Man, I've never heard or seen anything from KISS that I liked before but this old Midnight Special stuff is awesome! I must have watched and listened to the wrong eras of KISS. Now I can't get enough!
Nothing compares to the early kiss. People hate on them because of their main sogns that are world known but once you get into the stuff that got them big thats when you find the real kiss.
Mr@thirdeyelabs, That is exactly what you did. The first five albums from"Kiss" to "Destroyer" were the vintage years! After that, they became more of a cartoon than a rock band. On the first several albums the music was next level. Sounds like Black Diamond, 100,000 Years, Watchin' You, She, Parasite, Strange Ways, couldn't get any better! Tight arrangements, all members contributing on vocals, raw edgy sound. And nothing but black and silver on the costumes! They were dark, they were almost sinister, they were the band that your parents loved to hate! Then by the time '77-'78 came around, came around they were still very popular and even voted most popular band in the world by Gallup poll. Most of the early fan base was starting to become disillusioned and a large majority of their fan base was becoming made up of preteens. These old clips from Midnight Special are Kiss at the top of their game. During this era they also had some good performances on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, and ABC'S In Concert. In their prime, you couldn't beat 'em!
Just watch their show last Saturday at Monster of Rock São Paulo. This is one of the best songs to hear live ever. The echo of 50,000 people screaming Black Diamond is incredible!
"They" should publish the "ratings list" so we would know who is under or overrated. 🤪 Only then, would people realize that it actually doesn't matter at all.
I cannot explain how ELECTRIC this is!!! I was a very young kid who just emigrated from Jamaica to Canada. I had NEVER in my wildest dreams experienced anything remotely similar to this. I STILL FEEL THE SAME ELECTRICITY IN MY VEINS NOW WATCHING THIS!!! OMG!!! L-O-V-E that neck roll Stanley does! NOBODY did it better than he! I've long said Ace and Peter were my fave voices in the band. Loved Paul and Gene, but those other 2 had perfect voices for rock. ESPECIALLY PETER!!! OMG!
I saw Kiss in 1976 at the Birmingham Civic Center and it was the best show ever. They were in their prime and kicked hard! The audience was on its feet and screaming from the moment Kiss came onstage and never stopped. There were stoners, leather boys, families, birthday parties, preppies and college kids, and fans of all ages young to old. I’ve seen some awesome bands perform, and while Kiss wasn’t my favorite band this was hands down and Bic lighters in the air, the greatest concert I’ve ever seen. The band and the crowd had a symbiotic love wherein the louder we roared the better they played. It was lightning in a bottle!
My brother saw them 4-16-76.2 months later.I was at his apartment. He was playing ALIVE! I asked who it was.He told me and said he had gone to see them.I asked him what it was like.He said WILD. He handed me the booklet from inside the album. I was floored.HOOKED! Blood.Fire.Explosions.Lights.Boots.Outfits.Crowds. WILD! 🤟 This and a LOT of early tunes are so good live.
I don't think I would call his performance on this song "singing". More screaming than anything. I'm a KISS fan from way, way back but never really considered any of them exceptional vocalists. It was always more about the show, their image, the fact that they were hated by parents everywhere at that time. That's what rock-n-roll is all about!
KISS ruled the world from 1976 until 1980. When you walked into any store and looked at the magazine racks, you always saw KISS on the covers of multiple magazines, always. For 4 straight years.
My gosh! We're they tight or what? First saw them at the Cumberland County Memorial Arena outside of Fort Bragg in 75', Gary Wright ( Dream Weaver) opening for them. One of the best shows I have ever seen. KISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wasnt even a teenager yet, had every KISS 8-track I could get my hands on, All the LP's, Solo Albums and posters, KISS dolls...Shaped the music I would create and listen to for years to come.
Aug 1977 I was 17 and that is what I heard and saw. Been jammin to em since I was 14. Had all the 70's albums. First time I heard the debut record was on 8 track. Fun days and great memories.

Nothing compares to pre-80's Kiss. From Love Gun backwards is when they ruled the world.
Nothing compares to the early kiss. People hate on them because of their main sogns that are world known but once you get into the stuff that got them big thats when you find the real kiss.
Mr@thirdeyelabs,
That is exactly what you did.
I was never much of a KISS fan, but this song is incredible, definitely my favorite.
Just watch their show last Saturday at Monster of Rock São Paulo. This is one of the best songs to hear live ever. The echo of 50,000 people screaming Black Diamond is incredible!
Eu também estava lá e realmente foi incrível ouvir está música! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
@SCOTT MILLER no. Eric sang it, and pretty well.
@SCOTT MILLER why would you think that they would use Peter's voice?
Just watched it. Pathetic.

Kiss is criminally underrated (well not really), but its a youtube law that every video must have an "underrated" comment.
"They" should publish the "ratings list" so we would know who is under or overrated. 🤪 Only then, would people realize that it actually doesn't matter at all.
Underrated comment.
No they are not...sigh.

You missed the joke...
Not just underrated, but iconically underrated with no autotune.
God I miss the 70s and 80s. This is the kiss of my youth. Just so good and so raw.
Dynasty was my first KISS tour and I never looked back! They were everything to me as a kid and still are! They are incredible!
The influence Kiss had on the bands and metal musicians that came after cannot be overestimated
these 74-78 kiss videos are pure gold, thanks for posting
OMG!
Absolute GOLD here in 2024
This is what made them fan favorites , their best song ,with all of the best elements of their playing . Change my mind.
KISS rules! best live band! very underrated songs.
Sad that young people want ever experience the magic of the 70s Kiss were not just a band they ruled the world. The 80s was also unbelievable 🤘🤘
Probably their best song. Totally kick-ass performance.
Watched this on my parent's TV. I'm 64 now. This was a major part of my life. Saw KISS the first time live at Angel Stadium in 1976.
Best Kiss song ever.
WILD! 🤟
This and a LOT of early tunes are so good live.
Another thing that always amazed me, was that Peter could sing with gum in his mouth... and not choke on it.😂
😂
Other singers use this trick, too, so their mouths don't dry out. And stay minty-fresh.
I've noticed that too 😄
Uncle Ted does as well. As far as singing, Peter was a good studio singer, and THIS live version is great. I love Paul Stanley's voice.
KISS ruled the world from 1976 until 1980. When you walked into any store and looked at the magazine racks, you always saw KISS on the covers of multiple magazines, always. For 4 straight years.
There will NEVER be another group like this era of KISS! EVER!
I love the songs where Peter sings lead. He was a great soul shouter.
My gosh! We're they tight or what? First saw them at the Cumberland County Memorial Arena outside of Fort Bragg in 75', Gary Wright ( Dream Weaver) opening for them. One of the best shows I have ever seen.
KISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is soooo EPIC! Early Kiss are pure awesomeness!
this is it. hands down the best performance of this song ever. thank you for uploading in such high quality MS.
Peter Criss, rock drummer with swing and a groovy voice!
One of the greatest live performances ever!
There’s a handful of Kiss songs I like and this is one.
I wasnt even a teenager yet, had every KISS 8-track I could get my hands on, All the LP's, Solo Albums and posters, KISS dolls...Shaped the music I would create and listen to for years to come.
Never get bored of this 😍😎🔥🔥
Aug 1977 I was 17 and that is what I heard and saw. Been jammin to em since I was 14. Had all the 70's albums. First time I heard the debut record was on 8 track. Fun days and great memories.
This song and performance stands up to any rock song ever.
Kiss , my second Concert December 27 1975 . Coup his Mom's best friend and her Daughter . We partied all the way to Louisville Gardens . What a wonderful December Night !
It's really sad Gene & Paul put such a choke on Peter & Ace's vocals in a Kiss shows later on. Peter & Ace could both hold their own but sadly were all too often only used a few times in a live show or even less on a record.
Thats what happens when your 2nd string, btw who needs singing drummers.
@@robertflippin9112 Some of the best (or at least most enjoyable) bands in rock history had singing drummers. Blue Oyster Cult, Kiss, Night Ranger, the Beach Boys, The Eagles just to name a few.
@@robertflippin9112 Boy I remember when I had my first beer 🙄🤣
Peter had a great voice. Straight out of that Rod Stewart/Joe Cocker bag.
@@davel.9467
No not really, not even close, he's basically shouting and screaming, I'm sure his voice was done after this and he couldn't sing much more on an evening in that style.
After watching this carefully. This is history in the making. Incredible performance. The last 2 minutes is it. I'm 58 years old. I remember this back in my youth.
Thanks, midnight special for releasing the KISS midnight special in great quality this wouldnt happen if this werent posted
Watched this the day it aired . Damn I'm old ! Thank you Mrs Herr for letting us kids with your sons to watch this .
Me too. I was 10.
this is the only version of Kiss I wish to remember...
Me too. The first record was the best. Not saying they went downhill or anything.
Cannot say that about anybody with their career and success. But this straight ahead, uncomplicated rock is my favourite.
Myself as well!
The original album was the best!!! I agree 👍
I love them during this period. Not yet a phenomena, still young and hungry and still a cohesive whole. Gene hasn't become jaded yet and still looks to be truly enjoying performing, and the egos all still seem to be in check.
Peter has that voice..great!!
OK, once again, was never a fan of KISS when I was a wee un. Never SAW them, only heard a few songs on the radio. But watching this performance, dam... Peter literally tore up the drums while chewing gum and belting out the song while Ace jammed the guitar. Very impressive. I guess the original band is amazing after all. Jesse, my 2nd grade friend, you were right lol.
just guitars plugged into amps... that's the most honest-sounding bass and guitars I've heard in a while
ABSOLUTELY KILLER PERFORMANCE 🤘🏼🔥⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Wow! Peter is incredible on this performance 🥁😺
This is why i love him! 💚
He was absolutely fantastic in his prime!!!! Paul and Gene are delusional narcissistic assholes and truly deep down jealous of Peter and Ace, fact!!! They were the fan favorites and even on coke and booze, still put on a fantastic show night after night 🌙!!!! Team Peter and Ace always!!!! Lol
@@kevinchandler179why can’t people just enjoy the video without whining. 4 guys that can’t get along and 2 guys were more committed than the other 2. Ace and Peter were fan favorites! What! How would you gage that? Gene and Paul have plenty of fans. They did just fine on their own. Unlike the other two. It’s obvious Peter is an asshole . Judging by things said in the other threes book . Plus Peter admitted to most of it. Ace quit . Peter is never happy and got himself fired. They made their decisions now they can live with them.
Peter admitted to things, because he is honest and not delusional narcissistic assholes like Paul and Gene, his book was the most honest of any of them, and Peter doesn't constantly bash Paul and Gene, he took the high road as always!!!! If it wasn't for Peter and Ace, Paul and Gene would still be living in a scumbag apartment playing for Wicked fuckin Lester people!!!!! Lol
Team Peter and Ace always!!!!
@timg185 Peter was amazing and Ace and treated like stepchildren, you are an asshole!!!!! Not Peter
I only really started listening to and watching Kiss recently. I can tell this is the form that made them so popular. What a show they used to put on!
THank you Midnight Special for uploading this beautiful footage!
Wow! And Peter Criss vocals are awesome!
A new adult guitar student of mine (I'm 62) said he couldn't understand how I can play all kinds of music but like KISS too. I told him I didn't like KISS, I love KISS Only up to RARO though). I told him that people don't listen with their ears, they make a judgement from the image. I hear an attention to detail in the song structure and killer riff after killer riff that I just don't hear from other more respected bands of their era. That first ALIVE! holds up incredibly well to this day. The studio fixes in that are overstated. How much of this Midnight Special performance needs fixing?
I was a senior in high school when I watched this exact KISS concert on The Midnight Special. Became a fan on that day. Got their albums, bought every music magazine. Saw them live in California in 77(?), great show. What happened? they lost this magic.
With this kiss song my heroes became and above all Peter Críss, the authentic, unique and original Cat Man
My favorite kiss song I was born in '92 but my mom shared her taste in music with me so I love this Era of music
Just like Hard Luck woman!!! Peter knocked it out of the park and was amazing!!! When they were in studio making Rock and roll all over record, Gene said to Paul, this sounds like a Peter song, let him try it, and reluctantly Stanley did, and Peter Chris was amazing and still best 3 songs Kiss ever did, was Black Diamond, Hard Luck woman, and Beth!!! And, guess who sung all of them???? Lol 🤣
Peter had another killer song he sang lead on on the Rock and Roll Over album called "Baby Driver", which Peter co-wrote with Stan Penridge.
@@charleskollin1221 I agree 👍
My very first concert as a young teenager ! Molded my life to drums and rock n roll !! Las vegas rock n roll hall of fame !!
Man these guys were good.....Ace is just perfection!
