Something I just realized after a year, that has a much darker reality. The fact that you can use the end crystals to revive the dragon means that Jean could endlessly kill her. Which could mean Jean is being killed for her hide to make more Elytra, but as we see when we kill her there is no body to harvest. This has one of two situations, either Jean was revived and killed so many times she now doesn't have a body to harvest. Or the builders built this system killed her, revived her then killed her again only to find that she no longer had a body to harvest. So they gave up leaving Jean to suffer eternal life. But either came to study her later, or as Endermen not understanding why, then remembering why they came to Jean when she accidentally hits them.

Could the Endermen be the ancient Builder's last resort at re-introducing an apex predator into the ecosystem, literally using themselves as sacrifice and becoming monsters while the rest tried leaving the end to a yet to be seen expansion?
About that opening line: "bees shouldn't be able to fly" is only true if you're using the laws of *fixed-wing* aviation. Bees (and presumably dragons) use sheer brute force to overcome gravity and drag.
Cool, I didn't know that, I thought bees were just less impacted by air resistance or something, though I guess then they'd struggle in moving in the direction they want to.
Kinda, bees have a special way to flap their wings that generates more lift than a normal up and down stroke would if I'm not mistaken, dragons however would probably have to abide by the same restrictions and mechanisms of larger pterosaurs, as well as being ultimately limited by the accursed square cube law (at one point you become so heavy your muscles just cannot generate the power to make you airborne, and adding more muscle just makes it worse).
I'm not so sure... Looking at the dragon, it seems a bit odd. When the dragon dies, it doesn't just fall over like other mobs, it explodes, crumbling to pieces. It also creates a portal to the islands as it dies. And the sound it makes, it sounds like a machine crumbling, ending off with a powering down noise. Also, the dragon heads can be powered by redstone. And while you can't hatch the egg, you can respawn the dragon by using end crystals. If you can just make new dragons, why are you worried about their extinction? I propose that the dragon was in fact artificial, created by the builders as a sort of guard dog, to prevent anyone, or anything, from following them into the end. That's why every end portal goes straight to the center island, as opposed to nether portals, which go to a relative spot between the dimensions.
Love it, but how would it open the portal back to the overworld? Why would they make it a guard dog if the portal could just stay open for people to grab resources maybe and leave? Still has a few loose ends, but amazing idea

I actually think the Elytras are made from Phantoms, the mob that appears if you dont sleep 3 nights in a row. Not only do their wings look very similar, but you literally use phantom membranes, the items they drop, to repair elytras in an anvil.
I'm leaning more this way too. Also given the elytras size I feel like it is far more likely they might be more tied to the phantom than the ender dragon. I'm almost ready to start a crazy wall to try to pin down the link between the elytras, phantoms, the ancient builders desire to access other dimensions, and why beds explode in the end and nether.... canonically of course, not just as a preventative mechanic to make sure the player doesn't get permanently stuck in either.
You got a point, yes, the membranes fix the Elytra but you cannot get Elytra in the overworld. The phantoms only drop membrane to repair them. Kinds sounds like another theory
Maybe the Elytra (plural of elytron) are crafted using parts from the dragon wings in conjunction with phantom membranes. The dragon wings are more durable due to the dragon's resilience (high HP), leading to the more delicate phantom membranes possibly ripping and tearing and needing to be patched up. It might be that the dragon wing parts sort of work as the framework or "bones" for the Elytra, with phantom membranes serving as the webbing. It makes a lot of sense, seeing how the Elytra are entirely gray, which is the same color as that part on Ender Dragon wings.
@@thegeeg1748 Yes, but it still supports my theory. Elytra cannot fully break, they sit at 1 durability. It's because the framework stays intact, but the phantom membrane is completely broken, so it's still possible to repair, but not to fly, since skeleton wings don't really work.
@ADR Cool? I mean I wouldn't really call it "evil". I mean, like SCP and Creepypasta most of those videos were probably created as a joke or to spook easily scared people.
What about the fact that you can summon another dragon using Crystal's, if the Crystal's are man-made, and they can summon dragons, does that leave the possibility of dragons being man-made?
I doubt it. Perhaps the crystals tie to the ability of creating life that the builders were following. They finally achieve it, but are stuck in the End forever...
Maybe the crystals had enough potential to hatch a non fertilised dragon egg (they would not hunt down their creation [if they created dragons ] so cruelly that only one of is left And if they could create more why protect the last of the species? Just make more of the dragons So dragons are not man made I think
I personally theorise that the respawned dragons are mere clones of the dragons, since they do not drop another egg when killed. The builders were able to make the cloning technology but weren't able to breed the two dragons, moreover I think the real dragon was hostile towards the cloned dragon.
You know what’s even more terrifying? The dragon never truly dies. Maybe the end crystals don’t just heal it, but they store it’s soul too, but you can respawn the enderdragon and start it’s torment all over again.
Maybe the soul never leaves the end and there is a soul fluid in the air. When Jean dies, the pillars act as sone sort of barrier not letting her soul be with the other dragons. Or even the bedrock structure, because you place the crystals in there to respawn her. Maybe the bedrock structure is tied to her soul
This is the plot twist of the Minecraft movie at the End. Steve brings the dragons back to life so they can rebuild their world after the builders wrecked it.
“Do not kill the Ender Dragon.” Me sitting here not having even gone into the Nether for more than 10 minutes: *already ahead of you. I’d never hurt Jean*
@@balala8668 Albino isn't a separate species of giraffe, so the term doesn't apply there. Any two parents can produce an albino offspring. Just depends on the genes.
Here's what I think happened, although it might get buried: When the civilization fled into the End, they realized they were trapped and the only way to escape was to kill all the dragons. Some embarked on the journey to slay all the dragons, yet others opted not to hunt an entire species to extinction. Whether or not there was a civil war remains to be seen. However, the people who chose to save the species ultimately won this debate, causing everyone to turn into enderman due to their long exposure to the chorus fruit, with a single dragon preventing their escape.
Counter theory: the ancient guys said "hey, this is one of the last dragons. Let's make hunting it REEALLY challenging!" And then they just couldn't beat it
it could honestly go 2 ways. Either they tell a story about the ancient builders (which is very rich for story and characters) or a story about steve discovering them and beating the enter dragon (which is more emotional). I would like it either way as long as they make it interesting, and do justice to steve (if they include him) as he is one of the most fancinating and best game characters I've seen.
Maybe Jean has already died, you are just summoning her phantom back using end crystals. She looks somewhat like a corpse, although she is different from the other undead (or she is some kind of revival attempt but not in the category of undead because the others want her material)
Theory: phantoms are evolved ender dragons that migrated to the over world after near extinction from the hunters. You can use the membranes to heal the elytra due to the similarities is the chemical bond. Phantoms realized they would be better having many of their kind than a low count of big ones and that’s why they are easier and smaller. You can’t sleep in the end. That’s why the phantoms come when you don’t sleep. It’s a sense of recognition.
Maybe thats why they only attack at night, the end seems to be a perpetualy dark state and they would be hypersensitive to sunlight, hence burning? And when you're tired- you would be much easier to fight. You're probably right Lucky-Lotus!
But they are both females. Edit: Someone else already told me the rest are males since they don't drop eggs, and I already said that's a good point. So don't repeat it again please.
And (some of us) thought Dream was bad before. Tut tut, Mr Green Teletubby. First L'manberg, then your reputation, NOW THIS?! The only suitable punishment is punching obsidian for 24 hours a day while a pig smacks a bell behind you.
MatPat you NEED to look at all the lore in MC dungeons, in one of their most recent videos Mojang admitted that the two worlds were supposed to be link there is SO MUCH lore and information that you need to make a video about it and investigate.
Why is nobody talking about how matpat just made the smoothest transition ever from eternal torment to school?? This stuff is gold. Edit: Yes, I do realize that school is eternal torment. I literally just started my school year too. That was the whole point of this post.
I like the idea of someone or a group protecting the dragon. Especially when you think about how the end island the dragon is on, is MILES out in the middle of the void with no surrounding land whatsoever. Almost like someone was trying to hide it. To protect it.
9:34 those are all mammals. When we look at extinct reptiles like sauropods, we see quantity over quality prevail, so another reptile like the ender dragon could also prefer quantity.
I feel like we should mention that phantom membranes or whatever they're called can fix the minecraft wings. It might just be that phantoms simply have similar wings to the dragon, but I just think it's a point to consider.
I'm gonna go off of wifies' theory here, but i assume they were related once, before they traveled out of the void into different dimensions, one where they grew massive and another where they became small, but the material is still the same
If they had obsidian in the end, the builders may have made a nether portal and realised that living in the end was safer than in the nether, which may explain why some endermen live in the nether. The original builders who made the portal from the end wouldn't have went back, and probably didn't tell their descendants about it either (probably moving away from it). However, when the endermen could teleport, they found it and a few brave ones went through. Some may have wondered away from their portals and gotten lost, choosing to live in the warped forests, while others may have found portals into the overworld. This would explain why there are endermen in both worlds
The phantom membranes might be a part of the elytra, but aren’t the only resource needed, thus ender dragon wings. And you can only respawn the dragon after you kill her. It might be bringing her as a spirit or as a memory.
I think that the reason you can use a phantom membrane to repair an elytra is because phantoms can fly so phantom meat can be used as a substitute for the broken parts of the elytra and for the fact that you can respawn the ender dragon, maybe the old builders didn’t know that you could respawn the ended dragon
Counter counter argument, phantom membrane could be part of the recipe and the dragons wings could be the other part, and it could be the reason they are grey, and the way you respawn the ender dragon is the same way it heals, with the end crystals, which the ancient builders might have only discovered with the realization that Jean was the last dragon
Mat, I believe that it is called an elytra because it is not the actual wings. They are but a protective layer of the dragons wings, explaining why they make you glide and not fly

The first Phantom design had thicker wings than what they currently are, they can drop membranes which are parts of those wings that allows repairing elytras, but prob not solid enough to merge together into Elytras themselves I fear (that my theory)
its an old, powerful creature. the bedrock perhaps serves as a basin for its magical blood to swirl into a magical portal, and any other dragon could've done the same had they been alive
Mattaton: “Someone will kill the last dragon ending the species once and for all.” People who revive the dragon with end crystals: “Are you sure about that?”
@@-Sober- the credits roll, but the game continues once they’re done. You can later resurrect the dragon to do the battle again, just like building a new Wither.
I like this theory, however I'm curious how we would fit in the part where you in-game, can summon a new dragon by making 4 ender crystals. Could it be that the end crystal don't just "heal" the dragon, but actually regenerate or clone cells at an extreme rate?
I really hoped he would at least mention the respawn mechanic when he brought up End crystals. I like the idea that it creates ender dragon cells rather than healing. It makes sense seen as the end crystals don't heal anything else, so it isn't a general healing thing. Maybe the combination of ghast and ender eye creates something close enough to ender dragon cells which can be used to heal, or even create, a dragon?
@@calebmorri If that was the case, instead of using the crystals to protect the last dragon, they could simply use them to create multiple dragons and thus save the whole species
How to restore the ender dragon species 1.kill jean 2.get the dragon egg 3. Revive Jean and glitch the game into spawning 10000 ender dragons Congratulations you just restored an entire species
Yeah me too , but i have a theory, here is my theory : What if you respawn the dragon ? With 4 end crystals? You can do that... In a dream manhunt the hunters spawned another dragon using end crystals... i know that was a bug but still.. its possible Mybe Mojang shud add a way to have 2 dragond and breed them... But i dont think they will do that... 🙁☹
Here's a mini theory: Once you kill the ender dragon it drops tons of experience orbs. All of those experience orbs were probably from all the builders who either died while building the towers, or from the ones that Jean killed. This would also explain why re summoning the ender dragon and killing it again won't drop all the experience it did the first time.
Many issues. Firstly, that exp is coming out of nowhere. You would expect the dragon to drop a normal amount amount if it truely got the xp from killing things. Secondly, mobs killed by anything but the player or something related to the player dont drop xp. The reason it drops less xp is most likely a game balance decision because getting caught 70 levels everytime you kill it is overpowered.
MatPat: "And unfortunately humans do what they do best." Me, with my fully enchanted crossbow aiming for Jean as we speak: "Yer goddamn right, partner"
12:19 You can repair Elytras with Phantom membranes, which means that Phantoms and Jean have a common materials in there wings. I think if the player could gather enough phantom membranes, he could craft Elytras. That's my theory. Personally, I would really like an episode about Phantoms
Elytra is made of phantom membrane, not dragon wings. Its texture is the same color as the edge of the phantom's wings. It can also be repaired with the membrane. I would guess that elytra was made by the builders before the whole wither thing caused them to flee to the end. As for why you can't craft it, you can't craft many thing that the builders made, like the end portal frame.
Maybe the possible reason why you can't craft elytras is that elytras are made out of both the wings of the dragon and the Phantom membranes put together as they are the only two hostile flying mob with wings and we can't take anything from bats is because bats don't drop anything on top of that I feel that their wings would be too small or they would just end up dropping some kind of small leather kind of like rabbits do

Bees (and presumably dragons) use sheer brute force to overcome gravity and drag.
ua-cam.com/video/Cmp1R7frXWw/v-deo.html
Cool, I didn't know that, I thought bees were just less impacted by air resistance or something, though I guess then they'd struggle in moving in the direction they want to.
Kinda, bees have a special way to flap their wings that generates more lift than a normal up and down stroke would if I'm not mistaken, dragons however would probably have to abide by the same restrictions and mechanisms of larger pterosaurs, as well as being ultimately limited by the accursed square cube law (at one point you become so heavy your muscles just cannot generate the power to make you airborne, and adding more muscle just makes it worse).
imagin being so strong you just start flying
I love how there’s no reason for this comment to exist and I like it :)
That's why every end portal goes straight to the center island, as opposed to nether portals, which go to a relative spot between the dimensions.
ua-cam.com/video/AYsGlBOLJC4/v-deo.html
.
Love it, but how would it open the portal back to the overworld? Why would they make it a guard dog if the portal could just stay open for people to grab resources maybe and leave? Still has a few loose ends, but amazing idea

Kind of emotional whiplash, but yeah, it is true.
@@Conorator We know that elytra are not very durable though, they break just from flying very quickly without help from unbreaking 3 and mending
@@thegeeg1748 Yes, but it still supports my theory. Elytra cannot fully break, they sit at 1 durability. It's because the framework stays intact, but the phantom membrane is completely broken, so it's still possible to repair, but not to fly, since skeleton wings don't really work.

Maybe the crystals had enough potential to hatch a non fertilised dragon egg (they would not hunt down their creation [if they created dragons ] so cruelly that only one of is left
And if they could create more why protect the last of the species? Just make more of the dragons
So dragons are not man made I think
I personally theorise that the respawned dragons are mere clones of the dragons, since they do not drop another egg when killed. The builders were able to make the cloning technology but weren't able to breed the two dragons, moreover I think the real dragon was hostile towards the cloned dragon.
Gasp
@Gff G STOP
You know what’s even more terrifying? The dragon never truly dies. Maybe the end crystals don’t just heal it, but they store it’s soul too, but you can respawn the enderdragon and start it’s torment all over again.
No
Maybe the soul never leaves the end and there is a soul fluid in the air. When Jean dies, the pillars act as sone sort of barrier not letting her soul be with the other dragons. Or even the bedrock structure, because you place the crystals in there to respawn her. Maybe the bedrock structure is tied to her soul

Here's what I think happened, although it might get buried:
When the civilization fled into the End, they realized they were trapped and the only way to escape was to kill all the dragons.
