This week’s episode of The Metabolic Link features an illuminating sit-down interview with Dr. Georgia Ede, a Harvard-trained psychiatrist specializing in nutrition science and brain metabolism. With over 25 years of clinical experience, including 12 years as a college psychiatrist and nutrition consultant at Smith College and Harvard University Health Services, Dr. Ede was the first to offer students nutrition-based approaches as an alternative to psychiatric medications. She speaks internationally about using dietary therapies for psychiatric disorders, co-authored the first inpatient study of the ketogenic diet for treatment-resistant mental illness, and developed the first accredited course on ketogenic diets for mental health practitioners. Her new book Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind was published in January 2024.
In this wide-ranging interview, we cover:
-Implementing a therapeutic ketogenic diet in Dr. Ede’s clinical practice and the mental health benefits observed
-The critical role of ketones in alleviating cerebral glucose hypometabolism
-Why metabolic health forms the foundation for optimal mental health
-The lack of practical nutrition education in medical training and why it matters
-Alzheimer’s disease as a metabolic disorder
-The importance of insulin levels, not just glucose, for gauging metabolic health
Be sure to catch Dr. Ede on The Metabolic Psychiatry Panel featuring Dr. Chris Palmer, Dr. Iain Campbell, and Matt Baszucki. On-Demand access closes on Friday, February 16th so don't wait! Get your virtual pass at metabolichealthsummit.com.

Believe this. I am 73 years old and was on antidepressants since I was 26 and had a couple of suicide attempts. After 2 years keto am now tapering my last antidepressant. Have gone from 300 mg dose to 37 1/2 every other day. I do have some bad periods but usually not a whole day instead of weeks.

I want this information to get out to all the medication injury groups. Ketosis has given me my life back after being couch bound for 6 years from benzos.

People need to be advised and educated about these drugs before they are put on them.
To me it is a crime,it has robbed me of so much of my life.
      At least l have hope.

Read the book. Jaw dropping “ah-ha” moments for me. Husband and I now doing paleo. Already lost a few pounds in the first week but more importantly I wake up and can get moving into my day so much quicker and smoother.

Transitioning to a ketogenic diet and maintaining it is the single best thing I've ever done for myself. Ever. After a lifetime of depression and a decade of prescribed benzodiazepines that severely damaged my CNS, being in ketosis has given me my life back in a way I didn't even know was possible. I was gifted Dr Ede's book quite recently and it has been a huge help in fine tuning and helping me understand why this is working so well.
If people only knew how much better they could feel.

I bought the book but couldn't get the audio in Australia. I bought Dr Palmers audio no problems. Its worth getting both, I am half way through.

consider also that the biggest source of oxidative stress, ros's and thus inflammation is excess, unbound, poorly recycled and dysregulsted iron due to the dietary lack of bioavailable copper and its ceruloplasmin transport and oxidase enzymes
the real sugary culprit is fructose which lowers cellular atp, induces ir and ad, encourages foraging and produces unwanted metabolites including uric acid and sorbitol...and fructose is also produced from glucose and glycogen
