Fly fishing for trout, fly fishing for Cutthroat in the Pacific Northwest has been a passion of mine for the last 40 years. I have spent most of my life fly fishing the great Pacific Northwest to include fly fishing in Alaska, fly fishing in Washington, fly fishing in Oregon, fly fishing in Idaho and fly fishing in Montana. I generally will fly fish and practice catch and release when fly fishing for trout, but I have been known to catch and cook during camping trips to many of my favorite fishing spots. I love to fly fish lakes in the higher elevation, though I have a few lowland lakes that are fly fishing only that are also on my most favorite list. I have a ton experience fly fishing rivers for trout and always enjoy discovering new rivers to fly fishing in and around the greater Pacific Northwest. I am also an accomplished at casting a fly rod - whether it is fly fishing casting for distance, fly fishing casting for accuracy, the double haul, roll cast, tower cast and many more fly fishing casting techniques - I can show you the basics when it comes to casting a fly rod. I also will cover many topics that relate to getting started with fly fishing. From your basic fly fishing setups, flies and fly boxes - we cover all the fly fishing needs for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to tune into FlyFishDan and I hope you consider subscribing to my fly fishing channel. Cheers and FISH-ON!!!

Dan you are the man!
Wow, I never thought I'd ever have net envy! Great tutorial mate.
Thanks 👍
Best fly fishing youtube channel ever
Wow, thanks!
Great video - thanks for all the effort. I cracked up when I got to the part about what gear you need as a beginner. Dumping the contents of the gear bag on the table was hysterical! That was me when I first started.
Thanks for taking the time to watch this long one! :))
One of the best informational crash course segments out there. 👍 👍 👍
Thanks! I appreciate that :))
An amazing compilation of your past educational videos. Thanks for sharing your Pro Tips Dan!!!
My pleasure!
Hey Dan, thank you that finger roll tip worked great for me. Awesome!
Downstream presentations can be best because trout prefer to eat sculpin head first due to their spines. Winter time it can be about downstream casts and slooow swings :)
Thanks for the tips!
Nice Dan,thanks for doing a compilation video. Very effective one stop shop of ideas 👍. Btw, I bought a holiday setup of Dryft Waders you represent. Thank you for being the brand ambassador for a great family owned business out of Washington.
My pleasure and that's awesome to hear! I am thrilled to be connected with DRYFT - great company for sure. Cheers!
That so awesome thanks Dan
Thanks for taking the time to watch, I know this was a long one!
This is my new favorite channel

Awesome! Thank you!
Hey Dan ! Thanks for the great vids. I appreciate all the simple tips for a beginner like me. Just nice getting tips and tricks from a down to earth regular guy.
Well wishes with your channel and adventures.
Thanks John for taking the time to watch, I do appreciate it!
Your segments on how to and why could not have been explained any better then how you have. I am a Saltwater fisherman and i am in the market to purchase a SW Fly Rod 8-9 weight 9 footer and i have made up my mind of what make and model i want and the same goes for the Reel. Thanks.
You bet and thank you for taking the time to watch. Cheers!
Today was day two fly fishing. I’m hooked!! Two fish day one; one today 🎉
Nice!!
Thank you! A lot to remember, I am excited to get out there and yell, fish on!
You and me both!
Very, very very nice video.🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠Hlavně ten začátek a konec jak sedíš u toho ohně.😁😁😁 Jinak samozřejmě nádherné video, nádherné ryby. Kdyby to šlo měl bys to někde opravdu vyučovat 😍😍😍
As someone who came from bass fishing i can promise you ive never overlooked the shore line 😂
I'm 83 years old and have a real problems pinching the leader into the Thingamabobber indicator. Any tricks? I have a tippet rings at the end of my leaders so I can't use a single thread in and out trick. You are a great teacher! Thankyou for your great props!
Thanks Tom, I would check out OROS indicators. They are round in shape and the line simply is placed down the center of the indicator and the two half spheres screw together. Hope that makes things easier!
New sub I've not been fly fishing yet can't wait too try uk Dan here ha
Nice! Thanks for being a part of my channel!
Remember when Fly Fishing and wading in the water move slowly as to not scare the fish
love the music
Hey Dan - thanks for all the great videos! Curious about the status of your trailer: having had a trailer for many years, fire was always in the back of my mind.
Thank you! It's in the hands of Jayco at this point...hopefully they will step up and do the right thing!
So I live in Florida and I started fly fishing back in June and I don’t have a lot saltwater flies and the only shop on the island I live on is like very expensive like 3 flies for 30 bucks so basically 10 dollars a fly. I do have a lot of freshwater flies tho. Would freshwater flies work in like a brackish water creek?
Jenny convinced me to subscribe. LMAO
Not many pick up on that reference :)). Welcome to my channel!
We refer to a varied strip as consistent inconsistency
Great video! One question - when you buy a 9ft tapered leader, do you add a couple of feet of tippet at the end of it right away? Or do you wait until the tapered leader gets shorter and then add a tippet to get it back to 9 feet again? Just a bit confused whether just the tapered leader, or leader + tippet needs to be around 9 feet long.
Typically, I am fishing just the 9' tapered leader. I will add tippet when I begin to shorten the leader through tying on different flies throughout the day. Sometimes, if I need to get down deeper under the indicator, I will tie on 3 feet to the end of the 9' tapered leader to reach down a bit deeper. Cheers!
@@FlyFishDan cheers, that makes sense!
Thanks for the video, Dan. I didn’t get there explanation on balanced leeches. I backed up the video a couple of times, but I didn’t get the explanation. Are you saying you use two leeches instead of one??🤷🏼♂️
Hello👋 I just had a question do huge trout from lakes like wolly buggers?
They absolutely do!
What kind of carport is behind you storing your camper trailer? I am in the market for something. That one looks good.
Thanks! We built that 40 years ago - today the kits are pretty light weight.
Hey Dan can’t find where we can become members. Also do you do vacation packages to spend time with you? Can’t wait for winter to be over and get going with this new passion. Cheers

I say avoid tripping in the first place
Why grab a beer? Let's grab a pole and go fishing
Well said :))
Unless you started fly fishing when you were 1, you look too young to have been fly fishing for 40 years!
Oh, and great info!
Thanks! I’m in my mid 50’s! :))
WTF is a balanced leech?
Invented by a guy in Spokane WA - one of the deadliest wet flies out there today!
@@FlyFishDan why is it called balanced VS just leech
