family
It looked like it went really good Zack that's one way of using an old planter and so to speak revamping it with all the newest upgrades good job thumbs up 👍
Have a nice day and stay safe out here!!
That is one of the things I like most about Deere the fact that they are all for working together with the customers! I’m not a farmer but have a fleet of Deere construction equipment and the Deere guys know my kids also from working in our shop it’s hard to beat great relationships thanks for the video MF!
Actually that’s not correct. They refuse to share how to fix latest stuff. You must go thru them, or buy foreign made testing equipment. With JD shop rates. $$$$
Larry you must not have the right dealer because that’s not how it works in our shop with our dealer
I feel like we need a Jim cam every once in a while
I just got done watching all of your videos like all of them, I can’t wait to see some harvesting
Anna was oddly interested! Looking forward to seeing the planter in action.
9:22 Anna's sad because there's all those strangers there that she's been told she can't eat. :(
I am just an amazement of all the hydraulics and electronics! As an aircraft maintainer and mechanic of 38 years this is an aircraft that never leaves the ground, simply amazing!
Amazing....the new technology today. Can’t wait to see it in the field
Yourself and Jim had the same lean going on in those rolling shop chairs, must have been going around a corner lol 9:00 min mark. Take care and be safe Johnson crew.
I would love to know the cost of 3 days of all these John Deere guys, but great job Zach
That is an awesome setup. Now just waiting on the video when you get to use it. Hoping for a good season for everyone.
Call me crazy, but after watching "umpteen" videos from Zach, Cole, Nick and Legarms, I still find it ASTOUNDING the amount of "behind the scenes" work that farmers do. As a non-farmer, it's so easy to think, well, they just go plant and then go harvest. But the amount of maintenance and upgrades, and other general work that gets done is absolutely amazing. A HUGE hats off to these guys, who do this day in and day out, to bring people all over the world their products. I feel proud of these guys!!!
the auto focus is so quick, i think it's ahead in time
It's so frustrating!!
Go back to the old camera!
@@jakesauter4358 it's the same exact model. All the old ones are broken and the news ones must be different somehow
Oh that's lame! They must have made their auto focus program "better".
@@MillennialFarmer what about getting a DJI osmo action. It's a bit like the GoPro but better
The 66 people that thumbs down the video are either keyboard Warriors or dislike farmers. Why waste your time morons. Zach and his family are just a small group of people that keep us fed in order to buy groceries and gasoline for our cats. Love farmers. Wish I had the ability to purchase the land and equipment to do what your family does Zach.
Thanks for a very interesting video. Thanks for filming the process to update the planter. Takes a lot of work but is surely worth it. All of you put in the hours to get it done. Tons of connections and wires and hoses to make it work. Very interesting Zach. Will want to see it work in the field. Quite an upgrade project. Like a new planter now. Looking forward to seeing it all work. Thanks Zach. Iowa farm boy from years ago.
Yesterday here In oklahoma was a beautiful day. 78 degrees now it's 29 degrees and lots of wind. Yeah. Love oklahoma.
9:29 Ah the old in between the eyes rub. Puppers like that.
11:52 They always get to sleep in the coolest spots.
Sweet, those roller wheels for the planter have sweet rims. Also, is it ok to ask how long Jim has been working for you guys? He seems like a really cool guy and like he's known you guys for some time.
I love plantar videos. I think the technology is amazing.
Wow! It was cool to see this Performance Upgrade Kit get installed
lmao "don't worry I won't put it on the internet" "yeah right"
Seems to be the going thing this year, everyone doing it
@Stayten H wtf? And I care because?
@Stayten H Jehovah witness lookin ahh
@Stayten H yep, I can see a block coming soon. You need help lol
@Stayten H Ok, i know the bible and you should stop. Please, its a joke damn.
@@kevins5092 lmfao
That's so cool how you can go that fast with your planter!
"Looks like a meeting of the minds.....and Jim too" .... haha. Poor Jim. Such abuse he takes!! Oh, and I got my Millennial Farmer hat and T-shirts today. GREAT QUALITY. Keep up the great (well, pretty good) videos. Blessings to you on the farm.
Dude that planter even looks fast. Curious how much percentage wise you think you saved by doing this upgrade to selling the planter and just buying a new one or a slightly used one.
Be careful, someone got a clip of you actually doing something.
My Grandfather had a hobby farm so big new equipment wasn’t an option. I will never forget riding on the back of the grain planter which had steel wheels. You had to be on the back continuously watching to make sure every row was sowing. It was extremely dusty at times but it worked extremely well. I’m glad we only sowed a small amount of acres lol. He also used a wooden separator that stayed in place even tho combines were readily available, he loved doing it old school. I’m glad I got to experience all the old equipment in use.
Zach, you’re a great guy and all, but when I get older, I want to be like Jim! He’s awesome 👍
Whats happening at the grain dryer. Saw the crain in the background
"crain"?
@@paulcopeland9035 kraynn
I’m curious as to how much of a saving it was to upgrade the old machine instead of buying a new one.
Adam
Spending maybe $30,000 vs over $100,000 for a new planter. Trade in is ridiculously low
Everyone needs a Jim in their life.
Thank you for including both the doggos in this video, especially Didge!
What's a doggo?
