Talking about over-complicating stuff. I am a Ugandan filmmaker and I’d never thought about filming the female boxers. Thanks Sam for telling the story.
Love it man, so good and your quote is exactly what I've been doing since I woke up this morning "Every dream starts with the first step". So true, and I've been having a great day. This video helped it and reinforced it!
Just found your channel, I like that its more film focused. Other youtubers call themselves filmmakers but dont actually do docs or shorts. I don't have nothing against that but it can be confusing sometimes.
BOOM! Mark, thanks for the actual helpful tips! You're definitely what I like to refer to as a "Practical Creative". Someone who likes to get stuff done, efficiently, by applying creativity to preparation! Keep up the great work!
Hey Mark, would love to learn more about some safety issues, I am always worried about gear getting stolen, perhaps you could do a video on travels and safety / gear.
Hey Mark, I'm actually preparing for my first project which is a documentary and I would like if you give more details and advice on how to get ready for the shooting
Amazing content my friend! Thank you for share ✌🏼😀 I have a basic doubt, please, what, in your opinion, is the difference between documentary and reportage/news report ? Thanks.
Mark Love watching your channel. I have been looking at creating some short videos for UA-cam but haven't been entirely sure where to start. I was wondering if I pitched some ideas your way if you could give me some ideas as to which way to start.
Mark Bone I have had this idea rattling around in my head for a while and I’m not sure how exactly to start, but the idea is that everyone always thinks of traveling as going to some far away land and exotics beaches. My thought is what about the places in your own “backyard”. I’ve always spun it in my head as a domestic traveler, or a rediscovery of your home. Any thoughts?
Ha! I know right, between Matti, Peter, Chris, Alen and Jesse, there is a lot of us here in the great white north. You already have the right name, maybe it's time for a move
My drone got held up in Uganda too! My fixer helped out a bit which was nice! I dude with a massive AK47 escorted me to the plane to make sure I took it out of the country haha!!
Thing is i don, tthink i can handle youtube. always uploading some content. Isn,t easy at all. It,s quite hard. To be hinest making a full length feature film is easyer. Lol.
@@markbone haha i know I saw your channel before Matti's video. And for just a few days it went to 3,4 K. Of course ti is because of your great work in your videos and Matti's support. !!! :) I will keep watching for sure! :)
Hi Mark, Could you please suggest me a canon camera for Videography? I have canon sl2 but i want to upgrade now. Since i am learning filmmaking so i have to upgrade now. My budget is $1000. Thanks.
Hey man thanks for the video, can you do a video on how to connect multiple external hardware to your camera (such as monitor, mic and a handle)? all the accessory including the handle you mention are fighting for the top of my camera (A7III) . Just saying if you make a video about it I believe it will be helpful to a lot of people
Hey Mark. I have an 80D and I am looking for a flexible lens that I can use for shooting short films. Right now I have a 55-250 and a 6.5 fisheye for filming skateboarding. What lens would you recommend? Maybe under 1000$.
Finn hey Finn! There is no perfect lens for short films, what lens you chose depends on the script and content. That said, your 80D is a APS-C sensor so it’s cropped. You might want to consider either a 24mm prime (full frame so it becomes roughly a 40mm) or a 35mm that would become roughly a 55mm. Or my one of my all time favourite zoom lenses the 24-70mm. With a crop sensor camera you might even consider a 17-40mm) it’s important you try some of these and see how they feel!
@@markbone Thank you for replying! I will definitely check out your suggestions. Do you have an opinion on the sigma 17-70mm? Seems to good to be true for 500$. Thanks.
You are just some days aways from millions subs sir! Well I have xt3 bought after seeing you bio ! I have 18-55 , 35mm and 85mm 1.4. I am confused what should I buy an ATOMOS ninja 5 or a drone ! Please help!
Bharat Tanwar it depends what you want to do And what line of work you’re in. You’ll have ninja for a long but there is always need and fun drones coming out. Maybe wait until after NAB to see!
I have no money, no people i know or what so ever. So... I want to know how to get the story out once it is done, specially wuen you know noone and have no money.
Hey Mark, Loved this video. I'm at a bit of a crossroads and this is the general direction I've been leaning towards. I wondered if you might do a video about what to do with these special interest videos once they're finished? Like, do you just chuck them up on youtube and keep chugging along, eventually adding stuff to your reel? Just wondering what the game plan is when you're starting from scratch? I've been in film since 17, I'm 30 now. Won a few awards for my narrative animated film ( ua-cam.com/video/9hCenWxs6NQ/v-deo.html ). Took a break for a while because of narrative industry politics, and now want to come back independently. I'm less interested in scripted drama, and more on showing interesting truths and real stories (micro documentaries). In addition, when I have a camera again I'm going to start a vlog. Thanks again, big inspiration, will keep watching.
Errr Um I Think I’m gonna go ahead and shoot my first short film I’ve already started writing the story but I’ve never wrote a script I have a good background for the story just I need to figure out how the hell you write a script lol
Hey Mark, thanks for all your tips, wanted to know if u had any recommendation for a vintage prime lens for a7iii (looking for a 50 or 85 or 100mm macro) thx
Man, not to have negative feelings towards this video, but every transition when you twist the camera diagonally and spiral it downward or upward got old after the 3rd time. Use it tastefully and not every time. Good content though, on the upside of things.
I have loved your content in most of your stuff but right at about 8 minutes it's grossly obvious that you've seen too many Peter McKinnon videos. Do you man. It's hard to watch people mimic other people. I am a subscriber and I will continue to be. Just a suggestion. Much love and your work is great and inspiring.
Mark, You have a top 5 youtube channel. If you ever doubt it, don't. You are putting real information out here for filmmakers.
Brian Dent thanks Brian!!
THIS has honestly become my favorite YT channel.

Great advice as always.

This is my first time watching your videos, but it seems like this video title should specify documentary movies. Am I wrong?
Reached out to a celebrity portrait photographer - he's shot some super famous people - he called me and we had coffee! Unreal.
