- In the Last Frontier our short growing season requires months of preparation, from starting seeds indoors to cultivating healthy soil to nourish the plants. We plant an entire row of tomatoes in the high tunnel and carry out necessary tasks to ensure we have a successful garden.
We appreciate you tagging along for our Alaskan adventure 😀

Whenever I watch your videos, I think about all those years I wasted being ashamed and hateful of my life ,how I didnt really live, I was always in constant fear of running into someone I knew( because of a certain image I had portrayed) . I think about how I could have been happier and enjoyed those life experiences, now I know I'll never have those moments back.🌿
The day I came across one of your videos was the day i made a decision to be happy, to be free and to enjoy every moment that I am blessed with, that was when I also decided to share my story, the life I once hid from the world as to step toward self acceptance. 🌱
You helped me make that decision, you made me appreciate a rural life I once hated.
Please don't ever stop making videos , you are an inspiration to so many people and the world is blessed simply because you both are in it. 🌈
P. S :To anyone reading this, enjoy every moment that you get to witness because you may never have them back and never be afraid of truly being yourself, who cares what anyone else thinks or says. 💚☀️
This.... !!. Sounds bad but makes me feel better knowing someone feels the same way. I still like to stay away from people due to my image but it's getting better
nature has always the medication for everything
@@ashlynnelson2595 and it will just keep getting better!! Be happy!! Hopefully this last year we've all learned how quickly things change....so...be happy!
Subbed up 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Just found your channel & I’m going to subscribe!
You dont get enough love for the value of your editing and production. Even I, who knows nothing about cameras and whatnot, can tell alot of time and love goes into your work. Good stuff!
The opening scenes are very beautiful💞
and Im diggn the music selections also
Agreed. Tasteful and well-considered presentation.
Absolutely beautiful job.

My family is from northern Russia and every spring my grandparents and parents put a loads of snow in their high tunnels. It works perfectly well 👍
it makes sense. the snow is still there....and you dont need to water the dry soil
U
Yes - that slow melt saturates the deep soil so it doesn't just evaporate off the top inch.
Where do you keep all those seedlings in your tiny house.?
That’s awesome!!! I guess the weather there would be similar to Canada/Alaska. That’s why we can grow most Russian plants here 😁
The dogs do an essential job of moral support to their people I see...🐕
Most definitely there’s no bond like the bond with your dogs, there’s no better love than unconditional love which your pets give you! My puppy is my daughter I wouldn’t know what too do without her!!
Eric's close up "Hello!" Cracked me up 😂
I love everything! Gardening, cooking, coffee, fishing, building.....you name it!! All of it!!!
I wish you both continued success. Thanks for taking the time to edit and upload all these episodes of your lives. It's about the best of what UA-cam can be and you avoid the superfluous music and endless commercial plugs for sponsors.
3:05 There is Arielle standing in the manure pile again. If you are ever in Willow and want to meet Arielle, just dump a pile of manure on the side of the road and wait. Arielle will sniff it out and give it a looks see. :)
Right beside me, I love the stuff.
ROFL 🤣 A true gardener 🤪❣️
How do y’all keep your dogs 🐕 from eating the dirt? Asking for a friend!
Rhubarb grows like a weed over winter. I'm from Michigan and our winters are bitter sometimes, but grandmas' Rhubard always came back better than ever. It of course helped that they were planted over the old outhouse! Grow on!
Here in New Zealand,.rhubarb grows in everyone's gardens haha.
I cook my stalks with orange peel and a teabag.
Tastes so good. If you're not a fan of rhubarb, are you aware you can't eat the leaves? Although asking... you're a competent grower.. so im sure you are
I love watching you guys working together. A couple who are working toward the same goals can accomplish anything. 👍
The bravest Man I ever knew. Stands in a puddle of water and grabs ahold electric fence, "It's test time. Yeeooow. Okay, that works."
And Pioneer Arielle saying matter of fact: "Of course the earth is still frozen."
Two wonderful people. Kind of makes me want to be a 'nicer' person. Thank you folks!
I bet it really is hard to drag the camera everywhere you go and set it up and talk to is especially when you guys work so hard as soon as these longer days hit, but we so appreciate it and thank you for bringing us along!
I've always heard that the way to a woman's heart was with worms. But I didn't believe it until now
It's because worms burrow and are small enough to go between ribs.
You're living the life that my husband and I wanted to live 20 years ago. We absolutely love your channel!
My parents have rhubarb in their back yard in Anchorage that they have to cut back every year to keep it from taking over, so you shouldn't have any problems overwintering.
If y’all get too busy, we’ll be quite happy with just a time lapse so you don’t have to spend all that time for editing and stuff. I just love watching you build out your property. Very satisfying while I save up for mine. ❤️
The clip of the garden defrosting was so exciting
First off, top notch filming and editing. Second, realizing that you had all these starts inside your cabin...wow...and its a small cabin...impressive guys!!
Can't wait to see the Orchard come to life this summer!! It is crazy to see how much the garden and high tunnel have evolved over these few years, just amazing! Thank you for taking the time to create entertaining yet informative videos, cheers!
every time my feed updates and i see Simple Living Alaska has a new upload, i get a smile on my face.
to me it's fascinating watching you two work together. now i know a lot of stuff goes on behind the scenes but still it is so wonderful to see two people working so well together. It's something i want to strive for with my husband once we get our own homestead. thank you so much for these uplifting videos!!!!
The cat rubbing up on Bandit's leg. 😍😍😍 They are so cute together.
@@toddamcewen3774 I'll never forget Hunter, the beautiful soul, keeping watch of in tree orchard now. 💖
And Bo is such a cute old man. I can't help but 'awwww' when I see him.
They are all SO CUTE. I'm so glad they feature their pets.
Build your compost pile so you can use a tiller between logs, an easy turn every 30 days. Bob
45-46 minute video. Not even posted for ten minutes and already 71 likes, me being one of them. Talk about faithful followers. I swear that rooster knows when you are filming ;-P Love you all. God Bless.
This is one of the channels that I always like the video before I watch I love everything that they do
Who votes for 2 videos a week? !!!
Ones just not cutting it... you guys are amazing 🤩 love your content!!!
I thought they did upload twice a week. Lol like every 4 days or so. I bet the next vid will be posted by Friday. Honestly I don't know how they have the time to get all the work done on top of video editing and uploading.
They just need their own T.V show.
@@Hannahsunshine- oh really, I didn’t realise
Yessss they just posted. I win the 'bet' I placed with myself lol
@@Hannahsunshine- haha 😂 yes you were right!!
I planted rhubarb last year and it died off in a cold snap we got after planting. Lo and behold it is back this year.
Love how Bandit tests the ice before proceeding ❣️ and Ariels slap on the butt 🤪. Eric, I felt the jolt testing the wire 😖.
I can’t believe how many seeds you start in your house 😮. Truly amazing for tight quarters 🤩 Love watching you two grow & expand 👍
Living my dream thru you 🥰
The crane! I love to hear them call. Where I am, it means winter is coming when they arrive. I keep a weather thermometer (like the kind with an indoor display and outdoor sensor) in my greenhouse to let me know what the 24 hour temp range was.
I love this 2 and how much they love nature .
Arielle and Eric , just a note to say thank you for letting us live vicariously through your videos ! Makes this crazy new world better for a little while , and on a Monday to boot !
P.S. am I the only one who is watching the sticker on the new shovel ? That is some kind of tough material !
You should store a few 55 gallon barrrls with water in the high tunnel as they work as a heat sink.
My favorite channel by far. You both live such beautiful lives.
Is it just me? Lol I just realized that they both have the same name as The Little Mermaid Ariel and Prince Eric, well Arielle spells her name differently but still, coincidence!
Should have named the dogs and cat “Sebastian,” “Scuttle,” and “Flounder”
@@ap8409 still can
Yes, I thought the same thing!
It has been mentioned a couple of times in other videos comment section ahah
@@rodrigogoncalves2626 thank you sooo much for informing
Let's all get together and sent this man an amp tester...😉
😆😆😆 My husband & I laughed so hard at that! Brought back too many memories of testing electric fences. When you hear the snap you know it was a good one! Sorry Eric, but it was funny
No!!!! The shock is my favorite part of starting the garden every year!! Haha! 😜
Lmao I was so curious when he said test it out,, I thought he was gonna throw something on it or show us some cool trick to see how it works!😆
That intro was so wonderfully timed and dramatic. Cinematic masterpiece in itself.
Lavender Hidcote - Hid (rhymes with Lid)-coat.
Named for Hidcote Gardens here in the UK. Lovely place.
Kitty looking for her catnip in the high tunnel! She’s so cute.
Got to spend 45 minutes with two of my favorite people! Love you guys!
I always get a huge smile when I see you have posted. Love watching you two live your dream!
Your videos are not only enjoyable, they are also an education into slightly different lifestyles and have de-bunked a few things me, most notably Eric wearing a gun around. We don't do that in Canad, ever and when I first saw your videos, I was a little taken aback. I've learned that just because you like/wear guns, doesn't mean you're nuts etc. I feel very judgmental that I ever thought that!
Thank-you for your beautiful videos that showed me how to can, garden, and learn a bit more about American culture. x
I remember when I was living in Alaska, I saw some veggies grown in the Matanuska Valley; they were HUGE from all the sun light! Y'all are the highlight of my week! Sending you ☮️ Peace and love 💜 from Kimberly in South Dakota 💙❤️p.s. I was trying to remember and it was cabbages (huge) and fall squash!
Your video appearing on my feed has brightened up my day :)
You two are always busy. It's a lot of work to keep a garden healthy and productive. Thanks for sharing ! ♥️
I cant imagine growing in your climate! Seems like such a different world than here in North Carolina. It must take the greenest of thumbs
Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your day.
I really enjoy the way you both work together handling your numerous daily tasks. Videos seem to come easy for you guys as you just show your daily life. One day a companion for Pepper????
who/what is Pepper?

Love all the time lapse video! You guys have an amazing amount of garden planting happening. Can't wait to see how things do. I saw three Sandhill Cranes in MI yesterday.
Y’all are so inspiring, after I watch a few episodes I’m out in the yard or garden doing whatever needs doing or processing whatever is ready. ❤️❤️❤️Y’all- have loved so much from you kids.”
"Image having a ranch". Yeah that hit close to home. We bought a 22 acre ranch last November and my goal is to get is as self sustainable as I can... after I fix all the fencing!
Love watching everything you’ve started from seeds , come to life! Your garden will be beautiful this year… it is every year however , love watching these videos!!! 💗
I love seeing your garden getting going. In Southern WI we are still waiting for warmth too. Ready to plant by the end of this week. I hope!
I really like your channel. Its so nice not to have you stop mid-video and have a infomercial for green stuff or internet classes!
You guys are really hard working people ❤️⚒️💙🇹🇳🇹🇳🇹🇳🇹🇳🇹🇳
I love coming back to these videos of when you all got started and hop back to the videos of you two working in the garden. All that work paying off so well!
WOW! 😮 Alaska is much harder to grow crops in than so much of the world. 🏞️ You guys are champs!
Yes they have a shorter challenging growing season , but their garden yields extraordinary amount of crops..large bounty and large vegetables.. Enough to feed them for the year until harvest the following year..
They've been doing this a long time they got it down to a science
No, the season is short, but extra hours of sunlight grow plants much faster and larger than what you expect closer to the equator.
@@sharongypsydove6080 Yes this is why I love their videos! They are honestly beautiful people who share so much wisdom
I'm in Wisconsin and our growing season in the west central part of the state is comparable to this part of Alaska. Almost mid-may and we are still getting close to freezing over night.
@@katydidiy I live in Northern Alberta. same thing here. We have frost in the morning and a good chance of snow haha.
Love seeing all the garden videos. Garden and canning are my favorites!
You should get a kite spool for your poly wire when you put it away this season.
I was waiting for the snow tip coz I kept thinking "There's so much snow, just melt it in the tunnel!"
Me, too. I kept thinking "Why not put some of the snow in the high tunnel?" I know they don't want to handle snow anymore then they have to, but it would be for a good cause.
well spring is here and plants in . it must be lovely to have room back in the cabin for a little while!!!
You two are such a great team , you work in harmony together, I’m always so happy when you post a new video and I also rewatch your older videos, love everything you do ❤️
You guys have quickly become one of my favorite channels, simple yet entertaining.
Love from a Moroccan guy in the Netherlands
I can't wait for all your gardening videos..I truly hope this year is amazing for you ...much appreciation for your work and efforts...much love from Germany 🤗🤗😘
I so look forward to your videos! You both teach me a lot about this, that, and the other! Absolutely love your channel!
Everything about this video is great! From gardening tips to scenery and the crane, thanks :)
"Well, it works." I was laughing so hard my grandson asked me what was so funny. I told him you had to be a fan of SLA to understand!!! Going to show my husband this video to see if an electric fence will keep the deer out of his and my 85 year old mom's garden....I will tell her not to touch the wire...lol. Excellent video.
I recently learned the hard way our electric fence to keep the deer out was working. Ouch!
@@sunflowersue5112 How high is your fence? Do you run one line or two (like SLA)?
I have friends with a second “home” in the woods, they run an electric fence for deer, at least two lines possibly three I can’t recall. It absolutely works, but has given their dogs a little PTSD as well, just something to consider!
Gardening season woohoo!! ... My favorite color is dirt .. Your high tunnel is awesome, I like how you use every inch of space 😎👍🏼 .. keep up the great videos you do such a wonderful job on them .
Everything is looking wonderful. Looking forward to seeing how well the growing season goes for you this year. 🍀
Greetings from Chambersburg Pennsylvania.... Love watching You both...
That Crane was Beautiful ...
Also Love The Bees...
Keep Safe and Keep Plugging Along....
Long time subcriber from finland. 👍🏻. We have so much the same climate and nature. Almost the same. Respect your work out there🙏
Really, really enjoyed spending more time with you in today's video. Good stuff!!
Love this time of year and watching the green plants and the beautiful colors popping out. Thats alot of tomatoe plants!! My favorite color is Clear! So much prep work! Wow you guys are busy! So many people don't get or don't want the opportunity to just try planting new things... I love it. I try planting at least 2-4 new things every year!!
Your tomato plants are wonderful! It’s such a lot of work but the food is always worth it. I love your videos❤️
I finally finished planting all my starts this past weekend. I discovered last year that the brassica family does much better where I am in the fall so I will wait for those this year. I'm looking forward to watching your garden grow again this year!
Been watching since I was a sophomore. I'm about to graduate hs now and still can't get enough of your videos! Can't wait to see the garden set up in full bloom this year.
I absolutely love how you take the dogs on all your trips, even to go get the topsoil! You guys are awesome!!
Been waiting for work to be over to watch and I'm grateful I did after the day I had. This is just what I needed to refill my bucket. Thanks.
I saw Sandhill Cranes in my back yard this morning chirping away. The sound they make is really loud.
You guys have done a great job on your channel, definitely one of the best on utube.
I love how you guys do everything together ❤️You guys always have an awesome garden, I really enjoy watching the whole process. That crane is really cool! Love the sounds he makes❤️
I learn so much watching you two. It's amazing how much you guys put so much love into what you create. I love growing, and grow to much seeds at times as well. Thanks for posting your beautiful work. Hehe
Rhubarb pie was my Mom’s absolute favorite. Always reminds me of summer :-) Your starts look amazing. I think it’s going to be a banner garden year!
I loved it just stewed in sugar water with a tiny drizzle of cream. If you have Angelica stems, it’s good with that too.
The crane sound is very familiar! We live in Florida and they are all over our development and I love it. We have a family that comes around and the baby’s name is Henry! I have a small garden, but hope to have more space to grow more vegis!
Love how two lovable people take so much in stride, and do as much prep as they probably can. Hoping that you have a wonderful abundant growing season. From a loyal fan.👌😉
I get so excited when you all put out a new video! Love you guys and the animals!!!
With warm weather in the Philippines and with this present health problems, watching you guys makes me feel better and relax. Keep on vlogging please but keep safe always.
Stewed rhubarb and custard, apple and rhubarb crumble (and custard), rhubarb and onion chutney, rhubarb breakfast cake, rhubarb ginger chilli jam, rhubarb pie... 😋
Everything is looking great! Yes, for growers, the busy season is upon us!🤗💖
I love when the cranes hang out! We have some swans that always hang out all spring and summer too. Last year there was about 8 swans total on the lake, this year two have arrived so far. Spring time sounds in Alaska! I’m getting my hoop house going too, so glad for the smell after a spring rain. Still frozen spots here and there, but the hoop house is nice and thawed! Your orchard is looking awesome! My husband is the orchard one and did some grafting this spring to expand the varieties we have growing can’t wait for the blossoms! A few of our hens went broody too, but we already hatched some eggs last month lol.
We had rhubarb in our small garden when I was growing up, we used to go out and pick a stalk and eat it if we were hungry when playing outside. Our strain was really durable and overwintered for 15 years or so until we sold the place. At the end of the year we used to go to the Berry U-Pick and then Mom would make strawberry-rhubarb pie. The combination was amazing. Something I think you should do. You can actually use any sweet berry to offset the sourness of the raw rhubarb.
15 years 😯 danggg
Safety FYI don’t eat the leaves they contain small amounts of poison.
Strawberry rhubarb pie 😋
Not only awesome Gardner's but great videographer's!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing the start of your growing season. I hope you enjoy your rhubarb. We like it used in jam and upside down cake.
Ilove canning and now at 80 years of age I have slowed down so I love to watch the young ones go at it, good job.
You guys are awesome. Hard workers. Thanks for the videos.
Love all the detailed info.
I’m with Ariel, green and blue are my favorite colors. Strawberry rhubarb sauce over vanilla ice cream 🍨🤌🏼 you all do an amazing job with your gardens.
I needed a good laugh today lol. The electric fence was so funny. Enjoy your videos. If we were younger we would love to live there.
Just a little note for you as far as tomatoes are concerned, when I have drab tasting toms, I will add some baking soda to the soil to lower the pH level in the soil, makes the tomatoes sweeter. Also letting the roots run deeper by holding back on the water, the toms go into a water saving mode and thus making the tomatoes conserve the sugars. Harvest before watering, and the tomatoes will have a much better taste.
I give em apple juice 😂 has always worked for me tbh
Old trick is putting a dead fish under your tomato plants. Can confirm it works really well here in new england. Keep a head or tail after each trip in the freezer and add them a little deeper below the plants as you plant them. Try it with a pike head under one plant for fun.
Hi, you are right in being exited over the Lovage plant (here in Sweden it is called Libbsticka) - it is fantastic. It tastes like broth, and you only need like 3 leaves in a big pot of stew. The advantage is that you get the taste of broth without the salt. I have two of these in my garden. I use a glass (jam glass) with a lid, put the leaves in and put the glass in the freezer. This way their strong smell don`t get to the other foods in there. You can of course also dry them. I do the same with chives, only use the scissor to make them into small bits, freeze them and they melt and taste like fresh ones. Wishing you luck with this year`s harvest, and must say I have been very impressed with your garden these previous years! Greetings from Sweden, from me and Martin, my husband.
Enjoy watching your videos gives us a lot of information for gardening in a little bit of everything else fishing canning love it thank you
Bravo! Your teamwork is very inspiring! I look forward to seeing your garden grow.
