Ruger LCP MAX Semi-Auto Pistol
Concealed carry doesn't come anymore concealable than the Ruger® LCP® MAX Semi-Auto Pistol. This pocket-sized personal protection pistol measures smaller than every micro-compact 9mm on the market. Standard 10+1 capacity magazine comes with a flush floorplate installed. Textured grip frame ensures a secure, comfortable grip. Use the included finger-grip extension floorplate for a full firing grip or use an optional 12-round magazine (not included). Raised cocking ears and functional serrations on the slide allow easy manipulation. Smooth surfaces and edges on the slide and frame promote comfortable carry and handling. Tritium front sight with white outline delivers fast target acquisition in all light conditions. Rear sight has a generous U-notch for easy alignment, and a square front face makes 1-handed cocking quick and easy. Sight dovetails accept all aftermarket BodyGuard-pattern sights. Patented barrel cam geometry delays unlocking, slows the slide, and reduces felt recoil compared to other semi-auto pistols. This lightweight, compact pistol fits most existing LCP II holsters and features improved magazine feed lips, feed ramp, extractor, and barrel cam geometries. Reversible magazine release adds versatility. Ruger LCP MAX Semi-Auto Pistol includes a 10-round magazine, soft pocket holster, and magazine loader.

I bought this one. I gave my Gen 1 lcp 380 to my dad. He has carried a first edition taurus ulta light 38sp for 30 years. He's a lot older and smaller than her use to be. Said it was weighing his pants down. I told him, I got just the gun for you buddy. He's carried it everyday since, loves it. Love you dad, shoot straight.
I may be in the minority here. But I carried the LCP2 for about 3 years and then I bought the LCP max. I carried the max for about 2 days and I didn't like it compared to the LCP 2. It's taller and fatter. The LCP2 in my opinion is the ultimate pocket gun where no one will ever know you have it on you. The max felt bigger, printed more and I just felt it in my pocket more. I guess if I could make a comparison, it's like going from a 5" screen size phone to a 5.4" screen phone. Only about 10% bigger right? No big deal? Nope. It's noticeable when it's in your pocket. Furthermore, the LCP max is about the same dimensions as a Glock 42. Just half an inch shorter at the slide. I love my LCP2. Yes, lower capacity. But I will never get caught with it and I'll never get caught without it. Note: this is for days where my Glock 43x in the summer won't cut it and Glock 17 OWB isn't an option. LCP2: A True pocket Gun.
Solid post! Any difference in the triggers?
@@granthenderson696 they were very identical. But then again, my lcp2 has been shot a lot over the years. So it has a smooth break in.
@@joshv06 … thanks Josh. The Max is supposed to have a better trigger so I appreciate your opinion. I wanted the Max but I can’t find them in my area and I can find the LCP2 everywhere. I think I’m gonna get one based your opinion! It’s the perfect size for my day-job.
I agree even though I’ve never owned a LCP before. I have the Kahr p380. Jumped on the Max and even thought I believe it’s identical in weight, maybe a tad more due to extra rounds it is a bit thicker. I like it. So I guess absolute deep concealment with no print I’d go to my Kahr or your LCP. Baggy jean day I’ll grab the max. Gotta have a gun for every clothing day I guess! Haha
@@soonerfabrication4044 right on point. I always thought the max was just a higher capacity lcp2. It's not, it's a bigger gun 🤣.
Thanks for the video. Note to Future Buyers: I decided to purchase the LCP II. The reason: Lighter all the way around, Lighter when holding a full clip (obviously less ammo than the Max), thinner. To me all these where very important since I will be pocket carrying and for its intended purpose. Sights were not that important to me, especially for its intended purpose (close encounter) and plan on painting the front sight as well, yours came out great by the way. Just my two cents: a different point of view. Both are great in my opinion.
What do you think about either of these guns for appendix carry?
Exact reason I would choose the lcp2. I had the max and the lcp2 side by side and there is a considerable difference if the intention is a pocket carry on a small-mid frame person.
Recoil?
Hector…my thoughts exactly.
I sold my LCP II and picked up the LCP Max.
The higher capacity was a big reason but the sights and the thicker frame was what really sold me on the Max.
I shoot the Max better than I did the LCP II.
Thanks you Ruger, for the upgrade to a great little gun.
It's an amazing upgrade to a favorite of mine. I'm a fan too, Dale!
One of the very, very best comparison videos of any guns on UA-cam! Very fast paced, but completely full of excellent information. Thank you and congratulations on a job very well done.
Wow, thanks, Mustang!!
@@petervonpanda You are very welcome. Also, I failed to mention that I have subscribed.
One of the most thorough reviews I’ve ever seen, with no wasted time. I just traded in my original LCP for the LCP2. Now you've got me thinking about a further upgrade to the MAX!
I had the original LCP, modified LCP they came out with a few years later (still called LCP), and then the LCP II. I've got big hands and struggled with all of them, though the triggers got progressively better, much more so with the LCP II. It became my most carried gun (pocket), but always with the 7rd mag to give me more to grab onto. When the Max was announced I knew I had to get one, as much to get the beefier looking grip that my hands would like better. My first range session was with the 10rd as the 12 I ordered hadn't arrived. I shot it at least as well as the LCP II with the extended mag. Can't wait to try with the 12. Yes, it does fit my current Kydex holster perfectly.
I got mine 2 weeks ago. It’s a good gun but past 7 yards it’s tough. I also have the 12 round mag. The original 10 round won’t lock the slide back. Ruger sent me a new one, got it today and it works fine . Have 3 mags now. 1 10 round that doesn’t lock the slide, another that does got it today from ruger and a 12 round that works fine.
I wanted a small, easy to carry pocket pistol. The LCP2 works great for summer carry. I then wanted a winter carry gun with more punch. So I purchased a Max 9. Very happy with both of them.
How do you like the Max-9?
@@ndudley5442they’re 💩
I think for a pocket pistol the LCP II will fit nicer and not print as much.
My thoughts exactly. My LCP 2 is everything I want in a deep cover firearm. Not giving it up anytime soon.
Thanks for your great review. I agree, the extra capacity alone is a good reason to upgrade. The LCP MAX feels great in my hand.
Great Video. Thanks! I , too, have the same guns you show here, and notice that the muzzle of the gun doesn't jerk in movement upon trigger break like on the LCP 2. It's very stable with the MAX. Nice!!
Randy-IL
Great info, Randy! I haven’t even tried it yet but I’m inclined to think I’m going to like it and it sounds like it may be an even better shooter. Thanks for the heads up!
I started with the LCP when I retired and was never happy with the sights. I then got the LCP ll with the Veridian laser and it was okay, but I've been using iron sights on handguns for fifty years and I haven't really adapted to the laser bouncing around. I added the magazine extender which greatly improved the grip, but I'll probably get the LCP Max because it addresses the issue of better sights and a better grip. At that point I'll probably trade in the LCP ll because it would be redundant, but I've always kept the original LCP because it's so concealable that it can disappear into the most tailored suit or tuxedo without printing. The LCP ll is my EDC even though I own several small frame revolvers and pistols as well as a couple of full size revolvers and pistols. The LCP ll is just so easy to carry that it's an easy choice.
I just sold my LCP2 after I bought the LCP Max. The size difference in the pocket is negligible but the better sights and redesigned grip make a massive difference in shootability. They feel nothing alike. The Max shoots like a bigger pistol.
I'm hoping it shoots better as my LCPII is a little painful to shoot, but conveniently small.
More Ammo Capacity To...
@@markofmckinney941 it does.
I shot them both last week and ended up with the max
@@deasttn agree… I got to shoot mine last week and it’s a little better. I’m pleasantly surprised. Thanks for sharing your experience.
@@markofmckinney941 my suggestion..shoot a 44 magnum a few times. 380 to 45 will feel like nothing. That's how I improved
I'm sure this has been corrected a million times by now but the front sight is not fiber optic 2:57.
The front sight is tritium, not fiber optic.
That's what I was thinking, it's tritium night sights
I got one myself, I been seeing alot of reports of the slide not locking back, which I started experiencing myself. I do gunsmith work as a hobby and actually talked to ruger about it and what I found to be the reason in my opinion. Awesome carry pice tho, everything I'd want in something this size.
What did you find to be the issue?? My LCP 2 had the same issue with the original 6 round mag not locking the slide back. Was a little flashing on the follower I sanded off. Works fine now. Thanks
@@travispowell2471 what i suspect is two things, might be a combination of the two. The magazine spring isn't strong enough, or there is a little shelf on the side of the follower that pushes up on the mechanism that locks into the slide. I believe if you added say, .030 of material to that shelf, it would work better.
Good review. The only thing about the "nice and snug" holster; way to snug. Notice how much effort it took to get the gun out. You don't need it that snug; some have been unable to get the gun out. Yea, it's probably adjustable but my point is to be aware; don't have it to snug or it could cost you your life.
Absolutely agree I purchased a Harry’s holster for my Hellcat and I can’t even draw the firearm even when it is not on my belt.
Sending it back for a refund.
I traded my LCP2 in for the Max as soon it came out. Bought two 12 round mags and used my DeSantis Stealth Pro which holds the gun and an extra mag. That means I’m carrying 25 rounds in a tiny package. Is it accurate? You bet!
Best comparison I've seen. Have a Max coming this week.
Just ordered a Amberide holster. Glad to see one on the gun. Super value and great quality.
Best comparison that I've seen yet .
I have too many things goin on to buy the max right now but I’d love to have one! For now I ordered a hogue grip and a 7+1 extended magazine so now my lcp2 fits my hand better but now I have 8 rounds plus 6 in my extra magazine!having said that I will eventually either own the max .380 or the max 9mm
Love the ruger lcp 2 but the slide on ruger pistols seem to rust really easy.
Yea I scrubbed mine down after I first got it, with a nylon brush and some cleaner, then wipe it all down with a little oil.
MCARBO Spring kit for the max fixes the ting sound and really lightens the draw weight 👌
Ruger should include the 12 round mag.
I totally agree, Jason!
@@petervonpanda they will eventually...I'll wait until they do, then buy mine. Thanks for the great review.
How do you know that?
@@ooc49 when it's been out for awhile and sales slow down they will do exclusives to boost sales
My original LCP has NEVER experienced a malfunction in several years & hundreds of rounds so I’m reluctant to replace it. I carry it w/the factory 7 round mag & the Hogue rubber grip sleeve to accommodate my XLG hands. That said the Max has my interest but I may wait to purchase to see if any problems crop up w/the new model.
Don't replace your LCP, use the LCP Max as your back up gun 😎
I have the very original LCP. It was very first addition style. I have the extended magazine for my big hands and it will never have another home. Never got the number two because I felt it wasn't worth it to just upgrade for a new play toy. The Max has really caught my eye though.
So far, I’m loving it!
@@petervonpanda good. I have really been considering it. My new E.D.C is a 38 special Taurus 856. Good gun, but I still carry the LCP for no imprint sometimes with a sticky holster
The only downside to the LCP max is that the magazines are thicker, the single stack lcp 2 magazines are so thin you can throw a couple in your pocket without them being bulky
That was unsafe that you did not show me the guns were unloaded. You could of shot me.
Great review!
Great review, I got mine last week and it hasn't left my pocket. Shoots great as well.
One reviewer says that the sound of the max is a C note🎵🎶🎵
Have the lcp 2 and the max is on the way can't wait 😃👍
I think it's a no brainer upgrade, Steve, and you're going to love it!
Good comparison... thank you! It does appear that the grip length on the backside is longer, but I'm still likely to get one for the capacity and better sights. I generally pocket carry my LCPII and this doesn't look much bigger... certainly not as big as my P365, which I pocket carry sometimes as well.
Thanks for the review....I have the original LCP and was planning to get the LCP II, but now I think I will pick up one of these on Monday instead.
Thanks again.
Glad I could help! I think you'll like it!
What I've learned about Ruger, you should only run factory magazines. My 10-22 and mini 14 and lcp max run flawlessly with factory magazines.
The taller front sight will cause issues with some leather wallet holsters. To get them to fit put a cotton thin sock around it and get it in the holster than use a a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the leather and leave it for a couple day like that.
Great tip!!
I think the new Rugar LCP 2 is keyed in E.
I have both of these and love them both. My edc is currently the LCP max which I traded my Max 9 for.
Love both, have both i like the look of the 2 better but the rounds the max holds and the better sights and grip is definitely worth the upgrade.
if youre wondering this vid has zero downvotes. i upgraded from lcp 2 to lcp max and am more than happy upgrading
Thanks for an informative review, Concise presentation! Had to start and quit 5 other reviewers due to rambling and repeating too much. Looking forward to more reviews.
Sailrjay
I'm about to make the switch. The question I have is- do I have to buy a new Hogue hand grip or can I still squeeze the old one on. How about my Vidian red dot?
Please do an update and show how both would carry in a front pocket - with and without a holster. Does the Max disappear in the front pocket like the II does without a holster? Thanks.
you do not want to carry either without holster
Not all holsters engage well. It fits but isn’t engaging the locking on my vedder pocket holster.
“just the tip” LOL !
The Extractor flew off of my Ruger LCP 11 .380 shooting Sammi Spec .380 at 75 rounds in rendering this Firearm useless. Walked right off of the Range and bought a reliable firearm Glock 42. I was about to buy the Ruger Max but after this catastrophic failure. You can not depend your life on this Firearm . Ruger expert said the NC Factory are Building the LCP 11 slide out of Spec causing the extractor to catastrophically fail. The expert said the assemble line for the LCP11 out of AZ is flawless in there quality. Don't trust Ruger LCP 11 off of the assembly line in North Carolina.
Interesting that Goontoob didn't send subscriber notifications on this topical video. Found by topic instead. Great option
Glad to see you doing pew pew reviews again.
I’d do more but UA-cam has blocked a bunch of them.
i like the size of the lcp 2 better than the max because the max is the same height as my sig 365 the sig is just a bit longer so why carry the max 380 when i can conceal the sig 9mm as easily. the lcp 2 fits all pockets or a smaller sneaky pete holster the max takes a larger sneaky pete holster.
Yeah I was looking at the lcp max and when I realized it was almost exactly the same size as the p365 I went for that
Not only do I have the same golf clubs as you, but I also have the same guns
Good choice of hobbies!!!!
Is there a threaded barrel for the max? Or is it the same barrel as LCP2?
I just got the 12 rounders for the max definitely a fake changer
Please let us know where you got that holster?
I think what everyone wants to know is are the slides interchangeable?
The slides will interchange and dry fire but I never tried live firing it that way. The new slide has better sights and an improved extractor so the only advantage would be using the max on the LCP II.
Great vid. Thanks.
I have the lcp 2 and in the owners manual it suggests that you DO NOT carry with one chambered, first this model say the same thing?
This guy reviews everything he's gonna review nukes next just watch
Just ordered nukes on Amazon.

Thanks for watching, Jay!
why does the lcp max have hole in the side of the gun?
Good video 📹
Golf & guns.. hell yeah! Subbed
There should be a combined sport!
@@petervonpanda maybe I could finally get some birdies. Just joking lol
Ha ha
There's a store near Pigeon Forge TN that has both. Floyds Golf n Guns
Do you think that .380 ACP is good enough for self defense ?
Personally, I think so. I’ve seen enough data that 380 performs a lot like 9mm in close quarters.
@@petervonpanda Thanks for getting back to me. I am trying to decide between the .380 acp and the 9mm as my first pistol for edc ccw use.
@@kb3mpx The SIG P365 is a great pistol. I like it's overall size... fits my hand better than many full size, and shoots 9mm. I'd say if you're going to have 1, that's a great balanced gun. But if you're going to carry, I find it hard to carry 9mm of any size. It's a lot easier for my to do 380 as I'm mostly a t-shirt and shorts guy.
Just the tip!
will the lasers that fit lcp2 fit on the max /thxs
I called Ruger they said “yes”. I took my laser off my LCP 2 and sold it a few weeks back for almost what I bought it for 2 1/2 years ago! And I ordered a Max last week, hopefully the laser will fit fine.👍🏻
Thanks for that comparison. That weird 'twang' is what's kept me from buying a LCP Max.
Got one on order
I think you’re going to love it, Art!
@@petervonpanda the one I got to handle (another customer's who ordered but hasn't picked up yet) felt pretty good
Relax, slow down.
6:24 sounds like JoeysWorldTour.
Is it safe to carry one in chamber
What do you think about the 2 triggers, the old one seems to lack a wall and instead travels a little more.
How do they feel? Is one trigger cleaner than the other?
My lcp max has a wayyy heavier trigger than my lcp 2, but it has a much better break
What’s the best defense 380 ammo to purchase?
I use Sig Sauer Elite Performance, but I never shot anyone so I can’t tell you it’s what I found , I did draw my firearm twice and that’s where it ended and I’m blessed with that .
A friend of mine got shot ( one round of 380), about 4 inches above the waste line on the right side oblique as he was running away from a random shooting in Brooklyn NY.
Once the round hit him ( just for reference he’s an excellent shape and still is) he was able to run half a block and collapsed, with that said did the Hood-rat use Hollow points or regular ball ammo your guess, it’s like saying is a 12 gauge slug more effective than a 20 gauge slug I’m sure the bad guy isn’t going to get up and say “hey you should have used a bigger caliber “ .
All these keyboard tough guys will tell you never use a 22LR for self defense but none of them will take a round to the head, the heart or anywhere else to prove the 22LR isn’t a good round.
Buy what you find and pray you never have to use it because whether you’re justified or not lawyers will cost you a ton of money and the stress that you and your family will go through..
I just put the first 100 rounds through my new LCP Max and I'm having issues with the Mags dropping out while shooting. In looking at it, it seems the catch is so thin that even the lightest pressure on the mag release will release it. Anyone else have this issue?
You need to change your grip and get most likely your thumb off of that button.
Great review, but dude... those are not medium sized hands... lol
The ladies always tell me that too
A lot of butt hurt original LCP owners here. The slightly bigger size (still incredibly small) on the Max is so outweighed by its capacity and reliable. Better sights, better trigger, better capacity…..better everything. Time marches on. Upgrade as soon as you can well worth it.
👍👍
both of these guns are ammo dependent. Cheap ammo, bad day.
Ruger fucked up the LCP Max trigger. They should have put the same trigger as the LCP2. It was great. The Max trigger is just awful Too stagy and heavy.
Not true bitch
All the lcp Max's are on gun broker
I ordered one off Buds last week, $379. 👍🏻
Yes, they are already dropping in price at buds
Picked one up in stock at Rual King yesterday for $341.00
lcp and lcp 2 are for beginngers and people on a tight budget. Wouldn't want it if it is free! Worst micro 380 shooter. Extremely snappy, no real sights, too tiny, uncomfortable to hold and shoot. Haven't shot the lcp max yet. LCP max is 10x better than the lcp and lcp 2.
LCP Max is for posers who think they are going to a spagetti western shootout to single handedly take out a gang of bad guys. That and tactical wannabees.
That's what Alec Baldwin said....
I doubt he even bothered saying it.
Dude …. Slow down
Too much caffeine!!!!
Never enough caffeine!
