To avoid promoting rushed games, there shouldn’t be year-based contracts. There should be deals to make a certain amount of games so that these companies put more emphasis on quality vs quantity in a certain amount of time.
Really like the idea and you could go further by limiting the genre i.e. no crypto games etc.

It’s crazy how little I want a new multiplayer Star Wars game. All of those single player ones are so exciting. I’d much rather have a brilliant single player game than anything multiplayer.

If EA is no longer a part of Star Wars, I am very happy. However, as bad as EA was, the potential remains for Lucasfilm Games to replace them with a far worse company, and that worries me.
They are still releasing games, it just means they no longer are the ones who get to exclusively release games. There is at least 2 more games coming out of EA.
No they're still part of Star Wars, it's just that other studios and publishers are now allowed to release games.

For my Battlefront brothers and sisters, it was a fun Journey. Im happy and sad at the same time because EA has failed us many times and knowing in the future someday a developer company will restore the Battlefront saga. We all lost in the end, but don’t give up hope.

The multiplayer scene is so disgusting anymore that a lot of us older players just need a break. Amazing, story-driven, single player games are never not welcomed. They claimed "no one played single player games" because all the was forced on us was generic battle royal/loot box bullshit, and not quality stories to build from.

Nah Co-op is rarely handled well. It usually falls into two camps . The devs put zero thought into co op and its just shoe horned in with no real purpose, other than a feature for the back of the box. On the flipside, the game is great in co op, but no fun if played in single player.

I’m never gonna forget the memories I made playing both battlefront (2015) and battlefront 2. I get so nostalgic looking back on all the great memories I had. I still remember playing hoth in first person and seeing an a wing fly through the legs of an at-at 🙏🙌

Bad business or not, there are gamers that don't care about multi-player. I haven't committed to a multi-player game in a few years now, single player games are the true essence of gaming. Unfortunately, a ton of multi-player games are designed to squeeze money from the players, they're more of a business than a game.
That wasn't his point though. Even if you don't play multiplayer, there are many more that do. The most popular games are multiplayer games, and the facts that thousands still play battlefront 2 daily (a game that doesn't squeeze money out of you, at least now) shows that there is a demand for it. Unlike single player games, multiplayer games have a ton of replayability, and so like he said, one multiplayer game out of half a dozen star wars games would be enough for the community out there.
One of the great things about mp games(which I’m surprised he didn’t bring up as he’s the one I originally heard the point from) is that often when someone finishes a single player campaign, their Star Wars thirst is reignited and they want to stay in that universe. Mp games fill that void by providing something that can be easily dropped in and out of, filling the Star Wars void in between single player releases and keeping gamers coming back to Star Wars
I think the main problem with EA and other big name publishers is that games are turned into arcade style games, following a similar style as big named movies that are meant to appeal to such a wide age range (7-40). It alienates more mature people, and brings down the sort of sophistication that they're looking for. Look at early games like TIE-Fighter or Jedi Knight. They weren't flashy, but they were sophisticated and left a lot of room for gamers exercise their own creative potential on those games. Games today in relation to games in the early 2000's are what coloring books are to novels.
Bingo.... Just like everything else in the entertainment industry.
It's even worse when you realize that EA made Dice stop working on Battlefront 2 and canceled Battlefront 3 because they wanted Dice to focus on the Battlefield franchise and what we got out of that was Battlefield V and 2042
Especially with the wild success of Battlefield and Call of Duty, Battlefront essentially writes itself with just two sides, Republic v Empire. Imagine playing a strict 1st person and having the same spawned vehicle setup. It would be amazing and it's really surprising and an outright shame that they didn't pursue Battle Front with the same enthusiasm and vigor.
Imagine what the world will be like when "a new hope" becomes public domain.

EA was right, nobody was playing single player star wars games because nobody released one in fucking decades.
Soon as one was released we loved it.
Squadrons might have passed unnoticed to most, but not for the VR gamers: We got to finally drive an x-wing, to frontly attack a star destroyer, you name it, in a galaxy far far away. It was awesome, it still is.
Im hoping they keep the MMORPG game SWTOR alive. Although it is made by Bioware, there shouldn't be any issue with that game. I hope they make more story content in the future.
That's really been my only issue with SWTOR. They NEED more story content, preferably for each character class and not just Empire or Republic. It's a great game, but what made it stand out was the movie-level stories in the original release.
EA has been weak in it's re-investment in SWTOR for years. The original storylines, voice acting and overall cinematic style still crush every other MMO out there. At this point a re-boot on a better engine or similarly styled new MMO may be a better bet, but I'll be playing SWTOR until they turn out the lights..
@@rathchain3287 I also kind of wonder if a new MMO with more modern features, like cross platform play, ultrawide support, etc, might be better if done right. It could maybe be set in/near the High Republic era which strikes me like it was maybe planned in part to accommodate something like an MMO in post Disney cannon. The large number of diverse Jedi that even dress fancy instead of only brown? It always screams MMO setup to me. XD
I just want one modern Star Wars singleplayer game where we play as a stormtrooper and stay loyal for a change. I don't want yet another game from the perspective of the rebels.
I hope Cal and BD1 get to make a jump to a series or movie. Doesn't need to be live action even. Just capture what they have in the games. They're awesome.
It only makes sense to make it live action. The guy has proven, he will kill it in Star Wars cinema with the screen time. He’s done the motion captures so he’s used to lightsaber combat already. I don’t see why he can’t just do it himself. Another spinoff like Mando or andor

We are in the Wild West of SW games again. That is a very good thing.
EA have always been more of a hinderance for games if anything.
I just hope the KOTOR remake is still on the cards because that would be a perfect game to release.
Squadrons was really good, let's not forget the budget thy put into it, it was what it was supposed to be and i'm actually sad because a full fledged, update filled squadrons would be amazing.
The Exclusivity contract with EA is all that's finished, not that EA/EA subsidiaries can't make SW games.

@@MikaelNihilsen yeah me too... I would still play squadrons til this day bc I am really into air(I guess space in this case) vehicle combat, but they ended the support and updates so fast... imo sw squadrons have a lot of potentials, even if there's modding support it'll be a lot better

a bunch of modders for bf2 have come together and have created a mod called "battlefront+", which introduces new heroes with new abilities, new costume, weapons and great additions to the game, which there is an app that lets you and all your friends play a private server online with mods
Actually I'm glad all the games being made are single player focused. However you were wrong on one of them. Eclipse is supposed to be heavily multiplayer focused. I even floated the idea that Star Wars Eclipse is a new MMO RPG to be the SWTOR killer of this decade. SWTOR being the one and only active Star Wars MMO.
Squadrons’ biggest mistake was being only first person

Squadrons, appropriately for a spin-off of Battlefront, experienced the exact same tragic life cycle. Started out rough, a niche game nobody asked for, and right as soon as they started adding some substantive new content with some new fighters support for the title is cut. I really liked Squadrons and I wish more people gave it a shot. Maybe if EA hadn’t abandoned it so soon after release, more people would have.
the rts game respawn is making will probably have multiplayer, like empire at war does. i love empire at war and im really looking forward to the rts game
We need story based single player games AND multiplayer. Not to mention the last co-op SW game is Ep. III Revenge of the Sith on PS2. I used to play that with my brother back in the days. Some of us like to play games locally, with split screen or other ways.
Squadrons was fun, but it wasn't "Rogue Squadron" or "X-Wing/TIE Fighter/X-Wing Alliance." Not arcade-y enough, and not flight sim-enough. Kind of awkwardly caught in the middle, unfortunately.
Thank god EA is out. Maybe someone will take up the Original BF3 and continue the work and finish it.

Just to be clear to some of you in the comments, EA still has the Star Wars license and will continue to make Star Wars games. What Ozzy is referring to is the “exclusive rights” to make Star Wars games, and that is now coming to an end.
I only play single player games. I don’t like dealing with exploits and online cheese. I don’t like dealing with trolls. Y’all can keep that.
6:54 it amazes me how little people know about the kotor remake, i mean a month after it was said that the game would be delayed indefinitely, the game switched developers to saber interactive and is now being worked on actively, i mean it probably being worked on right this second

For the last decade or so basically all AAA game has been multiplayer in some form, I've always been a solo gamer, absolutely hating the multiplayer aspect of most games

They pulled the plug on Battlefront 2 just to work on Battlefield 2042 a game that has a worse release than Battlefront 2.
I jumped into Battlefront 2 when it became free with PS Plus, which was after they fixed all the issues and pretty much right when they ended support. That game has a special place in my heart, and I'll be honest, I've almost exclusively played the Coop vs AI modes. It just hits the dopamine really good with that formula. Me and three players working together to hold off the aimbotty bots, if we do well, we don't even get heros, but if we struggle a bit, it ends up with 4 heros working together in an epic last stand. Nothing feels much better than actually winning the Rebel assault on Endor (if you know you know)

10 years ago I realized the star wars games being op era was over. I said I would wait for the EA deal to be over and I have stuck to that diligently. I'm 33 and have been a gamer since I was 4. That's 29 years since my first SNES in '93. I was a hardcore gamer for years, I loved the community and the creativity and the competition. But around 2010 I knew the gaming industry was becoming too large, the risk aversion overshadowed the creativity and the industry flipped. EA and their handling of Star Wars mirrors Disney, which mirrors the general gaming industry, which itself mirrors the entire world right now. Scared of loss, devoid of humanity. The opposite of what made us fall in love with all these things in the first place, we all loved star wars and a small piece of us still does and always will. You can never rob us of what we had, but the real loss is the potential that is wasted every day we don't live with courage. Take risks and make big moves based on visions of grand narratives, merciless competition and unyielding fun. That is what we're all missing now, that is what has been robbed from us all, from now on until society restructures itself again and everything within falls in line comfortably. Maybe this is a sign the spell has been broken and maybe Star Wars will become a name in gaming we will all care about again, but as with everything over the last 10 years. I wouldn't hold my breath.
It may be bad for business but I am completely fine with more single player games along the lines of KOTOR and the Jedi series. I just hope they remain profitable

In a dream world, Starfield is really good, microsoft hands the tech over to Obsidian and they make an open galaxy Star Wars rpg.
Playing both these games made me feel like gaming used to and its something i haven’t experienced in a decade.
This series so far is exquisite, 10/10.
I dunno man games like this uncharted the last of us and god of war all make me feel like how gaming used to be. Its rare for a game to come out that just sucks me in but every once in awhile one dose

Why can't they make a multiplayer and single player game? Remember the good old days with Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast? I played both of those games for hours on both multiplayer and single player.
I loved the premise of the original Battlefront 3, doing "what if..." scenarios, like Obi Wan becoming a Sith, and Anakin remaining a Jedi.
I don’t get why they don’t just create Star Wars legends as the type which means non canon like the title like Star Wars: jedi survivor instead it could be like Star Wars legends: jedi survivor if survivor was non canon or from legends

EA and DICE have care about own franchise and could honestly make it but EA turn it down so I think we will never get battlefront 3 from EA and DICE anytime soon.

there is a good Star Wars RTS out already Empire at War thanks to the full conversion mods. and i for one am look forward to the market heading back towards single player games

And one curtique I have is that as a single player kinda guy, it felt like when before fallen order came out, star wars games felt only multiplayer focused but even if it's multiplayer games or single player i still don't think EA did that great of a job they literally had a golden ip and managed it poorly.

Why is everybody looking over the fact that Survivor still isn’t working for TONS of people??? It’s been out for weeks now and I still can’t get past the first cutscene on my series x without it crashing. Yet people are still praising it “despite performance issues”. I CANT EVEN GET THE GAME TO RUN.

The Galactic Contentions mod for Squad is the best SW multiplayer you can get atm.

What we really need is a destiny 2 style game and you could have different lightsaber colors be different classes and have specific abilities only to that specific class and you can realest more colors in future DLC.
The single player PSVR mission Battlefront 1 was fantastic, we need a sequel to Star Wars squadrons in PSVR2 or at least an upgrade patch

I want more old republic. Give us more of that. SWTOR has sucked ever since they nerfed literally everything in the game, and now it's pretty much just running around to get the story.
Respawn has done an amazing job, im playing survivor now its awesome but really needed to be more polished im hopefull another patch will fix issues.
Battlefront 2 is one of my fav - if not my fav FPS of all time. That games mechanics are spectacular. The balance of casual and fun. So great.
For me, their decision to go quality over quantity was the right choice.
EA knows the star wars fanbase demands innovation, which is incredibly hard with a 40 yrs old franchise.
Most of the games, as you mentioned were good.. I think the last thing we wanted to see was star wars becoming COD :)

Are you talking about PvP or Multiplayer as these are two different things. In fact the Ubisoft / Massive's open world game looks to be based on the new Snowdrop engine and could therefore be a live service game - which would then make it multiplayer (think Destiny, Division). If they also include Ubisoft Scalar tech then these worlds and number of players in any environment could be really large and include community challenges, events and boss fights. Now for PvP that is a different story and not sure what they'd do in that regard.

EA's tenure with the exclusive license is more a result of what the AAA publishers vs what fans want. The notion that people don't want a single-player game is a complete load of BS. Fallen Order proved people want that type of gaming experience. They also want a multi-player experience and I think the reason EA shut down Battlefront 2 is because it represented a giant failure on their part to produce the working game and wanted to wash their hands of it. Out of sight, out of mind. Now the only announced games are single-player. Well never let it be said that the big game publishers are risk-takers. They follow the money and right now there is a high demand for good quality single-player games and not just in the Star Wars universe. They know people want a Star Wars themed multi-player game but don't want to take on the risk. Multi-player games have long since moved on from being an add-on to a single-player games and are a difficult beast to tame. EA took two shots at that and failed both times out of the gate. They eventually ended up with good-quality games but it took time and all the while they took on an enormous amount of negative press and criticism. I think it's a good thing that no one publisher has exclusive rights to anything as lack of competition leads to complacency. Just look at the Madden franchise to see a glaring example of that.

The fan remake of TIE Fighter using the upgraded x-wing alliance engine is better than most of what EA put out... Certainly Squadrons

I could actually see Fortnite build an amazing Star Wars game with UE5 they could have vehicles, creatures, 1st person, open world, destructible environments. The potential there would be MASSIVE.

People DO play single player games, THE PROBLEM is that game developers DON’T make as many single player games anymore as they used to , ALL THEY ARE INTERESTED IN is cash grab games that make you pay for skins/characters/and even to continue to be able to play through the game with parts of the game are blocked behind a pay wall, these are use a few of the reasons why I ONLY PLAY SINGLE PLAYER games, we are out there still playing. NOT EVERY GAME NEED TO BE MULTIPLAYER

I really want Respawn to try their hand at Battlefront. At least they would probably have the sight to include Galactic Conquest, which would be hugely popular single player and co-op. You could probably even make it multiplayer too (well, maybe), but I'm not sure how the logistics of that would work. Apex is probably the best battle royale game, Titanfall 2 was incredible, and Jedi, aside from performance problems and a terrible PC version for Survivor, has been a standout series. They've proven they can handle both single player and multiplayer very well, which any good Battlefront game needs both of, and they seem to be the studio most immune to EA meddling.
Yea EA, "Nobody plays single player games", that's why the majority of games released are primarily single play games with multiplayer elements and not the reverse.
I litterly made a video about Squadrons called "The most Forgotton Modern Star Wars Game"
I see that in the next 10-15 years, if possible, they make a new Star Wars Jedi game. The amount of people that would freak out because there is a continuation to the game would be insane. If they allowed EA to make a new one by then, we’d all be freaking out. Crazy to think there won’t be anymore games by EA. Which I’m not gonna lie, they’ve made some pretty great games the past few years.
This doesn't mean there won't be anymore EA Star Wars games, just that they won't have the exclusive rights to release Star Wars games. Remember, Respawn is owned by EA and still working on their fps Star Wars game.
I still want battlefront 2 to come back. I feel like killing the game was the dumbest decision EA has ever made in their history. Really hope Respawn and or Dice come together to bring the game back to life through petition.
