Just replaced the plugs on my 2013 E350, thanks so much for the excellent information. Some things I learned that might be helpful to others, I went ahead and removed the front passenger seat. Just 4 bolts and it really opened up the area. I'm big, and old, so the room really helped. That said, I have an air compressor and impact so made the job easy. Speaking of air, if you don't have a compressor on hand, I wouldn't do this job, really need it to blow the dirt out of spark plug area. Lot of debris was flying out. Blow out before removing coils, after removing coil, and after removing spark plug, Just like Maku says! I did the 2 front cylinders from the front, and the other 3 from the back. Worked for me. Also, my Snap On 5/8 plug socket really holds the plugs tightly, what i learned if you use a tight socket to install the plug, the socket will stay on the plug when you pull up on the extension, I wasted a lot of time trying to fish it out, so, I used a regular 5/8" deep socket to install the plug that easily comes off the spark plug. My van has 99K miles on it and plugs were really poor shape. Thanks again Maku for the great videos.
Really appreciate all of the Ford vehicle support that you provide. Great to see someone who is knowledgeable in their field, who actually cares about the work that they preform, and who is willing to share their knowledge with others.
+Thevinylking69 Thanks!
Ppl should study this video/guy before making their own video. Super informative and right to the point. Clear as day 🤘 Ty
I'm paraplegic and just purchased a E350 2001 2v. You are my NEW best friend, thanks for making what appears to be a headache a simply to follow step process.
+Steve Hustler Baird (Hustler) No problem.
HI Brian, I wanted to thank you so very much for making this video. It gives us a place to start and a good idea of how to do this. I also watched your other specific video on changing plugs on the 5.4 liter 2 Valve. I wanted to add the other comments to help others out.
I just changed all my plugs yesterday, major pain in the back but saved me $500+ doing it myself. One of the things you will need is to get a good stool or drywaller's 2 step stool to stand on while working from the front. The van in your video is a 2007 or older model. Mine (2008) has a 4" tall full width plastic shroud that covers the front rad mounts that needs to be removed as well or it is digging into your torso. I suggest that you buy LOTS of different length 3/8" drive WOBBLE extensions; 2, 3 ,4, 6, 8". They are so much better than straight cut extensions. I had a number of them and they work far better than a single universal joint. I also used a flex head ratchet. I started on the driver's side, looked easier, but the extensions came off the spark plug socket, so I had to use a short locking extension to retrieve the SP socket. The other 6 plugs; just wiggle back and forth to get SP socket out of hole, so it is still attached to your extension.
I didn't have to remove any of the fuel injector plugs though. Also had to remove the passenger side valve cover oil vent pipe, also had to remove the engine oil filler tube from passenger side front as well. Also had to remove the fuel pressure rail wire harness and some other harness plug that goes into sensor straight into manifold on passenger side. Passenger side: 2 rear ones weren't bad, but the second from the front on the pass side was absolute worst! Very difficult to reach in to get 7mm bolt out of coil. Be patient. Remove front coil first. Also used compressor air to blow around coils and after removing coil, blow dust out of hole. Good tip! But not after removing plug. Nickel anti-seize allows you to thread them all in by hand until snug. Torqued to about 22-23 ft-lbs. ALSO double check the gapping on your plugs, even the FORD plugs I bought. 4 were okay, 4 had to be slightly tweaked.
You say its not hard, but that's because you make things look easy. Thank you again so much for all of the work that you did, it is much appreciated!
+JRobert111111 It was my pleasure!
Very helpful video, straight to the point and didn’t wast time over explaining or going off on rabbit trails. Much appreciated!
Great Video, THANKS! Helped me a LOT. Wow that's a knuckle-buster of a job, standing on a box up to your shoulders, the plugs are in the most awkward positions. Have plenty of different lengths and swivels extension ratchets to help find an angle to get on the nuts and plugs. Did the front first, the plugs are a mess, maybe original. That cleared all the codes, it's running great. Next we'll do the back when we can face it.
I always change the coil pack after changing the spark plugs, it may be a bit extreme but I'll rather be safe than sorry👌🏽. Great video by the way
I just bought a 2006 e350 super duty van a few days ago. I really like it. I normally put plug in any car I buy right off the go so I know the exact life on them. I am a little apprehensive because what I heard about 5.4ltrs around this age range. I also just had surgery and won't be able to use my right hand for a few months.
Thanks so much for the video. Although I'm mechanically inclined, watching this video helped anticipate some potential issues. Keep up the pretty work!👍🏼
bought it today seems to be working excellently. thank Jesus and thank you sir!!!
That rear passenger side plug is a PITA to get to in the old 2V 4.6L F150s. I spent about 45 minutes trying to get the spark plug wire boot off the plug. A hundred swear words and a sore back later, I final won. Dielectric grease over the boot and anti-seize on the threads of the plug make all the difference in the world.
Going for #4 coil really appreciate removing the doghouse tip thanks a million sir!!!
I have 99' E150 4.6L (I bought it new) with 256k miles on it. still runs decent. throws P401 codes now and then.
I have learned its important to use motorcraft spark plugs. I run high octane gas now. I have had rear-end problems, heater cores. i'm starting to pre-emptively replace engine accessories. A/C unit (i'm in Fla.) always worked, Have org: starter, timing chain, alternator, radiator, water pump, fuel injectors. Have replaced most EVAP components.
Chg the plugs out is a knuckle buster for me. I use spark plug boot puller and lots of socket extension and magnet to extract plugs. I usually scratch the heck out of my hands. I hate it.
Yes definitely , I replied the plugs on my 08 F150 4.6 pickup, correct tools and also patience is key , did one side one weekend , then the other side the following weekend , It sits between time sooo glad that's done 😊😊😊😊
Great video, helped me get my plugs and coils changed and she's running smooth. Cheers mate!
What year E250 is that you're working on? When I pull the dog house out of the way, I see a lot more stuff in the way than is shown in your video. What I'm not sure about is if that's because mine is a different year than what you have there (mine is a 2001), or if what I'm looking at are extra lines because ours is a used dog grooming van that my wife picked up recently.
THANKS! Excellent video and parts information! I just replaced plugs and coils on my 2000 Ford E350 QUIGLEY 4x4 5.4 ! You Rock! 🤘👨🔧
Hi Brian, Good Vid, you forgot to show us the "Tip(s)" and "Trick" to removing plug to the coil. there must be a keeper of sorts??
Hey thanks Man, for making it so simple to change Spark plugs on a 99 E-150 which I been thinking about doing for quite a while, so now I guess I will go ahead and change them. Thanks again.
Took all day...in e350 van. Did it outside in NYC January...Plugs came out NP thank god. Van is bullet proof but burns a lot of fuel.שלום
Great vid. Love that you just get right to it and skip the chitty chat crap.
please make a video if you can of how to replace the exhaust manifold in van e-150
I was told the best way to do these plugs is to let the next shift do it. Lol
+Shevaron lol

👌spot on bro, i promise 😂😂
i have an issue with that, im the only one with engine performance and tune up cert... anyways do these plugs like to break like the 5.4 3 valve ones?
@@iplaybadgames317I know this is a super old comment, but I thought I'd reply just to help anyone who may have the same question.
These earlier engines are not subject to the break apart sparkplug of the later 2 part sparkplug design. However, they used a shallow thread for the plugs and they are notorious for blowing the plugs and ripping out the thread.
Ford didn't get the heads for the Modular Engines right until after 2007. They're decent and normally reliable engines, but when they have problems, they're usually fairly bad problems.
I'm surprised no one mentions removing the seats before working on these vans. It only takes couple of minutes to remove them, but it makes working on vans much easier to do
Try doing a v10 on a e550 paramedic unit.the doghouse cover has aftermarket lighting and siren controls console bolted to it .have to remove front seats to remove center console...great video..
Thank you very much! I am amazed that such a big vehicle is so hard to reach!
Spot on with the tutorial. Having a 6 and 3 inch extension is a must! Taking that housing off inside is a must as well.
Thank you again!
It's like working inside a mailbox. Totally confined space.
I had number two plug blow out, I found it was worth unattaching the trans dipstick tube because the bracket is directly over the work area.
Great video. Now I know how my mechanic does it.
Great video. I was kinda nervous about doing it. This video really helped and I’m going for it. Keep making videos for people like me! Your great at it.
When are you going to do A big 3 or a 4 . Positive or negative votedge to the big ford.
Thanks brother! They were trying to charge me upwards of $200 to fix my misfiring cylinders.
Thanks for doing what you do, not to many techs like you out there anymore, or at least they are hard to find!
Couldn't talk you into moving to Canada eh! Taking my 15 F150 Lariat in for its first visit to the dealership for warranty work, scares the heck out of me leaving it in there hands for even minor repairs!
+G Watson Oh geez they can't be that bad up there can they?
+FordTechMakuloco Well let's just say I have a horror story involving 86 (and that's no typo) spark plugs that in itself would be validation! Don't get me started Brian, LOL.
NAPA 60 bucks for sleeve kit. EXCELLENT QUALITY.👈
That would be an interesting video if you have tips on how to remove the passenger valve cover as an engine in car repair on these econolines
Do you not work on the 4.2 ? A lot of your info really helps me out thanks.
I have Fuel Tank rail pressure Econoline Van, 2004, e-150, 4.6, V8, with the wires cut, and I don’t know how wire colors are connected. I checked there are 2 positives wires and one ground wire but don’t know where or how they are connected. I do really appreciate your help.
Nice vid! Can you post one on how to remove the fuel rail to replace injectors on a van like that? I have an E 250 and am unsure of how much has to be removed. All the videos on youtube that show it are on pickup trucks and not vans.
Great video. #6 was misfiring and turning the check engine light on. I replaced with Bosch (wish i saw your video sooner) light turned off but running badly, feels like misfiring.. ordered motorcraft plugs (sp 459) and will try those. Is that the type of thing a bosch plug has done in the oast for you? Thanks
Do I need a longer extended ratchet to get to the plugs in my E-150 2005 4.6L?
Could you do a video showing how to replace the exaust manifold on a 4.6 l (2007 e-150) right side. i know its a tough job and dont know how to begin. would really appreciate. thx
I'd like to know if you think it's that easy on the 6.8s.....? Clearance between the boddy and head is way tighter, particularly for the Insert job! Grrrr
Hi. Your videos are the best. I just bought a used 2009 f150 platinum. It whistles when I have the heat or AC on. When I turn it on recirculating it goes away. Please help.
+treelishan If all vents are set to full open I would lower the glove box and inspect the recirc door for debri.
thank you sir. all of these parts houses r telling me all different types. .
Can you show me a coolant change fluss and all needed to make sure it's good thanks Brother
I'm in a tough spot for bit money tight for at least another month ...just gonna do the #6 misfiring plug and go from there
I’m stuck between a Chevy van and an e250. Trying to see which one is more reliable. So Far they ranked the Chevy higher.
How to know if you need a new manifold or just replace the seals and gaskets on a 2001 Ford E250 5.4 L V8 and how do you know if it's a 2v or 3v what do I look for
In which state do you live, I would love to have as a mechanic
These are actually easier than what people make it out to be.
what is the diagram order for spark plugs( 2005 e450 ) thank you.
Do you treat the natural gas version of the e250 the same as normal gas for spark plug change?
What about glow plugs on the 6.0
The fuel rail seems to be right in the way. Cant get the back right spark plugs out with ratchet and extension. Really don't want to take that off
They wanted $600 to change plugs/coil packs on my 98 E350 V10 Super booty, so I did it myself. Now I know why the $600. Took two days of cussing, scratched and busted knuckles, more cussing. All touchy feely. Not one plug was visable. Now, three years later, the plug blew out second one back passenger side yesterday. Great times ahead. Looking for any tips/tricks to ease my burden. Like hiring some fool who doesn’t know better. Lmao
Did you ever drill and tap your van for spark plug liners? If so, how did you get enough leverage to do it?
I just purchased a 2002 E-250 with 43,000 miles but I don't think the plugs have ever been changed. I am new to any Ford vehicles. I am getting the sense that there must have been a problem with the Spark Plugs with these years. Any Advice?
Any tips for cylinder 2 on passenger bank? E350...
my mom has this type of van a 2000 f150 Econoline and she just had the spark plugs replaced by a shop that well is a shit shop and we had it checked and the #4 is misfiring. can you direct me to the #4 so i can replace it. i been burning my brain out looking at a diagram is it driverside is it passenger im not a mechanic but ithe mechanics where we live dont know weather to scratch tgere watch or wind their ass so if you could point out #4 for me would help a lot😎
I need to change my valve cover gaskets, and my egr valve and sensor, is there enough space to do that from the doghouse? Or am i gonna have to take it to a shop where they can lift the body off?
On a 2001 E250 5.4L 2v, is it possible to pull the oil pan out with the engine still in the vehicle? I would love to get your advice.
Thank you for this video, it’s been helpful planning it out!
no . you have to lift the motor up and remove the Tans mount.
I have the same van I'm getting a po442 code Do you happen to know where the canister vent valve solenoid is located
How about the Plugs in a motorhome. Class C, Ford Econoline, 460 ??
I have a question for you my name is Luis Rio 1998 Ford Club Wagon I put spark plugs in it by watching your video but I have one cylinder chords the gas pedal second from the back that I think can I unplug the fuel injectors that's not getting any fuel and run on 9th eston's instead question
Subject: 2005 Ford E-150 plug change. 90,000 mile plug maintenance. I was told by a dealer that the old plugs can be stuck (spalled) but that they have a special tool to get them out, but it takes hours and hundreds of dollars. Another repair shop said leave them alone. I'm suspicious.
I have a 2000 E250 and I am having difficulty even getting my hand in between the top of the motor and the sheet metal above it.
Your van seems to have a smaller motor and more room to work. True?
It would have been really nice if this video was shown how to actually get to the spark plugs and pull the coil packs off which it does not. There's still a silver tube that runs along the top of each coil pack keeping them trapped.
+Mr. Mister once the coil packs are unbolted they pull right out no reason to pull the fuel rail. I have a more detailed video on this engine in the normal engine compartments
@@FordTechMakuloco the fuel rail is directly over it, seems like the plug access wouldn't be there.
I'm convinced on the 4.6 you cannot easily do it without pulling the fuel rail. the fuel rail is 4 bolts and you yank it off. there is not one SINGLE video that shows removing the plugs in a 4.6 2v van. not one. So I am going to pull the rail.
@@FordTechMakulocoIt's a great detailed video , I must add 😊
Do you have a video on hard starting e-250 when warmed up?
Great channel , enjoy all your videos. Any thoughts on an 08 E -250 78k miles with steering that creaks and can feel through the steering wheel ?
Plastic ball joints is the best I can come up with. Thanks
Oh yeah big time we were changing these at 30k miles on some of these very common on the newer body style e vans
+FordTechMakuloco. Ttx terrain tough by mevotech ok? Moods aren't what they used to be.
hi how are you my ? is i have an 1991 ford econoline f350 wats the best way to get to my egr valvle any help would be great ty
Very Helpful. Thanks from Germany.
Dude you are incredible.
If you got a 4.6l you got even more hassle.Fuel line connectors driver side are really annoying. The worst case you can imagine is an LPG system attached to the intake all around the place...A real nightmare and you end up doing number five and built the whole trash together if you got no free weekend for the job :D By the way the Haynes suggest AWSF32P spark plugs the LPG guys installed NGK R BPR6EF plugs and i drove the van 55k miles with em.
+JoeyAirborne Yeah this one was a little bit more crowded with CNG
I just got done doing mine and now I have lost my blower door control. I know it's vacuum hose controlled, but can't see what I've done. Any suggestions? Thanks.
My e250 2006 Econoline van, revs high and no acceleration, and and hesitates and then it kicks back in, but I'm at the point where it's not even kicking back in now, hitting the gas and nothing and it seems like the RPMs are going but there's no gas getting to it please help please help and the mechanics three times now...
I was wondering I have a 1998 e150 4.6 l Triton are there VCT solenoids in my motor I'm having a tough time seeing them
I've got a 98 navigator with 330,000 miles... Great truck! 5.4 2V... my issue is random misfires...I pulled all the coils, and plugs, and cylinder 1 was full of anti freeze. Now, is this a blown head gasket, or maybe an upper intake gasket problem? (I would've never known about it till i took it in for inspection) truck runs smooth, no rough idle, no visible leaks, oils clean ect... I'm a DIYer, so any suggestions would help!
Have you ever had a spark plug fly out of its hole in those 330,000?
How much does this job cost at a shop?
Hi I have a question i had a 2007 ford E350 I need to change the spark plug and the motor that ford have it 5.4 motor and people said that that can braking it went put it off it that true how i can doing it. Thanks
hi i have a question i have a 1998 ford econoline wagon that has a crank but no start issue. the car sometimes starts up fine and is drivable but as soon as you shut if off it just cranks but no start. it just had a fuel pump and spark plugs done. have you ever had an issue like that
I have the problem on my 2006 E250, I think it was related to a loose connection to the cylinder head temperature sensor which made the computer thinks the engine was cold all the time and it would feed it rich mixture when starting up
Does 04-08 e350 have spark plugs or phasers problems?
Are these the 2-piece plugs that break off and/or blow out of the cylinder head?
These can blow out on the earlier models if they are not torqued correctly but they do not break in half.
Do you recommend the Motorcraft SP 479 spark plugs for the 2005 e350 Super Duty 5.4L 2 Valve??
I have a 1997 e350 with the 5.4.It is misfiring under load and i suspect the spark plugs. Please tell me i dont have those horrible three piece plugs.
Hi. I have 4.6 ford expedition, spark plugs in my car are Motorcraft AWSF 32p. I cant found it to buy. Can you give a tips..
you're so good and helpful.
+Angelina Shaddix Thanks!
Omg so much work 😳😳😳
Where am I able to locate the fuel filter on 1997 E150 5.4? My father put seafoam in the gas and it now has a slight rough idea, with a bit of a delay when pushing the gas pedal.
+JPorkins88 It should be on the drivers side frame rail.
this is great! not as hard as I thought! Thank you.
I know this has nothing to do with this video but I have 07 f150 fx4 5.4 gas . what kind of coolant does it take . thank you
+Gary Clark That year take Gold coolant Here- www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NU3T3W/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000NU3T3W&linkCode=as2&tag=fordt-20&linkId=BV772IPYLMMD7WHW
what about the fuel rail? Can I work around it or does it have to come off? It's on top of the plugs. I can't find aan aanswer so I'm pulling the fuel rail anyway.
NO! Fuel rail stays
Same here. Did you run into problems after you pulled the rail? Mine is a 2011 5.4 e350
You make video to inform viewers that you have another video how replace Ignition Coil and spark Plug in ford e. ?
No I don't have another video on E vans just the 2v engines in general lots of tips and tricks. This is more of a how to access video since the E vans are unique.
Would you consider this an amateur repair? How long should this take?
Melisa Szmurlo hi baby
I have an 03 expedition that had a faulty IAC code. after replacing the IAC the idle got all thrown off. if I crank on a cold start it revs about 1800 rpm and drops to a 1000 and holds for a while until 20 -30 secs dropping to 800. sometimes when I come to a stop light the idle starts fluctuating but eventually settles. I got a 2nd IAC but had the same results.
I looked for a vacuum leak but didn't find any plus didn't think that was it because it was all good before changing the IAC. please help in anyway you can
+Jo Prat First I would make sure you use a motorcraft iac- www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C5BM2I/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000C5BM2I&linkCode=as2&tag=fordt-20&linkId=JMTMQYSQXAKOMTZL second perform the pcm reset as per these instructions- ua-cam.com/video/hZAsoqmqhdM/v-deo.html

My e150 4.6 lost a huge amount of power, my engine isnt shaking nor do i think its misfiring. Throttle response is at its worst what do u think is wrong
ricflores50 mite be dirty throttle body, take air intake tube off and spray some throttle body clearer in there but it's important to follow the directions...
Doesn't one have to remove the fuel rails?
Nope never.
Yeah but don't you have to pull the fuel rails off Doug? I mean they're clearly in the way right?
Great information Brian.
The passenger side is the easy side . The driver side has the feul rail in the way
