    Monsters Inc? More like, Monsters StINK! Am I right?
    ...Wow that was almost worse than this movie itself.
    Pixar's Monsters University is a pretty disappointing film, but it has an idea deep inside of it. Here we find the reason(s) why this movie wasn't as satisfying as it could had been.
    Music (In Order of Appearance):
    Monsters, Inc. - Boo's Going Home (Violin & Piano Cover) - Esteban Hernández
    Wii Shop Channel Music
    Fez - Flow
    Athletic Theme - Yoshi's Island
    Pokémon Black and White: Castelia City (lo-fi remix) - SuperiorSnivys
    1-800-273-8255 (Piano Cover) - Costantino Carrara
    Fez - Love
    Monsters Inc Theme Remix - Haze

    Inspired by the Love of Jesus Christ
    Verse of the Day (as related to the topic of this video):
    "Just as each one of you has received a special gift [a spiritual talent, an ability graciously given by God], employ it in serving one another as [is appropriate for] good stewards of God’s multi-faceted grace [faithfully using the diverse, varied gifts and abilities granted to Christians by God’s unmerited favor]." - 1 Peter 4:10 (AMP)
    A movie I highly recommend: The Gospel According to Matthew (starring a very animated and engaging acting performance by Bruce Marchiano, who plays Jesus). This is a word-for-word adaptation that has a unique take on the body language and charisma of Jesus, and also makes it easier to understand and quicker to read the story. I am hopeful that this movie gives you peace, love, hope, security, comfort, and answers, as it did me, and continues to do to this day. God bless you.

    No wonder they did a prequel. A sequel to Monsters inc. wouldn't work. Kids and monsters get along and there is no conflict. There is no unfinished buisness. I love this movie but not quite as much as the original its still alot of fun.

    • @icecreamhero2375
      @icecreamhero2375 4 роки тому +150

      @George Henry But I am just thinking logically in terms of the story. Without conflict there is no point. The point of monsters is to scare children in closets its a premise everyone can relate to. Now monsters and kids get along there is no point any more. If they did a sequel the whole movie would be monsters telling purposely corny jokes. No body wants to see that because it is boring.

    • @icecreamhero2375
      @icecreamhero2375 4 роки тому +114

      @George Henry I actually did think of something. But those are pretty terrible. Monster hunting really? It sounds too dark and nobody learns a lesson and its a maddive tone jump from the first one. Its supposed to be wacky and silly. The whole joke is they are monsters but monsters are like normal people and its just a job. The second one is a rehash. What if they hurt the kids( They already addressed that with the scream sucker.) Another boss that wants to scare the old fashioned way how would Mike and Scully resolve that. Laughs are 10 times more powerful so there is no reason to switch back. And it lacks heart. Pixar movies are supposed to be cute and heartwarming.

    • @icecreamhero2375
      @icecreamhero2375 4 роки тому +61

      @George Henry Also they sound way too fanfiction esque. Rather than something Pixar would actually make.

    • @icecreamhero2375
      @icecreamhero2375 4 роки тому +58

      @George Henry Here is what I thought of. Its an 8 minute short because this can't carry a whole movie. Boo grew up and had her own kid. Boo is currently a professional stand up comedian. Her daughter is very serious, has a dry sense of humor, and nothing makes her laugh. She is 8 years old. Mike and Scully come out of the closset and try everything to make her laugh but nothing works at all. At the end a horror movie comes on or something and scarry stuff makes her laugh. The end. It's cute, it sounds like something they would actually, make it would be nostalgic for old fans and it would be funny.

    • @icecreamhero2375
      @icecreamhero2375 4 роки тому +39

      @George Henry 1.) It sounds pretty on brand to me. Its kinda like Toy Story 3 where we got to see Andy grow up. 2) All the pixar shorts have a simple plot with lots of phyiscal comedy 3) They have made tons of Toy Story and Cars Shorts how is this any different they even made 1 monsters inc short, 4) By fanfiction esque I meant it has all of the stupid fanfiction cliches like being over the top and gritty. 5. ) It builds on what is there and anwsers un anwsered questions 6.) Monsters Inc is getting a series all about new monsters who make kids laugh. 7.) You used quotation marks wrong, 8.) It was very faithful to the original and doesn't contradict anything 9.) It anwsers unanwsered questions what is Boo like when she is grown up 10. ) I made her a stand up comediam because it would be kinda cool if she had something in comon with the monsters. 11.) Since there is eccentually world peace why force an unnesicarry conflict 12.) At least mine had a proper begining middle and end. 13.) It is cute has heart like Pixar movies usually do

  • @TheEvan128
    @TheEvan128 4 роки тому +389

    I respect your opinions. But, dogging on a prequel for being too predictable is like not allowing sequels to exist because they make the first installments too predictable. Given the near perfect ending of Inc, Pixar honestly made the right call of going back, instead of forward with this world. Not only that, this movie has tons of lessons and messages that really define Pixar movies. "Work hard" "be a team player" "accept what makes you happy/what you're good at and embrace it".
    This movie is given too much hate when in reality it doesn't fall short in creating a good story that brodens this monster universe.

      I actually thought this movie did a good job being unpredictable considering we all knew what was going to happen in the end. They won the scare games, but then it turned out they cheated and still got kicked out, but then still found a way to work at monsters inc. like they couldn’t have gotten to the predictable conclusion in a less predictable way

    • @ruby_waffle
      @ruby_waffle 4 роки тому +2

      A prequel will be predictable the first time you watch it. Every movie is "predictable" if you've seen it before, because you already know what happens. This argument is invalid.

      @jyoats7959 4 роки тому +2

      I do think going back was the right call because there wasn’t much you can do going forward. This movie had a good message and it had a little bit of heart, so that’s really all that matters. Bro, im not hating, but you need to understand the point of this film.... Monsters. Inc, was made to show people that sometimes, doing the right thing is more important than following what you believe or what you were led to believe. Monsters University taught all of us a bunch of lessons, because that is what in my opinion, Pixar does best, it teaches. First, it taught us that in order to get what you want you have to work hard and study, you can't just rely on talent and skill alone, because studying and learning helps those talents to grow and evolve so that you can become better than who you were before. Also we must never forget that you can never be the best unless you keep an open mind and accept help from others. Like how Sully thought that since he was a "Sullivan" that meant that by logic he is the scariest monster there is, that all that training and knowledge wouldn't mean much to the son of a monster legend, but when he reached is low with Mike and accepted that sometimes its okay to say you don't know it all, and that you can't be BORN a legend, you need to work to better yourself and strive to BECOME one. Finally, it taught us that we can do anything, no matter who we are, and no matter what others tell us. That we all have things that make us special, and that those things can be used to help us get to where we want to go, it just takes a little imagination and hardwork. WE know who we are and that we can make it anywhere with help from others.. This movie was good to give us a bit of background on the characters as well as to how everything grew to be the stuff we saw in the first film. Pixar did good man, you believe what you believe but you should know that this movie, even if it was out of order with the other, was genius, and Pixar made a good call making it.

    "Boo is what made these characters shine" Yeah, but consider that perhaps the people at Pixar thought the original ending was perfect. Don't have to play to fanboy fantasies by showing boo older, or at all. Because if they made a sequel that had Boo, that's all it'd be. Fan service. I liked Monsters University. It's fine if you didn't, but I just think the argument about Boo is really only because people want to see what happens as she gets older, even if that's not what the creative team wants

      @@IcyDiamond Meh. Honestly I don't even know anymore, or at least can't explain it as well as I used to when I first watched it. I guess I feel like college doesn't really practically train you for a career which I feel is sort of the same here, although it's different in this case since Mike is his own reason he can't be a scarer. Most accurate comparison is getting to college doesn't guarantee anything, which in the movie is a little shocking that there was never some sort of practical test to get into the scare school. I feel like people go to college and then realize what they originally wanted is not what they end up doing, whether for preference or personal abilities. I relate with this. Mike's story is a well-written one; has a childhood dream that he sacrifices everything for, makes it to the school he's wanted to go to, does everything in his power to win the competition, then gets shattered when he finds out he can't actually scare at all, at least, not with this physique. He builds himself up from that.
      Biggest problem with the movie I agree with is how pretty much everything revolves around scaring which, established in the first movie, goes to the gutter.

      I was watching an analysis video yesterday based on this movie that talked about some deeper meanings in the movie that I agree with. This video discussed how Mike is representing people with autism, special needs, or disabilities. While they may try their best and work their ass off at the end of the day they r not able to do the same things as other people. I think this makes the movies message feel a lot more important and because of this the dean stating at the end that she will give students she didn't expect much from a chance to prove her wrong becomes much more powerful. This movie has messages that r very real and teaches people that while not everyone can do everything, that is ok and there is more paths to success than just one. While it is far from a perfect movie, I think its a nice story with a lot of deeper meanings and therefore it deserves a lot more credit than it gets.

    I have to disagree with your point about Mike and Sullivan's friendship getting stronger because of Boo, I like to see their disagreement as just one little fight in their time as friends all these years. The first time I watched Monsters Inc, I immediately suspected Mike to be a fake friend only riding on Sullivan's coattails (A surprise villain of some sorts). But then I noticed that never once has Mike betrayed Sullivan in the film, even ONCE. Like remember that scene where a Scarer and his handler was greeted by Mike and they show off their so-called "Friendship", the handler even talks about how good buddies they were, but when he found the sock on his scarer's back, he immediately reports him without hesitation.
    Mike never reports Sullivan to others, opting instead to help Sullivan in any way he could.

It show that people can’t just fix their disabilities. It show mike really wanted his dream but later on he understood that he can’t get that . Monsters Univ. is about character development. Being a prequel, it's not about driving a story to an interesting revealing conclusion that changes our perspective of the firt movie. Rather, it is about what drives this characters, how how they became the characters we knew in the first movie. In particular, how these characters suverted other people's and their own expectations.
    Sullivan was skilled, nayurally gifted, and charismatic character, but effortless, reckless and unmotivated. Mike lacks the natural tallent, but is obstinate, resolute and highly motivated.
    While Sullivan wants to simply meet expectations without having to work very hard for it, Mike is driven by the desire of challenging other's expectations about him.
    Both characters complementary each other's strengths and weaknesses, and in the end they both become better versions of themselves by learning from each other. Mike realises that he lacks the natural tallent to be a scarer, but understands that his best talent is being knowledgable and motivated, and his real talent is to bring out the best in other monsters. Sullivan realises that natural talent and fame name is not enough, and that real talent comes from hard work and teamwork.
    Both character arcs complement each other, and sets them up for the original movie, as we now have an insight into their personality, and how their personal past and history shaped them.
    They both become better versions of themselves by learning and recognizing the best in each other.
    Mike becomes less idealistic and more grounded, and cinic, while Sullivan becomes more selfless, idealistic, and optimistic

That is brilliant because of his family, opportunity, privilege, or just raw simple talent . I actually liked this movie. what you pointed out did kinda suck. However, it was the story of a disabled kid learning to accept his disability and we saw everyone through Mike's eye. The Dean? her first words were discouraging to Mike, so that's all Mike ever saw of her from that moment on, because everyone who said he couldn't all his life was not interested in his success. The jock? he was an instigator that wanted to make fun of the new students, old bullies had it out for mike so that's all mike ever saw. In the beginning of the film Sully is portrayed as over confident and full of himself, and in reality he might have been the first day. But its obvious that Mike slowly saw him for who he was, a "gifted kid" afraid of losing that title but was spoon fed everything he needed till then and was never taught how to actually succeed. At every turn Mike and sully fail. they have ONE actual success in the whole movie, and that's scaring the adults. Mike never even gets the job he wanted. He trains scarers. Which he is happy with because he learned that yeah, he isn't scary, but he knows the most about scaring, enough to scare adults with just a little help from sully. I dislike a lot about this movie, but I got to see myself represented on the big screen in a way I felt heard.

You can train effortlessly, but if you do not have talent or are not born with what it needs, you will never be the best on it, on the other hand if you are talented, but you are lazy and do not exploit that talent, you will not get far as well. But the movie goes beyond that to break the cliché of most movies like this and tell us that it is okay not to achieve your ultimate fantastic goal, life can still be good, and you can still be fulfilled by doing what you like, even if you do not get as far as you had envisioned in your childish fantasies.

    The idea that Mike is not scary. Admit it, if you, child or adult, saw a 4ft tall 1-eyed gremlin at the foot of your bed, jump up and scream at you, you'd freak out. It doesn't matter how desensitised you might be to horror movies, creepypastas or any scary fiction. You are faced with a literal MONSTER and it is now in your room, dead of night, screaming at you. I think what made me really appreciate it later on was how realistic the overall plotline is. Mike Wasowski wants to be a scarer but nobody thinks he’s scary enough so he goes out of his way to prove to everyone that they’re wrong. But he isn’t scary on his own, which is shown towards the end, but he is able to overcome this flaw and work around it with his relationship to Sully and his intellect. It could’ve went “and Mike worked really hard and became the scariest monster around,” but that would be lazy and unrealistic writing. The message it conveyed was unique, which made me really appreciate it.

    To me, It's not a bad movie at all, it's actually pretty decent! Remember after all, this is supposed to be a PREQUEL! Not a sequel! I think it showed great representation of how Monsters Inc. was all started and how Sully and Mike became friends! I found Monsters University quite interesting tbh! I loved it when I was a kid! Yes, Monsters Inc. Is better but that's the point! A sequel is supposed to be better! Because Monsters Inc. Is technically the sequel, grant it, it was made earlier but it's still a sequel! I feel like this movie gets a little unfair treatment, I agree with almost all the points you make but I feel like Monsters U is relatable and i know it's important that worthington and heartscrabble have motives but maybe that's not important. We don't always know everything about those who condensed us. I think the message and it's delivery is the most important part and I think it did well on both of those parts. I also think it's unfair to say the plot is uninteresting and I already know what's going to happen. That's the POINT of a prequel, to explain how the characters we love so much got where they were. And I know you make the point of "it's just a scare competition" the point is not that it's a scare competition, the point is that Oozma Kappa is defying all odds and working hard to succeed when everyone has no faith in them. I still really like this movie and I think I've actually rewatched it more than inc. bur I think it's all up to interpretation and preference.

But with hindsight and by revisiting its 2 films dozens of times, Monster University made me understand important things that Monster Inc could not have passed on to me, even at the level of the approach to its universes which connects its 2 films, Monster University does it in a smarter way in the atmosphere it offers and more realistic in the message it wants to convey. Monster Inc is also very good but it's more the nostalgic side that speaks for it because Monster University is really a misunderstood centerpiece.

    Well, even if i disagree with you, that's still your opinion, and i respect your opinion. But for someone like me who live in a 3rd world country, and didn't finished college, this movie speaks to me on a spiritual and emotional level.
    I've seen some of my schoolmates in highschool, that are now accomplished engineers, teachers, nurses and on to other careers. While here i am at 30 years old, wondering if i'll ever get a chance to chase my childhood dream of becoming a paleontologist; heck i didn't even know people who loves dinosaurs with degrees are called paleontologist or a job called paleontology even existed back then, all i know is i love dinosaurs and want to live a life involving dinosaurs.
    And even tho we're poor, but ever since i was a kid i've been collecting toys, books and other stuffs that involve dinosaurs. But badly none of my country's university offer that course, and even if there is, i'm still too broke to study for it.
    It may not be the best for you, but that doesn't mean it's the same for everyone. The way my perspective see it, "is that you cannot get everything you want, even if you give it all you got", like how mike was portrayed here is an eye opener for me, and just settle and be happy at what you have, because you don't know people just like sully who we think can get everything at arms reach also suffer inner demons they don't want others to see, because if others see their weaknesses, they might think it degrades them.
    So in my opinion, this is the best pixar movie.

      I feel this is specially true, if you read it as kinda of a metaphor for disabilities... as those can make some dreams LITERALLY PHISICALLY IMPOSSIBLE for a person to achieve. I mean, Mike wants to be a scarer, but he can't, at least not in the way Sullivan is, because he doesn't have a scary body. He studies, and tries hard, but he can't scare children.... at least not by himself, what he CAN DO however is combine his mind and knowledge about scaring children with the body of a scary monster like Sullivan, and ends up pulling the biggest scare anyone has ever seen, by scaring adults... not just any adult... but COPS!
      Also I love to think Mike could be a hell of an Horror movie/book writter if he wanted too, and he's also a great comedian. He wasn't able to achieve his original dream, at least not in the way he originally wanted, but he was still successful in the end in his own way.

    I think the best part of the prequel is the context it gives to Mike Wazowski's mentoring of Sulley. Before watching the prequel, his mentoring could easily be written off as overconfident, and overestimating his knowledge in a discipline that he doesn't directly work in (especially as he's protrayed as the kind of character who has an inflated sense of worth).
    The prequel however shows that he actually has an almost unparalleled understanding of the art of scaring, and that he only lacks on the practical application, and that his mentoring is a vital component of Sulley's success.

He talks about how we know Mike and Sully will be friends again after fighting but the whole point of the movie was to explain how they became good friends in the first place, it was about the journey not the end result + it was most likely made with younger audiences who had never seen the original before so they wouldn't have a clue to how this film would've ended regardless.
      There's honestly so much wrong with this video
