We all just gonna ignore that Luigi single-handedly held off a Dry Bones army with a door, and blocked Bowser’s fire breath with a manhole cover? He might be a timid green guy, but he’s definitely not weak.
The reason why Luigi never pulls up his sleeves is because if he did, the swoleness of his arms would burst out and make bodybuilders look like stick figures.
It's not uncommon for video game characters to be theorized as immortal here on game theory so why bother wasting a whole video on it? 😂 *Not trying to sound rude*
I felt that Peach's reason for bringing Mario with her made sense in hindsight. Toad was literally the only Toad brave enough to go with her, meaning she was pretty much on her own for this adventure otherwise. Then she meets another human like herself for the first time that wants to go to save his brother. When Mario demanded to go, she gave him a day to complete a course to prove he wouldn't slow her down. She had already planned to head out to the Kong's island the next day. So she didn't spend any extra time on him. Basically, "Nobody else is going with me tomorrow, and then I meet the first-ever human aside from myself that wants to do it to save his brother. If he can complete this combat course showing he won't slow me down before I leave, he can come along."
The other possible factor that played a part in this was her witnessing Mario's determination. He never gave up for even a second. Even after she fell asleep he continued to try. He's persistent and didn't listen when someone told him no. Even pushing through his repulsion to mushrooms just to save his brother.

@RoyalMeera No surprise a Steven Universe fan would be able to clearly tell when someone is a child. ...This is a joke, by the way, I have nothing against SU fans. Just had to say this in case of any arguments-
Bowser and Kamek seem to know what humans are (they refer to Mario and Luigi that way), and Toad also never seems confused by what Mario is, so I’d say it’s safe to assume humans might be common knowledge in the Mushroom kingdom. I don’t think that works as evidence that Peach isn’t human or has some astral knowledge.
Also, one thing I noticed in the scene when Kamek is talking to Bowser about Mario and Luigi, he uses the term "Star Child". A reference that Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser are mentioned to be Star Children in Yoshi's Island DS.
I think it's weird that King Boo appears during the wedding, but we never see another Boo in the entire movie. I think that's to hint at Luigi's Mansion in the future, and it would certainly balance out the brothers' screentimes.
Personally I'd like that so that they can show us why the king boo at the wedding wasn't the right king boo (the Correct king boo is the one with the design from luigi's mansion 2 and 3, while the incorrect one is the one that appears in spinoff games like mario kart. they showed the wrong design which opens the door to either just a mistake or perhaps there are two of them, or maybe he just looks different depending on certain circumstances)
Some of the concept art released recently showed Luigi interacting with boos when he was trapped in the Dark Lands. Cool to think about, but wonder why they were cut
I love the theory of “not being able to get physically hurt in the mushroom kingdom” BUT something got overlooked… In the fight scene against D.K. you are able to see distinct scratch marks on D.K.’s face from Cat Mario so that could only mean one thing… You are only able to get physically hurt in the Mushroom Kingdom with the help of a power-up.
Perhaps the only way to die is being taken out by someone using a power up. DK wasn't using any special items when he was fighting Mario but since Mario had the cat suit, he was able to inflict damage to him. This is also why the Mushroom kingdom is so afraid of Bowser when he has the super star. He can do actual damage to them, even killing the entire kingdom I also noticed that when Mario and Luigi use the super start to defeat Bowser in Brooklyn, Bowser doesn't really show evidence of damage either. I'll have to watch the movie again but I don't remember seeing damage and he certainly didn't die. So I wonder if the power up items have a different affect in the real world vs the Mushroom Kingdom.
I feel like Peach knows what humans are because the Toads know what humans are. Peach, Mario and Luigi aren't the first humans to come to the Mushroom Kingdom, given that there's literally a pipe to the MK in Brooklyn. So at some point there were more humans, but they left or died off at some point. The Toads knew about humans and told Peach when she grew up, because at some point she surely would have realized that she's not a Toad. She just doesn't know what other humans look like because the others are gone for whatever reason
The “Peach is star” theory is actually *supported in the games* (sort of) alongside the other main characters being stars too. In Yoshi’s Island DS it is said that there are 7 “ *star children* that are born from a mighty dying star; destined for greatness” and the plot revolves around future Bowser trying to find these children to “harness their power to take over the universe”. At the end it is revealed that these star children included Bowser himself, Mario, Luigi, Wario, Donkey Kong, and of course Peach. The final scene that makes me believe they could draw from this is a green Yoshi hatching from his egg to reveal the final star child. This is incredibly similar the the Yoshi reveal in the post-credit scene of the movie.
I'm suspecting that Peach this time around isn't Rosalina's mother, but in fact her daughter. I know, I know, it's crazy, but it does hold some merit. Stars and moons on her dress, the super-charged pipe, it all makes me think that Peach is Rosalina's daughter this time.
@@samurexatlas7373 Because literally nothing implies that in the Game verse, let alone the movie verse probably. Peach is not Rosalina's mother nor daughter in the games, nor do they have a close connection. Because of this, why would illumination just make Peach related to Rosalina in the movie verse when that's not a thing in any media of Mario? That doesn't make sense. All of Mapats Mario theories are false, and you shouldn't take them for granted.
Counterpoint on Theory #3: Bowser also knows what a human is. There could be some academic knowledge of humans in this world, like how we would recognize a mermaid.
the pipe to the Mushroom Kingdom is just in some random sewer system under Brooklyn, Mario guesses that no one's been there in years but it's still very possible that at some point a human or two ended up there, maybe Wario and Waluigi or something for all we know
I think Everyone ins the Mushroom Kingdom already knew what a human is, I already made a comment on it thus far. Plus, Peach is a Princess; she has access to several sources of knowledge, but at least the movie acknowledges that a human in the mushroom kingdom is rare.
@@orangeinkius7257 It's probably gonna turn out to be a thing were the Mushroom Kingdom turns out to be some sort of central traveling nexus point for the "Warp System" to ALL galaxies and dimensions out there in the Nintendo world, including "real" earth. Hence why a warp had to be there for Brooklyn too. Maybe Rosalina herself built the warp system to make traveling long distance easier at some point in the past? As for Peach, I think it's the other way around for her relationship with Rosalina: She's not Rosalina's mother, She's her daughter. Since Rosalina is a "goddess" of the galaxy of sorts, that takes into account as to why Peach doesn't call herself human despite appearances. She instinctively knows she's divine and from the stars. That said, yeah, it'd be nice to know how they already know humans exist. In Chronicles of Narnia, humans are treated almost like a legend at best or conspiracy at worst, almost like we would consider aliens. But the Narnianans know about us through legends and stuff. Maybe it's something similar with the Mushroom Kingdom.
You know what game that started as a generic jumpman platformer, was heavily designed around vertical scrolling mechanic like Kid Icarus and ICe Climber, a bit of Gunpei Yokoi staple? A little project they then released as part of a fuji TV licensing deal, called... Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic. At this point the vertical scrolling had drastically been altered more towards typical horizontal scrolling. MAYBE the alteration to Yume Kojo project never happened, because Fuji TV never HAD THAT EVENT. Because... Sarasaland does exist in this universe, complete with Shy Guys.
I SWEAR. I was watching the Mario movie and I was thinking about a film theory that said Mario couldn't die or he is dead. Apparently my clairvoyance rivals only that of MatPat himself.
The reason peach took mario on her adventure is because she's a nice person. That's all the motivation you need, and they also clearly liked mario and felt bad for them, therefor wanted to help them. So theres clearly some motivation to bring Mario there and you can't deny it.
I gotta admit that at first I thought it was a bit forced but quickly changed my mind in that Peach just wanted to help him out since he was lost in this newfound world and is trying to find his brother, I just can not understand why people think it was rushed? Also something funny I realized is that some of Chris´ roles has them get beat up by badass woman at first sight for a good reason lol all of them except Emmet who just got slapped with a cactus all because he lied about being a master builder and the guy that can save the world (which he eventually did in the end), okay the master builder part I get, but Lucy did just tell him earlier that he was the person that can save the world, so he is not really lying if she quite frankly told him that he was the one so that´s kinda on her, out of all the main Pratt roles I have seen so far (and every main character for that matter that I know of), Emmet is the one that I think has had the worst treatment by far in any media (sorry Star lord fans), for two movies straight, this guy would go as far as to risk his life to save the people that he cares about, and everyone else would respect him for it, then years later act like he did absolutely nothing in the last movie, even though they straight up dipped out and were ready to accept their fate the moment they learned that he was not what they were expecting, even Emmet himself was starting to get slightly fed up during the moment where the gang were thinking of ideas on how to build their submarine and Emmet tried to tell them that putting all their ideas together would not work but they didn´t listen and he just had look of ¨I don´t know why I even put up with these people¨ look, I swear you can not make a character any more sympathetic than this, okay that´s all.
Mario clearly was not important to bring on the journey, since Peach could do everything from platforming to fighting Donkey Kong on her own, and she even says "he's not important" when talking to the Toads about Mario. Whatever Mario did in his journey to save Luigi and defeat Bowser, Peach could do with less difficulty. She may have shown kindness to Mario by letting him come along on the journey, but by doing so she risked endangering his life and potentially killing him. A good reason to have Mario go on the journey would be if Peach couldn't, as in there had to be something holding her back from going, like an injury or something. Maybe if it happened after Mario completed his training, this would give Mario a reason to go instead of Peach, as he would be the second-best parkour platformer in the land, behind Peach. Of course, my argument would be totally invalid, but I thought that this was how the story should go to give Mario further reason to go on the journey.
@@bencroyle3962 I think Peach knew she wouldn't be able to convince Mario to stay behind. He was trying to find his brother and we all know that Mario doesn't take no for answer when it comes to getting aid in finding Luigi. Mario would do anything to protect and save Luigi. If Peach said know, Mario would've put himself in danger anyway and Toad would have too because he was trying to help. Mario wouldn't have stood a chance on his own, especially if he didn't know about power-ups. Bowser would've defeated him within seconds. Peach increased his chances by taking him with her.
I'm mildly upset that it seems like EVERYONE is forgetting about Daisy :( All I wanted is for her to be playing tennis in the background and have peach go "Hey Girl!" to Daisy.
oh no, my friend....Daisy not appearing in this movie is the best part. this means in *the next movie, Daisy will likely have a much more significant role- **_possibly even as a main character._*
They hinted at her slightly when the toad council pulled up the map You see a dessert region which I'm assuming is sarasaland. The kingdom ruled by princess daisy
i was hopping for a escape arc where luigi finds daisy trappedin that place too and they both escape and make their own plans to find mario and stop bowser, still what we got was very cool but they put mah boi in cage for nearly half of the movie
I’m hoping the next film will be a Luigi’s mansion movie to make up for his lack of screen time in the first one and reverse the roles. I think the whole Yoshi thing will be the thing that we leap into with no context at the beginning of the movie to kick things off and tie the two together, with maybe Luigi getting his first hint of bravery after the first movie by being the one to wrangle and save the baby Yoshi in the streets of Brooklyn, and it calls him mama, referencing the infamous Mama Luigi of one of the old Mario cartoons. It would be a cool moment to start the second movie on and would be a good way to establish Luigi as the main focus of the movie, and his struggle to be brave as a theme. At the end we could have a reverse parallel of the reunion in the first movie, proving Luigi is as capable as Mario. That’s my big theory. I think it would make a ton of narrative sense, and given we’ve seen king boo at bowser’s sham wedding, it seems like they’re already seeding clues, or at very least making the possibility known.
I’ve always loved Mario so I don’t really wanna see him doing nothing, like a sidekick because lore-wise it doesn’t make much sense. But, a situation where Mario gets captured where Luigi has to become independent would work
@@evagarcia865 Maybe the plot they'll use to change King Boo's design for the next movie will be the power of the crown he wears transforming him to his very core.
I highly doubt the one theory about Luigi turning into a skeleton if he fell into the lava, while we see that fire can indeed turn a living thing into a dry bones, when the same skeleton zombies are chasing Luigi in the dark lands, he and the army of undead koopas arrive at one of Bowser's old castle with a lava river, Luigi manages to pass but a lot of the koopas who where chasing after him fall in the lava, we can see how the're getting disolve in the liquid rock and the glow in their eyes turn off, so as fire just burns your flesh but you keep living, falling into lava can be depicted as the "ultimate death"
Actually if you think about what lumas do in Mario Galaxy they’re just whiling to die and transform themselves into planets galaxies etc, specifically the blue lumas with mouths like the one in the movie they ask you to feed them so they can die and become a planet, so it's just their way of seeing life and death but of course a little more cinical and creepy because it's funny.
The scene with Peach and the fire flowers is the most beautiful in the entire movie in my opinion. She's my favorite character and they did really well on her costumes and design
man, the last mini theory makes me want a Kid Icarus movie so bad... Uprising was such an amazing game, and the characters would translate to a movie so well.
This was wonderful. I’m a dad with kiddos who love video games as much as me…because I brainwashed them. And we couldn’t wait to watch the Mario movie…and then watch the game theory that would inevitably come out. This channel has become a family thing, I love it. Keep it up!
We had to wait until we were adults for Mario to make an appearance on the silver screen the way he deserved to, but they finally did it! and we couldn't have asked for more! the live action version, the 3 TV series, and the anime adaption were cute, but just didn't do him justice; but this movie knocked it out of the park.
Just a little detail to point out: At the end of the movie, when Mario is thrown in the punch-out pizzeria after being demolished by Bowser; he has a harsh insecurity moment about being short and weak, just like little mac. It's so well thought out
The first theory about Mario not dying was something I kind of thought about, I noticed the lack of injuries in the mushroom kingdom but lot of injuries in Brooklyn and I just thought that damage was just different in the mushroom kingdom. But I didn’t think that whole biology was different, nice theories.
I just have one point to make about peaches memories: If she wasn't able to remember being Human because of Childhood Amnesia, then how would she remember the day she appeared in the mushroom kingdom?
Can we please see an Amazing World of Gumball theory there is so much lore and the seri3s ends with a cliffhanger. It’s an amazing show form Cartoon Network that deserves to be recognized plus heavy LORE.
Loved this movie, went into it barely knowing anything about it! But you know I was actually a big fan of the 80's music in it, I really enjoyed it, it's a pity it didn't seem like many did
yeah I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and I personally didn't think the 80s music was out of place. I thought it was to reference the era the Mario series first became so popular.
I'm glad Yoshi, Daisy, Wario, Rosalina, and others didn't appear in this movie outside of yoshi's very minor cameo, because they would not have received enough screentime. by saving them for later movies, they can be far more impactful as supporting characters, or perhaps even secondary characters.
I know she’s not a real character in Nintendo I would have loved Bowsette to some how show up in the movie. Even though Nintendo CLEARLY wants to forget Bowsette for… reasons. But still, Bowsette would be a fun side character too
i thought it was a fun and exciting movie but I think puss in boots the last wish is better BUT the Mario show is actually a fun movie. I really loved the movie though it was really awesome and fun
I like to think that Peach's backstory will be revealed as a secondary/tertiary plot point rather than being the main focus. i.e. the second movie can introduce Daisy and unlike Peach, Daisy can remember more about her past and what might've happened
Exactly! Daisy and Peach could be cousins who wandered in the pipes as babies, but were separated. In the sequel, Peach searches for Daisy in Sarasaland after being apart for 20+ years to uncover more about her past.
Also, to be fair Mat, this could be miyamoto's way of actually getting some of the later game lore into the film. Cuz remember from the original Donkey Kong all the way up to Yoshi's Island Mario and Luigi work from Brooklyn. It wasn't until Yoshi's Island that Mario was said to be from the Mushroom Kingdom and this was later further expanded by Mario, DK, Wario, Luigi, the princess and Bowser are all what is known as the star children which explains their immense power within the games themselves. Which could also be a hint to Mario's invincibility inside the Mushroom Kingdom
That could explain why Mario and Luigi looked different from the other kids when they were babies and even a bit different from their own relatives. They were destined for greatness.
Is anyone else thinking about the potential plot the 1-Up green mushroom could have. They showed the blue and red one, but not that one. Knowing that in the games it gives you an extra to your lives count, how it's utilized in the movie will be intriguing. I think it will be like a last resort should someone bit the dust in a battle.
I am very confident that they will connect all the games in a MCU like fashion through the warp pipe technology that is shown in the movie. We see Mario and luigi use it travel to from earth to the mushroom kingdom. So we could see them travel to popstar or hyrule through these warp pipes. I mean peach does say the line "Theres a whole universe out there, with a lot of galaxies" while the clip of mario and luigi plays in the trailer. (Just my theory)
But Nintendo might want Metroid and Zelda for instance to have different art styles from this Mario Movie, which is why they didn’t have Illumination include references to them in this movie yet. And a different artstyle might warrant a different studio, which would make a crossover difficult. I agree that it‘d be awesome though.
im honestly really happy that, not only my favorite theories on game theory, but also the theories on my favorite game, are also some of yours. it means the content i like watching is the content you like making and that means both sides are happy.
I am honestly so glad that you referenced your 2 old videos of Rosalina and Peach, they were actually the videos that I discovered you with and I’ve been a fan ever since, brought back some good memories
I am not a dk fan, but I do agree that the song needs to be credited Edit: before anyone says anything, I don't hate dk, it's just I am not a fan, I didn't grow up with the dk games.
17:41 "Play Kid Icarus on DS" Preach though, Uprising was such a fun and also funny asf experience. Fun gameplay and hilarious meta banter that just makes me laugh as I'm going through the levels. Considering how quirky the game is, I'm depressed it hasn't been remade for the Switch era.
3:25 But... Mario DOES have a bruise after his fight with DK on his cheek. He's holding an ice pack to it and everything! Granted, the bruise doesn't stay for long, but it does exist.
Mario's always been a bit of a bruiser and not afraid to throw hands; he grew up in brooklyn, New York as a utility/contractor/plumber by trade. I'm honestly surprised he didn't turn out a bit _more_ gruff than he is; that's usually a rough life. I guess he stayed a bit soft because he had Luigi to act as a moral compass and keep him from becoming embittered and angry.
Donkey Kong 64 was my childhood. I was even recently showing my wife videos about it a month or two ago because she never played it. One of my favorites and the artists definitely deserve their credit!
the reason mario isn't taking a lost of damage in the DK fight might be because Donkey Kong actually wasn't kidding when he said he let Mario win. He seemed to really enjoy being the center of attention in that fight, and helping win an even bigger one (against bowser) would only make him more popular. When he heard his dad would send the Kong army (and therefore Donkey Kong himself) if mario beat him in a fight, DK might have gone easy on mario so that he could see some real action. It sure didn't seem like there were many fights happening in the mushroom kingdom besides in the arena for DK, and it was pretty clear he liked action.
I figured that Peach's reasoning for accepting Mario's help is because they both had beef with Bowser. And it's not like she immediately accepted Mario as the Mushroom Kingdom's hero; Peach told Mario she wanted to see what he was made of, which led to the obstacle course. Given the fact that Mario did so well for someone who arrived from a different world less than a day ago, Peach saw that Mario would be tough to stop. It only made sense to join forces, especially with both of them looking to protect their own from Bowser. If you ask me, Princess Peach is probably the Aragorn of this movie.

I just realized, the theory about Peach being a Star has been in plain sight this whole time. In Super Mario 64 after Mario defeats bowser, he drops one massive Star, that isn’t considered to be one of the 120 power stars Mario’s collected. Mario takes that Star back to Peach’s castle, and once he releases it, it flies up to the stained glass window of Peach where she rematerializes. We all thought Mario used the power of the stars to set Peach free of whatever prison Bowser trapped her in, but what if Mario was turning her back into a human? My guess is that Bowser probably knew that Peach was a star and figured out how transform her into her true self so that he could use her power to increase his own, and Mario was able to turn her back into a human by retrieving the other stars and defeating Bowser.
I think there's going to be a team up between Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, King Koopa, Sonic, Tails, Dr. Robotnic, Knuckles, Pikuchu, all other PokéMon... I think a lot of all these characters were made movies about to make a Super Smash Bros movie. I've said this since Detective Pikachu and Sonic #1.🤗❤️
As oddly entertaining as a Dry Luigi would have been, Bowser specifically calls out that he's about to make some sacrifices in Peach's honor. Generally, sacrifices involve death.
Yeah, quite a few asterisks on this one. We don't know if becoming drybones is a koopa feature. We don't know if beady eyes as kids represent human, or male, or is just a mario family trait. We have no evidence telling Kid Icarus was the break-through game, only that it exists. The arcade had an alternate version of the Donkey Kong game with a yeti as the bad guy. There is _no reason_ to just assume something similar didn't happen with the Mario franchise as well. Maybe in Mario's native Earth there was a game about, I dunno, a spark called Chip that searched the CPU Kingdom far and wide for a data package stolen by King CMD Prompt, but every time Spark reached the goal there was a guy named Error telling him that the Data Package is on another hard drive. We don't know.
My family and I just watched the Mario movie a couple of days ago, and we loved it! One thing I did mention to them too is that they're trying to bring over 20 years (didn't know it was over 30!!) of Mario stuff within a 2 hour movie, and I think they did wonderfully with it, even with some weird odds in there. I didn't even realize until you mentioned that Mario got bruised up in the real world when he didn't in the other world! I remember seeing this and just kind of thought that dang, Mario is really taking a beating, but I'm glad this was mentioned because it's been on my head since seeing the movie!!
Maybe all the Mario games being omitted in universe is because they just haven’t been made yet. By the end of the movie, he becomes a celebrity of sorts and maybe that inspires the games to be made
"All the other songs have their composers credited!" 1:08 Except for the person that composed the song from Bowser's Fury that got used in the movie. Why has no one brought this up since the movie came out? Edit: The composer Daisuke Matsuoka. Let's give this man some credit. SPREAD THE WORD! Edit 2: Also James Phillipsen!
It clearly has to do with the fact that both songs were directly ported from their source games rather than be new covers of the songs made for the movie, like most of the Mario game songs in the soundtrack.
The whole construction site opening recreates World 1-1 using the real world objects as Mario and Luigi are running through it, from the platforms to the staircase leading up to the pole at the end. Such a cool little easter egg.
Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic knocked it out of the park with this one (besides pacing). This and Night Begins to Shine from TTG really shows their ability to write good action-comedy lol Edit: Teen Titans Go to the Movies was really good too
Hey, the Super Mario Movie just came to Netflix and I decided to watch it again. I then noticed that maybe, just maybe, the super star was meant to be stolen. Think of it. The DK kingdom is the best kingdom so shouldn’t that be the kingdom to hide the super star. The penguin kingdom is the worst, but somehow, they were chosen to guard the super star. Do the penguins have some sort of secret weapon, or was the super star just meant to be stolen?
When I was watching the movie I noticed that at the end when Mario and Luigi were fighting Bowser they both were fighting pretty well. While this makes sense for Mario because he had that training montage, Luigi was stuck in a cage for most of the movie. My reason for this is because Luigi is just better in every way and was only using a small percentage of his power but who knows?
For Peach doing the obstacle course on her first time people seem to think that she did it without any training or practice. She even says the Toads trained her when she os talking about her past. They wouldn't put her on the obstacle course first time. She did it with Mario because there wasn't much time and she needed to see how he was already.
Tbf, she does literally have a line in the movie where she says nobody beats it first try, Mario asks if she did, and she looks away sheepishly implying that she beat it on her first go 🤷
@Raeanna Hoskinson read my comment again. Just because she got it on her first try on the course does not mean she did it without training. You do know that people do not normally train on an obstacle course right? She would have been preparing for it long before she tried it just like she says later on in the fire flower field.
She grew up there; Mario was still getting used to the environment, gravity, atmosphere, and was somewhat emotionally destabilized from all the recent events vs his normally mundane life. In the beginning of the film, he's shown to have *some,* inherent talent for obstacle runs when the plumber's truck won't crank and he gets through that construction site. But like all _Mario_ players in any new game, getting used to the controls and practicing the game is fundamental to success. We also know that while Peach was highly talented, this was _not_ enough to defeat Bowser by herself, since a lot of lives were on the line and she wasn't holding back during their fight aboard the Airship.
@@raeannahoskinson2699 So tbf the complainers don't have a lot of experience doing TRAINING, and finishing the EXAM on the first go. While getting flustered about how the difficulty was actually on the training, not that they're some genius like they kinda accidentally just implied. They'll just double down, that even if they DO have to exert themselves they're great at everything anyway. The difference is calling a test easy for getting an A and feeling embarrassed because you kinda acted like you didn't ahve the trouble BEFORE the exam, only realizing it when being called out. And the other side is getting a B and ACTUALLLY gets offended they're not called geniuses for it. They saw themselves in Mario even though they only imagined the similarity. Probably because they always identify with the one whose name is in the title, even if it's Lord of the Rings. And god save you if you make movie "calling them" a girl: The Legend of Zelda is pushing it.
I just realized that the design of Baby Peach kinda gets in the way with the "bee" theory. It shows that she wasn't a "toadette" who was selected. She was like that from the beginning.
Peach, along with Mario, Luigi, Wario, Bowser, DK III, & Yoshi (as in the main green one playable in the Yoshi games & 64ds) are literally called "Star Children"
@@vallu111 I haven’t played Captain Toad in a really long time, so I’m not sure. To me the way it was animated just looked like the cooking system from Breath of The Wild.
The Mario movie was so amazing, it was funny, beautiful scenery, the music was my favorite (besides the 80s) composers Brain Tyler and Koji Kondo did a great job arranging the music of past Mario games into one incredible OST. I also love some of the scenes like Luigi telling Bowser to his face that says Princesses find his brother attractive and the relationship between Mario and DK was pretty cool. And the Luma seemed kind of crazy lol although Lumas like turning into galaxies so yea makes sense the Luma was nihilistic lol
I have a bit of a large theory about the Denizens of the Mushroom kingdom and why Peach is one of the only human that can exist there indefinitely and it has to do with the Crowns. This obviously extends to Daisy too… but in a way, makes Bowsette canonical.
Basically it’s like Magic Mycelium. The spores and roots of everything that is in close proximity turn things into copies of them. The toads are half turned humans who have spent enough time in close proximity to Goombas that look entirely like Mushrooms. Princess Peach mad a safe haven in the “Mushroom Kingdom with a safe quarantine zone to make sure ve don’t become FULL Goombas. How? The magic of the crown. Remember the crown that started the whole Bowsette thing? What if all crowns in the Mushroom kingdom and beyond negate the effects of the Magic Mycelium. The crown keeps her Human looking, and- by extension, her Toad subjects… so they all plateau at a Toad stage and never progress to Goomba or full Mushroom state. This is also part of my Bowser theory… Bowsette is Bowser’s true form reverted back to before she was turned into a wierd amalgamation of all the underdwellers. Fire Red hair like a fire Spark… A Koopa’s shell… A Spiny’s spikes… Fire Breathing Piranha plant… sharp fangs like a chain chomp… Dinosaur features like Rex. Infected by so many different strains of mycelium from all these different monsters of the mushroom kingdom… Bowser becomes the most powerful of all of them- but in the process forgot what they originally were. Until the Koopa kids there’s nothing like Bowser in the whole world… and it’s pretty hard to imagine a boy dragon/turtle/dinosaur thing squeezing out an egg. Unless Bowser was now both and could do it Asɇхυally, ie: was female, and became more masculine by being around all the turtles and things that are largely male through their mycelium. We don’t see hardly any femme Goombas except for the odd handful, like Goombette in Paper Mario. It’s a sausage fest down there. The obsession with kidnapping Peach every week may not be as romantic as it became, but it might have started from a feeling of “being around this person makes me feel more human” because of the magic of her crown’s proximity effect. Eventually that need for relief from the Magic mycelium could have turned into this wierd feeling of “i have to have peaches! I need her!” And kidnapping her bordered on an obsessive compulsion or addiction. Not knowing her crown was the cure. I mean, doesn’t Bowser seem happier when they’re Bowsette? Are they still trying to kidnap peach? Or are they finally happy and the dysphoria is finally over? It’s almost like that’s the real version that they were all along, or deep down… The Crown is the Key to everything.
6:28 WRONG! There are references to BOTH The Legend of Zelda & Metroid in The Super Mario Bros. Movie! During the News Report with Pauline, one of the headlines references SR-388, one of the planets from the Metroid games . During the Mario Kart Assembly scene, one of the available karts is Link’s Motorcycle from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe!
7:32 Don't forget, Wario and Waluigi would fit great in the Mario movies because Wario is from Germany due to the Mario Party recordings and old Mario Kart recordings, so it would be a perfect fit that the former tennis player, the Frenchman Waluigi, after going bankrupt, teamed up with the criminal Wario. We could make Wario an ex-bank robber, and then have him see the Mario brothers on TV saving the city, and wanting a piece of the action
The funny thing is that MatPat had already theorized that the two were long-lost brothers and sons of Foreman Spike, so imagine they give the duo a storyline where they discover that they are long-lost brothers and confront Spike about his relationship with them, leading to them using their bond as a means to get back at the Mario bros. It also fits a narrative arc about them being so similar to Mario and Luigi, brother bonds and all, but with the core difference of valuing greed and competition over the value of family and sacrifice. Unless of course they do what DreamWorks did with Goldilocks from Puss In Boots The Last Wish and let them develop as caring for each other as family..
I could see wario and waluigi seeing the mario bros being popular and starting their own plumbing company to ride the bandwagon with a get rich quick scheme and then gettin hired to fix some of the plumbing that the warp pipe broke, then they would find yoshi
So in Mario's universe, Kid Icarus and Kid Icarus: Uprising likely have many sequels... That's great to know! Even if it's not in ours I'm glad that series is getting the love it deserves in a world we're aware of.
The fact that Nintendo was able to survive and thrive long enough to get all these franchises into the world without any Mario, Zelda, Metroid or Kirby means that Kid Icarus must have really upped its game with the subsequent sequels.
I think Rosalina might be Peach’s mom in the movies instead of her daughter. Narratively, it makes more sense to have Peach separated from her mother as an infant and then have them reunite in whichever movie they take to space. Other than that I love these theories/observations about the movie! And I still agree the lore of Mario Galaxy implies Peach is Rosalina’s mother, but I just think the movies will take it in another direction.
8:28 Problem there is Peach directly asked Mario if he was human and said she was also human earlier in the movie because she was surprised to see another human.
@Temjin 999 it's pretty easy to tell that your different from the rest when everyone around you are mushrooms Humans have probably accidentally warped into the "mushroom world" since even bowser and the Koopa know what a human is
Hey mat, I have a trifecta theory. Somewhat in relation to the Mario can’t die theory. How many mushrooms both movies and games could Mario actually eat in a day before it becomes lethal? Film, game, food and to spice it up a quad theory with what his clothes must be made of to handle said m/ eaten and m/ ability. Power ups in general.
Not all children lose all of their memories in childhood amnesia. Some memories can be retained, though they are often corrupted. For example I have a memory of painting a picture frame and my mother has corrected that memory for me - it was mascara and a window frame. But, as she can confirm, that event happened when I was 2 years old, my memories just weren't exactly right.
We had other games besides Mario, my son. Spy Hunter, MegaMan, Super Dodgeball, Double Dragon, Shinobi, Ninja Gaiden, Friday the 13th, Jaws... I mean, you didn't even mention Castlevania.
During that scene in the meadow, Peach could have just been saying that she might be from Mario’s world, but it is unknown because “There’s a huge universe out there, with a lot of galaxies.”
I actually just watched this TODAY like 5 hours ago, by far one of the best movies I have EVER watched, loved noticing all the songs and secret easter eggs hidden in the game, like for example in the begginning when they are seeing their ad, there is a guy playing Jump Man, the game that introduces Donkey Kong, and, from what I've heard, that guy is actually THE jump man from the game

I kinda assumed her reasoning was along the lines of "no use refusing a free volunteer!"

The immortality aspect of the Mario world makes Lumalee's desire for death pretty interesting
...and saxophones
I believe that Lumas are obsessed with death because in the games they have to die to create a new planet or galaxy.
Course he’s immortal. Mario got himself lotsa lives YAHOOO
About Lumalee, will there be an origin story for Rosalina?
@@geomania8533 During the scene when Mario and Luigi were using the star, I was thinking about how many extra lives they'd earned.

That is why having the power star is so dangerous.
Or maybe only the inhabitants of it can take damage, and only with a power up
I feel like Peach knows what humans are because the Toads know what humans are.
There just might not be many. And others chose to not stick around the Mushroom Kingdom in particular.
Which could be hinting that Rosalina possibly exists as the 1st human there
That makes sense though 😮

Yeah that’s what I was thinking too when he brought up “peach is a star” thing. It technically already exists because of Yoshi’s Island DS
And DK

You forgot Seth Rogan

I'm suspecting that Peach this time around isn't Rosalina's mother, but in fact her daughter. I know, I know, it's crazy, but it does hold some merit. Stars and moons on her dress, the super-charged pipe, it all makes me think that Peach is Rosalina's daughter this time.
Yes
Peach is neither the mother, nor daughter of Rosalina.
@@catmario-_3170 How you know? You storyboarder?
@@samurexatlas7373 Because literally nothing implies that in the Game verse, let alone the movie verse probably.

I was also thinking that
No you weren't
The reason peach took mario on her adventure is because she's a nice person. That's all the motivation you need, and they also clearly liked mario and felt bad for them, therefor wanted to help them. So theres clearly some motivation to bring Mario there and you can't deny it.
It's clearly obvious. Why did nobody pick that up?
Plus... Mario's like the first human she's ever met, so of course she would want him to stick around instead of running off on his own.

Just hope that she isnt developed in a way that makes matpat belive that she is the sorting hat
Yeah but I hope king boo has his Luigi’s mansion design, in bowsers wedding he was just a big normal boo

Always remember. This is nintendos game they let Sony and Microsoft play it
I highly doubt the one theory about Luigi turning into a skeleton if he fell into the lava, while we see that fire can indeed turn a living thing into a dry bones, when the same skeleton zombies are chasing Luigi in the dark lands, he and the army of undead koopas arrive at one of Bowser's old castle with a lava river, Luigi manages to pass but a lot of the koopas who where chasing after him fall in the lava, we can see how the're getting disolve in the liquid rock and the glow in their eyes turn off, so as fire just burns your flesh but you keep living, falling into lava can be depicted as the "ultimate death"
13:00 I hope we get a theory about Lumalee’s backstory, and what drove him so adorably insane.
She's my favorite character and they did really well on her costumes and design
idk. Something about her just feels _off_ compared to the games

I think the immortality in the Mushroom Kingdom needs to be looked at more in depth, due to the scene where DK almost dies.
Also I don't think the Kongs actually live in Mushroom Kingdom so the fight between Mario and DK doesn't support the theory either.
Maybe they're not immortal but have an incredibly high tolerance for pain?
Also since Mario gets hit while in mini state, he should die from that.
That's just a theory. A GAME... Eh hem..... A FILM THEORY

I don’t know.:
Or they will use a multiverse by NOT having a shared universe.

Preach though, Uprising was such a fun and also funny asf experience.
That’s what I was going to say!
Honestly, if they said the act of existing in the Mushroom Kingdom’s world meant that you had some king of ‘increased defense’, I’d still buy it.
I remember the ice pack, but I don’t recall any bruise being visible. Can anyone confirm if a bruise is visible from the DK fight?
@@shivorath nope, there isn't any bruise there when mario is holding his ice pack
It sure didn't seem like there were many fights happening in the mushroom kingdom besides in the arena for DK, and it was pretty clear he liked action.
fair theory
The ‘DK is a narcissistic’ theory

I figured that Peach's reasoning for accepting Mario's help is because they both had beef with Bowser. And it's not like she immediately accepted Mario as the Mushroom Kingdom's hero; Peach told Mario she wanted to see what he was made of, which led to the obstacle course.
Given the fact that Mario did so well for someone who arrived from a different world less than a day ago, Peach saw that Mario would be tough to stop. It only made sense to join forces, especially with both of them looking to protect their own from Bowser.
If you ask me, Princess Peach is probably the Aragorn of this movie.

Yeah it made it way more climatic.
MATT HAS SEEN YOU
I think there's going to be a team up between Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, King Koopa, Sonic, Tails, Dr.
Also he doesn't know if he would or wouldn't die
Some sacrifices keep the person/thing/animal alive so idk that does raise some questions
By the end of the movie, he becomes a celebrity of sorts and maybe that inspires the games to be made
Very interesting theory

@@Envy_May I did read that. Though it isn't clear how involved in the soundtrack he was. Screw it, let's give him credit too.
@@Envy_May I like your pfp
It clearly has to do with the fact that both songs were directly ported from their source games rather than be new covers of the songs made for the movie, like most of the Mario game songs in the soundtrack.
@@pablomenendez2319 Exactly why they should be credited for composing the music. Not really sure what your point is
The whole construction site opening recreates World 1-1 using the real world objects as Mario and Luigi are running through it, from the platforms to the staircase leading up to the pole at the end. Such a cool little easter egg.
Some of the platforms are from oddessey, making the od. Walk on metal sounds.
Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic knocked it out of the park with this one (besides pacing). This and Night Begins to Shine from TTG really shows their ability to write good action-comedy lol
Edit: Teen Titans Go to the Movies was really good too

He's secretly the one jump man
5:23 Seeing Matpat acknowledging New Rockstars isn't something I knew I needed.
We are technically getting a Film Theory and a Game Theory at the same time and I'm not complaining
If the future Mario Movies don't feature Dimentio as a main villain, I will be mildly disappointed.
This video should’ve started with MatPat singing “Theories, theories, theories theories theories…”
@@adventwolfbane You could be right. And so could I. I was just making sure you understood what he's referencing; I'm not trying to debate you.
I thought about that too.
The damning thing is her arrival from outside the kingdom
I never liked that theory... but I also don't know if the movie is at all canon to the main series.
Peach, along with Mario, Luigi, Wario, Bowser, DK III, & Yoshi (as in the main green one playable in the Yoshi games & 64ds) are literally called "Star Children"
Actually, I’m pretty sure the scene of Toad cooking food was a direct nod to Breath of The Wild.
Actually it was a reference to Monster Hunter
Pretty sure it's more a nod to Captain Toad
It's likely a reference to Captain Toad Treasure Tracker where toad also cooks food in a similar way in the episode 3 intermission cutscene.

Cannot believe MatPat would end a theory by taking a jab at Kid Icarus. Our boy Pit needs all the support he can get.
You mean “attention”, right? That sure helps him, but he doesn’t need it.
Fire Red hair like a fire Spark…
A Koopa’s shell…
A Spiny’s spikes…
Fire Breathing Piranha plant…
sharp fangs like a chain chomp…
Dinosaur features like Rex.
It’s almost like that’s the real version that they were all along, or deep down…
The Crown is the Key to everything.
And let's not forget LoZ's fanfare when Mario has the idea to save Brooklyn towards the beginning.
