Rockhounding at a Construction Site?!

- Today we go for a trip rockhounding at a construction site! I have never been rockhounding at a construction site and it was a fun adventure! If this is something that you would like to do, please make sure that you are allowed to be there! Typically there are no trespassing signs when constructing new buildings however, road work construction is usually free game! Of course make sure you are being safe and staying away from any construction equipment.
In this video we found some really unique rocks and a giant schist, feldspar, milky quartz conglomerate! It was pretty heavy and hard to lug back home but I think it was worth it! We also found some agates, red ootilitic jasper, conglomerates, and lots of schist!

Cut the Big rock
There were a couple beautiful finds here. But the cake most definitely goes to the giant one that needed a little digging!
Right that one was so cool!
I love all your finds.
Wouldn’t you have to get permission to remove any stones etc?
Hmm I guess I’m actually not sure! Just what I learned from other rockhounds! I might have to look into that! I would assume it’s fine because it is just like picking a rock up off the ground but I’m not sure!
Great idea !
Thanks!
Nice finds!!
if I were you I'd try a magnet on that big one.
Hi Ariel. I have a question. I have a rock that looks plain when not wet but when it is wetted it is a bright/blood red color and a bright yellow on it but when it goes in water it bleeds. What kind of rock is it. Please and thank you 🙏🙏🙏
Egg it
There's always that sweet spot between initial clearing and the moving in of materials where you can look for fossils and such.
Do you recommended tumbling green opal or blue calcite?
I’m not sure actually! I haven’t tumbled either before!
I always get excited for rain for this very reason.
Right! They look so great after a good rain!
Man how'd I miss this one. Heck yeah construction sites!!! Anywhere there's been fresh digging is ALWAYS best place to rockhound.
Right! It was super fun!
🤣🤣 UA-cam subtitles say you said egg hunting
Haha that wouldn’t be nearly as fun!

I'm sus the gigantic one was an opal :))
Not so sure, though
That would be awesome!!
Folks ask me all the time why I hang my head when I walk. ‘Cause I’m looking for rocks silly !
Got that right
Haha definitely!! I do the same! 🤣
@@AgateAriel I went agate hunting Sunday morning in Fargo, just some rock piles and found 3 praire agates, 1 red agate, and 1 lake superior agate as well as some jasper. Life is good.
Rockhounding after a nice rain is the best! That schisty boulder you brought back looks like it has some good stuff inside, would be cool to cut it!
Yes!! I really need to get a cab saw!
Great video.
That huge rock is gorgeous.
Right! It was such a great find!
Can't wait to see that gold one tumbled
I actually won’t be tumbling that one since it is too soft a rock unfortunately! ☹️
@@AgateAriel ya I posted comment before the end .
I'm just getting back into rock hunting and watching videos on where ppl find there rocks.
Maybe take a power washer to that Big One ? That would be fun to record too :)
Great idea! 😊
Is that your hubbys hand?
It’s actually my Mom! Good guess though!
@@AgateAriel oh goodness! I’m so sorry! 🤭
No worries!
Thanks! Would like to see the large rock slabbed to see whats in side.
Oh that would be awesome!
I thought I was the only one that did that. Nice to know I'm not alone lol
Haha absolutely!!
Another fun trip! I look for rocks every where. Keep the fun coming! Be happy, safe and stay healthy 😷⚒
Thanks sand maker! 😊
The big rock is really interesting and cool!
Right! So unique!!
The stone the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone, and it is marvelous in our eyes. Ps. 118:22 😇
Love it-fits perfectly!
Gold strike!!!🤠
Nice finds, out here in the southwest, spring after melt and after monsoon season road cuts and arroyo's are the best times.
Oh that’s awesome!
have you hounded any farm fields?
I haven’t-but I am hoping to soon especially since the crops are now out!
Cool rocks! All that mica schist and your big rock is super cool! That was an awesome find! I hope you didnt have to carry that one too far! But super cool for a construction site find!
Haha it wasn’t too far luckily! Totally worth it though! 🙌
@@AgateAriel i agree! Beautiful rock!
Research this for a possibility: Phyllite
I found a bunch of it here in Ct at the beach.
Oh wow that does seem really similar! Thank you for your insight!!
Such a good idea.
Thank you!
Definitely a cool idea, I should have taken advantage of the construction site around me when they were building a whole neighborhood. Some awesome finds today great idea and video. Thanks Ariel!
Oh that would have been awesome! Yes it’s so cool what construction sites can unearth!
@@AgateAriel yeah, and you get a chance to see the geology there too, depending on how deep they dig!
The huge rock looks pretty interesting. Not bad finds for a construction site. I guess you just never know what you might find. It was fun hanging out with you today.
Right! It is cool what the big machines can unearth! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! 😊
Cutting the big rock in half might reveal some colorful surprises!🌈
I might have to try that-if I can find something to cut it!
@@AgateAriel yo what up buy a 7 inch angel grinder and get diamond blade for about 40 that's how I cut all my stuff angle grinder ballerina 👀✨🤯
