I have sever carpal tunnel in my left hand and was still able to reach in and get all 8 coils and plugs changed without pulling the fuel injection manifold. Even with this major unnecessary work, really well done video. I got the 6" magnetic socket. There were 2 that the 10" might have been difficult to use but 3" and 6" added extensions got all of them. NOTE TO ALL! You absolutely do need compressed air blower for this job. I cleared a Ton of crap with it. Blow right before pulling coils. After pulling coils and again after loosening plugs but before pulling them all the way out. Most of mine yielded a lot of particles after loosening the plugs. Do not put anything on plug threads. Dry threads, and 14lb/ft is not very tight so be careful you don't overtighten them or the next change will be a royal pita
Yes everybody is correct.u do not have to remove the fuel rail to replace the spark plugs and coils I did the job on my e350 van and I did not remove the fuel rail its totally unnecessary.it would make the job easier but way way to unnecessary
I changed coil #5. It was somewhat easy. No removal of fuel rail. Then coil # 7 crapped out . THIS WAS A BIG PAIN! Next time I'm taking it to the shop!!!!!!! BTW This all happened during the course of a Chicago Winter on my open lot for parking. Hats off to you guys on a GREAT video. Wish I saw it before jumping into this with just a little coaching from parts shop. The parts shop guy has the same van so he explained a lot.
Thank you for talking about the pitfalls and stupid things that ford did (such as connectors that you have to push in and pull out to pull out, or that the fuel rail has to come off). It saves me time!
Thanks for confirming this was going to be as much of a pain as I expected. I have confidently decided that the auction e250 I bought that shows a minor misfire under load will be sold that way 😂
Dude, I was able to change all spark plugs without removing the fuel rail, the hardest thing is getting to 2 of the coil bolts otherwise all the coils have enough room too pop up and twist out and enough room to put the new one in, it's just a manner of having the correct extension which I had to learn lmao
Well it's normally the 5.4L 2valve so the coil boots are at an angle a little bit that's what makes it easy to pull them and twist them around the fuel rail
I have 165,000 miles on my '07 5.4L 2V, which is running great right now. Are there typical miles the spark plugs, coils and fuel injectors go bad at? Thinking of doing it all in one fell swoop, but definitely don't want to swap out OEM parts that may still go way longer for non-OEM that may make this procedure a 3-5 year event.
I don't know man but I have the same van and when I replaced spark plugs and coils I did not remove the fuel rail the job can still get done without removing it
I made my life easier by just working a little extra in my expedited delivery business and earning the money to take my '12 E350 Super Van Basic, 5.4L Flex Fuel, (I'm the original owner) down to the shop I use near my house, and let them do the work. He allows me to buy the OEM Ford parts (online, cheaper than my dealer, at FORD PARTS CONNECT in NJ, fast shipping), and he does the work. I have 781K and my #7 cylinder and maybe other burn oil, and I have to add a quart every 800 miles. I'm going to buy a remanufactured 5.4L and have it installed. I'll replace the water pump and the timing chain, and I should be good to go. Air filters on these 5.4's, always use a Motorcraft, the other brands don't fit right. I also know people in the same business as me and the Ford Transit motors last half as long or less than these tough 5.4 motors.
Helpful video! May I ask . . . How many miles on it when you changed the plugs? Was there a problem with the engine that prompted changing the spark plugs?
I know you wrote this 2 years ago, I've had my van for about a year and a half. Today, I will go through with changing the plugs cause the misfire is just terrible. Wish me luck.
I keep thinking about the horrors of a plug job on our old ‘80 & ‘86 with the 351C & the 460 respectively. Those plugs are down on the underside of the valve covers. A true p.i.t.a. sandwich. Makes the job I’m watching this video to learn how to do seem easy.

Why wouldn't you use anti-seize lubricant?
The plugs should be torqued to 23-25 lbs or they will blow out.

Pretty entertaining video! I felt your emotion on every frustrating removal, cut on your fingers/hands, etc.!!!

No problem 👍

I just did it today after seeing your comment🤣🤣
Damn I was going to say this looks more difficult that i thought
But still great vid

Thanks for showing this process. Most definitely about half way through video decided its worth every dollar to just have the mechanic handle this 😂
This is pain in neck but I loved you walking through process
Thank you for the great tips

Use a 6 or 7 inch rubber hose 2 start & take out the Plugs. Works Great!

But good video, I just live in my van and was not gonna do that amount of work lol

3 minutes in and I've decided I've seen enough to know it's JUNK! 7&8 Probably need Healy Coiled?
😂why me😂
So far I had replaced 3-4 which is not easy to do I’m sure you know
Yeah, now try getting that doghouse back on without a gap that lets the engine heat blow on your legs like a blast furnace from now to eternity
Good luck, ha!
😆 is this satire
