Thanks man, i did it your way in the end. I bought the plastic pieces in Autozone for like 4 dollars, put in on the locking rod, but for the love of god i could not force it in the whole, and i was trying for like 30 minutes lol. So i just took it off, bent the tip a little like you did, and noe it works like a charm
Thanks for the video, I was able get my door back on line. Although I bought an assortment of plastic clips instead of bending the rod, still very helpful 👍👍👍.
4 vids on youtube about fixing stuck rear Silverado ext cab doors and all 4 of them are stuck on the bottom.... Of course. Mine is stuck on the top part... Here I go reinventing the wheel again!
Grateful Nomad Will the bottom latch operate if you pull the rod up using your hand? I’m just wondering if there’s not enough tension from pulling the handle to release the bottom latch. If that is the case then you might need to replace the handle. They’re cheap and also cheaply made.
@@ebkbode The handle actually broke off a while back when it got real cold so I have been manually pushing the lever. When I reach down and pull the rod it is being fully extended and I can hear the latch release but the door will not open. It will open at the top but not the bottom. I sprayed it down with WD40 and put a screw driver in there and tapped it with a hammer to tet and break the rust free but it did not help.
Grateful Nomad Damn that sucks. You may need to jimmy the latch with whatever you can find? It’s hard to say without seeing it myself. If you are able to jimmy the latch open, then obviously don’t close it again without repairing or replacing the worn component. Good luck man.
I saw another guy, same problem, he used a crowbar under the door because over time they can sag. This took pressure off and he wiggled back and forth, pulled lever and it release. Maybe use some penetrating oil first.
you sir are a life saver. Got it back to working so I can use it once every ten years !
Your a saint bud. Love the tutorial!
You're a gentleman and a scholar, Your kindness is only exceeded by your appreciation for mankind!
Damn. The information & video was extremely helpful, but you act as though you want to marry the guy. Geez. 😕
Thanks for the video!!! Solved my problem on my 01 Silverado.

You’re welcome! Who knew this was such a common issue…
Where did you buy the clips from, could you please send me a link?
Awesome, thank you. Now I can use my door again! Ps. I also have melted crayons in my cup holders 😅
Haha, melted crayons gives the door character. I’m glad the vid helped. 🤙🏻
JACKPOT!! Exactly the video I needed, thanks for posting it!

A little all over with the camera, but I sure appreciate the video! Great job!

AWESOME DUDE THANK YOU
What happen both rods are hooked up and bottom latch won't unlock ..wd 40 over and over any help
Thank you for making this video I just fix my truck 😁
Elphoenix1 No prob!
Was the door panel difficult to get off with the door shut & rear seat folded down?
Eric Jansen I just popped out the forward side and reached in to pull up on the rod. After I opened the door, I took it off...
It’s a bitch to get off, just be careful and slow and you shouldn’t brake anything. When the door won’t open there isn’t a lot of space to work with
It wrkd. thanks big!
Thank u sir.
Thank you for the video!! 👍🏽
My actual latch at the bottom won’t open. All rods attached I think what ever is on the latch broke
Great video!!!!! Thank u sir for your help
Jimmy Inglish Absolutely! 👍🏻
Exactly what I needed, thank you!
My rod is working but the bottom latch will still not release for the door to open. Suggestions?
