    Wow.....every video that says the ultimate trailer video should watch this one......this just blew my mind ....now I have a incredible idea for this summer project.... Only change I might make would be a sliding drawer system for the bottom to hold the tackle , stove and light clothing for weekend trips and cut down on the totes . And a winch out front to help pull up the peddling kayaks I'm not getting any younger..... Thank you for the brain storming ideas , you have inspired me to make double wide box unit instead of a stacking unit. 98 lbs before accessories is not a easy lift when your pushing 60...👍 👍 🇨🇦

    Awesome trailer. I do agree with making it a little bit shorter. That extra storage space is definitely useful but having the kayaks up high defeats the purpose of the reason I bought the trailer. Seems like a nice simple idea. I could see myself making one about 8 inches high just to fit all the bulky items like fishing rods, paddles, and life jackets.

    Nice build. A couple of missing points, I think.
    Unless I missed it, no mention was made of the build costs - in both time and money. The former may be addressed in one of the build videos, but a cost summary would be useful for comparison with commercial offerings.
    With a few to several thousand miles traveled, how does this trailer perform in therms of drag and mileage. One would assume that moving the boat and gear from the top, resulted in less drag. Did the added weight of the trailer make any difference in mileage - lost or gained?

    • @MSMAdventures
      @MSMAdventures  3 роки тому

      Thank you! My cost all in is about $800 I believe. More than just the cost savings for me is the ability to customize the trailer to exactly what works for your specific needs. Its been great so far on the road. Travels very well at highway speeds and hardly feels like it is back there. Fuel efficiency suffers a few mpg when pulling but not significantly for me.

    Hi.. Very nice job on the custom trailer. Just what I'm wanting to do with my HF trailer exactly like yours. Do you how much the entire trailer as you have it with Kayak and gear weighs? and how much the trailer weight capacity is. I thought these trailers were only like 900 lbs. capacity?... • @MSMAdventures
      @MSMAdventures  5 років тому

      Thank you. I haven't had it weighed yet but I did estimate based on the lumber that was used. Capacity for the trailer is 1190 lbs. I estimate that I am well under that at under 800 lbs fully loaded with my gear. It rides really well with the weight of the wood box on it. If you were really concerned about blow outs I would probably upgrade to a better quality tire since they are probably not the highest quality that come with it. So far they have been great though. Hello from Montreal Canada! Excellent build Scott! With the long winters here, will have to attempt a similar build myself. If you were to do this again, would you still use a Harbor Freight as your core trailer or go with something with an independant suspension? I'm sure you looked at all options with prices..any advice? You should Google Sketch your work and sell it, I would be your first customer :)

      Thank you very much! I would use the Harbor Freight trailer again. Bang for the buck I'm impressed with this little trailer. With the weight of the custom box it rides pretty nice going down the road. I'm sure there are better trailers to use but any other options I looked at were several times the price. This worked great for my needs. Good luck with your build and have fun with it! Thanks for watching.

    Awesome build! About to start this build this weekend, was curious how many sheets of plywood you needed and how many 2x4s, I'd appreciate the info :)

      Thank you for very much! It's about 4 sheets of plywood and nut exactly sure about the 2x4s. Probably around 12 depending on how strong and heavy you want the box to be.

    Great build! I recently purchased the same HF trailer and am going to build this exact camping/kayak trailer. Imitation is the best form of flattery, right? Lol! Anyway, I have several questions. Would you be willing to share an email address or is there another way I could contact you?

    Very cool trailer set up! By far the best one for my buck. Gonna try and copy this you wouldn't happen to have the measurements or plan for this?

      Thank you very much! I don't have plans unfortunately since I pretty much winged it from the vision in my head :) Let me know if I can help though. I kept measurements pretty simple around sheets of 4x8 plywood. 4' x 8' x 2' tall box.

    Do you have a list of materials used, and possibly a step by step building guide of what you did? Definitely something I wouldn’t mind paying for to do the same build.

    really interested on what lumber you used, and where you got the hinges for doors and the on doors

      Mostly 1/2 plywood and 2x4's. The hinges are just stainless piano hinges. Pretty simple but effective.

    Very nice build! Question? Is the inside of the box weather tight? What kind of paint ?

    • @MSMAdventures
      @MSMAdventures  4 роки тому

      Thank you! I used primer and Rust-Oleum paint. Box is not weather tight but it was almost totally dry after a 8 hour drive in the rain so that's good enough for my needs :)
