@tyranus1111 because cortana didn't choose 117 because he was the best at anything, he was just lucky and had the heart to never give up. She chose him for that dumb luck. She knew

@@jimmyshousevideosthat cutscene is ingrained into my 9 year old brain. Peak toxic masculinity (joking but you never know) and I'm ALL ABOUT IT. I lived and breathed John-117
I really liked that line too and I think many other people did too. It is a shame that 343 replaced it with “I need a weapon”, which didn’t fit as much in that scene.
That line always hits hard. At the time of the lore he was the last of his kind and he knew there will be a day where he is needed for a new fight or war. Which plays into the whole Easter egg in Destiny 1 where they find the sleeping soldier.
Your line from infinite that stuck to me like a plasma grenade... "We all fail. We all make mistakes. It's what makes us human." His lament at "failing Cortana" and admission to actually being human. Kinda got me in the feels. While I love the rejuvenated mini-me to Cortana, I certainly hope we aren't done with her yet. Hoping she some how is the other thing referred to by the Harbinger. Maybe her and what remained of Medicant Bias??
I don’t want cortana to come back. Her death was one of the things I liked about the campaign. I really hope she doesn’t return. It’s time to move on. It’s what humans do.
@@imposterimo946I do think there hinting at atriox coming back this time with almost his entire right arm or who knows half of his body completely mechanical. Would like to see round 2 with the master chief.
I swear to God the halo 4 ending when chief says “she said that to me once, about being a machine” is and always will be my favorite master chief line and scene.
No matter what, Steve Downes will always have that voice that gets me motivation for anything in my life. Thank you for your amazing voice acting for Master Chief, even though Chief doesn’t have many lines, you’ve always nailed it
I love that line it shows the growth of the character very nicely from a kid just doing what he's told to a man doing what he has to toosurvive hoping hes on the good side but also respecting that that's what the other side is doing aswe.l
Theres something about Chief that feels fatherly. Hes rough but kind. An beast and an angel. The feelings i got as a kid hearing his deep, strong, but calm voice will always stick with me.
As simple as it is, just hearing “034, Red Flag, Samuel.” Hearing those words sent shivers down my spine, almost 40 years later and Chief still hasn’t forgotten his best friend
my favorite line is "Our duty as soldiers is to protect humanity whatever the costs" I like it because it shows that even though it's an unwinable fight he's going to try is darndest
A lot of people need to modify their voice a bit to sound like their character or use a special mic, But Steve just sounds like 100% Master Chief on the spot. Very Impressive!
Omg I love chief’s voice you did a awesome job you’ve been part of my childhood for ever since combat evolved btw my favorite line is also she said that to me once about being a machine
"At the end he was just a soldier. Hoping he'd done the right thing." That one gives me feels and shivers all at the same time so much respect even for his fallen enemies and trying to understand there beliefs
omg he just sounds like master chief all the time. dear Steve Downes, you are everything that master chief is. Without your voice, halo wouldn't be where it is today.
I love the line we all fail we all make mistakes it's what makes us human It shows so much with so little little words it shows that John is only human under being a war hero a inspiration for the marines and losing one of his friends it just brilliantly written and come out at perfect time with everything going on
Love this guy. He genuinely knows and recalls the events from the game. I expected him to pick one of the sick one liners from Halo 2, but he went with Halo 4. Gotta respect it.
Thank god for Steve Downes. His voice will forever be one of the few true symbols of Strength, Hope, and Courage. Sierra 117.. You truly are. Our greatest hero. We seek to be ever worthy of the legacy you will have left behind, and strive to be ever grateful for the sacrifices made to build and preserve a place for us.
"I don't, but I want to." I love this line so much because it shows the depth of his pain but also his ever enduring flame of humanity. Sure he feels like he ultimately failed Cortana, however he still feels that betrayal none the less. However even with that baggage he knows that different choices can be made she is not destined to become what she became, but he still can't let his guard down.
“we all fail, we all make mistakes, It’s what makes us human” This one is just ingrained in my brain, every time something happens something goes wrong I always think of this line and it just makes me feel a bit better.
How can people not understand how impactful it is to hear Chief and ONLY hear him. Relating to a helmet, voice, and body language is better than relating to a face. Chief conveys INTROSPECTION so perfectly.
Finishing This Fight with the music always gave me goosebumps 😅 I met him last year for the first time and I couldn't believe I was speaking to the real Master Chief!! Such an awesome gentleman!
I love that in the beginning of infinite when chief is moving through space, he gives the utmost care when handling the dead marines. Really showed the humanity in him.
Thanks for all the years you’ve dedicated to this character Mr Downes. Hard to overstate how much my brother and I learned from the Chief over the years, so thanks for being a good example to us all the way from our childhood, right through our teens and into our adulthood.
Chief has these super sick one-liners that makes him ooze chad energy, but if you really think about John as a character, he responds that way because he thinks literally. Every one of those moments, are literal responses to literal questions. It's the environments he's in during those moments that really add the value.
“What if you miss?”
“I won’t.”
I love how she doesnt sound concerned when she asked more like she was making a bet
All time favorite of mine
@tyranus1111 because cortana didn't choose 117 because he was the best at anything, he was just lucky and had the heart to never give up. She chose him for that dumb luck. She knew

I always felt that the line was a jab at fallouts tag line, because I just feel like it should be followed up with "but war, war never changes"
“Tell that to the covenant” was always my favorite. It just feels so badass.
Yes! That and "what if you miss?" "I won't"
Also one of the lines that shows he's actually sarcastic. Since he doesn't had that much character in the original trilogy that adds up pretty good :)
