  • Come with me as we rockhound for agates, brecciated and ootilitic jaspers, unakite, slag, and so much more! I worked my way along the north shores of Minnesota looking for some beautiful rocks and minerals. I ended up learning about a special type of “rock” and found a few samples along the way! It was a really fun adventure and it always amazing me the diversity of rocks and minerals that you find as you travel further north. It is definitely an adventure that I can’t wait to do again soon!

    Great finds. Some really cool and different ones! Some super big ones too. I love all the mica schist. The jasper was such vibrant reds. And i think most of those will look good when tumbled! Thanks for sharing!

    It's always nice to go go rockhounding with you. Some interesting little finds today that might turn out to be gems once tumbled. Thanks for sharing your adventure to the lake.

    Schist is about a 4.5 and not a good candidate for the tumbler. Nice finds!

    You don't have very many days left to do that, you should get 10 or so ice cream pale full before winter sets in.

    How do you tell unakite from epidote? It looks the same to me.

    • @AgateAriel
      @AgateAriel  Рік тому

      Great question! Unakite is actually a mix of green epidote, pink orthoclase feldspar, and Quartz. Green epidote would specifically be only green while unakite is pink, green, and whiteish 😊

    What is schist?

    • @AgateAriel
      @AgateAriel  Рік тому +1

      It’s a metamorphic rock that’s oriented into thin sheets making them shine!
