Hey GC great trailer. The flex makes tons of sense. MNKFA member also, faribault. I bought a trailer 6x12 and it’s now down to just the frame. I’d like to do something similar but wanna know if I should use 2 or 3” pvc. I have a big fish 120. Catamaran style hull. Hope tourneys can still go on with all the craziness but if not at least we can still get on the water.
Dustin Anderson depends on your gunnels and if there more deep or more flat. I’d say 2 because it will flex more but it you go 3 you can buy the cheep PVC because it’s thinner and will still flex good.
How did you mount the Erickson rachet strap piece? The trailers square tube is a sealed system, did you just use a screw type bolt since you cant get a nut behind the mounting bolt? Thanks
looks good but im wondering why no one makes regular boat trailer bunk for their kayak trailers. its more expensive but seems like the way to go. i just ordered 8 bunk brackets kits and marine carpet I will buy 4 8 foot 2x4s and all said and done i will be in for about $150. an thoughts would be appreciated.
Because it increases the risk of cracking your plastic kayak and/or pop rivets. Boats are made to handle being transported on a trailer with specific pressure points. Kayaks are NOT. You need some flex to take the “suspension” of the trailer bounce on the road... sorry if that didn’t make sense. Hard to explain in text form.
@@GrantCarston I get it. I will have to keep that in mind If I don't end up using the bunks I'm sure I will have no problem selling them. Thank for the input.
I have the same trailer and the same racks, bought based on your video, but I am wondering about the kayak cradles on the top kayak. I have the factory triangle shape attachments, but they do nothing to help attach the kayak or pvc tubing. I can’t quite get my head around how to put cradles on the top rails without drilling. How did you attach yours?
I bought kayak cradles that clamp on. Look on Amazon for kayak cradles and you should find multiple. Thanks for the like buddy! Hopefully I post more videos this season. I’ve got more time to focus on videos now.
@@SeagraveIO it’s on sportsmen guide . Com not sure the brand name. Just go to the website and search for aluminum truck ladder rack. It comes with triangular shaped brackets on the top. I didn’t use those.
@@SeagraveIO www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/guide-gear-universal-aluminum-truck-rack?a=2217030 Looks like they changed the design. But this could still allow light mounting under. Just drill and tap the rail.
Hello, did you ever find out what type of ladder racks he used and where he got them from? Tried to send him a message but never replied. I have the same triton trailer and looking at installing ladder racks. Thanks.
Nolan Bagley the lights get power from the running lights. I believe it’s the brown wire on a 4 prong plug. So the lights on the vehicle must be on for them to work. Being the only time I’ll use the lights is in the dark, my vehicles lights will be on anyhow.
You must be new to kayak fishing and not informed or educated on the sport. Please continue to make yourself look like an ass hat with your comments. Because that’s what your making yourself look like. I 100% guarantee people are laughing at your comment. That’s why I’m leaving it on this video. Your fishing out of some crappy kayak you bought from the local fleet farm or hardware store. Or it might be better but still a crappy cheap shit made kayak not meant for fishing tournaments or fishing in general. Stop being a troll and educate yourself before posting any comments on kayak fishing trailers or kayak fishing in general!
Hi Rob, I just bought an Aluma trailer for my Old town sportsman 106mk and need to modify the trailer. Did you get your trailer set up with pvc pipes? I'm trying to figure out how to do it? thanks
@@robcopenhaver2800 yes i bought some 3" pvc pipes that are 10'. Yes pics would be a great help. How long are the pipes you used? I'm not sure if i have to cut them down or not? Thanks
Hello GC awesome trailer came out great ! New friend here happy to connect with another yak angler and look forward to your fishing adventures. Hope you can visit us at Bass Camo thanks !
My next project. Have axel n springs , just fab the rest . Nice trailer
Man, thanks for doing this video! I am buying a Triton LT to put my old Town 136 on today, I'm going to use your setup for mine too.
That is so impressive. Well done, sir. I like the idea of flex in the PVC tubes.
Perfect! I'm just about to fit out my trailer for a Hobie AI and you've solved my problem!
LongStraightLines thanks! Let me know how it turns out!!

Would you recommend this for a canoe or be better off with wood bunks ?

Nice job, I build a very similar setup. I build the uprights, and bolt in yakima crossbars and accessories.
how's the trailer holding up? any warping (or Hobie scare tactic) of the kayak on those lengthwise PVC tubes versus using Hobie cradles?
wish i could find a vid of a double pwc trailer converted like this
Hey man, what brand ladder racks did you use? Do you have a link? Thanks for the help!
