@@tacpahdza he used iphone 15pro or max, that thing has log. it's just not in the same ballpark as ordinary iphone15. the video is seriously misleading. You can't get the dynamic range and grading flexibility with non log footage. You can get good footage but him saying "you don't need good gear" and then using A PHONE THAT HAS LOG FOOTAGE is just hands down misleading.
Great clip. The key to this is that you actually KNOW what you bare doing. Every shot is part of a plan and has an internal idea. That will always give an edge. "Shallow DOF" and "Cinematic" is nothing. The thinking behind what is going on and what is showed in the scene is what makes it work.
Small thing I learned from this. Make up isn’t just an aesthetic. It can be an active member of the scene. The bandages never bothered her a bit, they just passively sat on her face. Also, there’s a bit of a disconnect between shot selection. The wide and escalator shots are on sticks and the actor’s expression in them is a 4-5 on a level of disorientation, and ends on a movement (her walking out of frame). We jump to her not moving and appearing more drunk than she was in the previous shot, and then to her looking more panicked than drunk in next shot. Similarly, the camera angles and movement aren’t telling the same narrative. The steadiness of the opening shots and then jumping into handheld split the narrative in 2 emotions, and the acting discrepancies divides that even further. It was a tad difficult to grasp what I was looking at without actually being told that she’s suppose to be drunk. Things I liked… haha..the footage, and makeup looks great! And you guys did a phenomenal job for 2-4 people. Thank you for putting this out and making us all better. ❤

Great video anyways!
I mean... I do agree that framing, good ideas and a simple good light placements can go a long way. But your film still feels very low budget at the end of the day. A good kind of low budget, but still a low budget film shot in iPhone
Great video. Just one detail tho, you should specify that you are using the iphone 15 PRO and not the regular 15. The difference in camera setup between the two is massive. The 15 Pro has all the cinematic bells and whistle: Bigger sensor, ProRes, Apple log etc.. So far I've never seen any creator who makes camera content with the regular 15.
I think that the reason because the reflection shot stands out more, as you said, is bc is given a motivation for the light source. All the others felt like, well… if someone was hanging a light on her face… So hard to sell a light this small and this close as if it was a real source. The closest you are the more you percive its decay and the faker it feel.

Love love love seeing the process as you make this it's so helpful! You should do more videos like this using phone camera's and showing the filmmaking process as you go!
For me it's the escalator shot, I love how it's framed to cut into the character when she reaches the top. One of my loves in filmmaking is capturing the texture of things, I would have approached it with a little more focus on the grooves of the steps.
If you added a shot here 8:40 where she hears some noise, thinks somebody is chasing her, she being suddenly lost or super far away from home.... it will motivate much more the next shots and anxiety and get them purpose in my opinion
How amazing and how much fun to shoot with such a simple portable setup. Lately I am finding myself willing to experimenting with lighter setups too as it leaves so much room for improvisation and fun
Excellent video, it shows indeed that not the budget of the equipment is important but rather the skills and the post production afterwards. And it shows that german train stations are indeed a nightmare for tourists.
I do agree 100%. If you have a good eye for lighting and angles, it doesn't matter which gear you're using. Just a few professional or highly amateur filmmakers say, "Nah, it's not a good camera, lighting..." But if you achieve production company levels, viewers won't notice which camera or gears they're using. Just learn basics of composition, Lighting, camera settings, editing, step by step and enjoy the your creativity at the sametime.

You're a great videographer but an iPhone is not going to replace a dslr or a hybrid cam. Missing some shallow depth of field here and more. To be honest, on a budget I would get a phone that coast me 250 Box and a Panasonic GH5 camera 2.hand for 500 Box. And you still save some money for lighting gears instead buying an iPhone 15 Pro for filmmaking. Real talk
But if you have a good phone which you need anyways you can just pay a little extra when you switch phones for an iphone 15 pro and that is way less money than the setup you mentioned. Lets be real getting into videography can be done on an iphone and ofc later you are gonna buy a camera , we are not replacing professional equipment here.
I agree that it wouldn’t replace things, but honestly the quality coming out of my phone has been very impressive and when I’m packing light I have opted to take 1 body and my iPhone instead of 2 bodies and extra glass. I need a phone anyway, so I just upgraded a bit more
@@poti732 yes I agree with you. Everyone has different point of views. :) I just gave my opinion. Of course you can make great stuff with just a phone but if you want to start deep diving into cinematography and getting serious about it, there is no other way around to start learning the basics at least. My last Iphone was the iPhone 12 pro max. My battery is almost death today and it always over heat's. I didn't want to upgrade to a 15 pro after using Iphones since 14years. So I bought a new 250box phone and it's doing great. It never over heat's, the battery last for ever and for social media it works smoothly. The only downside is of course the camera. But I don't care because I only use my pro cam for my UA-cam videos and social media. But that is my personal choice. Everybody has he's own :)

Any chance you can do more projects on iphone? I feel like no matter how much searching I do, I can never find good examples of actual short films on iphone. From a budget stand-point, I'm really curious to see what iphone and a few additional things like small lights, lenses and gimbals can do. It would be awesome to see someone set a standard on mobile.
iPhone’s are $500-$1000 and that light is $200. Filmmaking wise it’s a small budget but a lot of money for the actual average person. That doesn’t even take into account having a computer to edit on and software to do it with. Add onto that the time cost it takes to film, edit and to learn all of it, time which some people can’t spare so freely. Yes it’s possible, but a person has to be extraordinary to do it. Sometimes budget just is an issue. It’s a great thing to show people how to shoot on a budget, how to be smart with lighting and show places in the real world which can serve as potential sets. Creativity brews from limitations and not everything has to look perfect or ‘professional’. It’s a shame to tell people that they are to blame for their situation. To remind them that they don’t have enough time to learn filmmaking nor the monetary leeway to practice it.
Skill does indeed matter, but so does your budget. Let’s be real here. If you have a script/idea that needs a budget, but you shoot it with no gear or crew, then you just ruined your project.

2:30 brother, is that tai lung!!! bro was going super saiyan
I don't have the budget for an iphone :)

I hate the way the Christopher Doyle isn’t mentioned when it was his genius.
Love the title.
Composition and post editing has to be on point 👉
the video is so good well done guys👏🏻 it's just the music wasn't suitable
I was heavily critiqued the other day when I said skill matters and camera is just a tool. Here your video proves it.
Everyone definitely has their own opinion but I feel even though gear ofc limits you, technique still goes a massive distance
Skill does indeed matter, but so does your budget.
Let’s be real here.
If you have a script/idea that needs a budget, but you shoot it with no gear or crew, then you just ruined your project.
the sighs felt over board lmao no shade
