    After having pushed only using my toes for years I started to wonder if I should push with my entire foot, as I always get a sore foot after a while (as you mentioned). So I decided to search on youtube to see how other people were pushing, and then I found this video! I now started to push this way and I can notice I almost get no sore feet anymore! It definitely takes some time to get used to however, after such a long time of toe-pushing.... Now I just need to train myself to ride switch aswell!

      @@ARTVENTUREFILMS Yeah, in running, you want to hit the ball of your foot and then let the heal touch a split second after and then leave the ground off of your toes again. It feels a little bit unnatural if you're used to heel striking but it absorbs way more impact and doesn't send the shock up your leg nearly as much.

    • @FumblsTheSniper
      @FumblsTheSniper 4 роки тому +2

      I’ve always pushed heel-toe on longboards as it’s almost always been downhill riding or short trips. Decided to commute on my downhill deck this summer and have really messed up my right leg.
      Having a flexy and lower to the ground board is probably just as important as how you push. That 2-inch reach down and all the impact being absorbed by my legs is definitely unnatural in every way conceivable.
      Rested up my leg and going to start using an old flexy drop down deck for a bit to see if it helps. Also going to really focus on riding switch.

    Ackchewally, the natural way for the human body to run is to land across the foot, toes-to-heel, then lift off again heel first. People only land heel first while running because most modern running shoes are designed to encourage this. It's a recent development and it disrupts what comes naturally to the human body-a body which has evolved to excel at few other things quite like running upright.

    If you are using your whole foot from heel to toe to push, you are doing something very wrong. Heel striking when running is bad enough, but when applied to LDP it is actually worse. Because you will be traveling faster than the average runner when you're skating, the position you need to be in for you to strike heel to toe will actually create more problems, be super inneficient and slow you down in the long run[skate;)]. The body's natural movement for something like this is to toe strike, that will give you the most power, leverage, efficiency and energy over time.

    • @ARTVENTUREFILMS

    I used to teach people this to prevent overuse injuries. I wouldn't say it's the best. But it requires a lot less work training the lower leg through methods that Don't involve a skateboard.
    Also it's wrong to relate pushing to how humans run. When skating your leg doesn't land the same way, and you don't have your weight bearing down on the leg like you do when running. You can compare it somewhat to how large cats run, but even then, you can use some of the human running hacks for more free energy return than cats. But this causes more wear and tear.

    • @ARTVENTUREFILMS
      @ARTVENTUREFILMS  3 роки тому +1

      I knew that my comparison to how humans run is probably not the best but that's just how i justified it for myself.

    • @PaulKentSkates
      @PaulKentSkates 3 роки тому +1

      @ARTVENTURE FILMS it's not that it's bad, and I know you've been getting some slack from other people, but I disagree with most of them too. It's fairly nuanced and diserves to be viewed as its own type of movement. If you ever do more distance skateboard content and want to take a deeper dive into it let me known. I'm a previous world championship in distance skateboard racing and I have travelled through Canada, the Andes and around Morocco with a skateboard and a pack.

    I have another problem I'm wondering if you can help me with. As my foot comes down to push, the cuff of my jeans is rubbing on the griptape. I've sanded through two pairs of jeans' stitching in just 15 miles or so. I don't think it's an issue of needing to change my stance because I've been skating my whole life and that's just where my hips are. I've noticed the grip tape on my Gaia is way way more abrasive than normal grip tape, I'm not sure if that's normal for a longboard. At this point I'm just thinking about not wearing long pants, but then I have to give up going out on days where it's only 35-45°F.

      I would suggest to practice balancing on the weak foot like I mentioned in my other video called: HOW TO TRAIN FOR YOUR #longboardtrip
      Practice balancing and doing the switch standing still or just going very slow.
      That might help to prevent falling :)

    • @ARTVENTUREFILMS

      Yeah i did. It's not too much fun. Your get all the spray water from the wheels on your leg and feet. If you're using pants against the rain then all the water just runs down in your shoes, so you should have something for them as well. Mostly i just got really wet and dried my shoes after.
      Don't do any crazy turns and keep your movements controlled. And lastly have fun and keep going so you stay warm 😃

      Do you mean that you kick the wheel, when doing another push? I had that too with a new board, because the trucks were wider than my previous ones. Start slow, watch your feet and make sure to push where you can't hit a wheel. Do one push, ride a little and when your slowed down again go for another. Maybe that can help.
