Yes, you've always got to have a little help. She's getting old and cant do much anymore, so has to stay at home in retirement while I go camping. Thanks for watching.
I got mine about two weeks ago. Theres a few things I’ve learned with it. Every time you put the top on and off to put it way or take it out, it scrapes the two indents on the nonstick causing some to flake off. Sometimes big pieces sometimes just fine powder. Regardless I don’t like it in my food. Second, putting the pot grabber in if you don’t do it exact, will scrape the hell out of your pot, even if you are careful. Third lol. The stand sits just a little high in the kit causing it to eventually go through the plastic scraping your nonstick. So, I filed down the pot stand and rounded the edges slightly. Then I put a rubber band around the pot holder when putting it away. Then I put a paper towel down at the bottom with it, overlapping out at the top, shove my stove in standdown in there, put the pot holder on as normal kind of wanted the paper towels in between the pot so that it doesn’t scrape it and put the lid on. Also, I make sure there’s a paper towel in the nonstick as well with an overlap so that it bites down on the paper towel while putting the lid on instead of scraping the tabs. Most people don’t care that much, but I like my things to stay nice, and I don’t like eating Teflon, or finding it in my food. Anyway, maybe that’ll help keep your site nice.
Yes, I came to much the same conclusion as you. I filed the edges and use the pot cleaner sponge between the gripper and the pan to stop scratching. Seems to work OK. I usually use paper towels to both stop scratching, and stop rattling while its in my pack. A bit of wear and tear over time is OK by me, but I like to keep them looking reasonably nice. Besides, a little wear and tear and some age lines, and they will look like me! Thanks for watching, i appreciate it.
I bought a different gripper after a few months of owning it (bought mine in late 1986). I put silicone covers on the "feet" of the new gripper. I've seen some companies actually adding this now.
U sound like what back in the day a person like u was called a an old fuss pot I think u should stick to ordering through uber eats a meal while ur somewhere in the bush and save all the unnessery proloned drawnout hassle repacking the most simplistic cook ware ever best of luck next time using it .
Her name is Josie. She used to come with me, but is getting old and is now taking a well earned retirement. I think the pot washing system will catch on.
I've had one since later 1986, I still use it. Held up extremely well over the years, I replaced the lid/pan once after it got ran over. Coatings are still good too!
Hi from Finland. 😊 I am planning to buy T28 but hesitating a bit. After watching you cooking with it I won't hesitate anymore. Thank you. 🫶 Ps. Love your furry potlicker❤😁
Its a great set. However, I do find the bowl a little small for stews etc. Its fine for a soup or noodle dish, in other words a quick meal. I have a heap of Trangia gear and I dont regret buying any of it. Thanks for watching.
Very nicely done review 👏. Clearly one of my favorite kits. Love the T28 Mini. Bought it when it first came out as a new product in the Trangia products lineup. Still one of my regular GO-TO kits of choice.
First, you're a good Dog 🐕 Dad 👨 ❤ . Next, the T28 is an unsung great piece of kit. Had mine for years now and used it a lot, second only to my T27 STORMCOOKER. Super good for Kayaking trips and short distance day hiking solo.
Watched this video as I've been looking for an ultra-lightweight stove I can take with me on longer bushwalks and kayak trips. I know a lot of people rave about the quick boiling time and efficiency of Jetboil. However gas cartridges take up weight. The empty ones end up as deadweight in your pack and there is also the availability issue. What appeals to me with this stove is the weight and easy availability of meths. When I was a Scout 34 years ago, we used to dilute the meths 5% with water to eliminate any soot on our Trangia's. I think your video might be decider on me actually dropping some cash on one of these.
Thanks, Im glad I helped. The only negative over using the Mini as opposed to the Jetboil is that the Mini can be effected by the wind, so a windshield of some type is a good idea. Yes, I dilute with 10%, but that depends on the quality of the meths. Thanks for watching.
Nice little review, our dog can’t be used as a furry pot licker as he’s trained not to seek human food. Like the unit very much, smart buying rich dad 😜 I purchased a shiny knock off of it myself a few months back but just haven’t had the time to play with it, inspired me to do a video one day.
Josie the dog, is trained to take food on command, so no issues with her ongoing. Besides, she likes cheese and eggs and gets them regularly. Dunno about smart buying but I do like the Trangia systems.
Provided your order is over the minimum value to get freight free, its cheaper. On some things significantly so. The real advantage is the range. Locally we get a very small range of product. It usually takes 5 - 7 days to arrive, so its quick.
Great German Shepherd buddy you've got there. I love the design of the T-28, I just wish it were made of HA or SS. I might have to grab one anyway because the design is so good. I have the Triangle, 27, & 28 in Duossal so I need o a 28 to round out the collection... plus it'd be so handy to pack on my motorcycles. Great video, new Subscriber.
The dog is Josie. She came to us via the pound as a rescue dog. She's getting on a bit. I do agree about the mini and would love to see it in HA like my 25 & 27. But it does have its limitations. If you're a big eater like me, then the 27 is just big enough and that makes the mini too small for most things. Thanks for the sub, much appreciated.
@@OAPAdventures Josie is a great name. I had a Shepherd like her as a teenager. A couple was going to put her down just because they were getting a divorce. She was the best dog I’ve had in my life. I’ll probably pair the 28 up with the Triangle since they are both so compact. Have a great day. John aka pinkie from Northern California.
@@pinkiewerewolf Yep, we have had a few Shepherds and I couldnt imagine the house without one living with us. Happy Fourth of July, unless Im a day late?
I've had the mini Trangia for about 6 years and never had a single issue with the grippers or any of it. 5 days from Sweden, gotta love that. Auspost can't even deliver some pliers 3000km within 7 days here 😅
Same here. NZ Post is not the fastest service! The only issue I have with the Mini is the size. Im a big eater, so sometimes the bowl is a little small. Thanks for watching.
Nice review, just wondering what version of Meths you use as fuel in the trangia burner, i see Mitre10 has the clear meths as an alternative to the regular pink/purple.
Thanks. I currently use the purple stuff from Mitre 10. Ive seen the clear at Bivouac and Living Simply in Auckland, but havent used it recently. I have had no issues with the purple meths, but I do dilute 10% with water. That seems to not effect the burn but reduces the soot significantly. I have used a variety of meths over the years and dont worry about brand etc. I just buy whatever is on the shelf.
Great review and loved the furry pot licker at the end. Are they available on the trangia website too? 😂 The T28 is great isn’t it. Just bought one myself and already I can see that we’re going to have some fine adventures together.
No, the pot locker isn't on the website. Local shelter have them, that's where I got mine. The only drawback I see with the t28 is that's it's a little small if you have a big appetite. But I like it. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the recipe idea mate, looks bloody good. I also think the pot grippers are fine, but I reckon the "wind shield" is rubbish so it's long gone. Instead I have wee titanium twig stove as a wind shield. Love Trangia stuff though. I started by buying a cheep knock-off but the real deal is so much better.
It IS allowed in California unless there’s a fire ban, don’t know where you get your information from but is not accurate, I live in California camping for 40+ years. In case of fire ban the 25 and 27 Trangia systems are fine providing you have the gas canister insert at all times. Also most times when there are fire bans you’re still allowed fires in paid campgrounds with live in camp host. The camp host will tell you if and when it changes to absolutely no live fire which will be also posted at the campground’s entrance but again you can use the Trangia canister insert. The Firebox can be used when there are no bans on top of the fire pit stabilized on a metal tray, but it can also be used anytime with the canister insert. I camp several times a year and make sure I know the regulations. Please get your facts straight before making statements that are not true.
@@OAPAdventures I have both the Trangia 27 and the Firebox but I also have the gas insert, sometimes the total ban has caught me in the middle of the trip (about 3 consecutive weeks is my average) in which case I switch to the insert and I’m completely legal. Just one of the reasons I love these stoves. Is also a good idea to carry a fire extinguisher in your car at all times just in case, I car/tent camp thus weight is not an issue.

You can also use a esbit fuel tablet in the stove, instead of the Trangia alcohol burner in an emergency, and it works very well.
