It was life saver. I discontinued 7 meds including two insulin injections. My BP normalized and I don’t use CPAP anymore. Oh I forgot to say I lost almost 50 lbs.

I never separate the fat from my meat. And never buy fat free anything. I thought myself how to read and act my CGM data. I walk 6 miles a day no matter what. I had my last slice of pizza at thanksgiving 2021 and I didn’t miss it at all. I hope it helps. What works for me might not work for everyone. Find your way.

that was pretty comprehensive, appreciate it, indeed. I would like to comment on 2 biomarkers, the HbA1c and LDL. A1c is dependent on the MCV and RDW, which together reflect the average age of RBC. That age can vary in a range of 15% around the "3 months" average. Actually there are very few studies having determined the age of the RBC at all, because it is very difficult. Add to this a higher MCV, which can be caused by chronic folate deficiency, yu easily get a range of variation of 25% of a hypothetical value. 12.5% of 5.5 mmol in either direction yields 4.8 or 6.2. Without an estimation of the age via MCV, MCVC and RDW ithe A1c is anything but reliable. It should be handled carefully. . Second about LDL, Yes you mentioned the LMHR,. Yet you still advocate ApoB. LDL AND ApoB are surrogates based on a deeply inappropriate theory.Hence they are both crap. What is critical is oxidized LDL, which can be measured by size distribution of LDL, and partially the VLDL particles. Talking about "Bad LDL" is like the tale of the inherited sin, aka all people are bad. Neither people (that is an assumption) nor LDL are apriori "bad" as a global group. There is a precise mechanism, and a precise measurement, so every professional, at least those, should stop talking about "bad" LDL. LMHR people have to care a lot about there oxidative capacity in the blood, and have to keep it as low as possible.

F/45/TX currently awaiting biopsy and accepted at MD Anderson as a patient. They're great so far, lots of diagnostic testing and already scheduled for surgery due the mass and thrombosis. Sadly, no talk of nutrition while awaiting surgery. The internal medicine Dr shot me down the first day when I mentioned metabolic therapy. After researching on my own, I've done water fasting and using my keto mojo several times a day. I've maintained high level therapeutic ketosis on my own. MRI done again last night. Hoping to see progress. If it didn't cost money, I would seek out another dr to assist in testing.

That’s not “high” ketones. Ketoacidosis is high. That’s up around 8. And the scale is logarithmic, so you aren’t even close to high.

Knowledge about ketosis changed my life. Since 2017 low carb....although not always strict, although not obese, having not any serious illness before but anyway it changed my life healthwise.
@bonnieschmidt5882 in my very particular case, when I'm doing keto I start to have joint pain everywhere. it's a reaction to fat consumption, like after a fatty meal in 10 minutes I'll have random joint pain, normally in my fingers, hands, or elbows that goes away after some time. If I keep eating fatty meals, the pain becomes permanent. With it I also start to feel intoxicated and have brain fog. And blood work shows elevated CRP. So I've been reading about these random arthritis-like joint pain and they also appear in some cirrhosis patients and go away when liver numbers are improved. My liver numbers are ok, but I have discinesia of bile conduct and I think that something goes wrong with fat metabolism when I increase my fat intake. This is just a theory, and I may be very wrong, but my case is very strange, nobody could help me to understand what is happening to me, so I have to teat my own hypothesis.
So I can use my hsCRP as a proxy for my insulin levels? My GP has waist size close to 60 inches and his grey matter is inversely proportional to his white matter volume to be tactful and here in Ontario our very metabolically ill government can not see its way to attracting competent MDs to Ontario so I'm stuck with one that unfortunately does not know more than me Appears to know less than me.
I’m not 100% sure that my meat-based diet is the best one for me, but I eat only whole real foods that are nutrient-dense while avoiding sugar, grains, and seed oils. One thing I do know is that I’m not going to accept diet advice from someone who is obviously unhealthy themselves.
Thanks for blood work details. I'm WFPB. Eat brown rice and potatoes too. But no junk food and very little alcohol. Only animal food is a small amount of wild fish. Last hsCRP was 0.3 and HbA1c was 4.9. ApoB of 67, so need a little work to get < 60, my goal. B12 is ~ 700, but supplement. Age 69. Don't check insulin. long term 16/8 TRE.
To know your insulin levels best to get a fasting insulin done but however if you glucose ketone ratio is 2.0 or less your insulin is likely not too high

Well im out of keytosis after being in for 2 weeks..0nly 0.3 ketones and 80 glucose so I'm fasting until tomorrow and i hate it lol..i do use exogenous ketones but not everyday..i do intermittant fasting but not enough to stay in ketosis along with keto diet..i get kicked out of keytosis fast .
Once you're fat adapted, the body uses the ketones and you will not register as high or barely at all. That does not mean you're not in ketosis - if you are eating high fat and using time restricted eating, you will be in ketosis. 🙂
@@mariejones7136 to get into deeper ketosis you can 1) eat higher fat, lower carbs, 2) fast, 3) EXERCISE. Works like a charm - do Zone 2 endurance training for at least 20 min a day, 3x a week. Doing it in a fasted state would be even better. Go for a walk after each meal.
I have been carnivore for a while, practice time restricted eating and exercise. My ketone levels are still low. I don't understand it. I want to be in therapeutic ketosis for mental health issues and Dr Palmer says ketones should be 1.6 to 2 to see benefits. I can't get anywhere near that. Also, I used to take Mct oil, did nothing for my levels. Any idea why they could be still so low?
A theory to look into is that a high protein diet could be causing gluconeogenesis where your body is turning protein into glucose and keeping your bs higher and out of ketosis. I’m not a doctor but believe this was my issue with super high protein diet

I had to stop obsessing about it so much. I’m sure you’ve been doing this a long time and know more than I do but wanted to mention something I noticed for me…even though I was super low carb I struggled to get into ketosis at the beginning. It took me 48 hours of fasting to finally get into a low level of ketosis-then it was easier able to maintain it and get into. Just a thought:)

Not eating isn't an option for someone like me bc it spikes anxiety. I'm hoping that it's just my metabolism still in the process of repairing and that eventually it will be ok. I'm on day 44 of carnivore, was keto for a month before that, so I'm new to this 🙂

I've been following a Keto diet for 5 years. I notice that when I'm in ketosis, my sleep is disrupted and I commonly wake at 3am with an inability to go back to sleep. Is this common?
I get b12 shots methocobalimn. Every 2 months. A week before its due I feel so tired and weak its as if my body knows its due Even on keto I still need the shot. Its so essential and cheap as chips
I had neuropathy. Went on keto and got rid of the symptoms. They come back even from a small concentration of dietary glucose. Been on keto now 10 years of which last 5 on carnivore. I have searched the literature for an explanation and found it from the realm of bio quantum mechanics. Deuterium content elevation has so far been a strong indicator. Structured water, electron and photon resonance driving redox signalig in mitochondria is a huge factor that is underpinning all the molecular jargon I had to stand during the ten years of struggle and learning. My fortune is that I already understood physics better than chemistry. Since I have got that part too. Deuterium depleation and semiconducting water as a solar radiation collector thus the driving force of life itself.

I’m not hearing the downsides for many (women especially) wherein sustained higher ketones affect/raise cortisol and other sleep destroying hormones as time goes on. Dom: Should a 110lb 5’2” 65 yrs woman add (?) carbs to balance things out in favor of lengthening sleep/raising quality of sleep? Help? I’m almost at the hour mark and I know one test is high. The doctors give everyone so if my fasting blood sugar is high I know I need help and I don’t need to take and spend money on all these other subtle test. keto is not a weight loss diet see Dr Ken Berry's vids on Proper Human Diet. you don't restrict eating. eat until you are comfortably stuffed. your body will find its correct weight.
LDL cholesterol is not BAD cholesterol. Your body needs and produces it because it's needed to maintain life. LDL is not cholesterol it is a lipid transportation vehicle to move cholesterol around the body. The only "bad" LDL are those that get damaged by oxidation and become small dense LDL lipids.
No one who is metabolically well should control cholesterol. Let the body control it. Your body produces what it needs. Otherwise this is a really good presentation. The cholesterol part seems like he’s playing it safe. The science says if your trigs are low and your hdl is high your “risk” is low. LDL is a useless measurement in every way.
Fundamentally, ketosis is REQUIRED, not theraputic. Like saying breathing is theraputic. Yeah, kind of obvious Navy Seals need to be in ketosis. Also little old grandmas, children and well anyone... Just dont block it by constantly eating starches and sugars.

Required for what? How is a metabolic state that is basically strarvation, "required" for grandma, children, and anyone? Cholesterol shouldn’t be monitored. Let the body produce what it needs and focus on metabolic health. Triglycerides is much more important as a heart disease predictor but is ignored by many doctors. HDL should be high and trigs should be low.

My lab report shows B12 should be in range of 197 to 771. I had 2000+, though. Before I was eating meat, it was more like 800.

Not every food affects people in the same way. There are foods that don’t affect glucose spikes in some but do in others.

In my case, CRP went up on clean keto. My hypothesis is that has to do with liver or gallbladder issues, so I started working on them.

It's important to check fasting insulin levels!
Also bone density, plant based people lose bone mass faster than others. Google studies.
Look up the toxins in potatos. Oxylates damage the brain and eyes. Don’t eat roots in general. Nightshades are bad business.
Glad to see that those results can be achieved on a Whole Foods/plant-based diet.

Eat more fat, fewer carbs and protein. Yeah, fasting works too. But so does bacon and egg yolks.

A theory to look into is that a high protein diet could be causing gluconeogenesis where your body is turning protein into glucose and keeping your bs higher and out of ketosis. I’m not a doctor but believe this was my issue with super high protein diet
@@JuliePeterson-12345 I eat high fat and check my glucose, which is great so that's why I'm not sure why my ketones are so low. It's confusing. Maybe I should stop obsessing about it 😂 but I'm worried that if I'm not in therapeutic ketosis I'm not getting full effects of this lifestyle
@@gratefulagoraphobe I know all too well how obsessing about these things can drive us nuts😂. When I started carnivore my bs actually went up and it made me crazy. I had to stop obsessing about it so much.
I’m sure you’ve been doing this a long time and know more than I do but wanted to mention something I noticed for me…even though I was super low carb I struggled to get into ketosis at the beginning. It took me 48 hours of fasting to finally get into a low level of ketosis-then it was easier able to maintain it and get into. Just a thought:)
@@JuliePeterson-12345 I have thought of it, and tried omad and they went up slightly. My problem is that I am doing this because of extreme anxiety. Not eating isn't an option for someone like me bc it spikes anxiety. I'm hoping that it's just my metabolism still in the process of repairing and that eventually it will be ok. I'm on day 44 of carnivore, was keto for a month before that, so I'm new to this 🙂
@@gratefulagoraphobe that totally makes sense. I think just avoiding processed carbs and sticking with carnivore rather than hitting ketosis is more important to reducing anxiety. Keep doing what you’re doing! I hope you are and start feeling better!
I've been following a Keto diet for 5 years. I notice that when I'm in ketosis, my sleep is disrupted and I commonly wake at 3am with an inability to go back to sleep. Is this common?
It’s temporary- it passes - lots of transitory problems go away with persistence and consistency.

The doctors give everyone so if my fasting blood sugar is high I know I need help and I don’t need to take and spend money on all these other subtle test. LDL cholesterol is not BAD cholesterol. Your body needs and produces it because it's needed to maintain life. LDL is not cholesterol it is a lipid transportation vehicle to move cholesterol around the body.
The only "bad" LDL are those that get damaged by oxidation and become small dense LDL lipids.
No one who is metabolically well should control cholesterol. Let the body control it. Your body produces what it needs. Otherwise this is a really good presentation. The cholesterol part seems like he’s playing it safe. The science says if your trigs are low and your hdl is high your “risk” is low. LDL is a useless measurement in every way.

I’ve been doing low carb for 6 years, fasting started carnivore January 1st, I’m a metabolically healthy 58 years young male but I’m not in ketosis. I’m burning fat and building muscle and feel great so is continued ketosis really REQUIRED? FYI when I fast I get into ketosis.

There is no “bad cholesterol”.
Cholesterol shouldn’t be monitored. Let the body produce what it needs and focus on metabolic health. Triglycerides is much more important as a heart disease predictor but is ignored by many doctors. HDL should be high and trigs should be low.

Dr. D‘Agostino is one of the most knowledgeable persons on this planet when it comes to ketogenic diet and its therapeutical applications, and his conferences are chock full of serious scientific information. Maybe if you watch the conference several times you can process it better.

Sorry you found it so..... To me it is a well presented but complex subject matter, interesting and comprehensive. Thought provoking. No its not a "do ketosis" cookbook, there are plenty of 10 minute videos on that, ie superficial knowledge level for those who want to practice the basics without needing to know the background theory.
It's a scientific talk, not a clinical how-to manual.
An hour and twenty minutes to share 15 minutes of relevant info. Too long winded. Tighten up your presentation. Overall a waste of time
