Hi Jake,
Thank you for showing us the backstage, it's always very interesting...
A lot of drums to carry for this studio session. I've never seen a drummer carry so much material for a studio session in France.
Plus Josh picking up the equipment and transporting it.
My first question is: "How much is it paid???"
Thanks dude! Yes, it's a lot of drums but they all have a purpose!
This might be my favourite video series of yours! It's so fun to tag along.
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it!
Love your musicality in playing, you're so good man. So fun to watch and Pet Sounds studio.... overwhelming! Congrats.
Thanks!
LOVE this kind of footage! I'm locked in man and waiting for the next one!
Most-accurate drum vlogging, ever. Your collection reminds me of when I worked at a music store in Michigan (Huber & Breese Music), they had boxes of the older "auxiliary percussion" items for percussion ensemble bands, and they're so high-quality because they're still used today! Also - New Beat Cymbals, etc. Great stuff. I wish I didn't sell some of my older stuff!
Thanks man! Yes, the older perc stuff sounds soooooo good!
@@JakeReedmusic So true!
I need a drummer like you in my life.
Insanely cool, you should keep doing these! How long were you recording for?
This session was only one day.
Man this is so cool! Thanks for sharing 🙏🏽
I absolutely love watching your videos and i do have the notification bell selected but it never shows me when you post. I just have to check every niw and then. And i am watching youtube every day the moment as im stuck in bed with injuies.
Awesome work Jake.
Sorry about your basement! My buddy had the same thing happen (took on ~8" water) and he's had to gut the entire place. PITA!
Love the "Oceans" vibe.
Keep this series going! Awesome awesome awesome🙌
Will do!
I fucking love your videos. Best drum content on the entire internet.
Great vídeo Jake! Thanks!
Love these videos Jake!
Love this kind of content! I'd love to see more nitty gritty nerdy stuff
Great video.
This is sooo cool! Love this kind of content Jake. I would love some thoughts/ideas/tips on acquiring percussion! Are you mainly looking on used internet marketplaces?
Thanks! Best thing to do is check Reverb, Ebay, etc often. I’ve find some cool stuff in antique stores too!
4:44 are those tuned cowbells on the right? I know Bill Bruford used them in the 70s, and I always loved how they sounded
bravo.... always enjoy...
Greats from the weisswurscht Equator
Thanks!
Nice man, fine assortment of instruments you brought. How did you have your cue mix set up for the session and were there any visual cues from the show?
Damn dude, I thought you was just a badass bedroom warrior like I, turns out your doing session work at east west....heh.....samsonite, I was waaaaay off! Killer video should been longer actually felt like it ended to soon
Thanks dude!
Hi Jake,
Thank you for sharing this great content. It’s really nice to see the life of a session drummer depicted so clearly. I work in Nashville and I am just starting to work on big enough projects where cartage would be an option. How do you go about setting that up? Do you roll that into your fee or bill separately? Thanks again for the great stuff. I am definitely going to be adding to my perc collection after seeing this haha
Thanks man! I work with Angel City Drum Works here in LA. They are one of a few cartage/drum tech companies in town. Basically, I call them and say “hey, I’ve got a session on such and such date at this studio at this time.” They work very closely with all the studios in town with delivery, set-up, teching, rentals, etc, so it makes the whole process very seamless. They will bill the client separately. It’s really the best way to go b/c A) I don’t own a giant van to haul all my stuff around in; B) if I had to haul it all around by myself and then set it all up and then do an 8-10 hour session and then tear it all down and load it all out I’m not sure I’d make it; C) our job is to give our full attention/energy to the music we’re recording, so you’ve got to be fresh and ready to work. If you’ve just spent 3 hours loading in/setting up by yourself you’re probably not going to be in the right headspace to serve the music. Anyway, hope this helps!
What a fun project! What film or can you not disclose?
I don't think I can say yet ... but yeah ... super fun!
Great video, real fun to see. Are those Yamaha Quartz Grey 14x8 snare and 18" bass drum I see there on the shelf part of the legendary Erskine kit? If so, did he have lot of drum sizes with that kit? After all the hours watching this kit on his old VHS tapes it would be real fun to hear the whole story of the kit?
Thanks! The 18” bass drum was part of his kit. I got another quartz grey RC in slightly different sizes from another great session drummer in town that came with the 14x8 from the same era.
@@JakeReedmusic Nice, I had a QG RC kit back in the day that I bought new in 1987 and then little later got the Erskine 14x4 1. signature snare. Miss that one :) Perhaps your QGs should get a special video, legendary drums :)
What brand is that leather cymbal bag and where did you get it? Planning on doing a lil early birthday shopping haha
You sound killer! How long does this take you guys to setup?
Thanks! It took about an hour to setup and get sounds. Usually everything is setup ahead of time, but since there was a morning session before us we had to start from zero.
Really interesting stuff. Where did you formally train. 🐻
Thanks! Cincinnati conservatory and USC Thornton School.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. At 5:39, what type of Piccolo snare is it? Is it wood or metal? Is it 13 or 14 inch?
Pearl 3x13 ... got it for $80 but that was like 20 years ago.
very very good video :) i know you werent engineering, but with other videoes ive seen you use the sennheiser md441 a fair few times. what are your thoughts on it, worth the hype? debating getting one since my uni studios dont have any, and i want to have a more versatile dynamic mic choice than a 7b or 57/58
Love 441s!
@@JakeReedmusic anything you’ve found them to be particularly good for except snare bottom?
@@oliboyden3683 toms!
What’s the name or brand of those springy cowbells? 1:12
Engelhart percussion
Where can i hear the end result?
It's not out yet! We just recorded it! But ... eventually it will be ... not sure if I can share the name of the movie yet.
dope! who was engineering?
Brendan Dekora! He's really great.
Moved the studio into the garage? Or is it your studio 2?
Lol nvm I comment as I watch
@@jonsolor1176 LOL
Nice!
