I love the x-t5. What is the saying, comparison is the thief of joy, something like that. Sure, is the x-t5 tracking as good as their competitors? No, but it is still good. I don't really use the subject detection stuff that much. I find subject detection or eye detection more of a fun thing to mess around with, but if I want the shot in focus, I am picking it out myself. I like to use the camera and make the decisions on what I am shooting and not let the camera decide what it wants. There are work arounds too. For sports or wildlife, stick the camera in manual, use the back button to focus on the distance you are working in and track that way. Works pretty great. Again, it isn't perfect, but man I just really enjoy the camera. Makes me feel more creative and it is just a blast to pick up. I am not a professional though so maybe my opinions don't weigh as much in that world, but as a hobbyist, I love fujifilm.
I get both sides of the argument but I’m on the same boat as you. I use single-point AF and have only missed focus because of my own faults. But if I use AF-C or any subject tracking, it’s pretty bad, so I get the argument
Got the X-T5 about 3 weeks ago and it came with the newest firmware. Just took it to a trip to Montenegro, put it to the test with lots of landscape photography and I gotta say ... sometimes the focus is not what I would want it to be, other times it is perfect. Really looking forward to the next firmware update and seeing the change in performance, if any.
Fujifilm made a public statement about autofocus issues. The fix will come in 14th of November for their flagship Fujifilm X-H2s, X-H2 and GFX100 II cameras. New camera we will see. X T 5, this year we are expecting a autofocus improvement. I have X T5 and I do like using my X T5. It takes amazingly clear photos and I love the color of fuji. I do agree with the things you mention on video. PİXEL SHİFT is the main reason I got this camera. It took perfect resolution photos of solid things ( architecture, old paintings and still objects ). I dont advice landscape. I will be so happy when the new firmware shows up, happy to see your test for autofocus.
I just ordered this Camera, and saw that there was a new update about 12 days ago. And some of the videos I saw people were saying that the auto focus was a lot better especially in low light
I got my X-T5 earlier this year and it's been (mostly) a wonderful experience. Yes I would still love for Fuji to make my AF better, but after many trips with it overseas; I am STILL super happy with it.
The only problem is that if you don't upgrade to the Reala Ace firmware and you plan to use AF-C you will get stuck with the false positives bug. I still have the firmware that was like two versions prior to Reala Ace and that is what I don't like, the false positives. As a casual shooter I love my X-T5, and even when I do "free gigs" (events of friends) it can get good shots. Sadly it's not a reliable tool for work.
"...it depends on your needs..." BINGO! Hopefully Fuji has taken all of the complaints seriously and this next update will actually have been well tested before it's released. Gotta get on those software engineers! Have a great weekend!
I don't know what everybody is talking about with the X-T5 and the auto-focus... lol. I haven't had any issues at all. Got the 27mm on there and have never taken it off. Love the combo, love the camera.
I owned the x-s20 and I am ok with the fuji system and the film sims albeit the AF-C is not where I want it to be on a few use cases. The character of the SOOC jpeg is something I enjoyed out of all the cameras I owned. I got the chance to compare the images with the 40MP sensor and am convinced to upgrade. I already sold it and I'm looking to upgrade to a newer sensor (with weather sealing) soon or maybe when the x-t6 comes up. Hopefully, they fix that AF-C issue. I'll be shooting with a lumix gx85 for now.

Hey! I’m looking to buy my first camera and can’t decide between the X-T5 and X-S20 (or maybe even a Sony?). I’m mainly into street photography, portraits, and landscapes, but I’d also like to vlog some moments. I love the retro design and manual controls on the X-T5, but the X-S20 seems more practical for video. Should I go for the X-T5 with the 23mm or 33mm f/1.4, or would the X-S20 with the kit lens and a prime be a better choice? Or maybe it’s worth waiting for a firmware update to see if Fuji addresses the autofocus issues? I’m looking for something that will last me for years. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
@@velvet_glove , I suspect that new firmware updates on Fujifilm cameras doesn’t solve the issue properly. It’s seems to be hardware issue partially too. For APS-C, there aren't a tonne of choices. I commented on another vid but it should be here….YOU are the person to ask! So here goes! Is this focus issue on XT5 real? I’ve been on Fuji since 2018, and I have noticed it since the last firmware update. Is the problem mostly in AF-C? I rarely use AF-C, and only do stills on my XT5 but I’ll definitely switch to single point. Dumb question: Should I turn OFF eye detect? I use my Fuji cameras to make a big part of my living, andI have since 2018. I’m a headshot photographer working in studio and natural light. In studio, I’ve not noticed any problems at all with AF. Likely because I’m between f5.6 and f8. But last two outside shoots (post firmware 4.0) I did notice about 50 out 500 (10% or so) were a bit off with the focus. I’m primarily shooting on the 56mm and not wide open. I got eye confirmation, but it focused on the tip of the nose, etc. Till Fuji fixes this, should I turn off eye tracking and stick to face detection? I did try that and got almost no misfires. Seems to do with the eye tracking giving false confirmation. I have a shoot coming up this week so help is appreciated!

They afterwards added a statement regarding the X-T5 and other current gen bodies, which are supposed to be updated within this year (no ETA given). They might surprise us, they might not. But I don't have high hopes that we will already get the firmware next week.
Just came back from an office photo day, the X-T5 (running v2.10) handled it pretty well with AF-C, with the occasional out of focus photo. But I wonder why both the 27 and 75mm Viltrox handle AF-C much better than the latest Fuji 18mm f/1.4 LM WR?! My subjects and I were both moving, I was walking backwards at the same pace, the 18mm hitrate was noticeably worse. And I almost exclusively used the Viltrox lenses at f/1.2! But maybe that's just the wide angle focus issue Fujifilm cameras have since generations, nobody knows. Regardless, don't stop complaining until this is fixed! People need to know! But broooo you hit them fanboy trolls pretty hard with this one, fire in the hole!🔥🔥🔥😂
It's true! If you see the quality from the third party lenses in the next few years they will have their own pro lens at a fraction of a cost. You might not shoot native anymore haha
For APS-C, there aren't a tonne of choices. In addition to their other limitations, Canon does not offer a wide selection of lenses. The same applies to Nikon. Your final decision will be between a Sony or Fujifilm camera. Unless your project specifically calls for full-frame capabilities, APS-C is the way to go from an economic and ergonomic perspective. The good news is that Sony has introduced a variety of APS-C cameras to meet a variety of demands. At this time, I believe Sony is the better investment option. After a few years of use, your lenses will still be functional, and I have no doubt that future cameras of Sony will include even better autofocus. Consequently, Fujifilm will fall drastically behind Sony for the time being. For event video and photography, I must say that the even a6400 does a respectable job. However, the a6700 is superior because it has an AI chip and IBIS and much better sensor. Let's consider that this Fujifilm camera is solely being considered for video purposes. With superior autofocus, a gearing-compatible body, a wider selection of high-quality mics, and an extensive lens catalogue, the Sony FX30 is the superior APS-C video camera. When it comes to video, the Fujifilm isn't even close to the FX30. When it comes to value, this Fujifilm camera isn't the finest option. This camera is not worth the money because of all the problems it has. For fun, it's fine if you don't have to buy this camera and lenses for it. However, this becomes an issue when thinking about how to avoid squandering funds on a system that won't meet your needs. I really hope Fujifilm improve their cameras, but I know that hoping won't help.
Assuming all the whinging is video shooters cause I shoot stills and have absolutely no issues.... I also shoot single not continuous focus so that's prob a big reason too
@@michaelhall859 it’s also autofocus tracking. So tracking your kids, shooting portraits. Wildlife etc. it sucks. But if it works for you that’s great. 😀
Better wait for the XT6. I think this one is a stillborn. The 40mp sensor is not good (why 40mp ??) and have problens with autofocus. Meanwhile I'm happy with my xt3.
I just got my xt50 a few days ago and I’ve had no problems with auto focus. Not in video or pictures. I got the new kit lens and maybe it’s optimized for it specifically but these guys are scaring me. I keep hearing bad stuff about the Fuji auto focus.
I stumbled into this crap storm by buying a used x-t5 2 weeks ago. Firmware 1.03 and I ain't moving! I'm a manual focus landscape or frame fisher so autofocus isn't my need ... but I ordered a ZF just in case and wont buy more x lenses until it's safe!
I went from a Sony A7ii to the Xt5 so the auto focus feels like a dream. The A7ii auto focus was atrocious. It was slow and the amount of slightly out of focus images I got was insane. It got even worse with third party lenses. The xt5 is so much quicker than my previous cameras. I'm sure it doesn't hold up compared to newer Sonys or Canons but it's great for me.
No, but I just shot almost 1000 pop up portrait photos using an X-T5 using latest firmware with constant LED Lighting, using AF-S, in Single shot with eye tracking and settings of shutter speed 1/250, IS0 500, using the original 35mm F/1.4 @ F/2.8 and only 1 photo was not in focus on the eye but 99.9% were.... I'm sure it would have missed a few more if shooting at F/1.4 but also F/1.4 would not have gave enough DOF
@@lukasdohnal9495 Yes, but again it is what % of actual photography... needs AF-C, wide open at F/1.2 or F/1.4 . My point is they are completely usable for work. If you need a camera for running and jumping people all the time, you would probably not have got a Fuji anyway. That being said, it is important fuji fixes the issues they caused (which they have already said they are) no camera should get worse with an update
I did a test in a camera store recently between the XT-5, Nikon ZF and the Sony a7 Rv. The lens were a pair of F/1.8 35mm s for each of the full frame cameras and the 16-50mm F/2.8 zoom at 23mm. All were set at 800 iso. The Fuji in my opinion out performs the Nikon in terms of resolution and it did very admirably against the Sony.
@@Iamtongue Yeah, I didn’t mean to suggest anything you had said before. I was just curious because for myself i am thinking of getting a full frame camera because they’re so small now and to do copy work of some of my old prints and negatives from many years ago. I forgot to mention in my original post that the Sony did out resolve the Fuji and of course it had a little less noise but, sharpness was nearly the same.
Depends on the use case. For the way I shoot with both me and the subjects constantly moving, the older Firmware is MUCH better. But I agree, I also don't see an alternative for me personally, it does all I need. V4.00 had better subject detection though, but the actual focus acquisition with AF-C+movement was a step back. If they can merge all the pros from old and new Firmwares, it can only get better and everybody profits. That's why the constant complaints are necessary, progress. there is a new firmware coming next month. I really hope they nail it this time.
They said XT5 will have a firmware coming out before 2025. So if not November it'll be december.
Still happy with my x-t1 😂
well in the x summit for next week they should be coming out with the new fw update that should in theory fix these issues
From Fujis official announcement video, they explicitly mentioned updates for the gfx 100 i, X-H2 and X-H2s with an "Expected Launch in November".
They realy fckup when thirdparty lenses cheaper sharper and have better autofocus and avialible to buy😅
It's true! If you see the quality from the third party lenses in the next few years they will have their own pro lens at a fraction of a cost. You might not shoot native anymore haha
My XT5 may just end up with the 27mm pancake on it to mimic an X100VI and get R5MkII or R1 for serious work at this point.
solid plan
You can downgrade your firmware to the first one or whatever you want, you know that right? I know it is a bit tricky but there is a way.
@@ardaoguzcan9396 and doing so can potentially void the warranty if it gets bricked. Thats something I’m not willing to risk.
Better wait for the XT6. I think this one is a stillborn. The 40mp sensor is not good (why 40mp ??) and have problens with autofocus. Meanwhile I'm happy with my xt3.
why is the 40mp not good? there are plenty of other cameras with 45-60mp
I can’t wait for the xt6 to drop so I can finally afford the xt5 used. 😊
40 mgpix is must-have today. U can do what u want with this.
not really. 40mp is good for pictures but bad for videos. 12mp is ideal for video
@@kuroexmachina 40mp on APS-C sensors? The 24mp was great. Even the Fuji lens can't handle well this new resolution.
Still using xt2 and saving up for xt5 😭 help me im poor 😂😂😂
hahaha its still good!
I just got my xt50 a few days ago and I’ve had no problems with auto focus. Not in video or pictures. I got the new kit lens and maybe it’s optimized for it specifically but these guys are scaring me. I keep hearing bad stuff about the Fuji auto focus.
That's good, I didn't hear much complaints with AF on the XT50.
Thanks for taking the bullet for us🐱
haha no worries
I stumbled into this crap storm by buying a used x-t5 2 weeks ago. Firmware 1.03 and I ain't moving!
I'm a manual focus landscape or frame fisher so autofocus isn't my need ... but I ordered a ZF just in case and wont buy more x lenses until it's safe!
Good call! But you should be safe if you’re a landscape photographer
I would have stayed with Fuji had the company if the X-H2 and the X-T5 had been one and only body.
good call! Sony is great for things Fuji seems to be weak at.
What shall I say, I own a X-Pro3 with even more shitty AF and not even a shitty Firmware update.
@@lamaludwig1470 my Xpro-2 looks on in envy 🥲
Xt6 will be better and will be launched next year, but the waiting will be long so xt5 will be best choice for now
I went from a Sony A7ii to the Xt5 so the auto focus feels like a dream.
JK, I missed the part about the firmware update messing up the auto focus. Don't know what Firmware I have.
Your A7II was with the latest firmware? I think the A7II autofocus isn't that bad.
Can any new owners of an x-T5 confirm what firmware comes out of the box if you buy it now ?
I would love to know as well
No, but I just shot almost 1000 pop up portrait photos using an X-T5 using latest firmware with constant LED Lighting, using AF-S, in Single shot with eye tracking and settings of shutter speed 1/250, IS0 500, using the original 35mm F/1.4 @ F/2.8 and only 1 photo was not in focus on the eye but 99.9% were.... I'm sure it would have missed a few more if shooting at F/1.4 but also F/1.4 would not have gave enough DOF
@@9Mtikcus Problem is specially with AF-C, tracking and autofocus in video, with newest firmware its really bad.
Amazing!I don't doubt Fuji's IMAGEs at all. It's just their reliability is what I am criticizing
Focus don't bother me. On xt5 I just use manual focus 😅
hahaha Rip
X-T5 has no alternative for me and AF is just fine. And I believe for most people too m
Video AF is another issue that needs fixing.
in a few days there will be a new firmware for xt5
Not exactly right. From Fujis official announcement video, they explicitly mentioned updates for the gfx 100 ii, X-H2 and X-H2s with an "Expected Launch in November". They afterwards added a statement regarding the X-T5 and other current gen bodies, which are supposed to be updated within this year (no ETA given).
They might surprise us, they might not.
#Blurryfilm
hahaha
I would say ok for half the price.
hahaha
Welp… I’ve been selling my Canon Equipment slowly to make the transition to the X-T5. I’m not “pro” nor do videos. I do portraits but not on a professional level. Been watching this channel for awhile now and honestly convinced me because of the colors and lens options to be honest. Canon is getting ridiculous with their pricing. Appreciate the honesty man…
thanks for watching man.
