If Chrono's mom had never woken him up, had he slept in just one day, the entire history of their world would have been set to a horrible fate. Forever. - _Rise and shine._
"On that day, mankind received a grim reminder. We lived in fear of LAVOS and were disgraced to live in these ill fated world we called unreversable time"
I never beat the game as a teenager. When cleaning out my childhood home after my dad died, I found a bunch of my old games and finally beat Chrono Trigger in January 2016. I was 33 by then. This ending definitely made me feel like part of my life had concluded.
@@eriol33 Yeah. And that is my favorite ending actually. It was just Chrono and Marle amidst a sea of stars... just Chrono and Marle with their future being unknown and their possibilities as countless as the stars themselves. The whole game had been about preventing a future from happening. And then it turned into creating a future. And perhaps that's what Chrono Trigger is all about. The Chrono Trigger allowed someone to change one instant in time. And yet we all have that same power, every second of every day. What future will we create? what future will you create? And what will those far away times and far away lands be? We don't have an epoch to find out. We only have our hands and hearts. Much love to you and all of my Radical Dreamers out there!
In a way, the game tells you that the epoch MUST survive and you need to revive Chrono. At this part this is where endings diverge: Go to Apocalypse, where you can face off with Lavos, go to the evil lair that JUST surfaced and face Lavos at full power, or revive Chrono and weaken Lavos' power. The worst ending is where the world refuses to change.
This ending was the first time I really felt a sense of accomplishment in gaming. I remember trying to defeat Lavos many times but when it finally happened and seeing this ending, it holds a place in my heart. God I love this game.
The goodbye was sad but even sadder the momentum of the music changed and the dialogue between lucca and robo. First time I ever cried in any video game ending. Never felt so happy yet sad yet inspired. What a fucking incredible game, what a soundtrack. I can see how ff7 was definitely inspired by this game in some specific major ways.
yeah its such a powerful scene, love and 'hate' when works of fiction does that...because its like you are saying goodbye as well to the characters you grown to like
It took me a week to finish this game to this ending, and it was really worth a week to finish this. I was really wrong back then because I had a low impression to the game, and boy the regret I realize. I know there are more endings but this game really made an another grand accomplishment in my gaming life :')
"So... you're going to search for Schala?" These siblings really have a life of full pain. I really had wish they meet up again in Chrono Cross... but... all theories bring me but more sadness... Schala and Magus deserves be together again!
this is the ending i got on my first playthrough. apparently i did an optional boss on the black omen. shit was a hell of a challenge at level 45. but it was worth it. such a great game.
OH OMG! I remember this! I havent seen this endinging since the game came out! I have watched a few endings over the years. But i totaly forgot about this one. just ... remembering something i havent seen in like 25 years. i played this game when it came out and could not put it down untill i got my playstation and resident evil and tomb raider. :D
Foking goosebumps! I still rember this game clearly one of the best #1 jrpg to me the story is hella roller coaster adventure!! Imagine this in remake!! Imagine they travel all era 😭😭 also robo part makes me cry !!! 🥺🥺😭 This game is so much treasure ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Questo per me è il miglior finale mai fatto in un gdr. Ulteriormente migliorato con le sequenze animate di Akira Toriuama. Aspetto con impazienza che possa essere scaricato su ps4.
Watch the ending of the second season of the anime series Rewrite, as its almost an exact match for the ending to Chrono Trigger right down to the final scene of earth from space.
I remember when this game came out back when I was 7 or 8 years old and it was a big deal at the time. A relative of mine had it and let me borrow it and I basically sucked at it and didn't get far on it so I went on to other games. Around 20 years later I saw that it was on the PlayStation Store for the PlayStation 3 from the PlayStation version of the game so I bought it and played though it and that's when I understood why the game was such a big deal and why it's a timeless classic now. This game has the most bittersweet ending I have ever seen in a video game. It was sad to see those characters have to leave after getting to know them and seeing everything that they had been through. At the same time it was positive and happy since they did stop Lavos and you knew what you had prevented and you also get to see that everything was fine for them back in their correct times and seeing the Epoch flying by in the distance, especially that part when Frog stops to look at it. The PlayStation version has a cutscene that plays after the credits that showed a little bit more of what happened with some of the characters. It's too bad that they didn't think of these details back when they released the SNES version. Edit: One of the reasons this extra cutscene was made was to show how Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross were tied to each other. If you haven't played Chrono Cross don't be surprised if you get thrown off by the part at the end of the video. ua-cam.com/video/1Sr9bmSjTt8/v-deo.html

Fun fact. Time travel immunity dictates that Doan will not be overwritten by a new version of himself that never knew the apocalypse. The law of Time Bastardry dictates that the version of him that never knew the apocalypse will be erased at the exact moment he would otherwise have entered the gate to 1000 ad. This means he will never be free of his memories of the wasteland On a lighter note, Lara is only able to ask Taban to dance because Lucca went back and stopped her from having ever been paralyzed. Because Lara never entered the gate afterward, she is not time travel immune, so the version tjay was never paralyzed is the one who stayed around
Oh that's great! It kinda bothered me that no one said anything to him when he entered the portal. But to know that only he and Robo and no one else will remember those times puts me at ease. OH, now that I think about it, he may actually be the new king/overseer or whatever of Guardia! YAY Thanks for sharing that!
Hey you know what. This actually reminds me. This is the true ending for Chrono Trigger, with that being said.. I feel like Chrono Cross was like a sequel to the other sort of good ending, where Chrono and Marle fly on the balloon at the end. I think that ending leads to Chrono Cross. Cause I thought in Chrono Cross they talk about different dimensions too and that one timeline Guardia got overthrown, and in another timeline it was just fine. If not, then it also tells us that even in the world of Chrono Trigger. there had been other baddies and wars out there beside Lavos.
Fuck modern games, this is where its at. If they ever actually do a Chrono trigger remake. I will genually not accept it. The last thing I want to happen is another amazing classic as this be tarnish by all the modern bull shit like politics, feminism, present lingo and realistic protrayal of characters to promote and turn them into TV stars with all the females becoming sex objects. HELL to the NO!! Games like these are old relics of a bygone era and not meant to screw with. Its like the Titanic that sits at the bottom of the ocean. An ancient part of our cultural history that should die in piece and never be tranish by human greed. Technology has just proven time and again that its destroyed the medium what was once considered a representive cultured piece of art. There is a reason why Chrono Trigger is such a beloved game because its untouched by human hands. FF VII doesn't really have that value to it any more as its been completly written and re-created where many fandom see the compiliation as the definitive version and representation of the FF VII universe over the source material which is very sad because Cloud was never meant to be protrayed realistically, the design and concept art for FF VII derives from old 90's anime asthetics and thats how it always should have been but when AC came out, that all changed.
No sorry I just beat the game on a SNES I bought here in Japan, and I had the perfect ending, the same that this one but I had Glenn defeat Magus earlier in the game, so in the end frog became Glenn again and watched the ship from the castle.
Ha! Lots of folks playing on emulators get stuck on the button combo to open the door in the dome. I know it took me a little google time to figure out the trick.
"Caution! Oil has washed over my sight sensors. Sight diminished..."

I remember being so happy when I finally beat this game. And then I felt so sad that it was over.
Youk know the song "to far away time's" playing as you see the Epoch in the distance was suppose to extract thos exact emotions

This game js like 20+ hours long brah
Rest in Peace Akira Toriyama 🕊❤
I still get misty eyed every time I see the epoch streak across those distant horizons...
And seeing Robo and his girl sharing a brighter future (sniff).
Frog looking at it breaks me down every time.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one. Back then I thought, "I probably am. I mean, it's just a game... right?"
canonically, it doesn't seem epoch survives.

the party is disbanded, but each member can always visit eachother

I'm 40. I first played this game when I was about 15. I always get a tear at that part. Every time.
I get teary to this day. Getting teary now.
There are two types of people in the world: those who cry during that scene and those who lie. 🥲
And my heart skips a beat and pumps harder at 9:05 when the music starts!
The end theme reminds me of the cliche Facebook line.
Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened

That shot of Frog looking over the bridge at the Epoch will forever be iconic.

Be excellent to each other. And party on dudes!
In my headcannon Chrono and Marle got married and had many children.
Marle: Go after them?! But the Gate's...
Marle: Lucca, don't turn off your brain, yet!
Lucca: I forgot! We have a Time Machine!
lmao! when chronos mom goes into portal his reaction is hilarious
but shouldnt this be the 2nd best ending to the true ending were Chrono and Marle ride the baloons together after destroying the Epoch ?
Vitoamiibo Depends on how you look at it. Just a matter of perspective.
The Spirited Away of RPGs. CT always leaves you wanting more!
Honestly, that's the only "flaw" of the game. If that's a game's only flaw, then you know it's a masterpiece.
