  • Someone gave us one of their productive spots to film. We were not disappointed! Lots of striped bass at this location! Such a fun dive!

I was always afraid of the waters and now that I look into it it's actually really experiencing and you're discovering history that's been lost long ago. I might get training in scuba diving. Conquer my fear of water.

Same here. I wish I could enjoy this beautiful place, but I'm so scared, so I'm going to do the same thing to help get over it. Good luck to you!

Don’t know if u even have the boat or are still actively diving but I run a charter boat out of new London and I’m sure you’ve heard of Valiant rock on the east end of the race. The green buoy basically. I took a crew of spear fisherman out there fishing with rod and reel and they told me “yeah we spearfish at the race all the time “ I was like yeah right. Tides too strong and I’ve never seen anyone out there in the water. But what do you know, next weekend they were there prob to prove a point. But that’s a crazy place to scuba at. The rock is like the size of a 3 family house by itself with massive sea life around it. Just have to be there at slack water. If I want to be able to actually film something while not drifting through at scary speeds

This is kind of in the area of the race....

there is a pretty neutral slack tide there around 1 hr to 1.25 hrs both sides of slack, maybe they go spearfishing then

@@mattlechner8442 we used to see spear fishermen at the race occasionally. And one time they actually chartered our boat for a fishing trip and I was full of questions for what they saw under the water. I have an obvious mental picture of it. But I wanted details. So they would drop in and basically let the tide take them right past the valiant rock spot. Tide rips through there so you’re zipping and everything is coming & going fast. I was asking where the big fat striped bass were hiding. They said there’s occasional big boulders on the bottom and everyone had a huge bass around it I thought it was pretty cool. There’s slack tides everyday and the worst fishing times for us we’re always slack tide. Captain used to say to eat lunch during slack tide. The fish need some tide to feed. Smaller fish get thrown around in the strong tide and predators take advantage

@@judd0112 the general wisdom is that baitfish come in great numbers at the front of the incoming tide, pretty sure this applies to bluefish fishing strategy not sure if striped bass eat the same baitfish I don't believe so but maybe some. I don't know that striped bass are attracted to spots where there's a lot of tide, I think strong tides make for a good bluefishing spot however. Not a huge amount of spear fishing in this corner of the world but if that's what turns your crank you can try I suppose. Not sure you'd want to be in the water if there are a lot of blues in the area, they do bite and can pretty easily get into a feeding frenzy. Lots of water gets sucked in, and out of this particular spot, no doubt, due to the very strong tides. I've heard the tides can make for some real chop around there, but I've never been there when it was really rough, thankfully.

Thanks for the video, subscribed as I want to learn a few things from you.
Today was my first dive in the Sound, off Bridgeport, CT, I did two dives, around a lighthouse, 15 to 23 Feet only and 3 feet visibility.
I have a number of dives in South FL, love it, enjoy it and always looking forward to dive. I did not feel the same way today, thought it was absolutely nothing to see, but lots of bottom time to practice my skills and breathing.
What to do and how to enjoy the green water, low visibility and little life in shallow waters? Where to go?
Thank you again and I am here to learn and become a better and safer diver.
