Camp in a Wet River Valley, Lower Mangatawhiri, Hunua Ranges.
A wet, solo overnight camp at the Lower Mangatawhiri campground in the Hunua Ranges, New Zealand. There was rain at camp overnight and everything in the morning was wet. It is only autumn, so it wasnt cold, just wet.

    What does the base of the saucepans look like? Are they also milled like the fry pan? Seems to me that the milled surface will attract soot deposit. What is your experience with this?

    Thanks for the good video. I just ordered the micro light version with a gel burner. We also have Trangia 35 with all accessories and gas burner. It is for family use. 35 is the same as 25, but it is black. I have used the Esbit stove mod the most, which uses a Trangia alcohol burner and a gas burner. In addition, it can also burn wood. Maybe I'll get a Trangia multi fuel burner someday. We have quite a lot of Trangia products, but the 27 model is still missing and the multi fuel burner. 😄 In Finland, even the army uses Trangia. A hundred year old invention and it still works. That's quite an achievement.

    UCO MESS set : Le mot mess a été emprunté à l'anglais au xve siècle ; le terme anglais lui-même vient de l'ancien français mes (que l'on écrit mets en français moderne), issu du latin mittere. Le mess désignait au xiiie siècle un plat cuisiné ou liquide (comme la bouillie ou la soupe), puis au xve siècle un groupe de personnes mangeant ensemble. 😉 Super vidéo, Good Job !!!

    interested to know your pack weights for a 2 or 3 night trip with tent

    • @OAPAdventures
      @OAPAdventures 2 місяці тому

      I dont weigh my gear, so its a guess. Going from manufacturers specs, the pack, sleep pad, quilt and tent add up to around 5 kg. With all the other stuff, clothes, food, filter, billy, stove etc, I would think around 11 kg. The biggest variance for me is the amount of food I take. I have found that with a good pack harness a couple of kg's either way doesnt seem to make much difference for me.

    Personally I have the mini. I can do much more with it. The alcohol gel , hand sanitizer does work. As does emptying old chafing burner tins. Hexamine blocks broken up are also good. On fuel economy, with a spirit burner. Adding up to 10% water will make the spirit go further, with little or no difference to the performance. Adding the water will also knock the sooting on the head. Making clean up a bit easier…..

    Really informative video, thank you! I live in Perth, Western Australia and I'm also thinking of buying a Pronto 4. Just wondering if you have used it in windy conditions and how well it performed? I'm also a little concerned that the awning doesn't cover the sides, so in rain and wind could rain find its way into the tent that way?

    • @OAPAdventures
      @OAPAdventures 3 місяці тому

      Its fine in the wind. I use all the ropes and keep things tight. The awning is small and doesnt protect from the rain as much as I would like. I try to pitch the tent with the rear facing the wind/weather so the rain blows over the tent. If the rain is coming from one side of the tent, I will drop the awning on that side by reducing the height of the pole and zipping the awning further down the tent sides. You can see that in the thumbnail photo. Its not perfect, but it mostly works. In saying that, I have been out in very heavy rain and strong winds. However, there are better options for a Zempire tent if you are looking for an awning that fully covers the sides. Thanks for watching.

    Good to see you out and about, hope that your knee is healing ok. It looks like a nice camp site, New Zealand looks like a lovely place too. I recommended that you could store your fold a cup inside the mini and micro Trangias in another video, but you own the big, 600 ml one, rather than the little 200 ml one, so sorry if I mislead you. The little one fits, the big definitely doesn't! Safe camping!

      Thats OK about the cup. Im starting to think its too big, anyway. I only half fill it so should probably look at buying the smaller one. Thanks for watching.

    Approximately named channel “Occasional” 😊 Bud, I missed you and was getting close to calling to see what’s up! Nice to see you’re out and about still, as you can see my knees are holding up 🙃

      Looks like my knee is way worse than first thought. My big days in the hills might be over. I do remember some-one very knowledgeable in all matters of outdoor stuff saying that you are part pack horse, part mountain goat... 40ks in a day?? I was impressed. Happy to talk anytime, about anything.

    Trangia for me too for so many reasons. Bought my original duossal 25 back in the mid 1990's and just about to order the mini and micro cup to couple with a Bushline Designs Titanium Windshield from Pack Gear Go in Nelson- they need a windshield and this combo works good. As well as direct from Trangia, Varuste in Finland is another good source price wise.

      Im definitely a Trangia fan-boy. I just can't see better in terms of price v function. But, I am biased. I'll check out Pack Gear Go, sounds like some good stuff. Thanks for watching.

    Happy hobbling! I share a knee issue with you. Reaching our 60s and after thousands of miles of wear and tear I guess our poor old knees have every right to object. Just a technical question: is it a GoPro you are using? What are you using to edit your material? Whatever combination you use the quality is excellent. Keep up the good work! I like your laidback style of presentation.

      Yep, a bad knee is not a good thing. As you say, everything comes at a price. I use a GoPro 11 and a GoPro Max for the invisible selfie style shots. Nothing fancy. Editing software is the free version of Da Vinci Resolve. Its a steep, but not difficult learning curve. I probably use about 20% of its capability. That laid back style is just me. Im always being told that Im not going to die of a heart attack!! Thanks for the compliment, and watching.
