Somehow not easy, on the record he probably recorded two or three overdubs on different notes. They maybe were not too sure about the right one but Gene and Eric did a good work.
@@snakedoktor6020 Well he had probably blown his falsetto, which makes it hard to reach some notes because you have already started to belt up in that register (almos mixing) so you end up with a voice crack when you are trying to go just falsetto.

Huh? Are you sure? The Elder is horrible. It was in '81 and still is today. This is not a rock album. This is not a Kiss record. Ace and Eric Carr knew it was a mistake but they were overruled. Gene and Paul will admit today the record is awful. COTN from '82 blows this record away. In this performance you can easily see that Paul cannot hit the high notes that he did in the studio and the breakdown section with the keyboards should've been edited out.
@@davidstovall8573 Well for me Ace always bugged me because imo he plays sloppy and very unclean. Picking technique is a big mistery and he only uses 3 fingers on the fretting board which limits speed and diversity.

Ace es un mísico que hace sencillo todo lo que es muy difícil. Sin gran técnica, desarrolla melodías sublimes. Siempre fue el alma de Kiss, hoy es monotonía pura.
Ten minutes ago I was watching video with Opeth's Mikael Åkerfeldt talking about various albums he bought recently. I was not suprised he spoke highly positive about Music from the Elder, especially The Oath and Under the Rose. This is truly great album, no matter what traditional hard rock/heavy metal fans have to say about it. It would be even better if Paul was not singing falseto on Oath and Just a boy chorus and if they keep original Ace's solos - that's why the live version of Oath is so much better IMO.
young Kiss fans in Scandinavia had a different concept of the band since they were isolated from what American fans said or thought back then. The Elder was also undoubtedly a big influence on a certain Thomas Forsberg as well..

That was when this aired on ABC-TV during that time
Thank you for that.
No lineup will ever matchup with the originals, especially on KISS Alive, which is still their best album ever!
@@MrAntiSellOut I'm British, and all the BBC ever gives us is Songs Of Praise.
(And the f**king license fee of course).
rdgSWwot Ace is overrated and lied constantly about being sober. So much for being genuine.
Paul playing and performing and working to hit those high notes, so impressive. Clearly an actual live performance. Well done boys.
Well, he tried lol. I do love the raw-ness of this performance
Clearly live!
A shame he didn't reach them. Been a KISS fan since the early 70's, and truly love 'em. But Paul and a falsetto don't mix well. Pretty ballsy that he tried on live TV, probably knowing it wouldn't go well.
Somehow not easy, on the record he probably recorded two or three overdubs on different notes. They maybe were not too sure about the right one but Gene and Eric did a good work.
@@snakedoktor6020 Well he had probably blown his falsetto, which makes it hard to reach some notes because you have already started to belt up in that register (almos mixing) so you end up with a voice crack when you are trying to go just falsetto.
watching Fridays was the highlight of my week when I was a kid, and KISS was my favorite band
Me too I watched Fridays in my high school days I loved it
Say what you want but at least Kiss performed this LIVE !
Live and very well...
Well la di fricken daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
Yeah, "not that good"... at it's best.
yup there was not tour for the turd known as the elder
The only version with a guitar solo....thus proving Ace Frehley correct... Bob Ezrin shouldn't have cut out Ace's guitar solo because it's a good one...
I love this album💜KISS did what it wanted to do like always. I don't understand why some people don't like this

I always loved this album. Never understood all the the hate it revieved. This sounds great live with Ace on lead guitar.
Because when you target a certain audience and try to change the blow back will be bad. After this album they just got worse. The big hair stuff in the 80s sucked. They made mistakes on some songs on this album but they should have stayed the frickin course and kept trying to expand their sound. People say songs on this album are embarrassing. How about writing a song lick it up? Now that's embarrassing.
@@greggorup1006 When a 15 year old, I really liked this, somehow it seemed a daring move but one I could relate to. Would have been great indeed to see the best of the Elder expanded and incorporated into their early repertoire
If you picked this album up the week it came out, you should know the hate, how old are you if you dont mind me askin'?
@@leeknievel748 Hi Lee, to be correct, I was 16 come to think of it. I am from The Netherlands, there wasn't much hate around KISS during that time concerning The Elder. Maybe fans here were more open to new ideas and music from KISS.
@@mathieubrekelmans206 Well, we were open to new ideas...................long as they were GOOD ONES!! lololol
One of the greatest KISS songs ever and so under appreciated U watched this on FRIDAYS the night it came out thanks for this post!! Music from the ELDER a most important KISS album,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Not the biggest Kiss fan but this is why I loved the show Fridays. You would never see a band like Kiss on SNL.
I’ll always remember watching this the first time it aired. I love this song! It was a few days before my 11th birthday, and I was so excited that they performed my two favorite songs (this and “I” are my favorites) from this album during this episode of Fridays.
Love the elder a classic kiss album can't understand why they don't play more of this album live the fan's would love it
They put in a good performance here. They were always great live and still are. Saw them this year 2020, right before pandemic.
Great clip. Eric totally killing it. The was a transitional moment for sure. Those falsetto pieces are tough.
I went to their reunion concert in Charleston, SC. I was not a Kiss fan but a brother of one. With that said I can say without a doubt Ace stole the show!
He was the only real talent the band ever had
Rick Jones LOL! Aceholes say the darndest things
@@TheGodYouWishYouKnew Well I will say this with 100% confidence. Ace's guitar talent far exceeds Paul Stanley's vocal talent and as far as Paul Stanley on guitar they aren't even in the same universe.
Brandon Lee check out Detroit rock city live Australia 1980 really good sound sold made mega bucks
Rest in peace Eric Carr
talbot Yes, May he Rest In Peace :(
eric &♠are the best of💋band!! 😎👍👍
An actual LIVE LIVE performance! Love this song, haters gonna hate.
Aces solo was 🔥 and Eric was awesome and kept the tempo down and not crazy fast like he tended to do back then. Great performance! 👍
ACE always shines in these old clips
Love Eric's drumming on this! Awesome! R.I.P. Brother 🥁🔥❤️✝️👍
This album is deceptively heavy. This video has to be one of Ace’s greatest solo performances.
@@sjdss Neither of us can win the argument because it is all opinion. But this solo is not the one that appeared on the album.
seriously? its appalling. Probably the worst thing Ive ever heard him play in the 35+ years Ive been a Kiss fan. (although his solo on the live version of Dark Light was ghastly too lol)
Then i guess you have never heard the 75 promo of black Diamond
@@ginajames4564 appalling? really! ... for a live performance where he only gets 1 shot at the solo this stands as a great example of Ace's playing.
@@dstrvyer69 lol, its hardly as though he`s standing on stage and this is the first time he`s ever heard the song is it! :-D . Its AWFUL. No clue, out of key, aimless slop. He could have done something WAY better if he`d actually bothered to practice something.
One of the best KISS´songs! The Elder is surely one of the most underrated albums ever...
@@javtimestwo Tastes are tastes. Andá a joder a otro lado.
In my opinion, the only good song on the elder, the rest is crap
The Elder RULES!!! Some of their heaviest and lightest songs on the same album. The Oath is a fucking BANGER
@@terjeandreassen6146 Just a Boy, Odyssey, Under the Rose, I, A World Without Heroes, Mr. Blackwell... Some nice gems there, my friend!
Excellent concept album.
Omg!! Ace is just flawless...a true musician.
Just love him..😚
I agree. Ace is awesome. Not Jimmy Page but who is? Lol. Paul and Gene bug the shit out of me. Always have!
@@davidstovall8573 Well for me Ace always bugged me because imo he plays sloppy and very unclean. Picking technique is a big mistery and he only uses 3 fingers on the fretting board which limits speed and diversity.
@@Dominicolous I agree with what you say about his playing. Critics have always said Jimmy Page is sloppy too but his colleagues say just the opposite. Joe Bonamassa said Page is the hardest player there is to copy. Anyway, I was drunk when I post the first reply about Ace. His sound takes me back to being a teenager and I do enjoy watching him sometimes.
@@davidstovall8573 nothing can top nostalgia. True words ;)
Ace es un mísico que hace sencillo todo lo que es muy difícil. Sin gran técnica, desarrolla melodías sublimes. Siempre fue el alma de Kiss, hoy es monotonía pura.
There kicking ass here! Love Ace's goofy solo.
Wow, I wish the album version was this heavy and energized. Great video.
“(Music from) The Elder” is a really fine album.
Just not a good KISS album.
This was Gene's first prototype of his current helmet hair look...
Like a lot of mideastern men he almost naturaly has an Afro
Black cotton candy.
it was a vary sad time...

Thank you for posting this. This brings me many memories from my early childhood when they were struggling with their music and their outfits. For me was the best KISS era
Eric Carr such an underrated drummer. His body of work should be held in legend status not just in the Kiss army. Definitely my favorite Kiss drummer, and in my top 5 all time.
Eric Carr is fucking awesome here!
He is fabulous, but his drums sound awful. They weren't mixed very well.
KISSnWoNES Eric Carr is totally killing it here! As a kid, this was my first time seeing KISS on tv. I was 5. They blew my mind! Been a fan ever since. But I love all KISS members past & present, but as far as drumming goes, Eric Carr was my favorite KISS drummer. I love Peter Criss simply b/c he was the original. But no offense to anyone, but I do believe Eric Carr was light years ahead of Peter Criss as far as skills on the drums go. Don’t hate me! Lol...
It’s cool to see them play this. I always liked this album. They tried really hard to venture into something different. I know many fans disagree with me but I thought it interesting.
I also thought The Elder was cool & I've been a KISS fan since '74.
This album always reminds me of playing D&D.
1980 that sounds about right. Great year for albums.
holy shit thats what i was thinking
I've had it on in the background during many sessions of D&D.
I love this album! I'm glad they took the chance !

Music from the Elder is one of the best KISS albums. Truly a beautiful concept album. Why it gets so much hate is beyond me.

@@god6384 if you’re comparing it to Liberalism…:nah. You’re off the mark with that analogy. However that’s a perfect example of how change is not for that better.
As always, Ace Frehley was the best part of Kiss here, and he was with a foot out the door by then.
I thought he sounds the best I have heard him play, space man forever
I like Ace. But Paul & Gene are KISS. Obviously.
@John Smith well I certainly like Frehley 's Comet over most of the 80s and 90s KISS albums
It was Eric Carr that kept him around a little while longer. He loved Eric, but he knew he couldn't function in the KISS system any longer.
I wish Gene & Paul would admit how awesome this album is.
Paul said it's a good album but not a good kiss album. It wasn't what they needed at the time, ace was finished because of it, fan reaction was bad for it and creatures, it was downward spiral.
If not for the dumb contrived lyrics it would be in their top 3 musically for sure.

You mean “young” Kiss
Wasn't this Ace's last live appearance with Kiss? I don't care what anyone says, Ace was the best guitarist for Kiss. He fit like a glove and was the heart and soul of the band.
Dark Light is probably the best song off of this album.
When Ace quit the band was never the same. Funny how Ace started writing more and singing more keeping the band in its rock n roll roots, Paul forced it to soft pop crap.
@@hddynarider4528 KISS was never the same, that is true, but they evolved into the 80s with glory and embraced it. Some of the best songs by KISS were written in that decade.

He left this world much too soon and I can only Image what could have been! A legend!
Paul's hair with the bandana makes him look like a middle-aged soccer mom who got out of an aerobics class.
And with his leggings costume too

Kick-ass song and performance!
This song is great at showcasing their respective talents. I personally believe this was musically their best lineup and best album. Although, Creatures of the Night is another one I really love too.
This should be the 2nd song after their opener on the end of the road tour 2019 / 2020 and jaws would drop from excitement !!!!!
No cause barely anyone would know this song and we don't want to see another song lip synced or sung horribly
Paul could barely pull off the live vocals then. No way now.
I would. Anything to get Say Yeah ! or Crazy Nights off the setlist.
Geezus some people wouldn't know sarcasm if it punched them in the face.
They played it on the kiss kruise and it sounded fine and anyone who goes to a Kiss concert at least 90% of the people know the song and it would have been super cool to have something new added to the set it would have been exciting
I credit them for taking a chance on a concept record.

Kiss was a real Rock and Roll show! Never a boring moment. All the former Churches, speaking against, Kiss, as evil, is a laugh now. All it was , is modern day vaudeville.
When I was a kid, I got my first KISS album, Destroyer. A visiting preacher came to our church and informed us that KISS were satanic and we should burn their records if we had any. I asked my dad what he thought and he said they said all the same things about Elvis, who he loved so not to worry about that.
