I am 75 and been on BP meds 20 years. In July 2022 gave up all sugar, carbs, processed foods, and seed oils. In one month I was able to toss my BP meds! I also tossed the stupid statin that gives people insulin resistance!!! I am trying to reverse my insulin resistance now.
I have lost 23 lbs in 5 months and weigh 119 at 5’ 5”. Wish I knew how HORRIBLE sugar is for us sooner in life.

Fatty brisket is my favorite these days. If it is too fatty, I cut the excess off and save it to put in the air fryer and eat with eggs or whatever. Bonus is it is very reasonable to buy. I cut a big brisket into servings and freeze. Put it in the Instant pot with broth and then brown in the air fryer, LOVE IT!

I loved this interview. Dr. Madany is articulate, good natured and seems to genuinely love his calling to help people. I especially loved the nursing home story! If we could have health care professionals go into those facilities and offer hope to people just THROUGH THE FOOD THEY EAT, lives could be turned around!
I felt like I could have listened for another couple of hours.

Every day I become more aware of the benefits of the carnivore diet. Decades of eating this way and expecting the heart attack now over 50 looking like under 40 and feeling like 25, I am happy to see every experience you bring. Oh my!!! Dr. Baker you have saved me over and over with your wisdom! I was one of the first in San Diego area with Covid in late 2019. I was trying to recover from a broken back and was very sedentary when I developed the terrible Covid lungs. I struggled for months to just breath and my G.P. of 17 years started mentioning " inflammation ". In early 2020 I developed bilateral carpel tunnel ( I am a tech but my left hand did not have a burden on it) and was trying to understand what my body was telling me. I had serious spinal surgery Feb 2021 and then my GP told me I was a Covid Longhauler, employer mandated v$#@ and I ended up going to the hospitol Sept 21 diagnosed Covid Sequelae, massive inflammation. My GP started mentioning Metabolics but he didnt tell me what that meant. CT scans st Hospitol showed multiple tumors developed very rapidly. More trauma to my body, endured Oct 21, 2021 eye surgery and left breast surgery March 2022 to remove tumors. Covid the third time Dec 2021/ Jan 2022. Nearly died. Desperate I found you on UA-cam with Dt. Berry. My GP resigned leaving me during the shutdown without a doctor. The doctors were very overwhelmed. Desperate I started learning how to read tests and pulled research papers on metabolic disfunction. Suddenly I understood that I had a non alcoholic fatty liver and I WAS metabolically disfunctional and my bilateral carpel tunnel, muscle and joint pain, months and months of terrible lung congestion was all INFLAMMATION due to metabolic disfunction. When I told my Oncologist to please give me a CGM he said, " Why at least your not on insulin". I got the monitor and it confirm my suspicions. Of course I immediately started keto and for 45 days ate every other day. My fatty liver subsided. I got well enough for " radiation therapy " which was admittedly over done! I suddenly realized the "radiation therapy " had exponentially raised my inflammation and I became literally crippled. Every joint in my body hurt, walking was like walking on glass. Not a single doctor knew what to do. I begged for blood tests to check for inflammation. The PAIN was overwhelming, I could not sleep, drive, think and seriously considered jumping off the top of the La Jolla Xmed building. Dr. Baker mentioned that prednisone could help with " inflammarory arthritis " in his book. I had a old prescription of prednisone for asthma on hand for a year. I started a run and within four days I could feel the tsunami wave of PAINFUL INFLAMMATION receded . July 2022 my sister in law and husband became very sick with Covid, as my pain receded I cared for them. She didnt make it, she was on 32 meds and had wanted to change her life to getting of meds and eating carnivore. Her last meal with me was steak. I contracted Covid for the fourth time but this time I could feel my body was more nutritionally fit. I recovered after 6 weeks. I went Carnivore in July and my Covid team couldnt believe my health improved though OMAD and Carnivore was not recommended. I switched my health care provider when the radiologist Oncologist tried to pressure me into more radiation when I developed stage 4 radiation toxicity. I now am studying micro biology. I dumped all the meds. Today Dec. 26, 2022 I can now hike 10 miles when in Jan 2022 I could barely walk to the house next door. Emperical studies proved I was over radiated and it will take a year or more in ketosis to starve out and potential cancer reoccurrence. I contacted Dr. Thomas Seyfried and follow his metabolic protocols for mitochondrial health. I now eat rumanant meat, animal fat to satiety and maintain 2.5 ketosis very easily. It's been a journey. If I had not heard you Dr. Baker talk about inflammation and taken a simple run of prednisone I might not be here now. God Bless you for all you do

I don't know him personally, but my family members do - I grew up in the town where he practices now, and I was born in the tiny community 40 miles away where he first practiced. In fact, my dad was on the board of his current hospital back then and helped to bring him there. Every time I see one of his interviews, I am even more impressed with his intellectual curiosity and how much he's continued to learn and apply with his patients. My hometown is lucky to have him. I've been carnivore since March 2020. Type 1 diabetic for 50 years with no additional health concerns. Went from 6.7 to 5.4 on my HbA1C. I drink only organic, whole, A2 milk for hypoglycemia. ( See "Devil in the Milk" for why A2 is the way to go.
Can't get away from insulin. Starting DHEA recently to help with hormone balance, as I'm 54.
When I went to South Africa late summer and ate some things not carnivore, I felt it immediately.
My endocrinologist wanted me on a statin, about 8 months ago. All he looked at was my total cholesterol. So typical. Hard no! Even the Kaiser online labs page, looks at ALL components of a lipid panel and puts me at a negligible risk for heart disease. I am actually a lean mass hyper producer.
Having lived both sides of the coin...The ridiculous USDA recommendations, vs ketovore and carnivore. The Amer. Diabetes Association and JDRF should be prosecuted for criminal activity. They aren't looking for cures...They make $$$ on keeping people sick. Their recommendations are ALL WRONG!

If you feel oppressed it's because you are not working hard enough. The only way to beat the system is do like the Muslims do. Have large families that work hard and " share purchasing power " then buy the biggest and best of everything. Like here in the UK. They also have the bank of Islam. Which is interest free. Research it. Personally I don't eat carbs anymore but eat meat/ fish and veg and fruit and nuts. There's not much to buy in my local store anymore its all sugar and wheat products. I read " Grain Brain " and just gave it all up. You won't find any oils in my house. Just butter or lard. I am 49 turning 50 in May 23 and I have a 6 pack. Which I haven't seen for 32 years so trust me a fatty meat diet works. Plus my aches and pains are very much reduced and my thoughts clearer. But that probably because you have to give up alcohol when you give up the sugar. Although I had 2 shots on Christmas Dinner with friends. Since then I had a couple of Ice cream tubs 500g each. But it's Christmas and I might have another on New Year's eve and then back to being strict with my health once more. Good luck guys. I hope to visit Hawaii one day. God bless.

However, it took me 6 weeks to get my mind mentally wrapped around committing to doing this! I watched this episode today while enjoying a Ribeye steak cooked in bacon fat. However I drank mocha I made with heavy cream and sweetened monk fruit. My question I probably already know the answer to but want confirmations. " Is just having that sweetness alone raising my insulin? " I know I do much better with just meat and water. But mentally I use this drink to get me through. It's important that I don't have to think about wanting it. I swear it must have addictive properties. I know this instinctively, but I am having trouble getting away from my mocha drink.

Good luck with low carb and skilled nursing places. I volunteered for several years pre-C, and almost 100% residents able to attend activities requested desserts, white flour crackers, real soda pops and wine at weekly activities-as,much as they could consume and not vomit later. I understood exactly how they felt. I tried suggesting low carb with general explanations and the residents were gentle with me, but there was NO enthusiasm. The nurses corrected me saying that by law, any resident can refuse medications, and healthcare advice. I made a remark to the physician making rounds and she chuckled at me with a look of disbelief, explaining that their brains need carbohydrates to function correctly and to just look at them and see how happy they are on ice cream sundae day. I compromised by consistently adding cheese chunks and cubes of snack meats along side the cookies and pretzels and candy. That worked well and eased my anxiety.

Great interview. Probably my favorite. As a Native Hawaiian, your discussion about diabetes in indigenous communities really resonated with me. We have very similar health statistics. We also have our own kind of fry bread here in the form of grain based staples introduced by various plantation immigrants. Rice and pasta did not exist in the Native Hawaiian diet pre-contact, but these starches typically take the most real estate on our plates these days. That and alcohol…

Regarding high blood sugar on a low carb diet- my guess would be that muscle mass plays a really significant role in keeping glucose down. Seems to be that people with a decent amount of muscle do NOT get glucose spikes from overeating protein and have lower levels generally in the morning. It's either the muscle mass itself or the actual exercising that is regulating

It’s strange I have always loved the fat on the meat. I would eat the fat and let my husband eat the lean. I am 65 and completely healthy I have never taken any medication. I only like the skin on poultry. I also love the sun. I guess I intuitively knew what was good for me. Also grew our own food.

I know this space dismisses the microbiome idea of " fiber is necessary " & I agree as I recently had a negative experience with fermented dairy, I believe that the culture was too concentrated (I made it myself) & it left me with intermittent head aches, may be from a histamine response, not sure really.... thank you doctors

What drives me up the wall is that I have family members have a variety of lifestyle related health issues. Yet, they won't even consider looking into ways to alleviate those problems.
It's like independent research is forbidden because they ask a question once in a while to their doctor.

The latest reasons I’ve heard from vegan/vegetarians for not being on a low carb diet is blood specificity. They argue that your blood type will determine your diet. Are there blood types that only positively react to vegan/vegetarian diets?

I go to my local Publix and but a ribeye side. I ask the to slice it and LEAVE ON ALL THE FAT. There’s a tail of fat on each ribeye that provides the right amount of fat. We need to ask grocers and butchers to leave on the fat. Also, grass fed beef is too lean. They are harvested too young. They should be 5 years old. By age five they have developed beautiful fat. But this is not economical for the ranchers. This is why I eat grain-fattened cows.

I have been studying metabolic disease for a long time, and I have come to the conclusion that it is not caused mainly by high insulin. It's actually caused by fructose consumption. Historically, that is what we see. Societies that eat starches like potatoes, corn and rice without fructose basically never get diabetes, but societies that eat fructose do. If Gary Taubes was correct, then diabetes would have been rampant among agricultural societies that ate lots of starches. This is not what we see. When sugar from sugar beets and sugar cane was introduced, diabetes followed along perfectly. If you look at all societies that increase their fructose consumption, diabetes always follows. This rule is basically never been shown to not be true.

Dr. Baker, I think Fibrocystic breast disease is an autoimmune problem. Carnivore could cure it by removing veggies! Someone needs to do a study on this as I feel vegetable oxalates cause it, bromine, and cruciferous veggies like broccoli and cabbage- due to them blocking iodine absorption in natural foods. These organs can get oxalates stored in there and also need iodine. Those could each be a separate study. But it needs to be done. Fibrocystic breasts is escalating and some say over time the masses in the fibrocystic tissue could lead to breast cancer. But even the ovarian cancer and uterine cancer, and PCOS could be linked to all this too!
