- Daniel Lopatin aka OPN found these MIDI files on a data stick which was sent to him by his alien friend Ezra. I downloaded them from the Internet and put them with some nice synths.

Music by Kaoss Edge -- the band that inspired 0PN (actually it doesn't exist and music is written by Daniel himself)
Basic synths just to give an understanding of the melodies

this ended up being a really fascinating look into the way opn actually composes tracks
hes always had a knack for capturing this weird sort of fluidity and beauty that comes along with meandering , loose keyboard melodies , and i think it was def the core of the album this time around
The Mutand Standard theme is beyond beautiful
I wish the MIDI for Sticky Drama included the ChipSpeech melody. Arguably the best melodies on the record
what is the chip speech melody?
this is incredibly important, thank you
This is absolutely beautiful
i'm loving this video my man. Great job :)
great edit, thank you for sharing this !
I feel really good listening this.
the first one is beautiful.. love it
+CDRIIVE Visuals wow again :o
imB0Bn wholely shit
The visuals ar e mazing thanks
Perfect
i think constantly about how the faces morph as the melody moving thru different tonalities in mutant standard. such an intelligent musician with such a fucked up sense of humor
this is nice
There needs to be KAOSS EDGE merch lmao
I agree
Omg I want to design this shirt WTF
niceeee
fuccing sweet bro
Favorite clavichord performance since J. S. Bach
I remember putting the “OG” midi with Serum as the plugin (with the patch PD ChampionBassPad) and it sounded exactly like in the song.
Love the FM-synth sounding bass that starts at 8:00 ("Dune"). Sounds similar or possibly the same as the one in the next track too... two oscillators, one a saw wave and the other a square wave would be my guess. You made that one in Massive too? I always assumed that Massive was for over-the-top dubstep synth/bass lines, probably from reading that Skrillex uses it. Surely it's got to be more versatile than that though.
All of my synths are hardware. I run Linux so can't (easily/usually) run VST instruments. Just SFT (soundfonts), DSSI, LV2, etc.). However today I am planning on booting up into Win 7 for once and messing around.
Thoroughly enjoyed this collection of songs. Great job.
+Banjolele Mountaineer yeah everything was made in Massive. i've been using Massive for more than six months i think and it still surprises me. "the less is more" definitely.
Erik Satie got reincarnated and went out and bought a synth
The chaotic progression that happens in the third track is incredible. How did you create that?
Oh you're not Daniel Lopatin, my bad
Dylan Jenken Forcing Ableton to convert audio to midi, basically, and taking the shitty result and running with it.
Nice LARPing
that video effect is awesome, i mean the shifting... what's that called?
These clips sound like Rich Vreeland's Fez score. Anyone confirm?
wheeeeeeeeeee!!!
Is it you on first video? Turning from young boy to todays Daniel?
i would suggest a smattering of babbling brook water ( a sample) to ease the listener into the raw waves.
How did you do to put the MIDI into image like this? Is there any program to make it easier? Thanks!
He’s using a program called Midi Animation Machine (MAM for short.)
what synths did you use? it all sounds incredible, great job :o
+Thomas Bosveld thank you! i used Native Instruments Massive. i wanted to make it sound like a videogame soundtrack, so i used the most basic synths (like sinewave), but you can actually build A LOT out of them if you use effects wisely
+Never Point Thanks man, love the first part. Always wanted to do something alike. Think your reply will help me on my way somewhat.
+Never Point It immediately reminded me of early OPN. I would've assumed you used a Roland Juno 40 VST.
+Never Point the melting reminded me of phonec
sticky drama and freaky eyes are much better as chiptune
1:35 Proof that THERE IS NO (NEVER WAS A) ROOT NOTE
curious, what does this mean?
nope, key change
What the hell is the morphing thing going on in the first clip? I'm assuming After Effects but I'm not familiar enough to figure it out.
+Swindle Erricksan Yeah I'm curious too!
+fourtwenty fourseven He's talking about the image in the video, not the synth.
+Swindle Erricksan Check out a program called 'Processing' :)
+NoToTheYayo do you know how to make that effect?
+NoToTheYayo Ah, thanks. I downloaded it a while ago actually but haven't gotten around to messing with it.
what's the film that second clip is from?
late comment but its from a video called g.o.d. gun

The synths are cool, but the originals are shit.
