I want to embrace this but I own my own company & 3 times when my finances began to grow & I was enjoying some success the economy crashed & instead of chicken salad & I was left with chicken feathers. 3x bitten, I’m struggling with some success coming at me now & it almost makes me feel ill.
Scarcity mindset is a real thing and it’s holding you back from your full potential. If you grew up being told there wasn’t enough money, love, or opportunity to go around, you may have developed a scarcity mindset. Overcoming scarcity mindset is possible and it starts with understanding the root of your beliefs. Once you understand where your beliefs come from, you can start to change the way you think about yourself and the world around you.
What helped me was realizing that when I spend money, I'm not just buying things. I'm buying wisdom and experiences. I'm paying for EXP to level myself up. If I spend money on a hobby, activity or course, and it's not for me, I use that as a learning experience to get a sense of what interests I'm suited for, and which I'm not. You learn what you're apt for by trying new things. If I pay to travel and the trip wasn't that good, there are lessons I learn from that. If I buy clothes, some I'll end up wearing a lot, and some purchases I may later regret, but overall, I learn through trial and error what kinds of clothes work for me, and which don't. I bought a few clothes with poor fit, but that taught me a lesson for future clothes. If I'm going out to a social event, I'm not just paying for dinner or drinks, I'm paying to develop my social skills. If I go on a date, and it doesn't work out; I paid to gain dating experience.
I used to do this with my most flattering dresses, saving them for special occasions, ie. dates, parties, etc., and I hardly ever go out! Now I have recently started wearing them for normal life, instead of saving them for special occasions. And I am honestly enjoying the attention I get.
More than just a simple "You want your cookie and eat it too," the question becomes then "HOW do you overcome that mentality?" I don't feel as if this was demonstrated quite enough here so to elaborate, we are taught and conditioned to believe that all resources are limited, including emotional resources. Like love. The general consensus is those who are given unconditional love become happy and well balanced and go on to live their best lives while others with witholding parents think that life is difficult, people are mean, and that the universe is against them in general. These are very fatalistic thoughts which we're conditioned to believe is the norm which limit our ability to broaden ourselves. On a personal note, at some point in my late 20s, I just decided that I needed to look deeper into myself to understand why I perpetually felt that something bad was bound to happen or that failure was imminent. It's at this point I began to see that it wasn't other people or the universe holding me back, but it was my own self perceiving such things and me fulfilling it on an unconscious level like a self fulfilling prophecy. Most people are not out to get you, and in fact most people probably would like you if you give them half a chance to help you succeed. Additionally, god or the universe, whichever way you choose to believe, created you. You are part and parcel to that universal creation so why you would not be considered as worthy than others? Therefore, why should you think less of yourself? The most common reason why we fail is that we simply expect it. Oftentimes then we don't take the risks that would potentially make our life better assuming it's bound to fail at some point or another or do so but fail to give it 100% due to negative feelings. So, if we control our own self-filled prophecy, what is the point in accepting a prophecy of failure? Why not make it about success? Therefore, we create our universe through our thoughts and beliefs. Negative thoughts beget a negative reality and vice versa for positive thoughts. So if you start to believe that other people will help when you need it or well, simply not stand in your way, or that the universe would not seek to harm one of its own living, feeling creations, then the reality through positive thinking becomes limitless. The best thing you can do for yourself is to know that the universe will provide if you let it. People will love you if you let them. It's not the same as entitlement.
Thank you for this eye-opener 🙏 I’m well educated(2 Masters) and qualified but find myself living out a tiny life; always in fear of lack or loss. Saving so many things instead of enjoying them and see what happens. I’ve always been like this and deep down - I think a core belief is that I don’t deserve things. I fear poverty in an irrational way. In contrast my younger brother (very basic education) has always enjoyed the high life and spending when he didn’t always have the means to back this up. He is a multi- millionairee. I will change this now and give the vacuum a chance to fill the void with abundance of health, wealthy and joy! Thanks again for your succinct explanation which truly resonates with me. 🌈☘️💫
I have this mindset from childhood and my parents have it from their childhood, grandparents and etc. It’s not so easy to RElearn, but I am doing my best!
I like the description--it adds another dimension to my understanding of scarcity mentality. So far, I've only understood scarcity mentality in the context of something one might consider as scarce due to competition. Such as the attention/affection of a parent, being competed for by a sibling, the parents' job or friends, etc. But it could be anything that one might want to accumulate, control, or horde due to perceived scarcity, and I see now that competition might not be the perceived reason or threat causing scarcity. It might just be a perceived availability limit on something, such as a finite supply of gifted cookies.
This is really well explained!!! I used to do the same. Cookie, soap, perfume, clothes and more... Physical examples, but so true for everything in life.
I need this. I hadn't noticed that I was living with this kind of negative mentality. I've been diligently saving for a rainy day, but the rain never came. I've just turned 30, and I'm determined to reprogram my mindset. Thank you for sharing.
Great explanation. I don't have work therefore I have to be careful of my expenditure especially as Im also in debt. I have to live to a budget. I also love saving money - it makes me so happy so I will stint on groceries to enable saving money - when something happens like my dog is sick - Ive saved enough money so I dont have to worry about the vet bill. Ive been living in Survival mode my entire life and Im sick of how great I am at surviving. I don't want to survive, I want to trive.
Love the talk. I learned this all from Hebrews 11 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the convicción of things not seen. It’s not the universe. It’s God. There Can be no laws of life without order. Order is Design.
I love how you put this so simply. As a child, I always saved stickers and almost never used them, because I loved them and if I used them, they would be gone. Now I know better.
Nice. I have another way to look at it. It took me a long time to realize that my mind was deluded into a "static universe" trap, where I was seeking an ideal state. But the world is not static. It is flowing. That shift from seeking an ideal static state to just be content with efficient flow profoundly changed my life.
Nature abhors a vacuum. That struck home. Also, if I see spending my money as "eating and enjoying the cookie", it feels more like investing my money in a rich and gracious lifestyle.
Thank you so much for this! I am working on letting things go because I'm holding on for fear of missing something. I love how you gifted this information. ❤
Wow! I just came upon this podcast surfing through YouYube and listening to rainfall, so I could do some writing. Because I am finishing up my 31-Day rebirth fast (birth month) I am heightened to areas of my life that I am working on during this 18/6 intermittent fast. The scarcity mentality is one of those areas. The thing is for these last seven days of the fast I imagine myself being a rocket going into outer space. The thrusters are parts of me that will hinder me from getting into outer space so I have to allow them to fall off. I read that the capsule or the payload is an intimate space and that is what I want with God right now. I felt some scarcity anxiety today for spending less than 10 dollars at the thrift store for senior day at one place and military day at the other. I realized it was not about the money but that it seemed as if I was too cavalier about buying something at two places. Nothing I needed but things that caught my attention so I got them. I am not a cheap person I just like thrifting and finding unique things to wear. So, I actually was scarcity streessed about being free of less than 20.00 dollars after buying at two thrift stores. The bill that I have to pay next week has so many options to pay it but I was worried that I would not have enough to pay the bill. When I stand back I see that scarcity anxiety is myopic so when you have options but you do not allow your rational brain to be engaged we get stressed about not having enough. I am trying very hard to heal in this area. thanks, it was timely.
This was incredible. I am going to listen to this on a schedule. Ive often played with the idea of creating space for new things in life by letting old things go, but have never had someone articulate it so well. Thank you.
Let go of what I cling to, in fear. It conditions the universe to believe that I love fear and things of if. Instead, actively participate in the goodness of my life. It conditions the universe to believe that I'm supposed to be receiving goodness/abundance on a continuous basis. Try this, then come back with your results.
You just solved my biggest problem I always thought that if I lose this specific person I will be alone but as one person left the person and even better than previous person good mate❤👍
Although it is not lengthy, it most certainly drops a lot of thought bombs on your psyche. Thanks Doc. We do cling on to many things usually stemming from fear of or lack of X, Y and Z but if we really have the courage to integrate that into our conscious thinking, and God forbid we actually do it.. Who knows what kinds of beauty expects us at the other side of the mountain? Peace.
I've been down a path of enlightenment for a while now.. But the universe keeps sending me the same lessons, and its as if I'm not truly listening. I try.. But I can't seem to overcome my limited beliefs.. The first part about the cookie just pinged for me.. I always keep the nice things I buy myself...to afraid that they'll be gone.. Like the luxurious Skincare items, the indulgent snacks... And inevitably they go 'bad' I can't believe that I never put this together. That I was acting out of a scarcity mindset. Truly can't.. Thank you for putting it in such a way that is reaching me ❤
Yes,a brilliant analysis of the fear of letting go. I used to keep my ration of cakes, eggs etc lije you dud as a kid. Looking back it was silly all right. The world offers much pissiblilities in frienfship travels etc. One just have to have faith and strtch out. Fate plays an imp part. Whats meant tuo be will ne. Thabk You !
Wow, this resonates a lot! I used to do exactly the same thing with my Easter eggs and Christmas presents! I'm doing what I can to clear my scarcity mindset and trust more in life's flow of abundance - I've been handicapped for far too long!
Things don’t just “come into our lives”. We have to go out and get them. The problem I have with most proponents of the abundance mindset is that they give the impression that we can sit back and wait for prosperity to happen to us. And also that there is no need for consideration in how we deploy our resources. In your example, we could instead have chosen to trade the cookie with someone else for something we deemed of higher value. That’s how we bring abundance into our lives; it’s not about consuming what we have and expecting the Universe to fill the vacuum.
I think he's referring to the concept of once I acquired something I must protect it because I may never get this again. Like if bought a new laptop but I want to conserve it so I rarely use it so there's less chance of it being damaged etc. While the laptop is being preserved I am not using it to its fullest or at least enjoying it because I'm being very cautious. As opposed to using it to its fullest because when it does break down you can always get another whether through a warrenty, a gift, work etc.
Thank you so much for this video.. and to everyone in the comments, Iam struggling right now and im very unhappy because of a Scarcity mindset... I didnt realise until i watched this what it was.... this is Exactly what i needed to hear right now, so Thank you Thank you so much ❤️🙏..
I think it is better to stay grounded and realistic. Abundance mindset is very similar to empty positive affirmations. If you are poor, have few social connections etc. simply telling yourself that you are “abundant” is not enough and completely delusional.
your video format is perfect. every other person no matter how interesting after 4 hours of some one else's podcast i'm like bro i can't listen anymore but your videos have so much watchability i feel like literally compelled to keep watching them i'm like everything this guy says is either on point 100% w/what i think already or a total game changer. its so wild.
This is truly a lifehack. Making it clear to yourself that you only cling to things because you think they are scarce is a huge help with learning to deliberately let go of things. To me, this is what the famous proverb really means: "If you love something, let it go. If it comes back, it's yours. If it doesn't, it never was." And this can really also be applied to love itself. If you feel that the love in a relationship is running through your fingers like sand and you feel there's nothing decent you can do, don't cling. let it go freely, even if it will hurt. Either love will come back to you with that very same person, or you'll eventually find it from another person. There is such an abundance in this world that it is highly unlikely that one can only find ONE single person to be their perfect lover. This offer of perspective reached me at a very important moment, and I really appreciate you guys at PsycHacks for this.
Mine is money, compliments, any kind of praise, any attempt to claim I'm successful, etc.... I don't feel worthy, good enough, or not an imposter, and that the person is so wrong that it would be a lie to let them think as they say.... Money is absolutely necessary to live and survive.... But even if I get some, I find that I spend it give it away as quickly as possible, like it's not ok for me to have money or I don't deserve to have security and stability or something....
Thank you, this happens to me while spending money afraid it would finish if I use it to buy things that I need like foodstuff and saying that next time I will buy it and everyday use the money for buying petty things like snacks not knowing I am even losing it more convincing myself that I am managing it 😂 Now I have realized 😂
A very effective and easily relatable example of what is to many a very difficult concept. I thank you greatly for taking the time to share such a succinct and valuable lesson.
Yes scarcity mindset is real or at least that’s the frightening name we give to this mental action our brains take. I’m sure evolution put it there for a reason. It’s good to learn about how our brains work, and you can overcome these blocks but just remember to stay in balance. Do not be wasteful, we don’t have a universe full of possibilities but actually just a world full, a world that is full and overpopulated and filled with garbage. So again balance, there is no such thing as unlimited abundance, we have to preserve and conserve and not be wasteful. I see both sides and one wants to avoid being a hoarder, having your mindset unlocked to abundance can be good in so many ways, as long as it’s not used for bad… look around the real world it’s not that hard to see, be thankful for the people out there still trying to preserve earth from those people who have just taken the it’s abundant it’s there for me to take and I’ll take it all so no one else can take it… again I say look at where the fuck we are in todays world..
i’ve been struggling w money but now enough is enough i need to change that. i’m trying to get rid of my scarcity mindset and tap into abundance. i feel i was doing the same thing w my products i have at home what you describe in this video or even my car currently so a lot of km aren’t used up
Really great way to explain an abundance mindset. I cover this with my clients who are currently on the job hunt because focusing on the good in your life will open up more room for other good things!

Creating the space by letting go can be the hardest thing to do, but when we start doing so, we begin living in fullness.

I didnt realise until i watched this what it was.... this is Exactly what i needed to hear right now, so Thank you Thank you so much ❤️🙏..
hero! I know this, but it was great to hear. I love your analogies
I think it is better to stay grounded and realistic. Abundance mindset is very similar to empty positive affirmations.
If you are poor, have few social connections etc. simply telling yourself that you are “abundant” is not enough and completely delusional.
Beautiful, tears to my eyes (surprisingly). A gift because "nature abhors a vacuum."
Thank you for the reminder. I much prefer to keep this concept in front of me.
wow.... So simple story, but it blew up my mind.....
wow this video is helping me to overcome my mentality of lack ....very helpful ....thank you
This is excellent wisdom! Thank you for sharing. Blessings!!
thank you!
An excellent explanation of the scarcity consciousness. 👍
your video format is perfect. every other person no matter how interesting after 4 hours of some one else's podcast i'm like bro i can't listen anymore but your videos have so much watchability i feel like literally compelled to keep watching them i'm like everything this guy says is either on point 100% w/what i think already or a total game changer. its so wild.
Love and grace only comes through Jesus Christ, without Him your heading to the lake of fire.
This is truly a lifehack. Making it clear to yourself that you only cling to things because you think they are scarce is a huge help with learning to deliberately let go of things. To me, this is what the famous proverb really means: "If you love something, let it go. If it comes back, it's yours. If it doesn't, it never was."
And this can really also be applied to love itself.
Oh my goodness… this is really wonderful advice!
Receiving gifts is definitely one of your love languages lol.
But seriously, great info . Thank you !
Thanks for this awesome explanation. Have faith that you will be taken care of
Best explanation yet.
Thanks, Gods Bless You
Beautiful Video, it has a bit of the LAW OF ATTRACTION in it .... Nice, Soothing Motivating......
Wow this is powerful we have to eat the cookies from more to come into our lives that's powerful ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Eating cookies means to create more space for new cookies to come into our lives. I like that.
Thank you
Incredible video , I really appreciate it
Amazing simply amazing
Thank you, this happens to me while spending money afraid it would finish if I use it to buy things that I need like foodstuff and saying that next time I will buy it and everyday use the money for buying petty things like snacks not knowing I am even losing it more convincing myself that I am managing it 😂
Now I have realized 😂
Thank you for this wonderful insight
This is lovely
Short video bites, very useful. I did the same thing with candy, when the stash was discovered it was redistributed
Fighting this mindset right now… thank you for your knowledge
Just what I needed to hear
A very effective and easily relatable example of what is to many a very difficult concept.
I thank you greatly for taking the time to share such a succinct and valuable lesson.
thanks
I dud the same with lollies as a kid and now do with money. This rings true but one must find a balance between joy and responsibility.
Incredible , wonderful
So touching about the cookies, though...
Thank you for this!👏🏾
I just learned something important about myself. And I used to do the same thing with cookies
by giving up things you create space for other things. thanks
Well said. Thank you.
That's beautiful.. Thank you so much for helping me move past scarcity...
Thanks
Yes scarcity mindset is real or at least that’s the frightening name we give to this mental action our brains take. I’m sure evolution put it there for a reason. It’s good to learn about how our brains work, and you can overcome these blocks but just remember to stay in balance. Do not be wasteful, we don’t have a universe full of possibilities but actually just a world full, a world that is full and overpopulated and filled with garbage. So again balance, there is no such thing as unlimited abundance, we have to preserve and conserve and not be wasteful. I see both sides and one wants to avoid being a hoarder, having your mindset unlocked to abundance can be good in so many ways, as long as it’s not used for bad… look around the real world it’s not that hard to see, be thankful for the people out there still trying to preserve earth from those people who have just taken the it’s abundant it’s there for me to take and I’ll take it all so no one else can take it… again I say look at where the fuck we are in todays world..
i’ve been struggling w money but now enough is enough i need to change that. i’m trying to get rid of my scarcity mindset and tap into abundance. i feel i was doing the same thing w my products i have at home what you describe in this video or even my car currently so a lot of km aren’t used up
wise words

This is a good one. Thank you.
Really great way to explain an abundance mindset. I cover this with my clients who are currently on the job hunt because focusing on the good in your life will open up more room for other good things!
The cookie is doomed! Thanks for sharing your wise content.
