2 episodes of Buffy a week?! 🙌🏼 Also, the Giles/Jenny interaction in the beginning of the episode absolutely deserved a high five 💯 #TeamMikey
So pleased with the double weekly uploads. Thank you
Nothing wrong with more Buffy!
Fun fact:- Robia LaMorte, who plays Jenny Calendar, used to be one of Prince's main back up dancers. She was 'pearl' in the duo Diamond & Pearl.
and then she turned weird religious.
I love how when Giles is absent it's Willow's library. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Fun fact: Cordelia's actress was a contender to play Buffy.
Nice touch with the Tuesday throwback. 👍
DOUBLE BUFFY TIME! And boy did this one hurt the guys as they love Miss Calendar...

I love Miss Calendar too ❤ Robia LaMorte (Scott) is gorgeous.
My only problems with this episode is that never before had we seen Buffy exercising to music, doing aerobics or listening to electronic music for that matter, nor had we ever had any idea that there was an exit door to the outside from the library, all of that got added for the plot of this episode. Normally the show is pretty good with forshadowing, but in this case, for the plot to work, we have to not hear the guy banging on that door. Ah well.
Oh, and Buffy turning her back on an obviously untrustworthy Ethan Rayne. 🤦♂️
But on the plus side, a deep dive into Giles' less than savory past... 😎
Thanks for Buffy Tuesdays. Enjoyed your reaction. Ethan Rayne episodes are fun. Looking forward to next week and the two-parter.
Yea! More Buffy! Very fun episode. Just wait for next week . . . .
Yayyyyy! 2 episodes of Buffy per week? You're spoiling us and I love it. 🫶😄
Yay for extra Buffy!
I think you're the only one I've seen that got the guitar reference to Ripper
I think this was of a good, but average episodes of S2, but it is interesting that we gradually getting to see that Giles is much more than he seems. Jenny of course is gradually being brought in more in S2 to enhance the storylines. The Xander/Cordelia constant bickering at this point is driving Willow mad, and she unloads in the library. We have the interminable Ethan Rayne back again, one of the nastiest characters in the show, a real thorn in The Scoobies side. Funny scene when Xander is asked 'did you find anything' and he produces a pic from the 70s of Giles playing bass in a rock band. Better to come in S2, but not a bad episode overall. We can see how much you are really enjoying the show now, it just engrosses all that come across it, mainly due to such brilliant characters everyone can empathise with.
It's wild to see that Giles is a genuine mild manner nerd who doesn't like to fight (so he gets knock out a lot) but when he people he cares about are in danger, the threatening Ripper gets out. I think he got that nickname because he was more intense and probably prone to violence when he was on drugs. And after the mark of Ygon first death, he wanted to burried that part of him so deep it would never get out again. Until Ethen came back to his life.
The discussion about Xander being weird is so funny, knowing he was framed as a hunk in the pilot presentation 😂
Stumbled across you guys because of BSG, but had to check out your Buffy first as it's still my favourite show ever. And in about no time I've caught up with you, and just in time for the era the show initially won me completely over. Will keep up with your viewings, and am excited to watch your reactions coming up, but now I'll watch your BSG stuff....
Thank you so much for joining us ❤️
It's not Sunday. Either there's a special reason or they upped it to two episodes a week. Either way... yea!!!
Two things that would have made this episode obsolet, in-universe: 1. Giles and his friends not having gotten high, magically, speaking, to create the episode's problem 2. Buffy having turned down the music.
I always assume the scene with Cordelia wanting her parking tickets fixed was rewritten because later on she states she knew the police were talking about a homicide, but the cops don't say one word while Cordelia is in the library. In-universe my head canon is she was listening at the door afterwards.
I've never seen anyone recogize Ethan's name from the list (that I can remember) until Mike.
If you think about it Angelus/The Scorge of Europe was the hero of this episode due to Willow also being the hero by going to get him.
They are two small moments, one from this episode and one from the last episode. In the last episode Giles beats Ehan up and he says something along the lines of him thinking The Ripper having been long gone, and in this episode Cordelia asked why Ethan referenced him that way just before Giles turns violent on him and Cordelia realizes why he's named Ripper. So, it seems Ripper is a term gearing itself towards Giles personality when he's angry and violent and that sounds like it means he was like that often in his university-age days if they nicknamed him that.
There acually was a certain number of people who started the ritual who created/brought about Eyghon. Ethan did have to replace somebody with him otherwise it would have to come after him anyway, tattoo or no tattoo. He could have had his tattoo removed years ago otherwise.
What happened to Jenny is directly Giles' fault. I understand her backing off from him at that point. It isn't about it "being real" so much as it's about why it happened to her.
It's not actually sus why Angel is at the blood drive. In the episode _Angel,_ when Darla opens the refrigerator, he has hospital bagged blood in it, and he says "everybody knows about this." Angel currently drinks human blood, just not directly from a human. Personally, I think Buffy suspects, but has never been willing to ask, considering the look she gives him when asking him to return said blood to the hospital.
There can be many reason people are considered unpopular or low on the totem pole in high school. Xander fits the mold by being friends with Willow, Buffy, and Jesse, having a sense of humor none of the popular kids find amusing, and just being teased by popular kids. In high school that's all it takes. It doesn't have to be about being a nerd or geek, so much as people seeing you a certain way or choosing to pick on you.
Thanks for this wonderful comment. The blood bags in the fridge is a good call back....
Also yes. Two a week now!!
Absolutely. Bullies are often (but not always) trying to exercise their own demons & tend to be good enough at reading body language to hone in on people who are already vulnerable, therefor unlikely to retaliate. Others are just predatory, which usually equates to being able to pick out who is an easy target. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
I’m delighted you’re going to a two a week schedule! I knew you’d be upset by this ep, considering Ms Calendar, but that you’d be happy about Willow getting boisterous.
Keep watching, and you'll have a better idea of why Rupert Giles is called "Ripper" by those who knew him when he was young and actively into magick.
First off, Joe twice a week 😍 Buffy twice a week 😍 Best week ever!! These next episodes are gonna be funnnnn
like a Constantine in his youth
Yay!
Thank you for doing 2 episodes a week, especially on this season. Hope you keep enjoying the show.
Yesssss
Welcome to Tuesday. Great talk after and your conversations were similar to ours back in 1997. FYI- by this time the WB had decided to move Buffy to Tuesday. There had been no programming on Tuesday and Buffy ( on the air for less than 6 months) was going to be it. Joss Whedon was concerned and did some rewrites and changed his story sequence so he could make the story work and get the Buffy audience to follow. The next 2 episodes are a 2 parter and then 2 regular episodes. When you get to Episodes 13&14 , those are the night changers. Surprise was the last Monday show with Episode 14,Innocence, the first Tuesday. I only bring this to your attention to your viewing planning.Try to watch 13&14 closely together. We waited a day but as reactors you have options. I don’t know how you watch but try not to have a big gap between Surprise and Innocence. The network would do that junk to the viewers and in later seasons would leave gaps of weeks between episodes
I forgot about the day switch, buffy & Tuesday go together like a duck &......another duck
It's almost as if someone in scheduling didn't understand or like the show so they tried to tank it by moving it to the lowest viewed night they had.
@@joeslater2390 Yes. Whedon was justly concerned, after all Monday was counter programming to MNF, and Buffy was going to a night with no history and go against the hits on the Big networks. He knew if he failed he would be known has a flash in the pan. But if he could get his audience to move to Tuesday and stay for Dawson Creek he could wield power. For the network , they could raise revenues 20% immediately, and have clout in attracting young talent. The success of Surprise and Innocence would be the catalyst for Charmed, Gilmore Girls, Dawson Creek , and the teen/ young adult supernatural entertainment produced the next 15 years. For us it was just great fun but so much more was happening and would happen behind the camera.
@PromptCriticalJello good thing it was fox (to soon?)
@@PromptCriticalJello Add desperation. Imagine a network that was failing and could not even produce profitable content for a weekday night. The WB had no , none, programs on Tuesday. The local affiliates would show movies, wrestling, or something. They had to produce more revenues quickly or the corporate board might shut the network down in a couple of years. It was a Hail Mary. Dawson Creek was a big budget, for them, teen / young adult prime time soap. The network had it premiere after Buffy and if it worked then they could become a home for 14-29 year old target markets. This became the formula for the WB and then the merged CW. Not mass markets but groups that advertising agency and companies love.
I assume you heard the Bay City Rollers joke. A casualty of editing, I guess.
Correct. This one had too many good moments and was the only episode that had given me trouble (I included too much)
@@732ReviewCrew Well you'll never have that problem again. ;)
@@PromptCriticalJello 🤣🤣🤣 ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
I think in general, Angel doesn't really partake of human blood, it would put the feed on him, and he doesn't like that feeling anymore. It might be a little naive of me, but by now that feeling is fleeting, and the guilt he'd feel after isn't worth it. Just my 2 cents on the matter.
Giles is actually playing bass.
When Angel starts, will that take one of these two slots, or two other slots?
It will alternate based on show order! We know that sometimes it doesn't follow 1 angel 1 buffy but yes
@@732ReviewCrew Seasons one and two of Angel aired immediately after Buffy. Then Buffy changed networks. There aren't many crossovers in S2, but the last three seasons are relatively separate.
Must avoid spoilers..........
your pattern recognition is broken....
