It’s simple: People don’t have a problem with women taking the pivotal role in a movie. They have a problem with bad writing. Ellen Ripley, Sarah Connor & Vi etc. are beloved female characters because they’re relatable, flawed & compelling not just because they’re strong.
Edit: aaaaaand (thus far) it sucks. I have a sneaking suspicion that all criticism of the show’s plot and characters will be deflected by calling people sexists & bigots 🧐
Edit 2: That was an understatement. Acolyte is absolutely awful
Edit 3: Episode 4… how is it getting even worse 😂
Edit 4: Well it’s over. One of the worst shows I’ve ever seen. It completes the trinity of trash with Velma & She-Hulk. Just another nail in Star Wars’ coffin.

Luke, who essentially becomes the most powerful user of the force in star wars history, was being trained by one of if not THE best teachers ever (Yoda), and he still lost his first fight with Vader. He then had to go back and spend MONTHS training even more. Ray who finds out she is a Jedi like a few weeks ago with zero training whatsoever can defeat Kylo Ren who has been training his whole life? Already there are zero stakes, she easily defeats the big villain without going through any hardship or development. Compare this to Luke, who with the power and training mentioned, gets his hand cut off in his first fight against Vader who was going easy on him the whole time. Horrible horrible horrible writing.

And here you are, comparing Kylo Ren to Darth Vader. Let's face it, Vader was 1000 times the villain that Ren EVER was. Ren was young, impulsive, and lost his temper on an hourly basis. Vader didn't scream, yell, and smash equipment. Because Vader had a MUCH better command of the Force than Ren could ever dream of having. Yeah, Luke was trained by Yoda - but he lost his first fight with Vader precisely BECAUSE he was impulsive, angry, and lacked the needed focus. Yoda said as much. Luke lost precisely BECAUSE he was behaving just like Kylo Ren, and Yoda knew he would most likely lose. Now, even though Yoda trained Luke - at least in part - how long was this training? It never seemed to me that Luke was on Dagobah very long -- he did some running around, levitated some rocks, beheaded his own shadow - but that was essentially it. There was no "training montage" -- a staple of 80s movies -- much to Empire Strikes Back's credit, but it just didn't seem to me that Luke was all that well-trained. AND ... Vader was conflicted about killing his own son. Palpatine sensed it. I honestly don't believe Vader WANTED to win ... otherwise I think Luke would've lost to Vader from the beginning.

The first half of your comment is just opinion and hyperbole so I’ll focus on the lack of facts in the second half.
We don’t know how long Luke was on Degobah “running around, levitating some rocks”, but I do know that Empire Strikes Back took place 3 1/2 years after Star Wars.
And it was on Hoth that Obi Wan told Luke that he must seek out Yoda because “THERE IS NOTHING MORE I CAN TEACH YOU”
      (Not Yelling, just emphasizing)
That’s a little more time than the 2 or 3 days that Rae even knew that she had force powers and that Jedi were even real.
Then, you claim that Vader could have won had he wanted to but didn’t.
That simply helps defeat your own argument for Rays success against Kylo because he had ZERO reservations about killing her and he was easily a 1000 times a better duelist than the girl who had literally just lit up the lightsaber for the first time.

Starlight wakes up to the reality that her powers weren't a gift from God like she was lead to believe, but the result of a government experiment her mother put her up to for a check.
Maeve started out thinking the world of her new job until she gave away too much of herself to the point of being complicit in Homelander's bullshit and had to find relief at the bottom of a bottle.
Through their hardships, they make an effort to grow and change from what they endure.

There's a youtuber who remade the sequel trilogy as narrated stories with AI generated images to complement the stories.
Their sequel trilogy is much better than what we've gotten from Disney.
Finn started similarly like Disney's story & became a Jedi in the end, leading the new Jedi Order. Rey was still Palpatine's "decendant" but she started as a "Darth Vader" type character & later turned to the light side after Luke saved her. Poe was Han Solo's protegé & later became Rey's husband.
Han Solo died in the 1st story but because he heroically trying to save Poe & others when the new Jedi Temple that Luke built was attacked by Rey & her Imperial remnant Stormtroopers.
Leia became the new Chancellor of the New Republic in the end.
Ben Solo started as the best Jedi Padawan who turned to the dark side because he felt powerless & unable to save his father from the Jedi Temple ambush, but he got his own redemption arc in the end.
Knights of Ren were like the Inquisitors that had their own leader with a title "Kylo Ren" & originally answered to Rey as their Darth Vader equivalent.
Kylo Ren wasn't originally Ben Solo but someone else & Ben killed him in the 2nd story & took the title to complete his transformation to the dark side.
At the same time, Rey was turning to the Light side & was actually trained by Luke.
There was a cameo of Anakin in the last story, fighting Palpatine's soul who took over Ben Solo's body while Ben himself was fighting Rey & Luke who became young & strong again for the climactic battle only (thanks to The Force & the teachings of Anakin, Obi-Wan, & Yoda's Force ghosts).
There was also a cameo of older Mara Jade in the final story & her relationship with Luke was explained there.

Felt trauma, regret, betrayal, and eventually her redemption, this is why people keep watching it till this day. And then she says that Bruce will never understand her misery… despite the fact that Bruce had a shitty childhood involving heavy amounts of abuse in vast forms and then one day becoming a literal monster via gamma radiation. A monster the world simultaneously was grateful for yet severely despised and feared and treated like, well, a monster.

Did the writers ever read any Hulk source material? The entire point of the Hulk is that the good ol’ jolly green is a manifestation of Bruce Banner’s trauma coming out as rage? That the only reason that Bruce and Hulk managed to merge together in the MCU is through intense therapy, meditation and self care, and then injecting himself with more gamma radiation?

the MC (female) is already far superior in almost every way to the main villan so much so that you wonder why they're the main villain, but the MC (female) has to "find themself" to defeat the main villian.
The MC (male) Is far weaker then the main villian so they spend quite a long time training to eventually be able to defeat the villian.
If there is a man in a femenist ran movie, they're either ENTIRELY useless or so weak you wonder why they are there.

The character of Rey was well regarded in the first Star Wars movie that she appeared in?!?
You couldn’t get a more two dimensional almost one dimensional character.
No backstory other than she’s a scavenger. No character arc, and in particular no hero arc. No struggle, she just picks up a light saber and she’s instant bad ass Jedi. Every other Jedi had to train. Presumably, even the female Jedi that did exist. But in particular, I guess this was a slap against the male Jedi, to show that she is somehow superior to male Jedi.
She goes up against an enemy, who is trained, schooled in the force, schooled in the way of combat, and experienced. And somehow, she just knows how to flip and twirl and spin, that light saber and fight like an expert. anyone who wants to say “the force it” can shove it up their rear. The force didn’t do it.
The character of Ray did not earn her spurs. She did not earn her position. She did not deserve her position. She did not train, she did not earn the skills she displayed. They just suddenly magically appeared. there’s too much magical thinking in women and feminism. That simply not how the world works. Not the real world, nor the world within the logic and structural framework of George Lucas’s Star Wars.
And there is no other Star Wars. The acolyte, whatever else it may be, is not a legitimate part of the Star Wars franchise. Nor is the anti-sequel trilogy featuring Ray.
Disney and Lucas film have sacrificed quality in writing, quality and production, even quality and acting, on the almighty Altar of Woke.
Everyone of the dumpster fires they call films that have come out under. Kathleen Kennedy have been just that: dumpster fires. They have sacrifice everything for the in your face, cram down your throat, and highly suspect and unpopular, agenda, and narrative that they constantly deny they’re putting into these films, but that they stand out in the open and cram, and every nook and cranny of these movies.
Perhaps they have lived so believing these beliefs, that men and women are exactly the same and interchangeable, or perhaps, even that women are infinitely superior to men, that they are in capable of actually connecting to reality anymore.
Despite their stated, objective, a lie, of course, that they’re wanting to go beyond the vision of George Lucas, the fact is that Star Wars is, George Lucas, and George Lucas is Star Wars. It’s his vision. He created a universe. You don’t come in and tear it to shreds, Put it back together into something that is utterly and completely unrecognizable and frankly insufferable, and still call it by the same name.
If you want to do something totally different, then the George Lucas vision of Star Wars, then start your own damn franchise. Start from scratch, then you have a blank slate, you don’t have a huge massive fans, all of whom are against you. Not the tiny vocal negative minority that you accuse of being misogynistic, the tiny negative minority that does not exist, but the vast majority of both the massive fan base for Star Wars, and for other franchises in Lucas film, and the general audience, who have enjoyed these films prior to the acquisition of LucasFilm by Disney.
The fans have every right to be critical. The fans have every right to voice, the criticisms, loud and strong. Neither the producer/Director nor Kathleen Kennedy herself, have any power, nor any right to demand that the fan cease their criticism, and, as it has been put by them from time to time,“to shut up “. We have freedom of speech for a reason. These women have no power, no, right, and no ability to quiet or sensor the fans.
And it isn’t just a fans that Disney has alienated. Families throughout the United States, indeed, the world over, are rejecting the blatant propaganda in these movies. It is in a front to families. Are use patient of the rights of the parents to teach their children. The values that they want them to have. It is not the place to do this.
It is the place of Disney merely to produce high-quality, broad, appeal entertainment. Both in its cinema productions, it’s television streaming programs, and in its theme park attractions. High-quality, broad mass appeal entertainment that is completely free of any propaganda message, any feminist narrative, and does not intrude into, and usurp the rights of parents.
“The Acolyte” has fallen with a sickening thud AS A TRAILER ON UA-cam! I cannot wait to hear the massive thud that it will sound, the horrible, wet splat sound that it will make, when the series itself is released and falls and impacts the foundation of failure. "The character of Rey was well regarded in the first Star Wars movie that she appeared in."
She was two dimensional, she had struggles just like every other character in this franchise (Even more than one background GNK droid!).
Enough backstory to tell that she’s a survivor, a melee combatant, a scavenger. She HAS a character arc, and in particular, a new hero arc that presented itself to her. Big struggle, she questions her place in the Cold War, and at the climax, she picks up a light saber and she’s Jedi novice. Every other Jedi had to train. Presumably, even the female Jedi that did exist. But in particular, I was just like how the male Jedi went through, to show that she can be just as strong as any male Jedi. Anyone can as long as they have the strength, will and courage.
She goes up against an enemy, who too is trained, schooled in the force, schooled in the way of combat, and experienced as well. And with her acrobatic skill and maneuvers self-taught in her life on Jakku, she just knows how to flip and twirl and spin, that lightsaber and fight like an expert. Anyone who wants to say “the force” can shove it up their microwave. The force didn’t just do it, it helped her, gave her that push to realize where she belongs.
The character of Rey did earn her spurs. She did earn her position. She did deserve her position. She DID train, she DID earn the skills she displayed. They were a part of her before and right along with the story. there’s lots of magical thinking in women and feminism, including those that have been left out in the past. That is how the world should start to work (and is continuing to do so whether you like it or not). Not just including real world elements, but also including the world within the logic and structural framework of George Lucas’s Star Wars and combining it altogether (along with understandable and agreeable rules that set the limits to what can and can't be possible based on the laws of the existing reality).
And there are other Star Wars. The Acolyte, is a legitimate part of the Star Wars franchise, specifically before Episode I happens. Along with the dark-alternate sequel trilogy featuring Rey (your choice to whether YOU want it canon or not, it's all in YOUR choice and own head canon that you make for yourself).
Disney and Lucasfilm have sacrificed time, management, and effort with their quality in writing, consistency, continuity, production and acting despite their current employments and workers, onto no such altar of w-word (they're not satanic worshippers for Christ's sake, they are just doing their job. If something's wrong or bothering them, they speak up, not be silenced).
Everyone whom have made select films become a success have come out from all over the world. Kathleen Kennedy has been a film producer and president of Lucasfilm (just a spokesperson who announces any projects, such as the ones that surprisingly sometimes stand out well, along with greenlighting selected projects to be turned into reality to be made to watch). Lucasfilm has worked hard for everything in your pretty face, ingest it down your beautiful liver, and never highly suspect an agenda, and always bringing a unique narrative that they’re proud of putting into these films and shows, but that they stand strong and create every one of their shows and movies (even if it's not supposed to be perfect like an Oscar-level or 5 Stars flick).
Perhaps they have continued believing in themselves, that men and women are exactly the same and interchangeable, or perhaps, even that women are infinitely superior to men, that they are capable of actually connecting to reality. But it's true! They're capable like men, they've always have been. It's only that they've been excluded in the past, this is for making it up to them, giving them their chance and time to shine. Who knows, maybe they'll have fans and appreciation just like men do.
Anyways, as stated, the objective, the truth is that they’re wanting to go beyond the vision of George Lucas, the fact is that Star Wars is George Lucas, and that George Lucas once was and will always forever will be, Star Wars. He had his vision (he can choose how he wants the story to be, whether it be canon or non-canon in books, comics, writings, etc.). He created a universe. He later then sold it because he chose to move on and support his family in life. At this point once you've sold your franchise to a buyer, the buyer can do whatever they want to do at this point. Even if the buyer turns your follow-up story into shreds, that doesn't mean you're forced to accept it, you yourself can change or create your own sequel trilogy or any other story of your own. It doesn't have to be canon or non-canon to you, that's up to you. Build and create a story that can be recognizable and liked upon by others who enjoy your tale and can call it by whatever you title it.
If you want to do something totally different, like the George Lucas vision of Star Wars (or his original idea of his sequel trilogy, btw look it up it's great too), then start a new franchise. Start from scratch, so that when you have a blank slate, you won’t have a huge fanbase from the past who are still against you. Maybe with some potential writing, there'll be a somewhat curious and interested bunch of fans who might tag along or join for the first time. Not including the tiny vocal negative minority that are being misogynistic, along with the tiny negative minority that enter random fandoms only to spread hate and discord, but to include the vast majority of both the massive fanbase for Star Wars, and for other franchises in Lucasfilm, and the general audience, who have enjoyed these films prior to and after the acquisition of LucasFilm by Disney.
The fans have every right to be critical. The fans have every right to voice, the criticisms, loud and strong. The executives, producers, directors, writers and Kathleen Kennedy herself, have power and a right to allow fans (but not toxic haters) to send their criticisms and issues to say whether if something is not working for them, then that will let the company know that they will have to change their strategies and methods so that they can make something that is agreeable to mostly everyone to every participating audience. We have freedom of speech for a reason. These people have power, a right and an ability to allow their fans for feedback and support, and also the ability to report and block haters and trolls.
And it isn’t just the fans that Disney has not alienated. Families throughout the United States are simply ignoring the blatant propaganda in these movies, because there is none. It's all just the usual science-fiction fantasy to families that doesn't relate to bigotry and outside current issues. It's fiction, not something to think far too deeply or seriously with negative thoughts. Parents know of parental guidance in movies, so it is common sense to tell your child what stuff means if they are confused (because adults are mature and know a lot, with their smart brains). The values that they want them to learn or relate to is up to the adults or children themselves if they want to live by them or just have a short temporary thought to forget later on. It is fine to explain the inside values or lessons just as long as it isn't told in the wrong way.
It is the place of Disney to produce high-quality, broadband, appealing entertainment. Both in its cinema productions, its television streaming programs, and in its theme park attractions. High-quality, nationwide or worldwide mass appeal entertainment that is completely free of any propaganda messages, welcomes any narratives (male and female or altogether), and does not intrude into or offend the rights of viewers.
“The Acolyte” has surprised fans AS A TRAILER ON UA-cam! I cannot wait to hear the massive appreciation that it will make, the exhilarating excitement that it will make, when the series itself is released and impacts the foundation for individual and multicultural acceptance. A foundation of thorough cinematic work and financial success built, brick by brick, greenlit by Kathleen Kennedy, and created by Leslye Hedland.

@@Sensor_BeamI am curious what movie you were watching, as it certainly was not the film “The Force Awakens” that I and so many others viewed.
I may have to deconstruct your somewhat odd reply over two or three replies of my own, due to reply length limitations.
The character of Rey did not, in fact, have a significant or particularly coherent character arc, and most definitely not a significant or coherent hero arc. Her life as a scavenger provided her rudimentary survival and fighting skills. The idea that she would simply develop significant fighting skills with her staff that translate into instant expertise with a light saber is ludicrous. At best, she would be a clear and present danger to herself and others
The character of Luke Skywalker trained for, according to the movies and established canon, four years or more under the tutelage of a superlative Jedi, developing considerable skill in both combat and use of the Force, and still had not completed the full training.
Rey picked up a light saber and became “Just The Bestest Ever!” instantly. Her “training”, such as it was, consisted of some conversations about The Force and its use, no significant active guidance or training, and then about a year of being “trained” to become a Jedi by Leia, who you apparently do not know was not and is not herself a Jedi and, despite being acknowledged as being Force sensitive, was not and is not qualified or capable of providing Jedi training.
Rey remains a poorly fleshed out character, who has nothing in the half-assed shred of a character arc given to her to support the skills and capabilities she exhibits. Realistically, both in terms of our reality and the internal “reality” of “Star Wars”.
Rey going up against a fully trained and combat experienced Sith and surviving, let alone defeating her opponent, is simply absurd, whether considered within the reality of our world, or within the fictional reality of the “Star Wars” universe created by George Lucas. We will consider it within the context of our reality.
Women are not capable like men. They never have been, and it has nothing to do with discrimination, or patriarchy, or misogyny, or any of the other emotionally based, reality denying feminist excuses. I am not a feminist. I have no respect for nor tolerance for feminism. It is an intrinsically and explicitly sexist and misandristic movement, one that has dropped even the pretense of seeking equality-that was achieved in 1963/1964 by the passage by a male Congress of legislation guaranteeing equal opportunity and equal pay for equal work, and the signing of that legislation into law by a male President, John F. Kennedy, and legislation in the early 1970s that eliminated the last vestiges of banking and credit access inequality-and now blatantly and militantly seek power, privilege, and advantage in both government and society as a whole, as well as pushing for “equity” instead of equality, equity being an inherently discriminatory concept straight out of the theories of Marxist communism, stripping the earnings and assets of the more productive and talented and “redistributing” what is taken to the less talented and the less productive. I am a humanist, which is focused upon promoting, among other things, equal respect for the genders, truly equal opportunity and not to extra considerations given to women over men in education and in business hiring, and equal pay for objectively equal work. (I am rather hoping that you will come back with the witless myth of the “discriminatory gender pay gap@, which has been refuted by numerous studies. I enjoy humiliating people who still attempt to promote that as being real, as the information refuting it is common knowledge, and people still claiming it exists are consciously lying.)
End of part one. Part two to follow.

    • @johntrench
      @johntrench 7 місяців тому +1

      @@Sensor_Beamlet’s begin part two:
In addition to being a humanist, I am a medical professional, medical/surgical specialist with knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, and a merciless insistence upon facts over feelings.
As stated in my part one post, women are not capable like men, and it has nothing to do with women being excluded in the past. Men and women are morally equal, equal in value as human beings, as persons, equal in intelligence (although the distribution of that intelligence is more polarized in men and is remarkably different in terms of focus and application between men and women), but in no other way. Human males and females evolved for very different roles. Their capabilities are not and never have been the same. They are not and never have been interchangeable.
Human male anatomy differs from from female anatomy in much more than just lack of developed breasts and differently structured genitalia.
Men have far more and far larger skeletal muscle fibers, and are as a result far stronger than women on average. No amount of exercise by women can overcome this disparity. Maximally physically develop the musculature of a man and a woman, and the man will be several orders of magnitude stronger than the woman.
The skeletal structure of human males exhibits several differences from the skeletal structures of human females. Those differences are very significant.
Human male skeletal anatomy evolved to adapt men to the roles and functions for which they evolved: hunting prey, very often much larger and stronger than humans, defending against predatory species, also often larger and stronger than humans, and engaging in combat with other humans, either to defend territory, resources, and tribal members, or to attack in order to ensure needed territory and resources. This is a large part of what human males evolved for.
Human female anatomy in large part evolved to conceive, carry, and bear young. Hip structure, leg structure, joint angles, etc., are remarkably different from those of males.
Brain anatomy is markedly different. The human male brain is 10% to 20% larger than the female brain. This does not translate into nor do I mean it to imply that men are as a consequence more intelligent. As stated before, the data shows quite definitively that men and women are, in general, equally intelligent. It does pertain to the different functions for which men and women evolved, however. There is some literature that shows that the corpus callosum, the tissue that connects the two hemispheres of the brain and permits communication between them, is thinner in men than in women, which would reduce that cross talk to some degree. Other literature, however, does not show that structural difference. In either case, the minds of men are as a consequence of differences in neuroanatomy and neurophysiology in general largely compartmentalized, like a building with separate and distinct “rooms” divided by “walls” and “doors”, while the minds of women are in general more like an open plan building, with different areas for different functions, and for the most part no distinct separation between areas. This is something of an oversimplification, but is essentially accurate. Both were and are essential for the success and survival of our species, and are equally valuable.
While men and women have an equal capacity for logic, reasoning, problem solving, spatial relationships, imagination, creativity, intuition, and emotion, as a consequence of differences in brain anatomy and physiology, men spend the vast majority of their lives in left brain dominant logic, reason, and problem solving, and are relatively disconnected from their emotions, while women in comparison are in both hemispheres at the same time, and spend the vast majority of their lives constantly immersed in their emotions. Even when experiencing emotions, men and women process their emotions very differently. Emotions play an integral role in nearly every aspect of their daily lives, while men have relatively little day to day use for emotions on a day to day basis, save those with utility for hunting, defense, and fighting: anger, fear, and aggression.
Men are in general many orders of magnitude more aggressive than women, while women are many orders of magnitude more agreeable than men. This, too, is a product of human evolution. None of these things are social constructs, and none of these things are opine to differences of opinion. They are purely facts of human biology.
      Stand by for part three.

There have been real life match ups to prove it:
A championship professional mixed martial arts fighter fought against a middle-ranked amateur male mixed martial arts fighter. The male defeated her.
A well trained female Marine who bragged about her prowess, and that she could beat any man, went into the ring against one of her fellow male Marines. The male beat her down, putting her flat on the mat, in mere minutes, without difficulty.
In sports, the Williams sisters, top ranked at the height of their tennis careers, each played against an older middle ranked male tennis player in the decline of his career. He beat them both.
A professional women’s soccer team versus an amateur men’s soccer team. Victory: men’s team.
A top ranked men’s track athlete running against top ranked women’s take athletes. He did not merely beat them, he very nearly lapped them in the process.
Feminist commentators in, I believe, New Zealand (might have been Australia) pushed for a men versus women netball game, to prove that female athletes are every good as male athletes. A top ranked championship female team competed with a team comprised of teenaged young men. The young men mopped the court with them. The feminist commentators then criticized the young men for defeating the women’s team instead of either throwing the game or forfeiting, showing the lack of fairness, the disrespect for respect for men, the hypocrisy, and the lack of integrity that is characteristic of today’s iteration of feminism.
In the United States armed forces, soldiers had to be on frontline combat status in order to be eligible for promotion into the higher commissioned ranks. Feminists pushed for combat status for women claiming discrimination. The regulations changed and combat status was enacted for women. None applied. The big brass had to push women into accepting combat status. The women were unable to meet the combat fitness and combat readiness requirements. In order to enable the female soldiers to meet combat fitness and readiness requirements, the military branches had to cut them down for women, lowering them to just about one half of what men are required to meet, AND to give the females extra chances and modified conditions before the women were able to just barely squeak by. Even now, it is a low percentage of women in the military who seek combat readiness status.
Please note that there are women serving as combat pilots, helicopter and jet, and transport pilots, and they serve with distinction. It would appear, however, that all of the “stunning and brave, strong and independent” women want to be eligible for the privilege of promotion without limit, very few of them beyond the pilots are particularly willing to fulfill the responsibility to put their lives on the line that comes with that privilege, apparently preferring to leave the actual risk of death exclusively to men. And virtually none of them can meet the standards men must meet to have the same privilege. All of those are both long-standing traditions, biological realities of comparative physical capabilities, and are blatantly discriminatory-against men, by women.

Perfect examples of strong female characters are every female lead in Studio Ghibli films.
Sophie, Arriety, Chihiro, Kiki, San, and Umi are phenomenal characters who demonstrate a wide range of traits, from bravery, compassion, resilience, ambition, integrity, and love. All of those traits are both feminine and masculine when applied correctly to characters that have depth, relate to the audience, and have something to root for. Women (and men) aren't necessarily bound to traits generally seen as feminine or masculine. Forcing masculinity into a female character because it drives the plot is totally different than the woman becoming (or is) masculine based on circumstances that develop the character.
Changing genres: an example of that is Sadie Adler. We find her as this helpless woman whose husband was murdered before her eyes and how she was abused by the Driscolls. Two chapters later, we see her evolve into a dependent woman with a progressing story arc of seeking street justice for her husband. Her "girl boss" felt evolved based on the circumstances that developed her as a character. If Saddie were immediately overbearing or overstrengthed, we wouldn't believe her progress as much as we do. Same with the Ghibli female protagonists.
Disney, make a compelling story, not an agenda you wish to be accepted by an audience seeking entertainment.

They're both incredibly strong female characters with strong personalities and morals, and very clear goals in mind. Their genders are never really brought up at all. They're written very organically. They don't try to raise themselves up by trampling over other characters.
