@@herbescobar2974 F Zero is a SNES game. Also everyone has their own opinion on their top 20 and that makes everyone unique. There are so many NES games and many great games that could be in someone's top 20.
Great list. A couple of my favorites are Crystalis and Super Dodge Ball, though I'd expect them to be low on a list like this. I agree that SMB3 and the original Zelda are the two best games on the system. Just incredible titles.
After seeing crystalis gameplay in the intro i was excited, but unfortunately it was just a tease. I put crystalis in my top 20 easily. Possibly top 10.
I guess the biggest surprise on this list is Batman. Really good game by the way. Sunsoft did a great job with it. Maybe the only company who made good movie games as Gremlins 2 was another gem. Batman played much like Ninja Gaiden but no where near the same difficulty. The great thing about the NES is everyone who makes their list personal is going to have a different list. And the number of titles does not make it easy. Favorites I probably would have included would be Double Dragon, Double Dragon II, Metroid, Battletoads, Snake Rattle and Roll, Shatterhand, Little Nemo, Metal Gear. Anyone who played Castlevania 3 would probably have that high on their list. It was the game I played the most and one of the last NES games I bought in 1992 for $20.
Batman is one of my favorite games for the NES. I'm super happy that it got on this list. I remember playing it so much back in the day! I also liked Blaster Master, and Ironsword: Wizards and Warriors II.
Especially Zelda II which every game duplicates as a side scrolling adventure game and a leveling system that was fun and customizable that to this day hasn’t been replicated.
Overall a really good list. If I might suggest something, then I would recommend Dragon Warrior III and IV. The first entry is of course a classic that I personally still revisit to this day, but I feel like III and IV improved upon the formula by a lot. Especially III is such a masterpiece that offers a lot of replayability as well due to its job system.
And Dragon Warrior IV has a superb story system. Chapters I-IV have entirely new protagonist(s) and they all unite in Chapter 5 to face the ultimate evil. A very cool idea that was revolutionary at the time. The cast of characters were somewhat 3-Dimensional which was remarkable for NES and even many SNES titles.
In case someone was interested in some other NES game recommendations, my Top-20 might be (in no order): - Maniac Mansion - Battle of Olympus - Snake Rattle n Roll - Punchout - Super Mario Bros 3 - Super Mario Bros 2 - Burai Fighter - Ghostbusters 2 - Hyper Soccer - Super Spike Vball - Contra - TMNT 2 - Double Dragon II - Ducktales - Mega Man 2 - Crystalis - Dr Mario - Tetris - Track n Field II - Bucky O‘hare

In case anyone out there was unaware, Super Mario 2 wasn't a Mario game. It was an Arabian Nights themed game called Doki Doki Panic, and the four characters was this Arabian family. You actually had to get all 4 characters through every level in order to win. When it was transformed into Super Mario 2 they of course reskinned the main characters, added a run button, only required you to go through the stages once, and I believe the warp zones were a new addition as well.
And the prototype of this game was a Mario game, but Miyamoto didn't like the idea. FujiTV asked Nintendo to make a game of their characters and they continued the development of Doki Doki Panic but with different characters
Cool.. I have all of these still, except final fantasy and dragon warrior. I've never been much of an RPG fan. I would add Snake Rattle N Roll, and Little Nemo Dream Master instead 😁 19:03
Remarkably strong list. DuckTales FTW. I might nickel and dime you on some placements, but the only blatant disagreement; TMNT 3 >>>>> TMNT 2. -yes, 2 was a solid repro of the Arcade, but we're talking about the best NES games, not impressions.
K so you missed like all the great sports games like Super Dodge Ball, and Super Spike V-Ball. Besides all that you missed the greatest NES game of all time which is Bionic Commando. Also, this game has the best ending scene of all NES games. Punch-Out deserves a better rating. Even my wife thinks so.
Mega Man 2 was the first game I ever got on NES. It took me forever to beat that game, and when I did my parents let me have a beer. I was 9. It was the best memory I will ever have.
I don’t understand how there are that many games listed ahead of Dragon Warrior and Punch Out. Mario Bros and Zelda… ok… but Duck Tales??? Those two should easily be top 5. And no Tecmo Bowl???
Out of the 20 games shown, the ones I've played are those below... Number 13 - *Super Mario Bros. 2* Number 12 - *Tetris* Number 10 - *Batman* Number 04 - *Super Mario Bros.* Number 02 - *The Legend Of Zelda* Number 01 - *Super Mario Bros. 3* Of the three Mario games, my favorite was SMB2, although I also enjoyed the first SMB game. SMB3 was...okay, but I didn't particularly enjoy this one. Tetris and The Legend Of Zelda were very addictive for me. Batman was very difficult, even in the first stage. But, I loved the music that played during the first stage or two.
Mighty Final Fight TMNT & TMNT Tournament fighters Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle Double Dragon II & III Adventure Island III Thexder Nekketsu Dunk Heroes Renegade Super Contra Astyanax And more awesome games missed here
The Nintendo Entertainment System had so many wonderful games. I love that the NES has been affordable for the past few years compared other retro gaming consoles. Also the end with Shigeru Miyamoto was great. Imagine Shigeru Miyamoto coming out in a Nintendo Direct and offering to make a new F-Zero game that would be amazing. Cool video. ^_^
A friend and i went to walmart and bought 8 copies of Kirby's anventure at $5 a pop. Then took them back to places like kmart, sears, circuit city, etc, and got $60 a back for each. not a bad days work
I’d have Super C over the first Contra. There’s no need to put two Mega Man games on this list, just keep the 2nd on there. I’d replace the third Mega Man with Crystalis. But the rest I can understand your opinion of.
Everyone's going to have a different list, mine would have mega Man 6 instead of 3, because aside from 2, that was the one I had. Crystalis, Blaster Master, Gremlins 2, Roller Games. There were a lot of great games and many people know of the best. But one thing I do want to say is Punch Out. Yes, it was on the list. But let's talk about how you have a game all about fighting bosses, where you have to worry about stamina, and focus on reading their tells to look for an opening. I'm not saying punch out is a souls-like. But I am saying it was a very clear early demonstration that that game loop is fun.
Blaster Master is definitely one of my Fav's! I also think Metal Gear deserves a place on the list here. I probably would have taken out the sequels to Castlevania and Super Mario 2 and added Metal Gear and Blaster Master.
With the Nes it's hard to put out a "Top #" list with so many great and fantastic games for the Nes. I'm just stoked that I was a 80s kid and experienced the Nes era. You 80s kid know what's up!!!
I know it might sound crazy but the best NES game is actually a Tennis game that i dont think was released in the US. It was mase with the same character/art style as River City Ransom. The controls for this tennis game are spectacular.
Damn, Castlevania is "free" as well. 😂 I'm sorry, I'm just taking a piss. That accent always gets me. I can't help but scream in my head, "there's a fuggin T there" like what's the point in even having letters. 😂
Star Tropics 1&2, Crystalis, Arkista's Ring, Battle of Olympus, Faxanadu. Star Tropics brought in a form of fast travel or increased travel speed as well as item leveling quests to upgrade your yo-yo and sub weapons. Crystalis utilized a Level system for the character AND weapons in the way of Items. It was also one of the first Item limit backpack where you had to manage what you need instead of what you want for the sequence of the game you were on. Its mostly linear storyline with free-roam and level grinding to meet certain requirements for areas/enemies/bosses/equips was a bit of the charm. You could spend around 3 hours in the first field and hit half max level and breeze through the game with slightly easier battles. Arkista's Ring was a dungeon crawler that you had to clear several times for the true ending, as it would send you back to the beginning after each full clear, it brought the dungeon crawler style and I think it was the first that held a true ending. Battle of Olympus was one of my favorite go-to long sit games. Battling through mythical monsters and getting weapons and equipment from the gods all to get your girl from the underworld. Faxanadu was similar to Battle of Olympus, but without the Gods, and instead you had to get upgrades through discovery, purchases and boss fights, Goal: Cleanse the land of evil then go on your way.

@@herbescobar2974 F Zero is a SNES game. Also everyone has their own opinion on their top 20 and that makes everyone unique. There are so many NES games and many great games that could be in someone's top 20.
Tecmo Superbowl was the GOAT
Castlevania, Mega Man 3, and Ninja Gaiden 2 have always been my favorite, in part because of the music.
SNK Baseball Stars. This game was decades ahead of its time. Best sports game ever.
Yes sir.
Ghost and Goblins would have made mine.
Tecmo Super Bowl never gets any credit on these lists and is easily top 20, really much higher
Very good list. But Tecmo Bowl / Tecmo Super Bowl, Shadow of the Ninja, Kung Fu, Jackal, Double Dragon II, and Zelda II deserve this list as well.
Especially Zelda II which every game duplicates as a side scrolling adventure game and a leveling system that was fun and customizable that to this day hasn’t been replicated.
Going back all these years later and playing SMB2, I think it's my favorite. It's so different and fun.
It's creepy.
@@joshcoughx that quick sand.....
Yeah which is weird considering it is one of the highest sales of the system.
Absolutely! For me DW 3 is a top 5 game of all time...still worth playing on mobile!
For me DD2 should be in it!
Number one for me even. Played it so much with my dad back then, only to be followed up by the Streets of Rage games. We played 'em all.
In case someone was interested in some other NES game recommendations, my Top-20 might be (in no order):
- Maniac Mansion
- Battle of Olympus
- Snake Rattle n Roll
- Punchout
- Super Mario Bros 3
- Super Mario Bros 2
- Burai Fighter
- Ghostbusters 2
- Hyper Soccer
- Super Spike Vball
- Contra
- TMNT 2
- Double Dragon II
- Ducktales
- Mega Man 2
- Crystalis
- Dr Mario
- Tetris
- Track n Field II
- Bucky O‘hare
Battle of Olympus is an underrated gem!
@@sk1ppman Battle of Olympus arguably THE hidden gem of the NES. My favorite adventure back then with Maniac Mansion. Zelda and alike did not even come close imo… 🆙
BATTLETOADS???
@@TheDeuceofSpades Only came across Battletoads once. None of my closer friends had this game. Tough one, but the graphics and animations were impressive… was a big fan of Rareware even back then. But i was more into Snake Rattle n Roll, California Games, RC Pro Am or Marble Madness.
Still, pretty legit suggestion from your side!

Your list is better than the list presented in this video! 😁👍
I'd swap out a few (mainly down to me not growing up with them), but you have many solid, unique titles listed here.
You listed some bangers that I grew up with.

I put Willow - Battle of Olympus - Tiny Toon Adventure way up on my list.
I also played some Rygar - Wacky Races (wasn't about racing. Just the dog sidescroller.)
Among other awesome games 😊
You violated your starting rule of one game per series
To many greats for just top 20 because everyones is going to be different. Zelda series,Final Fantasy,Metroid,Metal Gear,Bionic Cammando,Contra,Super Contra,Star Tropics,Crystalis,Dragon Warrior Series,Mario Bros. Sereies,Super Dogdeball,Super Spike V Ball,Nintendo World Cup,Blades of Steel,Tecmo Bowl,Mike Tysons Punchout,Double Dragon Series,Faxanadu,Battletoads and way to many more. Too many greats too list, loved my NES. Best Christmas present ever at age 6 in 1986.
Great list. I would've included Battletoads and SMB2 (Japan).
Battletoads!!!!!
I liked Jaws, Punisher, California games, Narc, yo noid, POW, TC surf design too
In case anyone out there was unaware, Super Mario 2 wasn't a Mario game.
I would find it hard to believe that anyone who games hasn't heard of this.
And the prototype of this game was a Mario game, but Miyamoto didn't like the idea. FujiTV asked Nintendo to make a game of their characters and they continued the development of Doki Doki Panic but with different characters
Shocked Blaster Master isn’t on this
Or Metal Gear!
Faxanadu deserves a spot in the Top 20!
Cool.. I have all of these still, except final fantasy and dragon warrior. I've never been much of an RPG fan. I would add Snake Rattle N Roll, and Little Nemo Dream Master instead 😁 19:03
I still play Nemo every now and then. It's very difficult but fun and wonky enough to keep you playing.
Remarkably strong list. DuckTales FTW.
I might nickel and dime you on some placements, but the only blatant disagreement; TMNT 3 >>>>> TMNT 2. -yes, 2 was a solid repro of the Arcade, but we're talking about the best NES games, not impressions.
how Magic was this time, with this games
Kid Icarus should have been on this list, As well as Bionic Commando and Tiger Helli
Nah, the sports games were somewhat popular but nothing really sticks out. They may have been your favorites but not in the mainstream
Mega Man 2 was the first game I ever got on NES. It took me forever to beat that game, and when I did my parents let me have a beer. I was 9. It was the best memory I will ever have.
Jackal , Lupin the third, tmnt tournament fighters, ninja cats, double dragon 2&3 , fatal fox , all deserve a honorary mention
Number 12 - *Tetris*
Number 10 - *Batman*
Number 04 - *Super Mario Bros.*
Number 02 - *The Legend Of Zelda*
Number 01 - *Super Mario Bros. 3*
Of the three Mario games, my favorite was SMB2, although I also enjoyed the first SMB game. SMB3 was...okay, but I didn't particularly enjoy this one. Tetris and The Legend Of Zelda were very addictive for me. Batman was very difficult, even in the first stage. But, I loved the music that played during the first stage or two.
My favs: Mike Tyson's Punchout, Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros 2, Tecmo Super Bowl, Ikari Warriors, Super Mario 1, Kid Icarus, Rygar, Metroid
We could argue about the placement of the various games, but our list is pretty much perfect.
Mighty Final Fight
TMNT & TMNT Tournament fighters
Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle
Double Dragon II & III
Adventure Island III
Thexder
Nekketsu Dunk Heroes
Renegade
Super Contra
Astyanax
And more awesome games missed here
Great list man! When SM3 came out it was amazing. I remember first seeing it in The Wizard and wanting to pay it so bad.
I saw Metal Gear and Vice: Project Doom in the intro and got excited, then he got on with the same list that virtually all other UA-camrs make. :(
I’m not sure if this game counts but what about Bubble Bobble?
I can always depend on your top 20 lists to be some way off UK perspective. Thanks for not disappointing again lol
No worries!
"It could...drag-on." Masterpiece.
Cool video. ^_^
I played Tetris for 4 hours and 18 minutes off one game. It was insane! I was on a roll…
Crystalis needs to be on the list! Lol
You start the list with Maniac Mansion?? You bet im here for the rest. ❤
So many great games on the NES. Faxanadu was one of my favorites!
The NES is the greatest 8 bit console of all time.
Crystalis was so good.
Good list and summaries! I'm particularly glad to see Konami so well represented here, and I can easily agree with your top 5s 👍
My old favorite NES game is Stinger! Nice couch coop
3 Nes games i would play today, timeless games that were ahead of their time:
-fire n ice
-tetris
-duck hunt
Good list but was surprised Tecmo Bowl and Life Force weren't on it.
I feel like you need to add the first GI Joe game on here.
Snake eyes maxed out ftw
I'm surprised Punch Out was so low on the list
With the Nes it's hard to put out a "Top #" list with so many great and fantastic games for the Nes. I'm just stoked that I was a 80s kid and experienced the Nes era. You 80s kid know what's up!!!
Life Force should be on the list. Also, Castlevania 3 > Castlevania.
I spent the most time playing Zelda 1&2,Super Mario 1&2,Ghosts and Goblins and Punch out.
I know it might sound crazy but the best NES game is actually a Tennis game that i dont think was released in the US. It was mase with the same character/art style as River City Ransom. The controls for this tennis game are spectacular.
No Excitebike???
We all have different favourites , but this list contains 20 games that at least can be considered top contenders.
Some fantastic games. I played more than I thought. MM Zelda, FF DW Mario were awsome.
I still have my kid’s old Game Boy and DS, and I still like to play Super Mario 2 & 3, Super Mario World, Yoshi’s World, and Super Mario 64.
I love that your background music is from Persona 4!
Awesome video, liked and subbed!
Great list, think I would have went with metal Gear instead of Kirby though.
For sure! Kirby was just ok. Metal Gear was EPIC!
My first mega man game was mega man 3. I loved it.i still do
I'm enjoying this video/list, but TECMO Super Bowl has to be on here.
Damn, Castlevania is "free" as well. 😂
I'm sorry, I'm just taking a piss.
That accent always gets me.
I can't help but scream in my head, "there's a fuggin T there" like what's the point in even having letters. 😂
fair, however:
Craig is not Creg
You lied you said only one game from each series and you put Castlevania 1 and 3
And all 3 Super Mario Bros. games.
1:13
1:12 "we're also going to break our rules for one game per franchise..."
They didn't lie. You didn't listen. 😮
I would have to say River City Ransom was one of the best NES games I ever played. I hope it makes the list
Goonies 2 was my jam back in the day. Fun game.
