We 90's kids truly were born in a special moment in history to be able to experience all these games as they came out.
And us 00s kids also got to experience a lot of 90s things as well. Me personally am a 00 baby and grew up on a lot of 80s things too

I remember seeing Mario64 for the first time and playing it on a demo kiosk. Controlling Mario with the analogue stick was truly magical!
The first time I saw Mario 64 was in my early 20's, my friend rented the console from Blockbuster and had everybody over to his apartment for a smokefest. I walked in on the part where Mario is swimming around in that room with no gravity... blown away by the 3D graphics. We all had Nintendo 64's within a week.

Pretty much same story here. My buddy rented the Japanese version before the NA version was out, and a bunch of us stayed up all night, simply amazed by it.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a top N64 list without Mario Kart on it. It’s still the #1 N64 party game by far in my area.

@@bepohal Garbage game. Mario 64, both Banjo games, Bad Fur Day, Space Station Silicon Valley, and Rocket Robot on wheels are all better platformers. DK 64 is like Gex 64. It even has a bug they couldn't fix.

Great review. I have 13 of those classics, and still enjoying them in 2023. 1080 Snowboarding has a great implementation of the Rumble Pak which really lets you feel the ice and racing surface.
Ahh, the N64... Small library, but a damn good one. Collecting games for it was so much fun! I still get excited seeing games I already own at retro stores or thrift shops.
A couple of favorite racing games to add: San Francisco Rush and Extreme G

I have very fond memories of that game.
Snapping pictures of the water monster.
Shooting a missile at Mario Mt Rushmore to turn it into Wario. And having to beat that mechman with missiles from the gyrocopter.
The canon and target segments along with the jumble hopper were sweet too.

About the only way I can play any kind of downgraded game is if I have Nostalgia tied to it. And even that is getting to be a harder sell when venturing into the games of yesteryear.

The SNES and N64 were my entire childhood. My personal favorites were Star Fox 64, Pokémon Snap, Diddy Kong Racing, and Ducks Dodgers Starring Daffy Duck.
Oh and I find the Vulture cute! ^_^ I'm also a goose lover. Birds rule!
Until recently (last couple years), I never heard any one talk about Blast Corps. One of my all time favorites.
I love this game. I remember the first time playing it in the 90s. I was completely shocked when required to complete the game a third time and go for platinum. The platinum times were so much harder than the gold times. I thought it was going to be impossible. It took a while but what an experience and moment of pride when it was finally completed.
@lees3692 there was 3 games that stood out to me. I have a horrible memory. I don't know if I made it that far, but I damn sure am considering getting creative and playing this game again. (Pilotwings and Starfox)

Mario Kart N64 is clearly the best racing game on the 64. The Way the narrator has to repeatedly say how Diddy racing is better proves it's not, bc if it was, that wouldn't have to be repeated. Otherwise, decent list.
F zero X for me is the better racer
11:43 goldeneye changed how games were made and played which is crazy to think that one game can change things forever.

Enjoyed the list; but I gotta say I think you forgot mario party. The amount of chaos and funny that game provides for local multiplayer is unmatched.

How is Donkey Kong 64 not on this list?
Conker's Bad Fur Day was one of best games I ever played I was extremely disappointed when it came out on Xbox and I thought it was going to be like it's original with just better graphics and some added gameplay but it was nothing like the original. The PVP in the original was extremely fun.
One of my favorite gaming memories was staying up all night playing CBFD PvP with 3 of my friends eating Pizza and just being 90s kids lol
Conkers bad fur day is an unbelievably unique gruesome game it has absolutely everything, its in the top 10 maybe top 5
The Xbox version is definitely the definitive version of this game. As much as I love the N64 and the original.
My faves in no particular order: Castlevania Legacy of Darkness, Conkers bad fur day, DK 64, Goldeneye, Perfect dark, Mario 64, MK4, killer instinct gold, Army men sarge's heroes, turok 2, dk racing, smash bros, mk trilogies, mk mythologies sub zero, pokemon stadium, MegaMan 64, podracer, shadows of the empire, and clayfighter 63 1/3

The N64 is the first true 64bit console. Atari Jaguar didn't really feet 64 bittish.

Great list- throw in Mario Kart, Pilotwings, Doom 64, Quake 2, Beetle Adventure Racing, Resident Evil 2 & Ridge Racer & you'd have a great N64 Classic. Would probably be $300 though
Yo. I got Diddy Kong Racing for Christmas, when it released. Going back through all the levels for those GD silver coins nearly broke me. You didn't mention 007s music, I still have those jams in my head until today. I'm guessing O of Time is gonna be number 1, (I'm at #3 now) But honestly I'd be hard pressed to choose between Dood's Mask, and OG. Hope you did one for Gamecube.
I’ve long said that the 90s was to video games what the 60s was for music. Glad I got to experience one of them.
No-one ever has Micro Machines on these lists but god damn that was a brilliant tabletop racer, not as good as F-Zero or Mario Kart for sure but up there with 1080 and Wave Race for me. In fact I’m gonna go dig out my copy right now……
I know you said you wanted to limit games from the same franchise but how can you not have Zelda MM in the list? Super Mario 64 is certainly worthy of the top spot but surely Zelda OOT is hands down the best game followed by MM and then Mario 64. Omitting Mario Kart 64 was a mistake. Also I would have dropped 1080 and Blast Corps in favour of Jet Force Gemini and DK64.
Once again well made video no doubts! Keep it like that! However, even though I agree Diddy Kong racing is a great game, nothing tops Mario kart 64 in terms of fun! Not having this game on the list is a big miss (briefly mentioning it at the beginning isn’t enough I reckon). Honorable mention goes to Jet Force Gemini a really good game I played for hours.

Paper mario my first n64 game
Super Mario 64 is the rightful #1. It defined how 3D adventure/platforming games would look and play from that point onward, plus it was an incredible technical demonstration of what the N64 hardware could achieve in 3D graphics. It has had a lasting impact on the gaming industry. I remember how it blew everybody’s minds when Super Mario 64 came out back then.
Definitely. Mario64 was the first video game i ever witnessed. I was like five, when my family was in another city for an invitation of familyfriends, who also had children. They had a N64 and played Super Mario. Me and my sister were instantly blown away and pestered our parents for our own N64 for the next christmas until they caved and said yes. I spent countless hours playing Super Mario. Good memories

As someone who fully completed Diddky Kong Racing's story mode... It had so much more to it than Mario Kart, and it's a damn shame we never got a sequel (DS doesn't count). Also spent an ungodly amount of hours replaying Rogue Squadron.

Hell yeah. Fighters Destiny is one of the most underrated games on the system along with Quake, Forsaken, and Starcraft.

This was fun, i am just binging your videos , ha! I still love Shadows of the Empire, as a launch title, the Hoth opening level was magical. NHL games really got a massive boost with N64 but i see you are largely sticking away from sports.
Loved Conker's BFD back in the day, but even then I don't think the gameplay was that great. It was a bit flimsy by Rare standards, but looked great with amazing animation and was genuinely hilarious.

Goldeneye is perfect to me. The graphics are crisp, controls are good. I don't understand when people complain about the graphics or controls. It's ages beautifully Imo and deserves to be much higher on the list. It's arguably the best on the system.
The N64 is extremely underrated and is my second favourite Nintendo system with Super Mario 64, Goldeneye and WWF No Mercy being my absolute favourite gamess on the N64.
Well, at tje ripe age of 50yo, I was introduced to Nintendo with the NES... My life changed with that console...
The SNES moved many miles and gave us great games too...
But it was the N64 that did it for me... My friends would diss on it (prefering their Sony Playstation's) but they missed out on such great games like Rogue Squadron, Banjo Kazooie, Super Mario 64, Eternal Darkness, 1080 Snowboading, Wave Race 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Jet Force Gemini, Goldeneye, Silicon Valley, Body Harvest and so many more great games which changed the traditional "Games of old" with new ideas like Glover and Blast Corp's... Do we remember Glover? Sure we do!... Do we remember Body Harvest? Yeah we do, for the most part (It was a great game which did not do too well in the west as I remember)...
Tell me when in modern times have we had such innovations as Glover and Silicon Valley? Or even Body Harvest?... We have not...
The N64 did one thing right in my eyes... It created Diversity in Games, it did something different, it made Dev's try to do something so very different... And that is why we have such great games like Glover, Silicon Valley and Body Harvest... New Tech= New Idea's... I wish triple A companies would take that leap, and go into the unknown... But, it is the Indi Dev's who are doing this these days...
In Indie Dev's we must trust to give us such new and dynamic games to come, crafted from the fires of the old Triple A Dev's of old... RIP the old Dev's... You had your time, and it was good...

This isn’t really the top 20 n64 games. The limiting series rule is so stupid. A top 20 list without Majora’s Mask or Mario Kart is stupid. Especially if the reasoning is “well we already have a Zelda game”.

Only games I wouldn´t see on a list like this are Star Wars Rogue Squadron, Pokémon Stadium 2, Super Smash Bros (because the series in my books became really good with Melee and probably Sin and Punishment).
I would rather put games like Castlevania LoD, Resident Evil 2, Body Harvest, International Superstar Soccer, Operation Winback, Rayman 2, Pilotwings, Mischief Makers, Jet Force Gemini, Bomberman 64, Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, Ogre Battle 64, Star Craft or Donkey Kong 64 on this list.
good list but i am wondering why Donkey Kong 64 wasn't on there? seriously better than a few of those and the DK Rap is still iconic enough it even made it in the new Mario movie!

Huh. It's only watching this video that I realize Star Trek Online took one of Wave Race 64's maps & made it the Summer Camp map on Risa.
I don't know man, I don't feel like it's fair to lump Mario Kart in as a general "Mario game"...it's its own series and deserved its own entry IMO. However you at least included No Mercy...I feel like a lot of these lists forget that wrestling games back then were something even non fans played, some of which were even talked about as GOTY contenders, No Mercy belongs in a top 20 for sure (top 10 for me).

Quake 2 on the 64 was great and my favourite version of the game, it was actually a completely different game with different levels compared to quake 2 on pc and other consoles,

I don't know what you're talkin about man that Shadows the Empire Star Wars game is a lot of fun I've been played in over twenty years now but I still remember the level as a kid where you could trick the guys into following you into the Chewbacca cages room and then open the Chewbacca's cage and run out Not only would they kill the enemies but the Chewbacca's would kill each other the winner would come after you

@@tylerwilliams6022 for sure, excellent choices for party night or family night. Harvest moon was still holds up decently well, but there are so many farm games now it might not be all that special without nostalgia.
I bought Harvest Moon 64 when it was released - it was hard to find! It amazes me that whoever I show the game to and offer a save space for their own file, they get hooked on it! I went to college in 2001 and I brought my N64 with me. My older cousin, who was busy with sports, dating, academics, student body council, dormitory leadership, and a host of other responsibilities, came into my room and saw me playing it one day. He literally didn't leave my room for 3 days, playing it the whole time. It's, in my opinion, the best of the franchise.

I love the N64, but not sure it's more influential than the Atari/NES/SNES/Genesis/PS1. They are all very important, though I'd have to give the nod to the NES.

I have been playing my n64 this evening. None of my n64 games look anywhere near as crisp or clean. I guess you have to emulate as it's hard to watch n64 😂
I just find something so special about playing Mario 64 and Goldeneye on the OG hardware.
I have the source port on my new 3ds xl and although it runs better, the original controls just make the game easier somehow. Even emulating on a pc and using a controller adapter just isn't the same as playing on the 64.
Composite vs s-video vs hdmi mods make a huge difference relative to one another!
I'm playing mine on a 77" OLED via Pixel FX's HDMI mod and it looks great, will look even better when paired with a RetroTINK 4K when it's released. All about the setup...you can really make the N64 look good.
Ocarina of time was hands down better than Mario for the #1 spot. Also, again, Jet Force Gemini getting no love. Easily top 5. 😩😩

I have more nostalgia for WCW vs nWo, but I do think No Mercy is a better/much deeper game.
