Thanks for showing how you actually "opened" the door by partially removing the panel. Most of these videos the dudes have the panel already off and the door opened and try to "explain" what they did. Good job!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! This same thing happened to my 2003 Silverado and I was really afraid it was going to be an expensive fix. But no! Thanks to you it's fixed for free!! Thanks again!
Haven't watched the whole video yet, but thank you, the door on my 2003 silverado is stuck. Edit: it worked! But the piece of the rod was broken up by the handle instead of down lower, but i rigged this bolt glued to a nut to hold the thing together. Edit: it broke
Thanks for the Hillbilly inginuity video. lol. Now my door is good to go. My top latch piece was broken and I just replaced it with a new one. $3 and some little labor and done. I love UA-cam when it comes to helping people out with simple problems. You saved alot of people money and time. God Bless you brother.
Thanks for doing this video; it helps folks like me - who know absolutely nothing mechanically about my vehicle, a 1999 Chevy Suburban. With this knowledge I can take my car to a mechanic and not get taken advantage of because I now know its a fairly simple fix, that shouldn't cost hundreds of dollars.
This video was incredibly helpful, thank you!! I would suggest buying the clips... they cost me 3 bucks for a box of them. It was a bitch getting your hand up in there to get the clip onto the rod but now my door opens!!
Where did you find them? Can you send me a link? My 05 broke the clips on the bottom rod by the top where the handle is(not in the bottom like in the video)
I too bought the clips. The ones I got were not as beefy as the one I replaced but they work. We'll see how long they last. I just completed the repair today
I have a 2007 extended cab and my door on the same side won't open either. Going to try this on my truck. I have electric door locks and hope it's not that.
Bottom latch I have corroded and cannot open extended cab door at all. Used WD40 nothing, just doesn’t want to unlatch. Not sure if there is other way to open door and replace those coroded latches
I bent the rod into a 90 degree angle. The end of the rod is threaded. I found a nut to screw onto the end. Only thing I should have done that I didn't, was to put some thread locker on it.
The Daninator ok thanks i will look in to it this weekend,,,, i also have another issue my little sibling broke the latch from the back window, by any chance you know if there’s a way to still open the window?
Hopefully someone is still subscribe to this video, lol. Amazingly enough, the push rods and plastic clips are still intact on my 99 Siliverado, however the door will still not release. Even pulling up on the bottom lever pretty hard. I have it soaking in PB Blaster, I check it tomorrow and see if it's loose. If not, does anyone have any ideas?
Must be the latch itself. Did PB blaster work for you? Perhaps something inside the latch is broken. Not really sure what could be the issue. Hope you can get it worked out.
How did you open it? I have same problem I cannot for the life of me open the door the latching mechanism on the bottom of the door seems to be stuck and won't release

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. You made this job simple and easy to understand for all of us!
Searched UA-cam, your's was the 1st video to pop up, and the only one I watched to make the fix. Thank you for a great tutorial 👍

Knowledge is power! Glad I could be of help to you with this video. Hope everything works out for your truck.
Mine did that too. Another one of GM's finer moments....along with the tail gate latch, the instrument cluster, the glove box latch, the rust, etc etc
END SLAVERY yup!
I'd honestly wouldn't cry if someone stole it. No matter where I park it though, nobody wants it.
END SLAVERY I had the same feeling about a Chevette I drove in high school.

Forgot rusted fuel lines, rusted brake lines, the 4x4 switch..... lol
Field expedience!! Great job brother!!

You're awesome! Keep posting
Good video just what I needed to know.

Unfortunately my bottom latch is broken and I still can't open it
You ever find out how to fix it?
You are the MAN! ! thanks dude good vid no B.S.
Man, super cool!
Great video!! Thanks a ton man you helped me alot!
Thank you, I had the same Problem.
I'm going to try it. thanks
Would this also be the problem if it will open from the inside, but not the handle between the doors? TIA
The one handle must be broken, if the other one opens the door.
@@TheDaninator so how to fix just that one? 🙈
Thank you
This just happened to me - thank YT and thank you - if i have to come up with another solution i will post
same exact problem...
Is there another latch besides the one at bottom that releases door?
Corey Kirkwood yes, one at the top as well.
@@TheDaninator how can I fix the top one clip being broken on the bottom rod?
This happened to my 05
How woukd u do the back back door
Interesting, I replaced the plastic clips with modified metal carburator linkage rod clips. On doors and tailgate.
Good idea! Thanks for sharing your tip
Do you have a link by chance??? Thanks!
Thank you very much!
Glad it helped!
Happened to my 01 3/4ton
Good info n it work out great for me
Glad you got it fixed!
Would it be the same on a 98 k1500?
Not sure. Probably pretty similar.
It's A Dumb Question, But It's The Only One I Got.. How'd You Get That Bolt Attached To The Rod? Some Typa Glue Or Some
I bent the rod into a 90 degree angle. The end of the rod is threaded. I found a nut to screw onto the end. Only thing I should have done that I didn't, was to put some thread locker on it.
@@TheDaninator Ahhh Makes Sense Now
mine doesn’t open from the driver side i can only open in from the inside what could be the problem ?
pussydestroyer cuhh there must be an issue with the handle. The push rod must have come loose from its connector at the handle.
The Daninator ok thanks i will look in to it this weekend,,,, i also have another issue my little sibling broke the latch from the back window, by any chance you know if there’s a way to still open the window?
grasias me alludo mucho thank you so much
Wow....that is some odd engineering right there. Great trucks for the most part though.
Do you know what size nut that is by any chance?
Ian Rubrecht a 3/8" wrench fits on it
My latch is still connected but my clamp that goes on that clip isn’t opening
Better put some red threadlocker on that nut, bud, or you'll be tearing that door apart again to fish out the nut and repeat this job.
butchtheiw good tip. It has been over three years and it’s still holding. I must be livin right. Lol.
Hopefully someone is still subscribe to this video, lol. Amazingly enough, the push rods and plastic clips are still intact on my 99 Siliverado, however the door will still not release. She ain't budging Daninator. PB Blaster didn't work, I can't figure it out. I'm gonna mess with it a little more today and see what happens.
mine was frozen so bad i had to remove it and replace it with new
How did you open it? I have same problem I cannot for the life of me open the door the latching mechanism on the bottom of the door seems to be stuck and won't release
My rod fell off in the middle by the handle and it’s way more confusing
Mine doesn’t even have an inside handle only the outside one
Door is fixed but your rocker aren't
They use these dumb, brittle plastic clip on the tailgate latch rods too.
Thank you.
