You sir are the Mr. Rogers of "how to" repairs. Outstanding video! Other channels could learn alot about how to do this type of video correctly. Well done.
@@Thebobfactor You're welcome! I've got an 05 chevy that I have to replace the door latch and power window assemblies on. Watched a few videos on the latch assembly replacement and yours was the best by far. Thank you for taking the time to make such a detailed video. Much appreciated.
I just finished this job. Thanks to your tutorial it was an easy job. You did a fantastic job of explaining every step. I had trouble with the inside door lock rod. I ended up unsnapping it from the 3 door connections and took the latch out with the rod attached. Then I could press the rod out of the latch. I could get good pressure on it when it was in the door but it wouldn't budge. Thanks a million for this video.
Great video. Your attention to detail on the plastic connectors is awesome and much appreciated The plastic connectors are the one thing about this job that is not straightforward.
Had the identical issue with my 2007 2500HD Classic. This video showed me every step I needed to replace the latch assembly. Had the laptop sitting on the front seat while I performed each step, and Mr. Hosea nailed it! Thanks Robert!
My door latch on my 2000 Suburban broke today and the door wouldn’t shut. I had to look up how to get the door panel off and how to replace the latch. This was the best video I found on how to do that. Thank you. Maybe I can get it replaced as soon as I can find a new latch.
Awesome video! My power lock wasn't working so I needed to replace latch. I truly could not have done without this video!! Everything works great now. Thank you!
Great tutorial... I'm getting ready to tackle the latch on my '04 Silverado and this will be a big help. Thank you for posting without all the background wind noise, obnoxious music etc. Edit: I finally got around to installing the new latch assy today some 120 days after my initial comments. Process was as described with slight variance in door panel removal/reinstall (2004 Z71 Silverado w/Bose Sound) procedure but otherwise video is spot on with instructions and commentary. Again, thanks for taking time and producing such an outstanding tutorial. mardyn
Awesome video! I’d add 2 things. 1 window up to stay clear of connections and mechanism and 2 turn off the interior lights as the small door panel light can get quite hot!
Excellent video for replacing the door latch assembly. THX. In this case, the top electrical connector pins had corroded to the point on intermittent contact, usually on a bump that resulted in the door locks going on off on off on off. In addition, the dome lights would not go off upon door closure, and the dash warning was "driver door not closed". Thx for the video>
Just like every other comment, best tutorial on You Tube. Thanks for taking the time to do such a detailed video. I'm ready to tackle mine. Subbed and liked.
Great job on the video, but to add a problem with the replacement, the clip for the threaded rod, the new clip didn’t fit so I used the old one. But thanks for the help!
great tutorial. I need to do this to both of my doors, but most importantly, the passenger side door. It does not open from the inside and if you close it a couple of times it will lock itself from the outside... its such a pain
No, it's a different part number. The passenger doors don't have a key lock like the driver's side does. Here's a link to one on Amazon that says it fits the passenger door on my 2006 Silverado: www.amazon.com/OTUAYAUTO-Actuator-Front-Right-Passenger/dp/B088NW1BPB/ref=sr_1_3?crid=V3R1HES38SBS&keywords=2006+chevy+silverado+door+latch+passenger&qid=1706140811&replacementKeywords=door+latch+passenger&sprefix=2006+chevy+silverado+door+latch+passenger%2Caps%2C178&sr=8-3&vehicle=2006-47-491------------&vehicleName=2006+Chevrolet+Silverado+1500
Very well done video & quite easy to do after watching. I have a question, did your door seem a little tiny bit rougher to close after swapping the actuator out? I bought the same one as you did. I’m assuming cause it’s a new piece it’s going to take a little open close use of the door to “wear” down enough. Ps this is a good time to clean the old grease off of window tracks/door lock rods & re-grease. Super lube works perfect for this.
No, I didn't notice any difference on how it opened or closed. It seems fine. Do you notice any sag at all in the door when it's opened that might be caused from worn door pins? I had changed out the door pins on mine a few months before I replaced the door latch assembly. Maybe the old door latch assembly has also worn a bit if the the pins are letting the door sag, and now the new latch assembly is having to lift the door when it's closed, as the door latch post that's on the door frame is going inside the new latch. That's a guess though.
Hi Mark. No, I'm sorry I haven't done that one yet. And I still have the old one sitting on my bench so that I could use it in a video. I'll hopefully get to it in the near future, but that doesn't help you out at all right now. Sorry Mark.
Robert, this was an excellent video!! I have a question for you I will try to make it short. My 07 classic started to do this and I wasn’t sure what the issue was. It would go off eventually so I didn’t really worry about it. But then while driving I had somthing weird happen. The truck “dinged” a few times and my radio went black. I have checked everything and can’t get my radio to come on. Sinse it had started to not shut off when the doors were open I figured I should investigate that, when I found this video sure enough my truck dose not chime when the door is open and the key is in the ignition. My question is, could this be the reason my stereo is NOT turning on? I have traced everything and checked every fuse. Please let me know if this issue could cause the radio to go off and not come on, could it be tricking the radio even thoe the truck is on and doors are shut? Thanks
Hi David. It sounds to me like you have something else going on with your radio, because even if the switch in the door was stuck open or stuck closed, the radio should still come on once you turn the key on. I believe the switch in the door will only effect the circuit that the radio is on when the key is turned off. It might be that there is a problem with the ignition (key) switch itself, or with the wiring harness. I'll do some checking. If I come up with anything I will sure let you know.
Great view video! Don’t be a dummy and start with window down 😂. Also once connectors are disconnected it helps to disconnect wiring loom from door frame ( one push connector ) and get the connectors out of work space. Once again thanks!
Great video. My problem is the reverse of yours. Dome lights won’t come on when opening passenger door. I can’t seem to find your contact cleaning video. 🤷🏻♂️
Sorry John, I never did get a chance to make that other video about cleaning the contacts. As far as your passenger door not turning on the dome light, if it also doesn't turn off the radio when the passenger door is opened, then it's the exact same problem with a defective switch in the door latch assembly.
@@Thebobfactor just finished fixing my truck. In my case when I replaced the latch assembly a while back, I didn’t have the switch gear clocked correctly. Removed the switch from the latch assembly, clocked it correctly an then reassembled & installed it. Good video but my problem is my driver door is stuck close it won’t open and I was having problems with the door latch not closing the door and I clicked the locks and moved door handle and it closed and after that it won’t open does anybody know how I could open it thanks in advance
If the radio is also on when the cluster lights are on, then I'd say yes. However, if it's only the cluster lights that are staying on, then it's probably something else causing them to stay on.
It sounds like the same problem. But just to be sure, did you try moving the driver's side door's latch to see if the cluster lights (and/or radio) will go off? I show doing that in the video.
