    The two most accurate ways I've heard giftedness described is by Allison Kinzer and a tumblr post explaining the struggle of growing up gifted. The problem with being gifted is you're learning everything out of the natural order that everybody else uses and then you're struggling with things others learned awhile ago. It's frustrating and it's difficult to deal with, but hopefully it's all worth it to everyone.

    ❤ as highly intelligent AuDHDer this really is spot on, and as a mom to a girl with the exact same type of brain, the struggles to fit in which we never really achieve anyway, and the way we learn and see the world is so extremely different and so misunderstood.
    It is difficult as a parent despite having the same type of brain and learning styles as my child to communicate with the school and the teachers what she needs to thrive academically, we learn so fast when we are interested and holding us back in a standard pace of teaching, will only makes us feel less than others and make school boring and feel like a waste of time. It simply shots our brain on sleep mode if we don't get a higher difficulty level.
    It is so difficult to explain and get teachers to understand, especially when we are so good at matching others to fit in, so home we see all the learning joy and progress, but in school it is boring and she is unable to kickstart her brain due to the assignments don't give her any dopamine or energy to the brain.
    Learning needs to be fun and exciting no matter how your brain works, and how fast or slow you learn or what your interests are.
    I just want my girl to have the possibility to be the best she can be in all areas of life, despite being different from most, different is not bad it is just different and we should use eachothers differences to stand stronger together, not to categories normal or abnormal or right and wrong.
    I wish difference was seen as a positive asset to society not as something that needs to be adjusted to fit the standard of majority as it is "the right way to be".

    Giftedness is like gifts in general: usually the Giver removes the price tag first.

    I don't support the idea of "multiple intelligences", only fluid intelligence or G. It is rather skills, not intellect. It helps to have high intelligence to learn skills. But being skilled does not mean you are intelligent, it means you are skilled in a skill. You can learn a skill, but you cannot learn to be intelligent. Intellect is something you are born with and shaped with the development of the brain, based on psychological stress and intake of nutrients and stuff.

    I think a lot of people are misdiagnosed as gifted. Just high IQ does not make you gifted. Nor does excelling at university make you gifted. There are very few gifted people in society and the stigma might be casued by overdiagnosis of "giftedness"

    The know it all label is particularly hurtful.

  • @DaveWard-xc7vd
    @DaveWard-xc7vd 6 років тому +7

    When all factors are normed only one intelligence remains G. General intelligence.
    The multiple intelligence theory is a poor attempt to soften the news that differences in IQ exist between individuals, genders and races and in developed countries IQ is 80 genetic and 20% environmental.

    • @Snagabott
      @Snagabott 6 років тому

      Is it though? I think that bodily-kinesthetic is a bit unusual to list as "intelligence", but other than that you could imagine being highly above the norm in one category and much below the norm in another. Only if strong correlation between all of these can be shown, it would be more useful to throw the concept out and instead go with a single number G; expressed as a "G=x, except for disability Y and Z" model in the ones who don't fit.

      Good luck proving that. Based on what I have roughly observed, I would disagree. If you come from a not-well-off family, chances are your iq is going to be lower. If you smoke dope, your IQ is going to be lower. If you spend too much time trolling on youtube, your IQ is going to be lower.

  • @paracletusrevelation4080

    So basically what she' s saying is that you don' t have to exceed anybody in anything to be considered gifted???

    • @anonymouse1323
      @anonymouse1323 6 років тому +16

      Paracletus Revelation What she is saying is that labels don't matter. Because a student has low grades doesn't mean he/she is not gifted. Similar to that, because a student has high grades does not mean he/she is not gifted.
      A student that has low grades that is gifted could have low grades because simply, they are not challenged. This leads to boredom in which they do not want to participate as they feel it is an insult to their intelligence. BUT their low grades do not define their ability to solve problems (or iq).
      Oh, and hi :P
