I am pleased that Brendon Snyder is now joining the SOT family. Good guy with excellent taste in music.
I think Brendon absolutely belongs here. Love him and sot. I’ve wanted this collaboration for ages! Brilliant! 🤘
Thank you Patrick! I’m grateful that Pete asked me to join him on this super fun topic.
@@BrendonSnydergreat channel content. My ears love it, wallet not as much lol
Great watch, two very knowledgeable guys sharing their great love of my favourite type of music.
Have you still got your cat Brendon??
Great to see brendon join the sot community he will be a great addition
Thank you Neil! I appreciate the support!
so would Anthony!
@@BrendonSnyder will you get the who's next boxset the 10 disc version is expensive in my opinion
Great to see Brendon and Pete together, two of the best in music content!
Welcome to SoT Brendon! Nice to see the two of you doing a show together.
Thank you Scott! I’m glad to be here.
Happy to see Pete and Brendon doing this discussion! I could see Brendon doing Curse of the Collector for sure.
Thanks Mel!
oh ya
I’m so glad that Pete has finally put Brendan Snyder on his channel. Brendan has an incredible collection and is extremely knowledgeable about his music and collection. Also great to see Scott on from the Prog corner as well. Hopefully scott will become a regular now on sea of tranquility in the Prog seat. And hopefully Brendan has at least earned a spot on the Hudson valley squares, the curse of the collector or any other sea of tranquility series!
Here’s hoping both Scott and Brendan join the sea of tranquility team !

Excellent! Good person to have on the channel. I have been a subscriber to Brendon's channel for a few years now. I hope you continue to collaborate and grow both channels.
Thank you Jonathan!
Love Brendon's channel. His "music round-up's" and "visit to the local stores" episodes are a real treat, and he always has a kind word for his viewers.
Cheers.
I actually stumbled across Brendon’s UA-cam channel a month or so before finding SOT on UA-cam at the beginning of the pandemic. So glad to see him on SOT!
I actually used the lockdown time during the pandemic to really focus on building my channel. Maybe the only positive that came out of the whole pandemic. But I’m glad you found my channel and it helped you through.
Two guys who love music with a passion cheers for this great show always interesting to hear Pete and Brendon.
I knew Pete and Brendon would hit it off together once they got together and started talking collecting music. I also knew that Brendon would bring something very special to SOT channel. I watch SOT and Brendon's channel "All the damn time" everyday. This is an amazing video with incredible content. Hey, bands time to listen to this video when you want to create a successful SELLING box set. I really hope Pete asks Brendon to come back on SOT again!! Brendon would be great on Curse of the Collector series.
Great show, guys. Enjoyed it immensely! Happy and surprised to see Brendon on SOT!
Two of my favorite UA-camrs in one video! I'm here for it.
Thank you Chris! We both appreciate the support!
Pompeii is in the Early Years box in the Obfusc/ation set. Meddle 5.1 is what was left off at the last minute, but still extractable with a computer
Awesome seeing you guys hooking up, Brendon is a class act, always brings quality content! Talking about quality: Jethro Tull is the prime example how to do (box)sets. Those who know can only agree. Benchmark stuff.
I concur with the Tull boxes... ;-)
Thanks, we certainly had lots of fun as you could see. Boy did we geek out 😂
Well this is a huge surprise, looking forward to this interview. Brendon has a great UA-cam channel as well I’ve seen many and love his album collections!
Glad it’s made you excited! We had lots of fun. I hope you do as well while watching.
SoT is expanding, including Brendon is a nice addition. Great talk on boxsets. I think Jethro Tull 's boxsets are the best as well as Marillion. I have all Floyd's boxsets. They are my favourite band. The Immersion ones are the best.
Great to see Brendon here as well! Phil :)
The two most eloquent and knowledgeable music collectors on UA-cam together in one video? Instant like!
WOW. Brendon is a hit! This already has 11,000 views! Keep up the good work you two. Hope to see Brendon very soon, you’re awesome!!!
Wow! What a great surprise, Pete, to see this collaboration with you and Brendon. Watching it now and it's great as usual. So nice to see the unity and friendship that our music brings to people. Brendon's channel is awesome as well and seeing you two geniuses together is very cool. Kudos to you both!
Been following Brendon for awhile now. He is great, personable, and responsive to fans. His music news and album release videos are a must watch for any music collector. I was telling my wife I wish you guys would do a video together, and here it is! Thanks guys this was great and I learned a lot!
As for the nutzo ROLLING STONES box set of 45 discs, I would suggest to do what I've done several times, when it comes to the content of "difficult" sets like this.
If you still have the ability, simply make a little set of CD-Rs that contain say 17-22 tracks each, as to save yourself from all the inconvenience.
I guess, in this insane case, that would still turn out to be 9 or 10 discs (usually much less), but then you can at least listen to all the material in a much more relaxed/laid-back manner, and you wouldn't have to take any of those 45 separates out at all. -- save for enjoying the artwork.

Recently discovered Brendon's channel and am so happy to see him doing a show with Pete. This is awesome!
What an unexpected episode! Two of my very favourite youtubers together! It is almost like UA-cam Christmas to me! Thank you good people you make my life a little better.
Time well spent. So thought provoking, yet the video was over with before you know it. Don't know if you could do a Part 2, due to the material matter, but I would think it could be as interesting to watch. Both of you being extensive media collectors, definitely adds to it. Thanks for sharing.
Wow what a nice surprise to see you two team up! Great episode!!!
It's good to see you two working together. You have a good rapport and similar tastes in music, and are both avid collectors. I look forward to seeing more in the future.
I watch Brendon's channel too 😊 He would be good guest on "The Curse of the Collector" 😎👍
Trust me I feel that curse all the time! Haha 😂
Interesting show. Personally I am not a collector of box sets, but some are very tempting when done right.
Great to see you two together, Brendon is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet and is the KING of melodic rock, great show and lets have more from Brendon
I am really enjoying these two person shows with Pete and other UA-camrs on specific topics. I would like to see more shows like this.
Awesome! This is the dream dynamic duo! Thanks for joining forces, guys!
I know this guy personally. He is a great guy and huge music fan like myself. Great get for the channel Pete. Never go wrong with Brendon.
I just discovered Brendon more recently and have really enjoyed his content. This was a long video and I wasn't sure if I could make it through, but I had some time to kill today so I watched it all and really enjoyed it. I am also a box set enthusiast. Kudos to both of you for an excellent, informative video.
Great episode! Great to see you guys together
Two of my favourite youtubers together at last! Yes, more of these, please!
Brendon is a really good find for me, seems like a really good guy. And thanks for having him on, would enjoy seeing more of these team ups.
Great to see Brendon on with you. You guys are my 2 favorite UA-camrs. Best sources for new and old music.
Love the natural flow of conversation and intellect with theses two ❤🎉
This was awesome! You and Brendon have great chemistry! Can't wait to see you two collaborate again one day!
So good to see Brendon on SoT! I hope there will be a lot more shows with him in the future!
Peter we want more of Brendon! Terrific
Yes I agree that it was great to see Brendon and Pete together talking about what we like or dislike about cd box sets. I hope they will do another video together. Take care
I love that Byrds box set. In fact just this morning I listened to the 3rd album, 5th Dimension. Another one similar to that is Steppenwolf: Magic Carpet Ride, ABC Yrs ’67-71. I also have that Springsteen The River box set. Love it.
Can't go past some classic Byrds. Now and again when in the mood I will delve deep.
Worlds collide! My two favorite channels combined!
Watching you both discuss this subject, i couldn't help wish I was in on the discussion too. Boxed sets can be really great but even some of the best of them can skimp on some minor but still important details. In my mind I was pulling out my big ELP "Fanfare" boxed set as an example of both great but could've been better. I hear you about oddly shaped packaging, missed opportunities - what were they thinking? I personally don't mind the 'long box' or 'digi-book' style boxed set. I have been able to accommodate them both however and there have been some wonderful sets released. I just wish they'd been consistent with their height &/or style. There's the example of Paul McCartney's wonderful archive series going from a nice, simple but classy hard cover book format for the initial 3 releases to a box of similar height & style but with the addition of nice (but 'not really' necessary) extras. This changed the game and each part of the series seemed to get thicker in girth, with additional books etc., and with that, more expensive. You guys may have inspired me to do a follow up video on this subject. This was an enjoyable one guys. Congratulations, great work. 😊
Great topic. Somewhat of a box set collector myself. Box sets I love the most are the King Crimson big sets. Where they have the albums, on CD, DVD and Blu Ray along with about 20 CDs of live concerts.
As of today my two favorite box-sets I own are The Beach Boys' complete "Smile" sessions and Elton John's "Jewel Box". Both sets have excellent content, in which there is tons of music that has been unavailable until now, and has been remastered. There is lots of great memorabilia and excellent liner notes on all of the tracks, which are well catalogued in the booklets. And the packaging of both sets is superb; the CDs are so easy to access without causing any damage. You can tell that great care was given by both the artists and their production teams into making these box sets.
Those are both very good boxsets!
@@BrendonSnyder i am very late to this! But what is your opinion on the Metallica Deluxe Box Sets? I got The Black Album box set, it's 6 LP, 14 CDs, 4 DVD I believe? Got a nice fat book too! AND they add a digital download card in there for ya... maybe it's my superfan bias though, so I'm curious if you have an opinion :))
I absolutely loved this episode! You two do great together, and I look forward to more of these! 😁
I love the Elton jewel case and David Bowie"Toy'. Love seeing Pete with Brendon doing music reviews. My favorites!
Must admit I love a box set. My personal favourite is the Cash Unearthed with 4 discs of unreleased material, plus a best of 5th disc of the released albums, also a great book with it. Love the show guys.
Sometimes it seems to take a while for new guests to find their feet, but Brendon had great chemistry with Pete from minute one. Needs to be a regular!
Great discussion! Thanks for sharing your opinions. You two make a great duo.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it Andy!
Awesome, great you had Brendan on Pete, he’s great and as everyone says he is very knowledgeable about music 😀 Rock on! 🤟
Thanks Lucus!
Great show as expected! Good to see Brendon finally in SOT!!!!
Phil Aston Villa would've been great for this too he does great reviews of box sets. Will be watching!
I’d love to do another one of these with 2 or 3 others joining and get a real sort of round table discussion going. Maybe not speaking about specific selected boxsets but talk about the industry, what’s working and what’s not. Could be a cool follow up video.
That would be cool I'd like to see that too. Nice job!
Great episode. The Doors have box sets I think can fit in both categories. For best, the NYC 1970 shows box, excellent material and packaging, for worst the 1997 career spanning box set, it has some interesting material but also some real WTF choices.
Brendon is a walking encyclopedia of popular rock and prog and although he and I diverge in taste our reasoning in our tastes is very similar. I'm glad he's getting more exposure with you. You two guys have so much it puts mine to shame, especially box sets because I've never had the money to do it. I always enjoy yours and his shows.
Congratulations to both of you. You guys make a great team!!!
Bringing in Brendon is a great addition. I'm all for more collaboration with him.
This was almost like a comic crossover event, a dream team of two hosts from two separate worlds. lol
I thoroughly enjoyed the show. SoT has needed a shake-up of late, and this "special event" was the tonic.
Great content displayed by greater company.
Wow thanks for the fantastic complement and very cool reference! Glad to hear you enjoyed our collab so much.
The surround sound disc is THE main reason to buy these box sets. I realize that not everyone has the equipment to take advantage of it but it offers such an improvement over stereo. You will hear things you have never heard before.
Agreed, I love surround music
Excellent video discussion: really interesting topics, great taste on both sides and highly well informed you two are. It was a pleasure to listen to your conversation! Long live the box sets😀
It was certainly a fun topic. So many great boxsets from so many of our favorite bands it was super hard to choose. We problem could have covered twice as many if we wanted 😂
Excellent episode! I love and hate box sets haha. Currently anxiously checking my mailbox for the new Little Man box from Cardiacs.
Great to see Brendan on SOT! 2 great music minds.
Brendon I have caught his channel and have liked and loved content he has had. Good to have him come on with you. There is real good box sets and bad ones. Given what the companies wish to provide you with, I love as to along some I see of what is offered. Hard to have as many as to small place I have. So space is always a concern. If not live to catch replay. Welcome Brendon good to see you. I joined your channel.
Great show guys, very cool to see Brendon here 🙂
Great to see you guys doing a video together. Hope to see more like this in the future.
Great to see Brendon on the roster..love lots of his shows.welcome!!
My problem with some box sets is how many times can you buy the same thing!
That kills me too! I’ve had to stop buying some boxsets and deluxe editions for just that reason. Only so many editions that I can own of one album.
Wauw!! Two of my UA-cam heroes finally chatting together 🙌🏻♥️🎸🇺🇸
Cant wait to see Brendon make an appearance on the squares! Think you'd fit in with them well!
Thanks Eddie! It would be lots of fun I’m sure!
Another great video, Pete. I am a box set collector and one of my pet hates is when an artist releases box sets of all there studio albums over a peroid of time and changes the format halfway through the project. Marillion are a perfect example of this. When they first started doing box sets of their EMI era albums in 2017, the first one included the bonus tracks from an earlier remaster on a cd but all the other ones since have included this on the bluray disc instead. Only two of the box sets included a track by track analysis on the bluray aswell.
The Tull and Marillion boxes are among the best available. They score very high in terms of content, packaging and price. I have a row on a bookshelf devoted to the Tull and Marillion boxes and they look like a collection of hard cover books all in a row. The recent Ultravox deluxe editions of Vienna and Quartet score high on content and price, but are terrible in terms of packaging. They have remixes, B-sides, demos and a complete live concert from that tour. They are housed in a vinyl album sided box and it is awkward to slip the packages out in order to access the discs. The same is true for the Alan Parson Project deluxe editions of Turn of a Friendly Card and Ammonia Avenue. They are great in terms of content, but like the Ultravox sets, they come in large vinyl sized boxes and it is a pain to simply access the discs. I am glad that this material is available, but I wish the packaging were more consumer friendly.
Great show! Great to see Brendon on here. Tull sets all the way for packaging and content. But I also bought the recent ELP set which is large as it contains vinyl and cd's but it's a beautiful set. Also, I recently bought a new turntable and read that marbles are useful for leveling a turntable and a lightbulb lit up in my head and I thought oh that's what those marbles were for in the Floyd box!
Thanks Lucius!
Can't believe the Deep Purple Complete deluxe Made in Japan set released in 2014 wasn't mentioned. Absolutely love that set!
absolutely!
Pete, I can see why the box set would also help push "Slide It In" over the '87 s/t. It's a nice one!!
Yeah tough call. Like Pete I could easily have gone either way.
great video! As far as box sets go, I've been enjoying the Sabbath and Jethro Tull sets. I'm sold on those Whitesnake ones you guys talked about I'll have to see if I can still find them
What a crossover!! how great!
I agree with both of you. What I liked about the old box sets they had a big box and book let .and I had some cool ones from the doors alice cooper life and crimes AC/DC bon fire .
This is a Great subject for me especially!
My main subject is Jethro Tull.. Tull has Always been about quality! My story with Tull is kind of unique and how I got into them! One day in my young middle school years, a friend put a Broadsword pin on his METAL battle vest, (Denim of course with a large patch on the of course), He told me about Tull, and I went a few days after and bought the "Best of the 25th Anniversary Box set".. I Loved it so much that I bought the TRUE 25th Anniversary box set and was totally enamored with Tull! A Beautiful Enchanting well produced box set for it's time! The RARE things = disk 2 "Flawed Gems" is Awesome! Which included the "Chateau Disaster" tapes is Really Fun! I also think that the Live Aqualung on this box IS my favorite even above the original, as it is so HEAVY!
Now another FAVE for me is..
PINK FLOYD Shine On.. = It is NOT Practical, as it is Soo HUGE! But it is beautiful.. It does not have everything, but it Does have Apples & Oranges delux CD!, Which I Adore for sure!
Pete... King Crimson The Great Deceiver at the time was / is a beautiful box set.. But it is a pain in the ass! But AWESOME content!
Black Sabbath the OZZY Years is a pain in the ass! It is a beautiful long slip case, with all of the CDs in cardboard slip cases and an imbedded booklet.. Not practical, but fun all the same! The same with Stevie Nicks "Enchanted".. A Beautiful mix of songs on 4 CD's but a pain in the ass for storage.. Also about Stevie.. The NEW box set looks to be of Much better quality in things on Vilyl!, as opposed to CD format! Check this out, if so inclined.
YES = YesYears.. = Beautiful!! But what a waste of time & $$ I sold this off the first year that I got it, when it first came out, because what few special songs that it had, were not really that great, like "Don,t kill the Whale" and other renditions or other not really good songs by YES.. The artwork and production was Awesome of course!
The RUSH box sets look Amasing!! I would Love to get a few, but they are way to pricey for me right now..
Iron Maiden will get into the Box Set game here soon too, since they did the "CASTEL" Special edition CD's I am sure! And maybe put in some Eddie Toys for us grown up kids! Will I buy them?? = No.. Because I have the 2 ultimate box sets from them in their special years =
Eddies Archive Tin metal box set & First 10 years "Up the Irons" box set Japanese version. If you have these 2 box sets, along with everything up to Seventh Son, including both live albums.. = You have THE Essential Maiden! Everything else is "Blegh" IMHO!
There iss a time when a Completest like me (In the past), has to say stop! I am on a budget now and cannot afford the addiction of music bands anymore! To you who can afford all of these expensive box sets or those of you in music rating buisness = God Speed and do it!, and share as always what you have! It is always interresting to see what is coming out! I live Paycheck to PC & can not spend what I could in the past, and it seems like a waste to me with my 100's collections on my wall, which I should sell, while I could listen to ANYTHING, (Almost), on the internet! = Not worth it anymore for the last 15 years for me.
Cool...I hadda look twice when I saw the thumbnail. Great guys, with deep knowledge....and fantastic Rooms!
Brendon on SOT, great stuff!
You guys are the only ones in music knowledge that i subscribe. Thanks guys
I love both of your channels so much
Thanks so much!
How awesome is this? Great to see Brendon on the channel, watched him for years. Super nice guy, and very knowledgeable. And of course I share his taste in music.
Ok, I’m calling for a “Supergroup” show…Pardo, Popoff, Aston, and Snyder!
As far as box sets, I know they are expensive, but I love the big Kiss ones of the last few years, I love all the bits & pieces in a big box set.
And the 5.1/Atmos mixes are a huge draw to me, in a box. No doubt you need the set up to do it, but if you do, they can be magical.
Ok so what would our Supergroup name be?
“A Deep Sabbath Kiss”
That’s all I got 😂
Two of my favorite UA-camrs collaborating! 😊
For a while in the 90s, you could get a lot of box sets as free selections in BMG club, which is how I got things like the Stax set, various Chess sets. Most of my faves from that era, like Buzzcocks and Nick Drake, were unwieldy in those vinyl-sized boxes even though they were CDs. I sold those ages ago (everything's ripped to FLAC). The ones I've kept are more recent ones that all are close the the same height (like a Blu-Ray box) and fit nicely on the top shelf of my last CD case -- Bauhaus, Sabbath, Captain Beefheart - Sun Zoom Spark, The Fall, The Jazz Butcher, Iggy Pop, Wilson Pickett, Screaming Blue Messiahs, Stooges - Raw Power, and Wire.
Ya Pete, I kind of wanted the Wishbone Ash box, as I could put the vinyl on my wall (I have a turntable but don't use it a lot), but just too unwieldy and expensive. For a while it was more common to have scaled down versions, like double CD sets that are affordable. The Rush sets are a good example. Good point that a remix would have been nice for Sabotage, as it's always sounded a bit harsh to me. I paid $50 for it, a bit much, but heckuva lot better than $150+ for stuff like Wishbone Ash. Mostly the CD versions of the Sabbath boxes pretty much nail it, more affordable than most current boxes, fit on the shelf, etc. Looking forward to versions of the first one, Master of Reality and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.
The only 2 shows I follow and to see you 2 together is must see viewing. Looking forward and hoping you get together again.
Great to see brendon on SOT hopefully see him again nice one pete 👍
Great show guys!! Watch both of you EVERYDAY. It was like when David Letterman was a guest on the Johnny Carson show! Hope Brendon can do other shows with you Pete
So does that make me David Letterman? I used to be a fan of Conan but then became a fan of Craig Ferguson, who IMO was the best.
@@BrendonSnyder lol yes because Johnny Carson was the first HUGE late night talk host (Pete Pardo). David Letterman was the next HUGE up and coming host (yes that would be you)😁🤘🏻
This was a long show but you guys kept my interest throughput! I think my first box sets where The Who's Maximum R & B, Deep Purple's Listen, Learn, Read On and Yes's YESYEARS they've come on a long way since then. The main reason I buy them now is for the unreleased live concerts & the bluray as im a 5:1 guy. Many albums I have grown to like much more hearing them in the immersive context. My gripe is actually more of an annoyance with myself as they are always limited pressings and there's a few I have missed out on such as Lizzy's Live & Dangerous, luckily this is getting a repress in October and have pre-ordered. Luckily I bought the Genesis box sets on release and the 5:1 of The Lamb with the slide viuals used on the tour is wonderful. I also love those Classic Album box sets series as its nice to have them all in one place and free up some space!
I've got a unofficial cd of Floyd at Pompeii. Got it at the record store I still go to back in the 90s. Set the controls is my favorite
Same here, better version of Saucerful of Secrets than Ummagumma too.
Welcome Brendon to SOT great to have a physical product guy and I think would be a great addition to The Curse of The Collector.
Awesome
It's great to see two channels that I watch come together. Great job guys.
a good priced boxset, even if it has only the studio albums may be a good introduction for someone who wants to get into a band. Personally, I have a lot of original album series featuring 5 cds in cardboard sleeves and nothing else but the price is absolutely amazing.. and there are so many bands
Hey guys!! I watch both of your shows regularly!!! ⭐️⭐️ I’m so glad you guys have done a show together!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 I agree with everything you guys have discussed!!! Great show!!!
The collab I’ve been waiting for!!!
