Both, both is good, These two companies not only produce trucks or vans, but also produce buses, trolleybuses and railbus parts (engines, etc.) Mercedes Benz is also known as the oldest luxury car brand, while MAN is known for trucks and buses
Fuso 4M40/4M50 (Canter), 6M60 (Fighter), 6M70 & 6R10 (Super Great) are the most reliable Fuso engines when they were partly owned by Daimler A.G. Currently, Fuso markets latest engines for Actros-based Super Great way back 2017 with their upgraded 6R20 heavy engine, while they also later introduced their small but fuel efficient 6S10 engine. The new Fuso Super Great has Mercedes Arocs headlamps, and its interior on their instrument panel is obviously almost the same as the New Actros, only differs is that its redesigned info display in Japanese. While Fuso 4P10 (for Canter introduced in 2010) on the other hand, is based from Iveco F1C, its reliability failed compared to its leading engine rival, Isuzu 4JJ1 for Isuzu Elf 6th gen. in 2006.
I would lean more towards the MAN as I drive a new one now and I like the addional feature of the engine brake automatically cancelling when the accelerator is pressed because sometimes it just makes it that little bit easier when turning corners as you don't have to do as much all at once meaning you have a little bit better control of the truck. The only downside I can see about the MAN truck is the mattress on the bed isn't very thick so it can be uncomfortable at times. The merc on the other hand I drove a new one of those and I wasn't impressed with the pulling power as it seemed very sluggish in all round like when setting off at traffic lights by the time it has found the power the traffic lights had changed again so the only way you was ever getting through them was if you was already first at the white line. If mercedes managed to rectify this problem I'm sure they would be great as the interior is fancy and nice looking along with the exterior but when it boils down to pulling power that's where it lacks unfortunately so I would say the MAN is better in my opinion.
The first generation of the Actros were introduced in 1996 the pulling power was way better because there was not so much electronics and AD Blue crap involved to control fuel consumption. Those trucks accelerated like a race car. I frequently picked them up in the Wörth plant as my company back then was one of three in Germany which had the test versions of each new Modell. I remember to pick up the first 500 HP Actros . Man that kept going like crazy. Now i am driving all brands trucks since almost 20 years all over the US and Canada and they are very sluggish, too. It is sad s... with all this fuel consumption monitoring. Still overall it makes way more fun to drive here than overseas. Greeting to all truckers in Germany.
@tomh9807 yeah the company I work for here in the uk have had many of their actros break down due to the dpf system failing as alot of the roads where we are based are limited to 50mph so unless we are on the motorway we can't run them at full chat to be able to get hot enough to regenerate so instead they get clogged up with the carbon and break down unfortunately. All this emissions crap just ruins the reliability of the modern motors I think 😅
@@benji3971 Yes i agree totally with you. But that s...t causes problems with trucks of all brands even here in North America and around the world. It's all a money grab and makes trucks in general unnecessary expensive and unreliable in the long haul. Greetings to the UK.
@tomh9807 oh yes gone are the days of building things to last anymore which is a shame because not everyone can afford nice shiny new trucks and I'm not sure about where you are but here in the UK alot of the smaller haulage firms have closed down due to our economy after covid as everything has rocketed up in price so when you take running costs and things like that onto account most of the time they are lucky to make any profit on jobs. Greetings to North America
I‘m a truck driver and used to change the truck I have to drive weekly. MB, MAN, Scania, Renault, aso. I think some features are better engineered by MB but my heart belongs to MAN! Additionally I must detect that the product quality of MB compared with the price not match. Especially in the long term.

Well, I will admit Mercedes has more of a brand reputation across. I also know they tend to be more expensive and take longer to get parts for when they break. ( at least they do in North America). Meanwhile, MAN tends to be more reliable and hold up better than Mercedes. In Fact Fendt tractors, which also sold in North America and have MAN Motors Tend to be the most reliable and hold up quite well. Meanwhile, a Mercedes motor 😱😱. They're a mechanics nightmare. When I had to take my final test to get my Class B CDL, the vehicle we were using had a Mercedes diesel engine in it. And oh boy was I thrown for a loop. As the trucks I was using before the test had Cummins motors. So I almost failed my hands-on exam. See, unlike the Cummins motors, which have everything in an easy to figure out format. Mercedes diesels has everything all over the place. So if you're unfamiliar with Mercedes diesels, you're going to have a fun time figuring out where everything is located. In stark contrast to the MAN, which is much simpler. So if I had to buy a truck to do my job, I'd go with the MAN.
At the company I work, we have Mercedes (now mp4 1848, 5 years ago mp4 1863 and mp3 1860 10 years ago) NEW MAN (and DAF XF106), I drive the Mercedes, and I love it more then any other trucks, the interior is WAY MORE BETTER in Mercedes, and it looks better too then MAN, but the Mercedes trucks are almost reached 1 million KM so I have to drive MAN or DAF. :(
