Finally added a Mauser to my collection this last weekend, a good+ shape M48 BO matching for only $350. Not a steal, but a good local price IMO and glad to finally have a Mauser without paying close to a grand! Thanks for all the great vids Mike, glad your surgery went well, keep healing and be safe!
I was in Belgrade earlier this year but did not have time for a day trip to Kragujevac. Do you know if the factory does tours? Someone told me there is a museum on site.
Yugoslavian mausers are awesome. I have a 24/52c and I love it, a very nice shooter. Actually put a NTD scope mount on it w/ a scope a killed a big buck a year ago. I also got my dad a yugo m48 for Xmas. He loves it! It's in amazing condition. He can't wait to shoot it. Awesome vid!
I've got a k98 that I originally thought was a m48 because the stock had been reworked. I ended up doing some research on it and I found some small german markings.
@Mike B I discovered something interesting about my K98 Yugo. Had id disassembled last night and noticed the serial number under the barrel which was 622 and there we some numbers that matched on the receiver and barrel. So it turns out I have a Pre war KAR98K with a original barreled receiver that has a pristine bore . The bolt body has the serial number 732 under the bolt handle and 619 on the floor plate.
I bought a yugo m24/52c 2-3 years ago from a local sporting goods store in mint condition with all matching numbers for around 550 bucks. Thing is a beauty.
To Mauser collector's, Yugo Mauser rifles are the bottom of the barrel in collectability and that is bull shit. The Russians butchered their captured Mausers. Parts, screws and misaligned parts are very common on Russian Mausers. The Yugoslav Mausers are much better put together. All parts are installed, minus the front site hood as it gets lost slot of times, and many captured examples where rebarrelled prior to service. I have a Yugo Capture and the rifle shoots like a laser in accuracy. The barrel and bore are shiny and bright. If you can even find any Yugo Mauser anymore I suggest people grab it.
I have been fixing up my buddies. I have to heat the front sight and turn it to the left to get it lined up with the back sight. Being Croatian 🇭🇷 I have a love for my people’s gun and Zastava has been some of my favorite. I know there’s better out there however it’s old family history 😌
Great information Mike B really enjoy it, I bought my Yugo M48 about 10 years paid 300.00 for it but it came with a beautiful stock, matching serial numbers. Boy it’s a shooter, love’s the 198 Gr loads.
After adding more to my collection I keep seeing how much I like the Yugo stuff. Just picked up a 24/47 and a CZ-24, neither at too terrible of a price for now
Thoughts on a very clean Sporterized Serb M1924 and value these days? Numbers match, drilled and tapped for scope and is wearing a Hensoldt-Wetzlar Dialtan 4x German Scope.
Yeah I have a Kar98k which apparently has been shifted into a Yugo design patterns. It has the stamp Soviet crest, but as well everything about it speaks Kar98.
For some reason and I am not sure why, I have seen this twice, once with my m48 once with a friends m48 where when operating the bolt, the bolt stop/release screw head breaks off clean. The rifle can still be operated, however you cant get the rest of that screw out without removing the stock. As I said I'm not sure as to why this happened and maybe those were just a wild coincidence. But one thing I learned is that the german k98 bolt stop/release screw will work on the yugo m48 no problem. I hope this maybe will help another person if they run into this issue.
Got a yugo k98 a couple years ago. Great rifle and that yugo crest is really nice. Still some eagle stamping like under the bolt handle and iron sights. Funny thing is the seller was listing it as chambered in 7.62x54r(obviously it’s not) and had no idea where it was from. Know your stuff lol.
@@michaelbenjmitchell1 yup I called and asked him about it but kept that info to myself. When I saw the listing and the crest I instantly knew what it was.
Love this video! Keep coming back to it to recommend to friends. Bit I just picked up an original MODEL 1924 yugo mauser. It's in great condition, super pleased with it. Im slowly collecting the Yugo mausers and I'd get a 24/47 but it's basically my gun with new parts so meh🤷♂️ idk maybe another day.
I did have a question regarding the 1924/47 and the M48. I know the M24/47 has the so called “ring of steel” that the Serbians had done as early as 1899 on their 7mm mausers, does the m48 have the same modification
My friend just traded a Mossberg 500 and a Mossberg 22 plinkster for a beautiful yugo Mod 98 with all matching parts and a bayonet, the guy didnt know what he had he just "kinda guessed" it was from WW2.
Wait what? I have a mod 98 too that I picked up for about 600 and never really looked into the history. I was just always under the impression that it was a Yugoslavian model.
I just bought an M48A and I'm waiting for its delivery to my gun shop. While, yeah, milsurp collecting has become more niche than it was a few years ago, personally I think a Yugo Mauser aint a bad place to start. I snagged the aforementioned M48A for a little under $600. By way of comparison, back in '06 I picked up an 1895 Chilean Mauser for $300. Everything in my collection has averaged under $600 b/c I'm not the type that needs a pristine Kar 98 or Mosin sniper. As with everything: to each his own, right?
First centerfire rifle I ever bought was a Yugo M47/47. I didn't care for the straight bolt handle so i bought an M48 bolt body from Numrich, stole the cocking knob assembly and extractor from the 24/47 bolt, popped both on and it worked perfectly. Good headapacing, smooth action, and a decent a bolt handle that is much more comfortable to me. That being said, I still have the original bolt just so if or when I go to sell it, it can be in all original condition.
Good rifles...been collecting and shooting bolt actions for 50 years..got 6 k98k's and 9 other mausers, from m48 to spanish fr8 and m43's. Shoot the yugoslavian mausers the most. Powerful and reliable, very robust, along with the 2 m24/47 mausers I have.
I have a yugo scrubbed k98 but the recoil lug is setting back so i got a surplus yugo k98 stock and it is shorter. Did they cut some down to fit there bayonet or something?
the first rifle you showed looks awfully like a czech VZ -24. Thought since both are based off mauser I guess it isn't that much of a surprise. Either way always fun seeing the variety available.
I have a checksolovian 8mm mauser. It is a good target and hunting rifle.I have killed deer with it ,I realized for it.It is a 1955 issue.I bought it in 1997,for 90.00 dollars. David Back from Menifee county Kentucky.
On M48, bolt is shorter a bit compared to Kar 98k and its action is also shorter, obviously. Also, overall rifle length is shorter slightly compared to the "original". Shortest way to tell the difference between variants of M48? If it only says M48, that is oldest, but most high quality and "luxury" model. Later models (M48A and B) only had modifications in the sense of making it cheaper to produce. They work the same, though, but the overall look and feel are... Meh... Also, as you stated: very accurate!
Bought mine over a year ago for a steal came with an extra part, iron sight hood, sling, stripper clips, and 100 rounds of ammo and I payed $350 including transfer fee
Whatever. The market is now a collectible market, and if you're going to be that rash and pay that much without doing research, that's on you, and my M48 just became more valuable, so thanks.
